Had a great Sunday Lunch here last week. Normally I'm not one for a Carvery, but this was delicious. Super friendly staff and they managed to squeeze us in on Easter Sunday with no booking. Will be back.
Been for a carvery today and it was absolutely beautiful, the best carvery we’ve had! I don’t usually have beef but I’m so glad I did as it was extremely tender. Staff were lovely and accommodating. We will be back (has a carpark too which is great as parking in amble can be hard)
We enjoyed a lovely meal this evening, delicious burgers and tasty sides too. Everyone was very warm and welcoming and accommodated our two golden retrievers who take up a lot of space 🐶🐶 Good price, good location, easy parking and great food. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
Stopped here for a Sunday lunch, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks came straight away, and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. The portions were very generous, and the food was very tasty. It was not very busy so nice and quiet. 2 drinks and 2 big plates of roast beef Sunday dinner came to £38 so value was good 👍.
Excellent choice of very tasty food. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Dogs made very welcome too.
Central location within easy walking distance of the harbour. Great breakfast choices. Lovely food - superb Sunday lunch. Great staff - everyone helpful and friendly. Comfortable room, great tea and coffee, clean. The room was mostly great - the only thing is that the bedroom door just didn't shut easily so had to slam it to close it. Not so bad during the day but felt a bit awkward later at night when other guests would be relaxing. Thanks for a great stay overall!
Good food, great drinks, fabulous and friendly staff
Had an evening meal with family. It was lovely and filling. Good value and very tasty.
Excellent Sunday Roast. The beef was tender, a good variety of vegetables and plenty of gravy! We had turned up without booking but there was no problem getting a table. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. We found the Small serving more than adequate
Found this pub on our first night of 7 in amble in which we went every night for a pint. Staff were amazing. We had 2 dogs Dexter and Milo (the puppy). The staff and customers were first class and the dogs certainty had a fan club towards the end of the week. Will definitely re visit next year. Massive Thank you to all
Very pleasant pub. Enjoyed evening meals for two nights. Lovely food and friendly service. Fun quiz night on Tuesday evening too 👍
We visited here while on holiday. 5 adults and 2 children. We pre booked which was easy to do. Plenty of on site parking. There is a set menu of starter and main for £17 and you can add a desert for £5. Kids received and free starter or dessert with a kids main. All the meals were delicious, steady service you weren't felt rushed. Portions were very good. Between us we had the pie and mash, chicken schnitzel, bacon and cheese burger, haddock fishcakes, southern fried chicken burger, kids fish and kids burger. Desserts were amazing too, sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel brownie and cheesecake. All plates were cleared. Highly recommend. 2 starters, 5 adult mains, 2 kids mains, 4 adult desserts, 2 kids deserts, 4 alcoholic drinks and 5 soft drinks came to £139. Excellent. Definitely be back when on holiday again.
Booked to eat dinner here as we were staying nearby & they have a decent varied menu with some good veggie options. When I called to book I was asked if we were bringing dogs, as they have a dog friendly dining ares, we weren't - but worth knowing anyway. We had a friendly welcome & the food was really fresh & tasty. I would have had a dessert if they'd offered cheese & biscuits, but unfortunately they don't. We all enjoyed our dinner - I'm definitely eating there again the next time I'm in Amble.
Walked a long distance along the coast via Guyzance & Warkworth & Amble, popped in for a lovely pint of Amstel and the service & people in the pub were so friendly! Decided to try a carvery there as when I went to the toilet it looked quite busy. Well what a great decision, I got a small Sunday carvery and it was well worth the money, the girls that serve are very helpful and polite, oh and the Amstel was lovely,I will be back!!! 🙂
Great meal and drinks friendly staff and dog friendly superb
Visited twice for food when on a short break in Amble. Friendly lass behind the bar, tasty food & decent service. Steak & ale pie was particularly nice. OK selection of beers too. No rating on rooms as did not stay. Worth a visit if you visit Amble.
Booked for their evening set menu. Great choice and good value, £17 for 2 courses Really friendly staff and locals, shame about the oldies tables next to us who just complained about anything they could when no need to
Best carvery in Northumberland Today's visit was an off chance visit on the hope there was table for us. We hit lucky and was kindly shown to our table. We were blown away by not only how beautiful the carvery was but how attentive and wonderful the staff were. Ali and Ryan were absolutely 5 star and couldn't of been more fantastic.. Happy and welcoming and so helpful. The food was beautiful and so much choice. Best carvery I've had to date. The meat was cooked to perfection. Desserts were also perfect. The staff at the carvery end, were also so kind and carried my mams dinner to our table with her being disabled. The was a 5 star carvery with a 5 star service. Absolutely returning again for seconds.
Had lunch today, myself my daughter and grandson. Absolutely beautiful. Food cooked fresh. A little waite for more veg Yorkie pudding's. But worth the wait. But that's what happens when food is prepared from scratch. Will be returning very soon. Staff amazing friendly, and very professional. Highly recommend 😊
Lovely place with friendly and inviting staff. The burger and chips was amazing, probably one of the best burgers iv had in a long time. No complaints on our table for any of the food, well prepared and lovely portions. I'd take a photo but it's all just empty plates!
We visited for the first time and had a really nice experience. The staff were kind and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was fresh and very tasty. The calamari was delicious and I would definitely order it again. The chicken schnitzel was also good, although for me there was a little too much garlic butter on top — I would prefer it on the side, but that’s just my personal taste. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and would happily return.
Just spent 4 very enjoyable nights there. Excellent location in Amble to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast and area. Very comfortable spacious rooms, clean, well decorated, hearty breakfast, free onsite car parking, good pub food /drink, and very friendly/efficient service. All in all a cracking place that we will stay at again when next in the area. Highly recommended.
We did not stay here, but came for dinner. The steak and ale pie was amazing as was the chicken pie. The sticky toffee pudding is the stuff of legends! The service was amazing. I can't remember our server's name, but she ran those table with smooth grace. If I were local that place would be my hang out.
We had the Sunday Carvery which delicious and excellent value for money. Then followed it up with a tea time visit once again excellent food. Highly recommend.
Sunday Carvery done right There were 8 of us booked in for Sunday Carvery, our table was perfect and we received such a warm welcome by the lovely staff, the whole party commented on how friendly everyone was. Our order was taken quickly and we all enjoyed the carvery, the food was warm and fresh with a great selection. Nothing seemed too much trouble and we were able to sit for a long time after we finished our food. Very happy campers at the Wellwood Arms
What can I say. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The staff are really friendly and will do anything they can to help you out. A special shout out to the young lady that was starting working in the restaurant of the morning of my breakfast. Although she appeared a little nervous, she did our absolute best to make sure my breakfast was an enjoyable meal. The breakfast was lovely. I had a main meal in the bar at night. I had lasagna and it was an absolutely gorgeous meal. I will return to this pub again. The prices are normal prices for the area and the location is quite close to the town centre. I managed to park the van in the car park easily and did notice that there was plenty of room throughout the day. Looking forward to my next trip already. Thanks again. Cheers Mark.
Superb pub and restaurant, very user friendly, good choice of beer's, food well cooked and still hot when you get it, we booked before we travelled to Amble for our 1st night. Good job. The sunday lunch is a must, dog and people friendly, staff that are prepared to help you if they can. Will be going again on our next Amble vacation. Massive respect to all the staff.
Came here with the family and can honestly say I love it. My dog was welcome inside with us. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Order my food and was so impressed. The starter was huge and delicately cooked. When the main came out, I was impressed with the size of the meat chunks in the pie, and the chips are home made. The pie is the best I’ve ever had! Meat melted in my mouth and the pastry was just second to none. I would absolutely recommend to anyone.
What a great place! Such a nice vibrant community hub! Dogs welcome! Friendly people and a great atmosphere … can’t wait to come back for some food
Didn’t dine here this review purely covers the accommodation. The room suited our needs as we literally needed a place to sleep after visiting friends that live in the local area but the room was dated and in need of some paintwork/cosmetic care. Bathroom was huge but absolutely freezing. Bed large and comfy. Emergency light shine above the door all night so if you can’t sleep with light in the room this may not be the place for you. Breakfast was included in the price which I knew I wouldn’t need. Feel for what I paid I was a little short changed and had I been staying to spend more time in the hotel I would have been disappointed but for what I needed it did the job.
The food was gorgeous. It all seemed homemade, the chips were thick with skin on, my ideal! Even on a reduced menu there was still ample to choose from! The staff were very friendly too, I cannot recommend this place enough
Stopped in for a meal on Sunday while on holiday in the area. Easy to book online. Good food and value for money. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Had a lovely carvery today. Also apple and raspberry crumble and custard. Very friendly staff. Dog friendly too.
We only go for a meal. The food is good & great price wise. Ideal for us is it is dog friendly. The staff are great & very friendly. It is our go to place when we come up to our static caravan.
Came for the Sunday carvery, it was amazing value and fantastically tasty! Lovely friendly staff offered a warm welcome, so we will return! Dog friendly too!
Very nice Sunday roast. We had 2 regular and 2 small, but plenty meat on each plate. Beautiful pork and turkey breast! Very tender. Would definitely return, but I'd have the small next time to possibly leave room for a pud! Parking in a small carpark and you need to register numberplate at reception, but can then leave the car for the day if you want to explore beautiful Amble.
Great pub just a little packed when I visited so service was a little impacted. Would defo go again
Great food and a good selection of beer. Staff and locals were friendly and we were able to take our dog in. Chicken and ham hock pie, gammon, fishfinger sandwich were all good.
Lovely meal. The staff had a busy evening but they soldiered on. The quiz night made the end of our evening. Will return soon
Do have some real ales, but had run out on our first visit. Nice staff and when they had beer it was reasonable lying good stuff.
Lovely Sunday lunch here. Dog friendly. Really nice staff. Great menu. Also large screen showing football. Really lovely pub and I’ll be back
Had a meal here and a few drinks. Service was good and staff nice. Annoyed with myself for not checking the bill as they'd added to pints to ours which we hadn't had. Menu was limited as they were changing the menu which is understandable.
Visited the Wellwood arms today for Sunday lunch, the standard carvery was about £15 and the large around £18 which isn’t a bad price for a good carvery, was disappointed that everything that make your Sunday dinner was frozen out of a bag, aunt Bessie style Yorkshire’s, frozen roast potatoes, frozen parsnip and stuffing was undercooked and bland wouldn’t have minded if it was a cheap dinner bit for those prices I’d of expected everything home cooked and fresh. On the upside the staff were very friendly and the place was exceptionally clean, just the carvery let it down a bit.
Went for Sunday lunch. It was a carvery. Veg was only just warm meat tasty. Don't think we will return.
Great night out. My meal was very good (spice burger) and lots of selection of beers. Staff very friendly. Only problem was the ribs somebody had ordered on our table, cost £18 and it was not worth it at all, sweetcorn dry and ribs looked like they were out of a packet. AVOID. The good point of the night was the quiz. Really enjoyed it.. Shame this one thing spoiled it.
Booked a table for 7 and gave us a table for 4. The online menu reads as a nice homemade roast, but it was everything but. On arrival there was a different menu to the online menu. Six out of seven people ordered a carvery. After a long wait (for a Sunday carvery that has been running all day) I asked for two out of the three meats, which were turkey and beef I got 1 slice of each. There was not enough Yorkshire puddings to get one with your meal. I asked if there would be enough yorkshires for the rest of my family and was told a member of staff would run to Morrisons to get some more. They had ran out of roast potatoes and it was the scraps veg of carrots, mash, peas, green beans. £15 per meal not well spent. Very disappointing
Friendly staff when we arrived in the evening, room adequate but over priced, bright green fire-exit sign not conducive to good nights sleep. Breakfast staff unfriendly, waited 10 minutes before we were even offered coffee, no pleasantries at all from her, more concerned with clearing up before we'd even finished. We were also had an extra £1 taken from debit card, without being informed of what this charge was for, we contacted them directly regards this via their website, but we have still not had a response from them at all, poor. Would not stay again. No response from management of Wellwood Arms speaks volumes!
Came for a carvery, left disappointed. The last carvery I had here was a good few years ago as I live in the south and brought my family up for a holiday and wanted to return and a few years back it was exceptional. I don’t know what’s happened lately but it was such a let down and feels like mis-advertising outside to have signs saying “try our new carvery” DONT because the new one is awful. The beef was the dryest meat I have ever had, I’m sure they started cooking it on Thursday as it was completely grey. Gammon was so dry my niece choked on it, turkey was acceptable but nothing great. No stuffing available, expensive mediocre commercial Yorkshire pudding and overcooked veg. I ordered cauliflower cheese that arrived when I had almost finished my carvery and was watery. Staff were fairly disinterested and although we pre booked they placed us at a table right next to the carvery so while eating everyone queued standing around our table, one lady lent on the back of my chair whilst I was eating and your constantly knocked by people. No one knows the prices either, on the menu Yorkshire pudding is on one side of the menu at £1.50 extra and further down on the same page it’s £2.50 extra (which is already criminal) then pigs in blankets are on the menu at £3.95 extra but on a sign above the carvery at £2.95!!! The staff haven’t got a clue what is going on. The comparison with how good this used to be years ago compared to now is a stark contrast. What a let down, save your money and go elsewhere. Took 5
I wish I could review higher, but it just feels a bit of a low quality offering. If I wanted a roast dinner from a supermarket I could buy it and do it myself. To be fair it tasted okay, but the roast potatoes are frozen and heated, the expensive Yorkies are commercial pre-made and the meat is too dry and overcooked. The veg is clearly large scale commercially bought. I guess there is a feeling when you go for a pub carvery that the Yorkies will be chef made and cooked fresh, the roast potatoes will be from fresh cut potatoes and the meat will be from large butcher supplied joints. But perhaps the relatively low prices are only possible with the quality compromises. Price seems to be the deciding factor, when in the past it was taste. Reply to Reply by Owner: Hi, I appreciate the reply. Hospitality is in a really tough place right now with a government who doesn't care about the costs being piled on to pubs and restaurants.......so I understand the pressure to provide good food at a reasonable price. Gold luck and I wish you success.
Booked the restaurant for the second time after a lovely meal previously. We were disappointed! There was no fish left on the menu and the chips were not homemade on this occasion. They were frozen scraps to be fair . The meals did not look appetizing with little presentation or effort to look nice. Looked like a plate if child's oven food to be fair. I am only pleased we paid half price which was all it was worth. Staff were v nice and friendly however. Wo not be rushing back.
Came on Easter Sunday for our carvery and the Yorkshire puddings were burnt while the roast parsnips, vegetables and cauliflower cheese were undercooked. The plates were cold and the portions mediocre. The meat, gravy and mashed potatoes were very nice, as were the staff. Overall very disappointing experience.
We did not have a room, so I'm just giving three stars. The service was ok, but the meal was the reason for the single star. The food really was grim. The "Warm Italian Salad" and "Veggie Pie" were about as dismal-looking as you could possibly imagine. Ditto the "Seasonal Veg". Flavours were bland. I wouldn't consider going back.
Had a "trio of meats" Sunday lunch for £18.95 which seemed expensive but I decided to treat myself. The three meats were a bit of chicken with a bone, some beef that was tough and some belly pork made entirely of fat. Frozen vegetables, burnt parsnips and a frozen Yorkshire pudding completed the disaster. Absolutely terrible, this place used to be lovely but it's gone right downhill. We won't be back.
Been today for Sunday lunch, the carvery is no longer a option, this was beautiful last time we visited so we ordered sunday lunch from menu hoping it would be just as good as I thought £15.95 was expensive for a chicken dinner! I have never been so disappointed to be served a chicken wing frozen Yorkshire pudding frozen peas and frozen parsnips, the creamed leeks were disgusting and the rosemary and sea salt roast potatoes sounded lovely but also were awful! When I paid I told the lady behind bar how disappointed we had been but she never offered any reimbursement we paid over £35 for 2 dinners a blackcurrant and soda and a coffee I feel robbed! I also found out that the pub has changed hands in june I think the new proprietors ought to take a look at their prices well over charging for meals I would grumble at paying £4.00 for the meal we had today!
Shocking food for shocking prices. What a shame, terrible food, presented badly and priced way to high for the quality, which is poor. The supervisor on duty however was very attentive and did give us 25% off our meal. But they really need some new kitchen staff because I would lay good money down that there isn’t a single member of staff in that kitchen taking pride in the food they are putting out. And that’s a real shame.
Nice pub for a drink but the food was terrible. They forgot my starter. Ordered sausages and buttery mash for my main. Sausages tasted like a cheap supermarket bought type. Mash was neither buttery or mashed properly and the Yorkshire pudding was rubbery like it had been heated up
We were all looking forward to a tasty meal and have never been so disappointed. I had fish and chips, fish was very dry and tasteless. My husband had sausage and mash, cheap sausages, lumpy tasteless mash and the most disgusting Yorkshire he’d ever had was like uncooked dough. My daughter had supposedly home made chicken and ham pie which again looked like a cheap supermarket offering. All in all a terrible experience.
The pub itself was nice with a good selection of drinks. I ordered the ribs which looked like they were out a packet and flung in the microwave! My husband’s had the sausages and mash and his wasn’t good either. Mash looked like it had been heated up in a microwave and the sausages looked like cheap supermarket ones unfortunately. It’s a shame as it was a lovely pub inside but I wouldn’t go back if the food was of the same standard!
