A great visit. A long time since we visited so we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful outdoor area and much bigger interior. Friendly staff and delicious food. Highly recommend.
The best food as always! Great service with a lovely cosy atmosphere. I always get the pie which is delicious and you can never go wrong with one of the cheesecakes! Devine!! Cant wait to return!
Great food and service. Early bird deal is great value
Wonderful Sunday Lunch, would highly recommend the Vane Arms!
Lovely pub with home cooked food. We stayed at the hideaway for one night and ate lunch here. The service was great, food portions were very large. All freshly and home made. Chips were lovely and brown. If we lived in the area would be a firm favourite. Excellent prices too. They had 2 cocktails for 12 pound and were really nice also. Was also nice and warm inside.
Went for breakfast this morning and got the smashed avocado with poached eggs it was 10/10 absolutely delicious 😋
Tried 2 dishes from the new lunch menu and I have to say they were really delicious the coconut bowl was more ginger than coconut maybe less ginger more lemon grass I would suggest to balance that out but still a lovely bowl of food. The smash burger was really nice crispy edges you could tell it was made fresh to order the cheese paired really well very happy with the new additions.
Went for a 1st visit on restaurant week. Lovely food, friendly staff & nice decor. I will return for another meal!
Had a lovely Lunch with my Hubby today, we were greeted by a lovely genuine welcome, staff were busy and food was delicious, hadn't been for a while x lovely atmosphere x
Set in the quaint village of Thorpe Thewles has a large beer garden for those summer nights, a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere welcomed by their staff. Meals and desserts are delicious. Try a brandy coffee to finish off the night. You won't be disappointed Gets a 10 out of 10 for me. 💓
Exceptional meal. The King Prawn flatbread was amazing. Large juicy and tasty prawns. Then the parmo was very tasty👌. The service was outstanding. Cannot praise the lads and lasses enough. Lovely atmosphere. A beautiful traditional country pub. Highly recommended.
Beautiful pub and atmosphere, Staff were very friendly and polite food was amazing and so fresh, and served very quickly would definitely recommend and we will be back again thankyou
Lovely little pub with great food and good service. The fillet was cooked to perfection. I'm also aware others have recommended the Sunday roast here as well. You may need to book at busy times to guarantee a table.
We had a lovely afternoon tea in the function room for my sister’s hen do. All of the staff were really helpful and welcoming. Craig and the team were excellent in accommodating our needs and making the occasion special. We would definitely come back again and would 100% recommend.
Excellent food. Very accommodating and I’ll definitely be back !
Lovely family meal here; Sunday lunch was fantastic and the private dining room was lovely and made it really special. A big thank you to the staff who were absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend a trip to the Vane Arms.
good Friday tea time after being in the park with our grandkids 6 of us had booked a table here for lunch at 1.15! We arrived early and were seated in a lovely window seat! We ordered 3 fish and chips , 2 parmo chickens and a childrens meal which was free! We waited a while for our food but everything was freshly cooled and tasted amazing! The childrens free meal was fit for an adult not your normal measly portion!! It was all delicious we will be back
The Vane hosted a social evening for our choir last night. We had a fabulous evening through the fantastic service provided by Craig and his lovely staff who went out of their way to make sure we had a great evening. We were all made to feel so welcome, terrific value food and a free bottle of Prosecco thrown in. The best chips too! It is my local pub and this is typical of the welcome we always receive. Would thoroughly recommend.
Best place around up North. We live down south this is the only place I will go to when visiting family. Food is amazing. And staff are fab 👌
Had our baby shower here in the back room. Lovely environment and really friendly
We had a top Sunday lunch and a great afternoon with the kids in the large beer garden. Highly recommended.
Went for sunday lunch which was amazing. BUT please let the customer decide where they want their gravy. The food came with gravy already poured which meant soggy yorkshire pudding and potato . A gravy jug is a must !! Also your wifi code is lazy... for customer ease, please change it
On the 19th of June 25 my family and I visited the Vane Arms, we had not been before, The Drinks, The food and the Service All Excellent, one small Niggle , the Table was very sticky, but I will be going again, very nice Experience.
Went with my dad. We both had the steak pie. It was the best steak pie ever. Lots of lean well cooked meat and light pastry. Absolutely 💯. Lovely setting and ambience. Great staff. I will definitely go again when visiting my dad.
Had a great night here this evening our waiter Luke was fantastic very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was delicious. Will definitely return and recommend
Lovely meal, served hot by friendly staff. It was a quiet Tuesday night but we enjoyed the atmosphere. Parking was ready and if it had been warmer we could have eaten outside. No steps so good for wheelchairs.
Really good quality food. Myself and my partner had the sirloin and fillet steaks, both cooked exactly how we ordered and tasted great. Service was fast and all the staff were very friendly and super helpful for us and other tables around. Fair price for the quality of our meals. Will definitely be coming back.
The food to price ratio here is obscene, for what they’re charging I’ve had worse in 5 star restaurants, sincerely phenomenal scran. I had the chicken parmo, with a salad which was beautifully cooked and seasoned, and a cheesecake which was easily one of the best I’ve ever had and I chase these things down on the whisper of a rumour. If I were held at gunpoint and forced to pick fault I’d say the chips could be cooked a touch longer but it doesn’t knock a decimal off my 10/10
Just been tonight for a family birthday celebration the service was great the staff are so friendly and helpful. The food was superb the home made steak pie is the best in any restaurant I’ve been in. We only live 15 minutes away but do not go often enough cannot think of a nicer cosy environment in the local area will certainly make an effort to use more in 2026
Held a wedding party here in the function room which was fantastic. All the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble, every guest need was tended to and everyone had a fantastic time. We also had use of the rear patio and decking area which was also wonderful. Very professional and friendly staff. Had a buffet which comprised of sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad, crisps, quiche and hot chips and potato wedges. This was followed by a great selection of desserts with a big bowl of strawberry Eaton mess. All food was tasty and fresh and delicious.
The best Sunday dinner we’ve ever had out! We’re always a bit dubious about trying somewhere new because I’m fussy in how a place feels. When we walked in straight away I felt so at home. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. Service was brilliant, attentive and we had everything in great time. The food….unreal, the bruschetta you’d expect to be pretty standard…this one was so tasty and the salad was really fresh. The dinner was superb 👌🏼 Everything about it was perfect, taste, presentation and combination of accompanying veg. Cannot fault it other than I ate far more than I would have because I didn’t want to leave it. My hubby had a dessert too which was again perfection, the Brûle was so tasty. Can’t believe we’ve never been before today, one thing is for sure we will definitely be going back. Well done to The Vane you smashed it.
We have eaten a few times now at the Vane Arms. Today's lunch was just perfect. We had to eat outside, as we knew in advance that the conservatory (dog friendly area) was booked out. But we really enjoyed the unusual warm autumn sunshine. Nothing was too much trouble, even bringing water bowl for my dog and giving him a stroke. Food came in good time and was just lovely. We had a really nice meal. Thank you.
My family ( 10 people) went for Christmas Dinner this year 2025 and I can honestly say , it was the best we have had on Christmas Day in a restaurant. The food was served very hot and all at the same time. No mix ups with orders and we got a lovely glass of fizz on arrival. Each course was delicious and we finished with mince pies and coffee. We will be definitely booking for next year . Thank you to all the staff who worked very hard , you were all amazing x
Went on a Wednesday evening and tried the 'early bird' menu (3 courses, before 6pm, for £20). Good food, nice setting and friendly staff. Will be returning to try the other dishes.
Nice place , easy to book and get parked near. Fish and chips real good , fish was massive and fresh white fish , good value. I went for lamb ( I love lamb, but family don't like it , so it was a treat ) much of lamb not edible , quality was very poor , complained and go some knocked off bill , but not really enough to make up for most expensive thing on menu being real bad. Person serving us did say that there had been issues with lamb ,well if there was issues why are you still serving it to people?
Long time since I visited this pub lovely pint after a great hike very nice welcome
There were 4 of us and we had Sunday lunch. Booked up using the app that was super easy. So this place is more expensive than other eateries. However, you can see why. The food is excellent. I can recommend the sirloin of beef which was probably one of the best I have had. The wife got pork which looked just as tempting. There's no shortage of food here we ordered the cauliflower cheese as an extra. Service was quick efficient and courteous. The pub has a lovely freindly warm atmosphere and by the way it was nice and warm. Overall, it was lovely and would not hesitate to go back for Sunday lunch. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars Is because I have not tried any of the other types of dishes. I normally take photos but on this occasion I just got tucked in straight away. Sorry.
The staff and ambience are very nice. The food is tasty and the chicken parmesan was delicious although the beef slices in my daughter's ciabatta was too pink for me personally. The fish and chips were generous but the mushy peas tasted like they were out of a tin which is disappointing however would definitely recommend. The desserts were nice but the Ice cream could have been better quality ie jersey ice cream or similar.
Venue is lovely and service good. My food wasn't great though....scampi and chips, straight from the frozen section of a supermarket or so it seemed. The wine was also warm and the replacement bottle was cheap.
We came in for food this evening, we ordered and had to wait 40 minutes for the starter to come out, then another 30 minutes for our ‘smash’ burgers, these were lovely however cannot be marketed as a smash burger at all due to how thick the patty was. The food up to this point had been pleasant, however when they brought out the brownie this let them down massively. It was completely overcooked, dry and incredibly difficult to eat, especially due to the fact it was smothered in an incredibly thick chocolate sauce. Overall, we would be willing to come back here however the wait time was completely unacceptable and the quality of dessert really let them down.
Another let down this week, hit with a smell of grease upon opening the front door. Food took a long time to arrive, we were told an extra 5 mins, which ended up being around 50 minutes for starters. Male server/ manager was on the ball but young female servers didn't seem to have much training and no hospitality. Starter was very overpriced. Main, steak pie was full of meat and had a lot of potential but it was dry, weirdly seasoned and lacked a decent amount of gravy. Had potential but was a miss for us.
While the food was lovely and couldnt fault the staff serving . Its the length of time we had to wait to get our food . Table booked for 1pm we actually got our meal at 2.05 .
Waited around 90 minutes for the food to come, two kids meals came 10 minute apart, one bowl of veg initially between 6 adults so had to request more. We were there for over 2 hours in total and didn't get asked if we wanted extra drinks, or dessert. Food was delicious, but severely let down by the service.
The food has unfortunately taken a dip at the Vane Arms. Starter: Scotch Egg, was served raw, this should have been spotted and corrected as its served cut it half. Mains: Fish and chips, lets start with the positive, good batter. Sadly that's where it ends, fish was bland/wet and had very little taste and the chips which are normal good here were like potato skins. We've eaten here often and sadly the quality has taken a dip the last few visits things haven't been upto scratch and we'll probably give it a miss for a while.
Aparently a nice place, quite busy at times, but.... The food is quite bad, I been unlucky to get a lactose free burger that actually made me so sick ... I have no clue what they put in... I don't recommend them, stay away! Be safe!
We booked a table for 630 on a Wednesday. We finally got the main meal 745. The children's burger had a blob of meat and had to be sent back. 2 people got mussels that were stuck to both sides of the shell. 3 of us got white crab linguine. One barely had any sauce and another was swimming in sauce. We spooned it from 1 plate to another. The sea Bass itself was fine but the potato rosti were burnt on the outside and slimy n raw on the inside, the rest drenched in oil. The chicken was a little under cooked so it wasn't eaten. Chips luke warm. Overall, it is overpriced for the quality of food and service.
We booked a table for 7pm and when we arrived we got told the table wasn’t ready which we understood. We sat at the bar and asked if we could sit in the conservatory to wait which we did . We then got seated 30 minutes later at a table . The mussels we ordered for starters where gorgeous , we then got a hotshot Parmesan and a smash burger . the hotshot Parmesan just had all of the things on top nothing imbedded in and the the burger wasn’t a smash burger it was two rock hard patties on top of eachother that I couldn’t eat . The service was a bit slow which we understood being due to Christmas . We payed nearly £50 for something we really didn’t enjoy . We got recommended not to come here after being told it’s went down hill after being taken over . Simple don’t recommend.
The vane arms Thorpe Thewles- Christmas lunch £120 a head - included prosecco and didn’t get any - prawn and lobster starter - no lobster in sight and presented in a side plate with scattered lettuce and the cheapest smallest prawns and a teaspoon of Marie Rose sauce along with bread and no butter and when we asked for butter we were presented with a tiny square of it and told to share it between the 6 of us as they had ran out !! The main meal had no Yorkshire puddings and the parsnips were served black - couldn’t eat them - the roasts were so had to scrap the potato out as couldn’t cut them ! Finally the Christmas pud was postage size and cold along with a cold white sauce - shocking
Came here for our Christmas dinner… absolutely appalling for £120 per head. The quality of food was shocking, our appetisers were disgusting, no lobster on our ‘prawn and lobster cocktail’ as advertised. Our main dinner was cold and items were inedible as they were burnt. No Yorkshire puddings, we were told to use the butter sparingly as they had ran out. Sticky toffee pudding was dry and cold, no complimentary prosecco. I left the majority of the food. Had to constantly ask for condiments, I felt ill on Boxing Day due to what I had eaten.
Very disappointed with xmas meal, absolutely atrocious quality food for how expensive it was. Out of our party of 4, 3 of us were disgusted with the whole meal. The meat was overcooked, the one pigs in blanket on the plate was completely cindered, the veg portion size for 4 was minute. We had to constantly chase up items that were missing, including sauces, complimentary drinks etc. Would not recommend this venue for xmas food
