They have a great selection of Chinese and Japanese food. Quick service with a smile. Their sushi is the first I have tried and it was spectacular. The waitresses are patient and Courteous.

The orange chicken is insanely DELICIOUS. You can taste how natural everything is. Customer service is 10/10. I am coming back without a doubt.

My favorite Chinese food place to eat. Not only do they have the best garlic chicken, they have the best staff! They are very kind and helpful everytime I'm there! I'd suggest this place to anyone looking for a comfortable place to dine.

great neighborhood place, local family owned. excellent gyoza, wonton soup, vegetable dishes. Very reasonable. Come here instead of Panada Express! Keep the money here in town!

The nicest Chinese and Japanese restaurant in Modesto, from the beautifully designed interior decorations, with exquisitely garnished, full flavored meals. Yih and Allen are great hosts, a pleasure to talk to, and always concerned with your dining experience.

Overall it was a nice meal, the vibe of the restaurant is very fancy which was surprising to me. I've been twice at this point and both times I had nothing to complain about

So far I've come here it has been pretty quiet. The food is a banger and the interior is just so cool. I would definitely recommend this place if you wanna try out a calm Chinese/Japanese restaurant.

You Gotta Try the Fried Garlic Chicken Wings, they are crunchy and flavorful and FRESH! My other favorite order is the DRAGON ROLL! The Sushi and sashimi were very tasty and I really loved the fried Tofu. Also the Shrimp with Vegetables was very good. Friendly Staff and quick service, and a reasonable price!

So this place is the absolute best find any Japanese or Chinese food lover could come across. They have a wide variety menu, but not too much thats its overwhelming. The food came out fast and looked, smelled and tasted delicious. The waitress was absolutely amazing. Best service you could ask for. She made sure we had enough tea and water and was fast with any requests we had. She even had small chit chat with us. Suuper friendly service filled with smiles. Will be returning to this restaurant for a while!

This is one of my family's favorite places to eat. It has been a place I've frequented often since I was in fifth grade with my mother , I'm in my forties now and the food is just as good. The owner , Allen is warm and welcoming and ofter will pop out of the kitchen to great his loyal customers which I always enjoy. I would recommend this place to any and all who enjoy good food and great service.

It's a good cozy place to go alone or on a date. My boyfriend has taken me here for dinner a couple times so far and I've never encountered any problems. The employees are super friendly and if you don't want to break the bank by going somewhere fancy I'd definitely suggest here. Their green tea ice cream is to die for. They have music playing usually and TVs with subtitles on them. It's cozy, inexpensive, friendly, and all around nice.

The food was really good. Shrimp and mixed veggies for me. Shrimp and orange chicken for the wife. Both were great. Service was outstanding and the price was under $30 for two at lunch time. Visit this place. Very nice

I've visited this restaurant twice now and have been thoroughly satisfied. The first time I ordered a lunch combo; the kontasu was amazing. Second trip was dinner with my wife. I ordered a combo plate for her and I had the Kimchi Seafood Udon Clay Pot. Turned out to be another great choice.

Went for lunch here today with my boyfriend. We went for the Chinese side of the cuisine and ended up both getting japanese food. He got tonkotsu and chicken teriyaki lunch plate and I got yaki udon. I really love udon so it was nice seeing it on the menu, the udon was super good and I felt the portion sizes for me was perfect. My boyfriend did feel like he could have had a little bigger portion sizes, but also cant complain because the price was not bad at all for what we got. I also tried his food and thought it was very good. We definitely would love to come back again.

We decided to come here for dinner and really enjoyed it. I had the chicken and broccoli dinner with rice. My wife had the number 2 which was Garlic Chicken, chow mein, fried rice, and fried prawns. We both had sodas with our meals. The service was great and we had a great experience.

Food came out nice and HOT. Took less than 20 minutes for my 2 dishes to come out. The chicken is super crispy and the flavor is really nice. For the 2 dishes it cost me $22. Also the entre comes with white rice which most places don't do anymore!

This place was a spur of the moment thing for my best friend and I. She was craving Chinese and I was craving sushi. Thankfully this place had both and they didn't disappoint! The food was great and customer service was five star. It's top of my list on places to go now. I absolutely love it.

Our first time eating at Orient House, we had an amazing experience. Our server went above and beyond by giving us bowls in order for us to share and enjoy our ice cream. The sushi was delicious. We will be back soon!

Love Orient House! It's a family favorite on a Friday night. We order the dinner for 3 and it's the perfect variety & portions for 3 adults (approx $68 for the whole dinner). My oldest son and I order large Orion beers to enjoy with our delicious meal. Food is fresh & hot. Service is great, friendly, not super bubbly. I highly recommend going!!

I absolutely love Chinese Japanese food. being originally from the Bay area it is nearly impossible to find food here that meets the standards I'm used to. We have a few places here in town that we like but have never been as completely impressed by any other place than the Orient House. The atmosphere warm and inviting, with very traditional Chinese Japanese decor. The window out front has 12 or so samples of what the entrees will look like. Not some cheesy plastic food but much more realistic. Always helps to see before ordering. The service was excellent as well, our waitress was very attentive and thoughtful. My husband had the sushi it was absolutely fresh and delicious. I had the garlic chicken and it was so good. Such wonderful flavor and crisp the rice and chow mein were awesome too. Definitely our new favorite restaurant!

I love that this restaurant is quaint and offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. My favorite dish is the shrimp teriyaki…this has been my go to dish for a very long time. We try to frequent this restaurant about once a month and have been known to visit more often. The kids love to eat at this restaurant with no fuss. The wait staff are awesome. Like most businesses hit during COVID they have had to rethink the way things have to be done…I will continue to visit this restaurant as long as they remain in business. Thank you to everyone who makes this the best food.

The food was great. We had the garlic chicken with fried rice and chow mein. Also had the sweet and sour chicken with the same sides. The food came out really hot and fresh and you could tell was made to order. The menu has some nice lunch specials as well as most of your usual Chinese selection. Dine in was in a to go box but I don’t care I doubted I would finish my portion but I did because I enjoyed it so much.

Good, hot, fresh and not all heavy with oils. Egg rolls are the smaller 'spring' rolls but very tender and light on the wrap. Service was prompt, friendly and courteous. Went on a Thursday evening.

Friendly and responsive staff. The food was "good". Looking forward to coming back to get a better feel for the flavors. The ramen I had was decent, nothing to rave about. 😶 The decor is nothing what you would expect from the looks outside. Great interior design. I look forward to giving a more complete review, later -- I'm not giving up on this place.

Good food but nothing special. Sushi rolls were a little on the small size from what I'm used to and the fried rice was a little on the dry side. We went mid week. Barely anyone in the place. Maybe 5 tables. You would think that our waiter would be more attentive but he wasn't. Barely seen him and when we did we had to wave him down. I will say that he showed good patience given the fact that I am usually the last one to order holding up the people I am dining with . He was very polite and courteous as well.

I had high hopes but this place was not what i expected. If youre looking for Japanese food this is not the place to get it. It was overpriced, had small portions and just overall dissappointing. If youre looking for cheap chinese food then this is it.

2 stars for great service and friendly staff. Unfortunately the food wasn't great. Very Panda Express(ish), though I would have taken Panda over this any day. Chicken was dry and sauces seemed canned. Too bad, because this is a cool little shopping center for a good spot. In Modesto, stick to Mei Wei on Standiford.

I am incredibly sick so I ordered war won ton soup. The soup tastes really good, and my pick up service was wonderful. I dropped 2 stars because a big part of WOR won ton soup is the shrimp that comes in the soup, which was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. TINY, weird looking pieces with the shell still attached to the tail. And only 2 pieces in the whole soup. Plus there was only like 3 pieces of broccoli in the whole thing. No cabbage, no carrots, one tiny pieces of celery. ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING, never coming here again

We have eaten here since they were on Tully. Sadly, the owner no longer seems to have his heart in it. They no longer use plates if you go to the restaurant. They no longer serve miso soup with their tempura meal. Tonight I called in an order and there was a heavy sigh, as if I was an inconvenience. Then when we went in he complained that Covid ruined his business, he complained the government should have made everyone go back to work. When we got home our order was wrong, and half of what it was before Covid. We did our best to keep them in business but blaming the government was wrong when you are not treating your customers well is sad.

Food was good. I will say the guy working in the back kitchen was very RUDE to the staff working the front desk. Did not like that I actually feel back for them. He also made me unwelcome as he yelled at me to go to the counter mind you this is my first time here. Wouldn’t come again.

Customer since the late 1990's. Covid didn't ruin this place. I tried to order from this place during covid several times.. all but one time they were actually there. Got my usual order of two dragon rolls, and some soup. Dragon rolls were a huge disappointment. Half the usual size and no tobiko!! Used to be amazing. Decided to try again tonight. Ordered the dinner for four and a dragon roll. Again dragon roll so small it fit into the quarter size foam togo box. The rest was just not good. Except the garlic chicken.. I would order that but the rest ... No. Oil tastes off. Fried rice crunchy, not in a good way. Sweet n sour, very vinegary, no sweet. I could go on but I just dont want to.

Totally disgusting how they have turnout over these past few years! Order $70 worth of food and Quality sucks food is super greasy, ordered two orders of shrimp and they were smashed in the box and full of grease! People dont care anymore about serving good food! Never will l eat here again!

This is the WORST "Chinese" food I have ever had. The chow mein noodles are soggy and taste like top ramen that is over cooked. The pot stickers are crispy with tasty pork inside, they are doughy and over boiled on the inside. The Mongolian beef has no green onions and isn't even cooked like Mongolian beef, it is just beef with pizza style crushed red pepper. I feel robbed!!! Do not eat here.

I ordered a 2 California Rolls it had imitation crab in it and cost $16. It was gross! I went to Osaka Sushi got fresh crab! 2 California Rolls was $10.68 this place is a JOKE!

Tried this restaurant for the first time with my husband. Neither of us were pleased. We got an order to go. Once we got home we discovered they forgot to give us an item we ordered. The fried rice was very bland, absolutely no flavor. Same with their mushroom chicken. The way they put it in the bag caused all the juice from the mushroom chicken to leak into the bag. Maybe if it got to sit in the juice there would have been some flavor but it was very unseasoned. The fried prawns we ordered were mush inside, almost not fried enough. The beef brocolli was decent. We ordered chow mein but came with almost no noodles, basically just got an order of veggies. The flavor was good and we enjoyed the veggies but wish there were a bit more noodles added. My husband ordered won ton soup that tasted a bit off from the usual won ton soup he's had from several other restaurants. I would not recommend this joint.

R
Real Talk

Shocked! I received 1 freshly cooked shrimp tempura (Golden tan & soft)...and 2 obviously refried shrimp from cancelled orders (Dark, double fried, dry rubbery shrimp inside). Performed the "noodle test". If noodle prepared at the same time & fresh, texture would the same. Moist. Upon being pinched...it would break with little pressure. My dish was loaded crunchy hard stiff deep brown noodles noodles mixed with some fresh cooked soft noodles. Trashed it all.

Disappointed on the quality of food. It use to be good. It tasted reheated. If you dine in you get styrofoam containers. Paid $26 for 2 lunch specials; small portions overpriced!

Was really looking forward to trying their food. Ordered the family dinner for three. Was disappointed that I would not get soup because it was a to go order and they told me I would have to order their large container of soup in order to get the soup that was supposed to be included in the family dinner. Ordered Almond chicken, was informed that they were out of almonds, so they could substitute cashews or peanuts, chose cashews. Was disappointed in the amount of chicken in the fried rice, chow mein, and the almond chicken. Almond chicken had more onions then anything else. Our dipping sauce for the wontons and fried prawns was like jelly instead of a liquid. Overall, the quality of the food was not worth the money I paid.

My mother and I went to this place to try somewhere new and we 100% regretted it. She got the number 1 and did not enjoy the sweet and sour at all. I got the number 2 that included fried praws that were flimsy and soggy. And tasted terrible. It tasted like chemicals. I took 1 bite and spit it out. And the guy working rushed us and said they were closing in 15 mins. It was 1 something in the afternoon. Then when we ordered he had the nerve to ask if we were dining in or having it to go. 😑 Why would we dine in when you just told us there were 15 mins until you close?? I dont recommended this place at all.

I've been going to Orient House since the early 90's, and it's been my "go to" for Chinese food in Modesto. That changed yesterday. We all know prices have gone up, and while getting a combination plate for $15 isn't the value it used be, prices won't be going back. The bigger problem is QUALITY. The picture shown is the #7 lunch combination, which is Garlic chicken, fried rice and chow mein. Every item on the plate isn't even a shadow of the quality and flavor they used to make, nor the quantity. The garlic chicken was bland and small chunks without the peas and bits of stuff they used to have; the rice was mushy and oily with no egg, and bits of veggies they used to include- absolutely terrible; and the chow mein didn't have recognizable noodles, the only thing redeeming about it was the bean sprouts that gave it a snap - my girlfriend couldn't even eat it and threw it away. While we stayed in the restaurant to eat, they didn't bring our food on plates like they used to, but just the to-go Styrofoam containers with red Solo cups for our drinks. My girlfriend ordered the same thing with prawns, which glowed like firey cheetos for some reason, and were under fried with mushy batter next to the prawns. The Orient House has lost a customer is all I can say, this meal wasn't worth the $7.95 price this used to be 10 years ago, much less the $15 a plate. I can't begin to express my dissatisfaction and dissapointment since this has been my favorite Chinese spot for so many years. Cutting corners and altering recipies and quantity has me sadly feeling I'll never return.

Only went to this place because the two places next door were packed. Went inside and was empty, ordered at front desk, everything was served in Togo boxes nothing had good flavor. Cream cheese wontons had no cream cheese in them. Chow mein was all bran sprouts and no noodles, sweet-and-sour pork was all balls of fat, no lids for the to go cups either! Sweet and sour sauce was coagulated, I told server about that and she said that’s for its made… very disappointing will not return and regret going!! Should have waited in line at other restaurants

I don’t know what happened to this restaurant it used to be fantastic before . The food was not good it was made in literally 7 minutes for 3 different meals I was disappointed , only one person running the entire restaurant I was the only person in the entire restaurant besides the worker and he was in a foul mood, I asked him for zero coke he said he only had diet I said no he preceded to pour regular coke in a cup and I said NO “ NO “ he was extremely agitated and shook the cup in his hand, So the food was awful and so was customer service . Terrible 😞 won’t be going back.

What happened Orient House???? My family has been going to your restaurant for over 40 years. We haven't had it in a few years and I can't believe this is the same place. Food is disgusting I feel like it was microwaved. Very sad !! Not one person in the dining room on a Saturday night, I should have clued in. Hopefully you change something soon before its too late for you.
