Great atmosphere, great prices, great flavor. Las Vegas roll hit the spot, the edamame was delicious, and the mochi the perfect texture.
The food was delicious! Came in a little before closing so was able to talk with the owner since there wasn’t anyone else. The restaurant is owned by a very sweet older Korean couple. They opened this restaurant with the dream of taking care of their children. One daughter even helps to wait tables while simultaneously doing dental school. Great food, warm atmosphere, and excellent service!
My husband and I checked this place out for dinner since we were staying at a hotel close by. The young man who helped us was very nice and attentive. Once our order was taken we received our food rather quick. The food was very tasty.
I ordered the 3 combo box! The miso soup was perfect on the cold night. The salad could have been colder, but it was still good. The chunks of salmon in my roll were huge! The rice was hot and sticky just how I like it. Close walk from my hotel!
Fantasticly delicious rolls (with such a fun variety), friendly hospitality, and a cozy place. Definitely going again!
I came in at 6 on a Friday night. I was seated and served promptly. This is by far the best sushi I have ever had. I ordered the Dragon Roll and the Crunch Roll and finished both. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Excellent! Love all the cute little dishes and tea pot! Sushi was fresh and delicious. My 7 year old loved the Japanese fried chicken. Great place for a family meal!
This is our new favorite sushi restaurant in the area! They have a great selection of specialty rolls and traditional sushi and sashimi. There is s steady flow of patrons, but it is usually not crowded. Service has always been friendly and helpful, and plates are prepared in a timely manner.
Omg so delicious 😁 best sushi in town. I love how fresh everything is. Plus food is not salty always a plus. Highly recommend this place.
Annie showed us in and made us feel at home. Rarely would you see an Japanese restaurant serves Agedashi Tofu as it should be. That is with lots of tentsuyu. My wife and I actually enjoyed it that we ordered a second serving. We also ordered a couple of bento and a bowl of shoyu ramen. The beef teriyaki and salmon teriyaki were good! A great place to enjoy your lunch and dinner. Come on over! There is a table for you and your family. This will be a stopover for us when we visit the Seaside/Monterey area for sure.
This is a great Sushi place to eat! The best in Monterey! We try to eat there 3 to 4 times a month. Service is wonderful. Casual dining. A little bit pricey.
Charming smallish sushi spot that also serves ramen and some other Japanese staples like curry and karaage (think chicken nuggets but better). They also had fried tuna collar which you don't see every day. A delicious and authentic experience!
We go here both for my mom's birthday and for my birthday every year, since 2013. They have wonderful staff, and the food is amazing! Great atmosphere too. It's always just the perfect temperature in there too! The outdoor seating is a wonderful option, and is filled with outdoor heater
I've been working in Monterey for 6 weeks now, and every week, I've returned here every week. Yes I did try other sushi places, but this one has me hooked
Tempura calamari was awesome. Outside dining
Fantastic value. Had the three item dinner with chicken teriyaki, yellowtail roll and tuna roll. Each roll was six pieces! Lots of food bfor $20. Chicken was more like four stars, taste wasn't quite there. Nice outdoor patio with heaters. Friendly and quick service.
Looking for good sushi? Try Sushi by the Bay! Great server. Excellent sushi! Fresh fish and crisp fresh veggies. Extensive menu and substitutions were no problem. Reasonable prices and fast service. I highly recommend it!
Super friendly waitress and reasonable prices. Stopped by for dinner in the quieter part of town, and the restaurant was not too busy. The ramen and sushi were good. Be careful not to pull into the car wash, since Sushi by The Bay’s lot is on the other side of their building.
Wonderful place to grab dinner!!! Very affordable, fresh, and delicious. Our waiter was very kind and lovely, and we got our food quickly. Seats were comfortable, and I inhaled my roll. Would visit again!!
We stopped in for a quick lunch and the woman at the front was so nice. Very quick with drinks and brought us Miso soup because it was chilly out. The rolls were fresh and it was well priced.
Sushi was fresh and delicious! We got the cherry blossom roll with spicy mayo added and the crazy roll. After spending the day in monterey, we found this hidden gem. Although we really wanted to eat there the atmosphere was nice and it smelled so good inside but we were pressed for time and had to get it to go. My pictures in the car at night don't do it justice.
Highly recommend this spot! A hidden gem. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. Lots of indoor dining with a nice patio area for outdoor dining. We sat at the bar and the sushi chef was very kind and friendly. All the staff were welcoming. The food was brought out quickly. Very fresh ingredients and delicious food! Absolutely loved the heart attack and bento plates with beef. The Sapporo was served in a chilled mug which really hit the spot. Overall I'm happy to have come by this restaurant and definitely plan on returning.
Great food and very kind people I highly recommend the sushi bar and the spicy crab California rolls !!!
Everything was very good here. It was not busy at all, and does not need a reservation (they don't take them). I had the Ramon and it was so big I could not finish it. We also order sushi 🍣 it was amazing. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
I have enjoyed this place for quite a while now, but the fried banana ice cream prompted me to write a review. Like all of their food, the fried banana ice cream was gorgeous and stunning, full of a myriad of clean crips flavors. When I want delicious sushi I turn to sushi by the bay for the most comfortable atmosphere, prompt friendly service. And quality flavorful sushi. I always go when I’m in the mood for sushi, but, I need to remember to try their ramen when I’m in the mood for ramen because all of their noodles look authentic and delicious.

Went here after work with some colleagues. The food and service were excellent. The selection between classic and specialty rolls didn't leave anything out - plenty of raw, baked and tempura rolls. Next time I visit Monterey I will stop here for lunch or dinner! The owners were also very kind and enthusiastic about their food and very welcoming. Great experience
Left stuffed! Sushi was great, sat at the sushi bar and George gave us great recommendations. Our server was super attentive as well. We had two different sakis that were great and their green tea ice cream was a great finisher!

This place makes 5 star food. The only reason I am holding back 1 star is that there is no AC, and the wait staff does not come by as frequently as I personally would prefer. The food here, though, is among the top 3 best sushi places in Monterey County for sure.
Got a pork katsu donburi bowl for my entree and an eel-avocado roll to try. The bowl’s presentation was great, it was layered very nicely but when I took a bite, there wasn’t much flavor. It was like they cooked everything perfectly and forgot to add seasoning… All in all, food was good but not great, service was great and very fast.
Been here a few times now and pretty solid. Never have had to wait too long- maybe 15 minutes. Very hip and Japanese atmosphere. Get the house special ramen and its very clean, but still pretty flavorful. No complaints here! Service is good.
Some really good special House rolls as well as traditional Maki and Nigiri. Great Poke salad. My favorites are Sexyban and Hot Night rolls.
Sushi by the Bay delivers a delightful culinary experience with its creative and fresh offerings. The Hungry Roll, featuring a mix of crab, tuna, and salmon, was a standout dish that balanced textures and flavors beautifully. Each bite offered a harmonious blend of savory seafood and subtle seasoning, making it both satisfying and memorable. For sushi lovers seeking bold flavors and quality ingredients, this spot is worth visiting.
Most of our food was fantastic but I think my pork in my Ramen was going sour. Recommend the sushi though! Server was very attentive 🙂

Pleasantly surprised! Decent sushi— not a fancy spot, the service wasn’t very friendly and yet we had a fine meal. I had katsu Don which was too salty for my taste but otherwise good. And a sushi roll that was quite tasty.
Did take out for dinner while we were staying at the hotel across the street. Food was ok but staff was friendly at pick up and had everything ready when I showed up.

Reasonable prices, but small portions. We ordered the tempura ramen and got 2 prawn tempura and the ramen had just 3 small slices of pork and very thin sliced fish cake. Maybe its a monday or COVID caused problems with the supply, but the sashimi didn't seem that fresh. Service was lacklustre.
Purely on service.....host/waitress was short when asked if I could sit outside..."not ready yet!" Sat at the bar...when ready I was left for a call....no excuse/pardon. You go out for service....so I took my order to go cause no way was I gonna tip. There was no one else in the establishment and I was feeling like I was a bother for the waitress. Eck.
The fish left a lot to be desired. The rolls were good, but the sashimi and nigiri were not fresh. Even the water tasted dirty. The rice was hot and delicious, and the beer was great. Don't go here if you are looking for good, clean fish. For example, under a slice of tuna, there was red juice, which I assume to be dye. Great for cooking fish as one gets at Costco; this is not sushi grade!

Sushi quality was very bad. We ordered the lunch special and the fish choices the chef selected looked and tasted awful. First choice a crusty dry piece of Tilapia. OMG I was in shock. Then a piece of Salmon that looked like it was frozen since the beginning of time. The last piece this chef selected was a thin piece of shrimp that was so limp I think it died around the bronze age. For the salad it was iceberg lettuce with some purple cabbage submerged in a sauce that reminded me of baby food. For the main course they brought out these 8 little rolls that seemed so autistic and awkward on the plate. Even the fish inside were very strangely colored. The tuna was dark purple and the yellowtail was red like chicken liver. The meal was absolutely a disgrace to sushi and if I was involved in that restaurant I would sell and move on because it's obvious the motivation is gone. The highlight of the lunch was a lukewarm miso soup that actually had an interesting fish flavor. Im thinking it tasted good because it has been sitting around for sometime. The hot tea we ordered tasted like nothing, and the service was a smile and that was the end of the show. We left and went to another sushi restaurant and had a great time. Toro in Carmel exceeded our expectations and turned this disaster of a Saturday start into a beautiful day. Please understand that I love sushi and I was shocked when we stumbled across such a horrible meal.
Sushi was terrible, host was great but unfortunately the sushi was awful
The most inedible sushi I think I’ve ever had. Some of the pieces of sashimi were so tough we couldn’t even bite through. We got rolls, sashimi… it was all pretty flavorless. Everything tasted like it had been frozen and just tasted water and not like fresh fish.
I would never go back there to eat. Avoid it. Save your money. Go to Crystal Fish and some other local Sushi restaurants in the area instead. We still paid for the meal we didn't eat since they won't fix and correct it. I packed it to go and gave it to a homeless person outside. We still left 20% gratuity when its not warranted at all. Worst dining experience. I could go on writing about it in full details with photos included too.
We got there around 7:30 the lady server sat us at the tables in front of the sushi bar by the glass door. She took our order and brought us our food. When delivering the sushi she brought no soy sauce, no straw for the soda and I wanted some salt but she did not check on us. So since the nice sushi man was right there i asked him for everything we needed. So when it comes to customer service, the sushi man is always right there to serve you and make sure you have everything you need. The lady seems like she could care less about checking on her guest to make sure everything is alright. When she does come back it's a bit to late. I really felt like the sushi man deserved the tip since he was there for our needs and made our sushi rolls. The sushi is great but the teriyaki beef is paper thin. If I go again definitely sitting at the sushi bar. If you want a bento box O Sushi Restaurant down the street has a much bigger and better one than here.
