The Old Black Bull

Visited the Old Black Bull for Sunday lunch with family. It's everything I would look for in a pub for this occasion. Friendly, cosy, fire in the fireplace, great range of drinks including a well kept range of beers. The food was excellent, exactly as hoped, and generous and we enjoyed it, left feeling very satisfied. Not the cheapest Sunday roast but so good that it represents good value, I hope to visit again.

Guests from London staying with us at Birdforth Hall Cottages at the weekend ate at The Bull on Saturday, reported back that the food was superb - only beaten by the friendly, attentive service of Kev and the Girls! We always get great feedback for the food, the service - and the beer! Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

As visitors to the area, we were looking for a dog friendly pub and were not disappointed at The Old Black Bull. The very friendly host gave us a full rundown of the locally farmed meat and produce, promised the best steaks in the area , and we chose a ribeye and a sirloin from the Wednesday Steak Specials (20% off!) We were served succulent steaks, cooked to perfection, and the accompanying chips were also superb. The just was not right - both meals were excellent. Friendly staff, a lovely atmosphere, would highly recommend this hidden gem. We will definitely call again when in the area.

What a lovely traditional Yorkshire pub! The staff were so friendly and the food was amazing! We took my grandad to this pub in which he hadn’t been for over 50 years! He loved every minute of it!

We had a lovely meal here today after pumpkin picking at Spilmans with our nieces and nephews. Really attentive with helping the kids choose what to eat and really tasty food. Will definitely be back again if in the area. Thank you!

Fabulous food at this friendly local pub in Raskelf. Cod dish was divine, chicken kiev homemade with excellent fat chips. Landlord is super friendly and helpful as are all the staff. Felt very at home here, although a Londoner!! Will definitely be back!!

Great pub, the owners are very friendly and the food was great. I had the fish and chips and it was top quality. Also had the Sunday chicken roast the other day, it was really good. Another amazing meal! Chicken parmo hot stuff, bloody awesome!!! Thank you chef Steve, you're the man!

My wife and I just called in at the Black Bull on spec while travelling up north on the A19 on Sunday lunch time. It was showing up on the sat nav as somewhere to eat, nearby. The landlord said he was fully booked and had already turned down 250 bookings for that weekend, but if we didn't mind a bit of a wait, a table was coming free and he could squeeze us in. The pub was very pleasant and an obvious attraction for many locals. The landlord and staff were friendly and very attentive; the food was excellent! It was well worth the wait, I can see why this is such a successful & popular pub. Neil

Really friendly staff, great food, lovely atmosphere - across the group we had the lamb shank special which was delicious, an amazing lemon sole, and fish and chips. Puddings were lovely too. Definitely worth a second visit.

Excellent Sunday lunch. All meat very local. A stunning nut roast alternative. Very highly recommend if you're looking for a traditional, comfy & cosy, well furnished pub serving quality local produce.

This place is just consistently excellent. Kevin is an outstanding host and the food is sensational. One of the best pubs in the area, hands down.

The food was delicious and we were made so welcome as soon as we arrived. A good wine list, too. We will definitely be back soon- highly recommend.

What a wonderfully warm and friendly pub this is. We went for their Parmo Club night last night. The food was gorgeous, really tasty, and the staff were super friendly. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely wonderful establishment. We were looked after from start to finish and the service was second to none. The food was just as good, we were overwhelmed with how nice the homemade desserts were, particularly the salted caramel cheesecake. Thanks so much for everything, definitely would recommend.

Possibly my new favourite pub! Food was excellent. Landlord very welcoming and staff very friendly and keen to help. Worth the journey to get to. Looking forward to returning when the fires are lit for the winter months.

An absolute gem of a pub. We had a delightful meal with the standout being the steaks made from locally raised cattle. Kevin, the landlord, is the MVP; a fabulous host.

Just moved to the area and went for dinner. Kev and staff are so welcoming and the food was outstanding. Very lucky to have this on our doorstep.

I can't tell you about the rooms but the food is absolutely gorgeous. I had the most delicious Sunday roast there yesterday. I will never cook a Sunday roast again. My own can't beat it.

Delicious family Easter Sunday lunch enjoyed by all. The Old Black Bull country pub in a village setting was warm and inviting. Staff were very attentive and friendly, we would recommend without hesitation.

This is a must-visit if you are staying locally. The food is lovely, the staff are lovely and friendly, and the surroundings are lovely. It is very reasonably priced. The burger and the beef and ale pie were to die for!!!

Booked here for our 21st anniversary meal, we have never found a restaurant/pub with such quality food and service like this, Kev & the team work perfectly together, a warm friendly welcome from start to finish, if you want cheap food don’t go here, limited menu but quality overrules! dig deep and you get more than what you pay for, will be going back again soon, looking forward to the winter months when the fires lit. No snobby toffs asking to take your jacket ponsing around you, just good traditional friendly Yorkshire banter. Not enough stars to rate this pub.

What a great find The Old Bull at Raskelf is. We visited with my parents for Sunday lunch today. Has to be the best food we have tasted in a long time and the chocolate brownie was to die for! 😋😋 Kevin, the landlord was so welcoming and all the staff were so attentive… 10/10 for food and service. Thank you for a great lunch… so good I’ve booked again for the 12th December! 👍

A return to this village pub after a very very long absence. What a fantastic meal we had. We were looked after from the minute we went in till the minute we left. Why haven't we been back sooner l do not know, the food was fabulous. I just want a gym membership now. We will be back. p.s. the lemon sole was perfect 👌

An absolute peach of a pub serving a fantastic Sunday lunch. Huge portions perfectly cooked. Owners were very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous in every way.

Friends and I went for a Saturday evening meal - we were not disappointed. All meals were of a very highly standard and beautifully presented. The landlord was very attentive and very obliging. The atmosphere was very lively as the pub was hosting the local cricket team - well they had just won ! But this added to the atmosphere and made everything more fun! Well done 👍

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got round to it. We had the friendliest welcome and service I think I've ever experienced. The food is absolutely top tier. Thank you for a great evening, will see you again soon.

First time visiting here, had a meal steak and ale pie, absolutely gorgeous, I couldnhave drank the gravy by the pint. Lovey little pub quite busy, nice atmosphere and the owner landlord was brilliant seemd to ran ragged seeing to every customer in the pub. Will definitely be visiting again, next time I visit my sister. Thank you

The hospitality at the Old Black Bull is wonderful. We were made to feel exceptionally welcome and everyone that arrived while we were there was greeted with warmth. The service is attentive and no request is too much bother. We would return just for the atmosphere. The food is great. The Scottish Mussels excellent as was the Steak Pie. We decide review ratings as a family and the reason I can't give it 5 stars is that the guys appreciated the taste of their burgers but said there was no texture in the burger patty.

A cut above pub food, very friendly staff, good drink selection, good idea to pre book if you want food at the weekend. Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry. There’s a small car park round the back and street parking. Good sized bar area too

Stopped off at this pup whilst visiting the area by bike with my girlfriend. Very friendly helpful staff. Nice bsunny outdoor space fronting the pub and great well-priced drinks. Only down side was that was not really any vegan food options.

Called in for evening meal on a Thursday, had excellent steak and ale pie followed by sticky toffee pudding, welcoming & attentive staff, only downside was the addition of a service charge which I think was a bit much for a pub meal

I had Sunday dinner with the inlaws. The food was very good, med- slightly higher price range. However the food, taste, presentation and service from staff and surroundings were really good. A Olde world pub over 500 years old. In a nice village. The pub was very clean, decor was trendy and in keeping with age if the pub. Staff were welcoming and the atmosphere was friendly within the pub. Which is important

The meal we had was roast beef Angus for me it was very fatty and chewy the cuts of meat almost resembling thin fatty bacon rashers.
