Thank you, Nema, for making my partner's Sunday breakfast birthday celebration so special. Betty's is a must-visit; I was initially unsure if it was worth it, but I'm glad I trusted the positive reviews and decided to go. The Christmas coffee, Christmas tea, and Rascal scones were fantastic! The store itself is definitely worth a visit. I personally wouldn’t enjoy sitting in the underground room, so I recommend waiting a bit longer to sit upstairs and enjoy the beautiful streets of Harrogate through the lovely view.

Lovely lunch here in great victorian elegance. Great service wonderful food. Not bad pricing. Whats there not to like!

I highly recommend this place. The best place for having tea in any celebration. Playing live music, staff are lovely, place is nicely decorated. Sandwiches and desserts are served in perfection ❤️👌

From the moment we sat down the staff were so efficient and friendly. Every last detail was well thought out. We felt at home and given we had a couple of dietary requirements, this was all handled in such a professional manner. If I’m in Harrogate again or any of the other of Betty’s locations, I’ll be sure to be visiting again. Unfortunately, I don’t live local!

Absolutely lovely experience at Betty’s Harrogate. We had Daniel as our server and it really felt like he went above & beyond to give us a great experience for the entire duration. Very attentive and caring, always checking in on us. The food itself was glorious, the live pianist in the corner and the endless tea was gorgeous. Would highly recommend!

Me and my partner dined here for the first time to celebrate her Birthday and we could not rate Betty’s highly enough. From the exquisite food and drinks to the attentive staff to the relaxing ambiance with the piano being played in the background. We will definitely return :)

Birthday treat in lovely Harrogate and what a treat 👏 perfect service, love the white tablecloths and proper napkins. Thank you to James who looked after us. Everything was just ‘perfect’ yes it’s expensive (you can ask for more savoury which we did) but you know for the ambiance, service, piano music, location and yes of course the delicious food it’s worth it. Tick it off your bucket list if you have one 🥳5/5👜👜👜👜👜 handbag cafe review.

Me and my partner went for bookable afternoon tea and it was faultless! Impecible service, delicious food, beautiful teas and lavish surroundings. Will happily return to experience it all over again! Worth every penny!

We visited Bettys Tea Room in Harrogate on Sunday and queued at around 11am. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated, which felt reasonable. The host was very welcoming and handed us menus to look at while we waited. I ordered the Eggs Royale and my partner went for the full English breakfast. The portion sizes were decent and the quality of the food really stood out. Every item on the full English was absolutely delicious, and we were offered a selection of chutneys and sauces. We tried all three chutneys: tomato, red onion and apple. Apple was my favourite. My Eggs Royale came with a generous portion of salmon and plenty of spinach, and everything was well cooked and nicely presented. The service throughout was friendly, and efficient. I went in expecting Bettys to be a bit of a tourist trap, but I understand now why it’s so popular. A really pleasant surprise with high-quality, well-prepared food. I’ll definitely be going back!

Five of us arrived in good time for breakfast at Betty’s, as part of a 60th Birthday Weekend away. We were seated just before the queue started. Everyone ordered a different dish and we also shared cinnamon toast😋 The food, as expected, was fabulous- everything was prepared to perfection. We chose various teas/fresh juice. It was all wonderfully sumptuous; heavenly in fact! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Only shopped here due to time but very friendly and informative shop. Their fancies were great. Definitely coming back for more shopping and trying their teas

We had a fantastic experience, the food was wonderful, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was phenomenal with the pianist. It was my birthday, and they gave a little sponge cake with a candle which was a lovely touch. Biebs our server was amazing. He was very friendly, funny, attentive went above and beyond just serving us, gave us a quality experience. Overall it was very nice and high end without feeling pretentious- will revisit soon!

We visited the Imperial Room in order to celebrate a special birthday and were very will looked after by the team. From our reception to our departure, we were treated with kindness and patience (especially when we were struggling to decide what tea and which sandwiches we wanted to sample!) The food was amazing with some really interesting flavour variations and genuinely pleasant surprises - who knew blue cheese and pear would make such a tasty macaroon? We'll definitely be back for the next big event!

We had a Fabulous visit, 2 adults 1 child, one of us gluten-free and the other Vegan but was amazing for all of us and we were provided with menus perfect for out requirements. Food was amazing. Very relaxed and lovely atmosphere with the pianist playing in the background. Was a lovely treat, and lovely service.

What an amazing place. The staff are so friendly, the atmosphere really relaxing even though it gets super busy. But with no booking we only waited max ten minutes before getting a table. The festive afternoon tea was beautiful, and couldn’t even finish. Ended up having the sweet treats to take out (which I ended up giving to a homeless chap on the street as he was hungry). Love this place, and definitely will be back.

Festive afternoon tea was delicious, good portion and presentable. Imperial room is good and love the set up and atmosphere. Staff were all super friendly and attentive. James, was friendly and welcoming, super friendly and kind, always with a smile and attention to detail!!! The shop is also lovely offering lots of options for gifting.

What a joy! We opted for the room with the beautifully played piano and the champagne tea. It was, after all a big treat. Utterly lovely waitress and delicious sandwiches ( we were offered as many more as we wanted) scones jam and cream, then beautiful little patisserie all served on pretty cake stand. As much tea, coffee etc as you wish. Ive never had an afternoon tea before so the bar is now very high!!

My wife having ordered online previously and seen the shop when last in Harrogate over 3 years ago had suggested we go in. Whilst an orderly queue was formed outside, we patiently waited for about 5 - 10 mins. Inside we were seated and served by attentive and professional staff. Ok, so we only had sandwiches, hot chocolate and gooey fat rascals - they were by far some of the nicest we have had.

great service from our waiters james and karen, with great food and a lovely relaxing atmosphere! very knowledgeable about recommending teas as well. we went for afternoon tea and one of our party didn’t eat pork, so they made a seperate lunch with more sandwiches to replace the pork ones.

Very famous and iconic destination for tea, cakes, scones and hot food. We were a group of nine but split up into a 5 and 4 table. It gets very busy and there is an orderly queue outside. You have to wait in line before being seated. I think we waited for about 25mins before being taken into our table. The lady keeping things in check was very organised and on point, hats off to her as youd have to be. Once in, the restaurant was warm, and it didn't feel cramped. It was very well organised, the service was excellent. We were seated, and I think we probably waited another 7ish minutes before our order was taken. It was quite a big restaurant with seating all round the back and sides and I think there was a mezzanine level as well. The food was good. I had the avocado and poached egg on sourdough bread which was delicious. Accompanied with a pot of earl grey. My mum wife and friend had a mix of croquet monsieur, scone and a slice of coffee cake. Nice ambience. We didn't feel rushed and had a pleasant relaxing meal. Good experience, not the cheapest but you have to come. There's also a shop to the right as you come in selling, tea, coffee, scones, biscuits and totee bags etc. Rather expensive but we left with a lovely tin of spiced tea. Good all round experience, if youre not the patient type and not in a rush, then this is the place to come. I would probably go back with my wife and try more of the cakes.

We were blown away by the friendly customer service, all the staff were superb especially Karen who popped back to our table to ask if we wanted any more sandwiches cakes or tea, which were all delicious. We didn't feel rushed at all, seated in the Imperial room we had already booked ahead. The rooms decor was extremely beautiful and the piano playing created an unique background to this special occasion.

Our friend who lived in Harrogate for years suggested we go to Betty's for tea and it didn't disappoint! There was a line outside but it moved quite fast and we were seated within ten minutes. I got the club sandwich and my husband got the afternoon tea. Everything was yummy and looked fantastic! The service was stellar and the decor was very nice inside. We really enjoyed the afternoon there! I would highly recommend it.

First time at Bettys, and it did not disappoint! We had the grande breakfast, the quality and quantity of the food was amazing! The staff were very attentive and welcoming. Definitely worth the money!

A must visit when you are in Harrogate even if you need to queue. The wait is not long. Betty's has a very cosy ambience. The menu is extensive and makes you want to try many dishes. We decided on the English breakfast including the vegan option. Accompanied by a pot each of Betty's tea blend and Breakfast tea. The desserts were yummy too (Engadine Torte and the Fruit Tart).

Bettys afternoon tea was a delight. Been recommended by many people in the Harrogate area, so I took the wife. She absolutely loved it. She had the raspberry tea and me, the coffee. Sandwiches were good, scones were great, make sure you ask for more clotted cream and jam, you don’t have to pay extra, the cakes were delightful. Could do with a couple more though 😋 Unsure if extras, like additional cakes and sandwiches are free, some people around were getting additional, we were offered an additional sandwich which we took and it was not added to the bill, which was a nice surprise. Stunning tea room, clean decor. Love pianist playing in the corner of he room is a beautiful touch. Service was great, very attentive. Lena looked after us well. Overall, a highly recommended experience if you’re in the area. You can book online or queue up outside in the huge queue that is there daily!

Today I was served at Betty's by Evie, and she was the most polite, sweet and kindest waitress I have ever been served by. This was truly an extraordinary experience, and the food was honestly most fulfilling. I hope to return to this establishment some day for further dining, and am very pleased by my experience today !

Absolutely fantastic, we had a great time. I have always wanted to go and our visit did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great we had the pianist near us adding to the ambience. The food was delicious. Our server was attentive, kind and friendly. It was our anniversary and our server made sure it was special. Would highly recommend a fabulous experience.

Great experience as you’d expect from Betty’s. We’ve visited for a bookable afternoon tea, which is a bit more pricey than in the cafe, but you get live music, as well as bottomless sandwiches with some extra savouries - so no one is leaving hungry! Good vegetarian offering and we were able to swap sandwiches around.

We have always wanted to visit but sadly the queues have always been too long. Today, there was hardly any queue, so we seized the opportunity. Every member of staff we met was friendly, polite, and chatty. The food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. We didn't feel rushed. The tea and scones were delicious. The bathroom facilities were also immaculately clean. The atmosphere in the tea room was calm and serene. For a busy tea room, this is hard to achieve, but Betty's manages it with ease

S

An amazing afternoon tea experience. Well worth the money. Beautiful understated and calm decor, live pianist, excellent food, great choice of teas, knowledgeable and friendly staff with a lovely sense of humour. Great veggie and GF options. Particular metion to our waiter Daniel, a really lovely young man. Thank you!

Had high tea in the posh room, with the Disney loving piano player in the corner. Food was good, but was miffed to be charged extra for a glass of lemonade after paying a large amount for tea and cakes.

P

Loved it. Lovely. Nice staff and not really that expensive for the quality. We bought coffee and tea in the shop afterwards

J
Julie Thomas

Can understand why people queue to get in and the queue does go down quickly. From start to finish we were treated to the best service. We chose not to have the afternoon tea like most others in there were having but opted for main courses and desserts which were amazing. Happened to mention that it was my hubby's birthday and a fondant fancy with candle was given to him(much to his horror) but it was a lovely touch and a nice finish to our visit.

Betty's is an institution and a must visit.. the evening menu is fantastic, as are the rascals which you can have any day/time. The staff are always cordial and I love the theme is maintained, taking you back in time.

We celebrated our 20th anniversary here as we love Bettys tea so drove up from Milton Keynes especially to have afternoon tea here. In fact, we also visited the York and RHS Harlow Carr cafes over the weekend. The atmosphere was so comfortable, tha staff friendly and attentive and the food delightful. Gail and Tanya served us and we're extremely attentive and welcoming. I would live to visit again. We purchased some gifts from the shop too!

Apparently the best among the chain. A bit of a wait (15-25mins) before I was seated. Had a proper lunch instead of booking the afternoon tea session. Great selection of food. Tried the Betty’s Burger which I have been reading a lot, it was okay, not a big fan tho. The mushroom soup of the day may not look that appealing but it it tasted great! The cheesecake was delectable and was served with fresh berries. Their salted caramel latte is a must try. Portions are decent. Staff service was superb. Overall a great experience!

Went there for a breakfast with my partner, lovely location. Food was good and high quality, I got the English Breakfast and he got a Fat Rascal (you definitely have to try), we accompanied the meal with two type of teas, they were both from Betty’s and were exceptional. The shop is greatly organised and has a lot of different options, definitely good for gift ideas! Definitely going back and super recommended!

So be prepared to queue! That's the only negative I can give regarding sitting in to eat at this fabulous cafe. It's quite pricey. Me and my girlfriend each had one hot drink, a burger and a slice of cake and the bill came to approx £64. But we walked away feeling like it was money very well spent. The food is delicious, as we're the drinks, I opted for the hot chocolate and my girlfriend went for the mocha, both were very creamy and tasted amazing. The burger was out of this world, it may have been £20 but it was worth every single penny, I added bacon onto mine as well (I mean come on, it's bacon!!). We finished with a cake of the trolley and walked away very happy. The food was amazing, the service was equally as good, if not better. Polite, chatty (but not overkill), helpful and very knowledgeable in the many many cakes on offer. Table service is available to bring stuff from the shop, not a bad idea if your belly is full from indulging, but we chose to walk around the shop. We wanted to buy some French fancies (these are amazing) but sadly on the day we went they had sold out, this resulted in sad faces for a period of time. But we would happily come back again and enjoy the dining experience and deliciousness of this wonderful gem.

"Bettys made my wedding cake experience absolutely perfect! The cake was not only visually stunning but also utterly delicious—crafted with the finest ingredients and that signature Bettys touch. The ordering process was seamless, and the delivery was effortless, making it all stress-free on such an important day. I couldn’t be happier with the incredible service and the beautiful centerpiece they created for my wedding. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable wedding cake!"

The iconic British tea room. It did not fail to deliver. Get set for a wait for a table that is well worth it. We went Friday about 11am through the queue for a luxury team experience. The staff were helpful and made a fuss over our kids, adapting the menu to compensate for dietary issues with Rapid friendly service. We had a sumptuous brunch of the autumnal poached eggs and avocado, eggs florentine, scrambled eggs on muffin and a kids vege rascal breakfast. The hot chocolate was overflowing, juice was fresh, chocolate milkshake delightful and the cream tea at perfection. Our kids had a great time, we enjoyed a lovely brunch and I highly recommend a visit.

I went with my sister's to celebrate being able to be together & our joint Xmas/ Birthday celebrations. We had Afternoon Tea with Tea rather than the fizz. It was very fresh & tasty , the top layer small Fancies/ Cakes were excellent, as were the Scones etc. Waited on at the Tables by staff in Traditional Aprons, polite, efficient & a memory to treasure for the future.

Betty’s Cafe Tea room is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth the wait. The line was long throughout the day, which shows how popular it is! We enjoyed tea and cake, along with a macaroon, and loved every bite. Afterwards, we visited the shop and picked up a Fat Rascal - such a lovely treat. A must-visit for anyone looking for a charming and classic tearoom experience.

Everything was exquisite. Best afternoon tea we've had. The staff were very friendly and attentive, checking in regularly and providing good tea recommendations, and the food was so tasty. The Yorkshire sausage roll, part of the apetiser, was just perfect. We also inhaled two plates of sandwiches, and following that, the scones and pastries hit the spot. The live piano music was top-notch, really adding to the ambiance. Definitely a must-do if you're in Harrogate. Note: if anyone saw me fervently scoffing my food, just know I'm not sorry, and will be doing it again.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed our meal.

I’ve enjoyed the Afternoon Tea experience. I think the “desserts” part was better than sandwiches. Sandwiches can be improved, some of them tasted a bit plain. I would say that the price is a bit too high. We stayed in the line for about 15 minutes so it’s better to book a table in advance. Overall it’s an amazing experience especially if you are a tourist and want to see what’s “Afternoon tea” experience is all about.

C
Craig Dunderdale

A beautiful traditional team room and shop. If you are going to Harrogate as a tourist you MuST go if only for a “Fat Betty” 😉 A but pricey but we all have to spoil ourselves with the best on occasions.

T
Thomas

Great! Lovely food but overpriced tbf and I’m not a cheap person but jeez they think they can rip you off like that..

D
Daniel McTigue

An experience however for £45 each I can't see why it's so expensive other than the reason that it's quite famous. The afternoon tea was nice just felt that the sandwiches could've had better fillings in though

S
Summer

Visited Betty’s in York over a decade ago, and only just realized this is the original location. Service was excellent—warm and attentive without being overly formal. The food was fresh and decent, though nothing particularly outstanding in terms of flavor. Still, the non-reservation queue downstairs was packed with people waiting to get in. If you’re a fan of Darjeeling tea, this place is definitely worth a visit.

M
Michael

Great service and atmosphere, not waiting long for food. Prices are high but it’s more because it’s a tourist attraction vs quality of food. Overall really nice though.

G
Gordon I

Rightly famous destination, don't be deterred by a queue - it does move quickly, and you are given menus while waiting. The breakfast selection was excellent, and special Christmas Coffee went down well (and avaliable to take beans home) . Only reason for not being 5 star, was that we had some difficulty getting attention to order and pay ( it was particularly busy) ; but once there they were very friendly and helpful.

L
Lauren G

Queued around 20 mins to get in. Queue combers bring menus and a few little tasters from the shop which was nice. We got in and were given a table right in the window with peoples bottoms for eyes on us at all times. Maybe some privacy screening might be an idea. We were quite uncomfortable but staff were unable to help. The food and drink was nice, no complaints about quality and the price isn’t too bad considering. Staff are professional but rushed off their feet. Can’t help feeling they have jammed as many tables in as physically possible and you’re really paying for the name of Betty’s. The prices in the shop were extortionate. Won’t be rushing back. The location js ideal though with parking nearby and lots to do locally.
