The Cut & Craft York

I was recommended to book this restaurant, I am so glad he did. It’s the first night out with my wife with no children for nearly 10 years lol. The restaurant looks stunning with very friendly staff. The food was amazing and the service was incredible. We started off with the Octopus ( the best I have ever had ) and for main course I ordered the sirloin steak, again perfectly cooked. I cannot wait to book again.

Amazing meal and drinks kart bought for my friends birthday. The food was unreal. So nice. We had some cocktails which were lovely too.

I went to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. The cocktails were delicious, the food was amazing and the service was quick and always with a smile. The waiter was happy to help once I told them it was boyfriends birthday and came out with the birthday desert for him.

What a restaurant.. just wow!! Me and my mrs are celebrating are anniversary and the manners of the waiters and waitresses here are incredible, great service, and the Cut and Craft Burger and flat iron steak were cooked to perfection!! Shout out to the gentleman in the suit who just made us feel welcomed as soon as me and my girlfriend stepped through the door!!! From stepping in to getting served and eating the food, I’d highly recommend this place! ❤️ ( they also gave us a free Prosecco to celebrate!!)

The food was fantastic all cooked as requested. From the burger bun being 'the best ever' to fantastic steaks. Mac and cheese got a high 5. Veg - coming back for more cabbage. Dauphoise potatoes in truffle oil - loved. Delicious desserts. Great choice of Melbec and strong coffee. Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. Lovely space, atmosphere, lighting. Service charge is optional and they are honest and up front about it - paid it worth every penny.

Giulia introduced herself and engaged with our aging table really well, she was a delightful young lady and a great ambassador for your restaurant. Though we waited over an hour for our main course to arrive, everyone was pleased with their meal, bar one, apparently 'the last fillet arrowhead' which was burnt and well done, ordered as medium rare - still tasty but not as ordered and disappointing! Didn't like to spoil the evening, so didn't mention it to Guilia......who again, worked hard to keep us engaged throughout our long wait for the mains!!!

We visited last night and was served by Zoltan. It said on his name badge he was a new trainee but if it wasn’t for that we would have had no idea that was the case. He was polite, friendly and knowledge about both the food and cocktails menus. He made us feel very welcome and have us great recommendations regarding drinks to complement our meals. He made our experience an enjoyable one and would visit again because of him

I have been here for the last 2 birthdays and thoroughly enjoyed it both times, the service is great and you are never waiting too long for anything, the food is even better especially the steak (medium rare) is perfect. The gesture of giving me a birthday card is lovely. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

We eat out a lot and this was simply one of the best meals we have ever eaten. The food was amazing, service excellent- no waiting around for a drink or getting someone's attention. The place is buzzy and lively. Great great meal

Me and my partner have been going here every year for our anniversary since we started dated. Every meal we have is hands down the nicest you’ll receive. We thought we’d try the Sunday sharing board and my god it didn’t disappoint at all! The food was incredible. I always tell people to come here if they’re visiting York for the day/weekend.

Hadn't planned ok visiting but glad we did. The food was amazing. Higher prices than your standard York restaurant but the food was top quality.

Great pre-theatre meal. Despite the early hour it was one of the busiest restaurants we passed, so booking advisable. Service was attentive. Lovely atmosphere. I had the fajitas which was a considerably larger portion than I’d anticipated! Beautifully presented. DH had the lamb which was delicious.

Visited York the other weekend and thought the cut and craft looked like a nice place to eat. It was absolutely stunning inside. I ordered a strawberry Mojito which was stunning and a chicken burger with chips which i ate every bit. It was quite expensive but looking around at the atmosphere you could see why. 🥰

Delicious sharing roast. We had the sharing plate all the meat was cooked perfectly. Booking is needed on a busy weekend.

A wonderful evening, celebrating our wedding anniversary, we was given a card to celebrate our special day. The Steak was cooked just right, and the asparagus was lovely the way it was cooked, and the gold bar dessert was amazing, finished off with a amareto coffee, hubbys fish and chips meal was very filling too, a truly wonderful evening, and looking forward to going back again, thank you to everyone who made it a lovely evening for us.

Wow, wow, wow! I honestly thought I’d had the best steak I’d ever had elsewhere, but this place beats it! The place is gorgeous. It’s a pleasure to eat surrounded by beautiful, modern decor. The service is excellent, the staff can’t do enough for you and they are extremely professional and polite. You can tell they have so much confidence that you’ll enjoy the food. We had two lots of garlic bread with cheese between four of us and that was more than adequate for us. For my main, I had the ribeye, bone marrow gravy and the potato tots - It melted in my mouth. It cost £30 just for the steak, then have to add the sauce which is about a fiver, then sides are from £5-£7. Had a bottle of the house red between two which is £26. A 10% service charge is added to every bill but the staff make you aware of it and offer to remove it if required. A must visit if in the area, and look forward to visiting the new Manchester one when it opens.

We visited whilst on a trip to York, the food and service was outstanding! We've never been to a restaurant where the staff were so friendly and attentive, from the second we walked in the door we were greeted by the loveliest lady, the waiters and waitresses were all amazing! The food was absolutely beautiful, we couldn't fault it at all! The chef had a slight issue with one of our desserts so we had a bit of a wait for it, which was absolutely fine and gave us some extra time to try some more of the delicious cocktails, and again, the staff were absolutely amazing and kept checking in on us and couldn't apologise enough! The dessert was definitely worth the wait too! We highly recommend the restaurant and we can't wait to visit again when we're back in York!

Incredible food and service! One of the best steaks I’ve ever had, the flavour was absolutely out of this world. Worth every penny. We also tried mussels, chicken fajitas and calamari, everything superb! The staff was amazing, super friendly and polite. Our waiter was so nice that when he heard us talking about this being our wedding anniversary meal we got a complimentary sorbet for dessert, which was just as incredible as the rest of the food. Very happy and would highly recommend!

A very special dining experience. The food is outstanding and the staff are exceptionally attentive and very pleasant. There is a lovely ambiance about the place. Do go!

Absolutely outstanding experience starting from food, drinks, service and decor! The signature fillet steaks are absolutely amazing and perfectly cooked! All sides were quite impressive too. Ohh and the drinks! They are another level! Staff is super friendly and attentive! Everything was just perfect and I’ll definitely be back for more!

Fabulous evening last week. We came as a large group and were split into 2 tables. The service was attentive and friendly! The food came together which was some feat, as we ordered different steaks cooked differently! The sea bass was delicious after I removed the bones!

Food was amazing. Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed it, however the steak was slightly chewy, but everything else that we ordered tasted amazing, especially the truffle fries (a must try!). Food came out quite fast and the place is nicely decorated. However, I’m not sure if it’s because they’re busy but the waitress was quite cold towards us, didn’t felt welcoming compared to the lovely lady at reception. A server was also sort of constantly staring at us which made me slightly uncomfortable but everything else was perfect :) . The surprise birthday desert was gorgeous. My boyfriend loved it! would absolutely return!

Beautifully presented food and cooked perfectly 👌 Pleasant welcoming staff, attentive and quick service. Lovely place, and enjoyed a birthday meal recently on a weekend trip travelling from Newcastle. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again, suppose it's only an hour train ride away. Be sure to book a table!!

Excellent service and a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had the Sunday lunch sharing meal, there was plenty of food and all was very good.. All the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. It was the second time we have been and I would recommend it. It is probably one of York’s best restaurants.

A beautiful meal with attentive service and excellent food! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My only feedback point would be the music in the background was a little loud so made conversation at times more challenging. However I would definitely return!!!

This was my first time coming here and cut and craft in general, it’s the most amazing food! hands down the best steak i’ve eaten, our waiter and server were absolutely lovely which is really refreshing, they made us feel warm and welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door!!! i would honestly recommend this place to anyone who just wants a good vibe and atmosphere and good food!!!

My wife and I dined here on the last night of our honeymoon in York. We chose Cut & Craft over another local steakhouse based off online reviews and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend making an online reservation because it gets very busy especially in the evenings. The atmosphere is brilliant. Everything it well organised and flows seamlessly, you are allocated a waiter and there are other staff concerned with running food when it is ready and bar staff for the drinks. There is an excellent selection of wines and I personally recommend the Beronia Rioja which compliments the steak really well. Our waiter was Stash, he was very attentive and provided excellent service. Our compliments to him and the other staff. Overall an outstanding dining experience, the food was great and the service tops everything off. Highly recommended if you’re in York.

Great restaurant, steaks absolutely delicious and service was perfect !! We came in 10 minutes before end of food service and still feel so warmly accommodated and checked on throughout. Special thanks to Giulia and all the team for making our one night in York so special! :)

You really can never go wrong with a flat iron streak from C&C, the steak tartar was super tasty too. If you can look past the fact the target audience is mainly Love Islanders, then it’s definitely worth going! The waiter was a little snappy and it felt a bit like he had better things to be doing. Bring back the curry mussels!!

Came here with a group of 6 work colleagues for dinner. Large very smart restaurant with a nice menu. We had the homemade bread basket to share for our starter which was really good. Really fresh warm bread (a few different types) with 2 different types of butter. For my main I got the beef burger. The taste of the meat was really good but it had a soft mincy texture (maybe should have been grilled a bit more?). Served in a really nice bun with plenty of cheese and a good sauce. The service was all very friendly and efficient. We had all eaten plenty with the bread and the mains so couldn't manage desserts. But it's unusual for me to find many desserts I would want in a restaurant and there was a few that sounded really good (and very different to other restaurants). I will be back for desserts next time I'm in York!

Overall, it was a bit of a mixed bag, though the steaks themselves salvaged the evening. ​We started with an appetiser that, unfortunately, was quite underwhelming. It lacked the "wow" factor we were expecting given the restaurant's reputation. However, things improved once the mains arrived. We had the ​Flat Iron Steak with buttered mash: This is their signature dish for a reason. It was cooked well and had good flavor. ​Sirloin Steak: My partner had the sirloin in medium rare which was also a solid choice. no complaints there, as both cuts were prepared correctly i just will not call it the best in town as we have tasted way better. ​If you are looking for an intimate, quiet dinner, this might not be the spot. The venue was completely packed, which made the atmosphere feel a bit hectic rather than cozy or romantic. It’s definitely a high-energy environment. ​On a positive note, our waitress was excellent. Despite how busy the restaurant was, she remained attentive and professional throughout our meal. ​Go for the steaks and the great service, but don't expect a quiet, intimate setting or standout starters. ​

Booked to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a great time. The booking process was quick and easy online. It was also easy to add that we were celebrating a birthday, which was remembered when we arrived too. The atmosphere was bustling but still ambient enough we could talk easily between us. Our service was friendly and fast. Our food and drink orders also arrived quickly. We had starters and mains. Both courses arrived in good time and were tasty. The steak was great, but the fish dish I had wasn't as good as I had hoped - possibly because I didn't like the sauce, rather than it being a bad dish. After we'd eaten, we got a complimentary ice cream and candle which was a nice birthday touch! Overall, a tasty meal with a good environment.

Stopped by on the off chance we could grab a table, restaurant looked great from the outside and inside also. Staff sorted us a table and helped us with getting our drinks order sorted. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially with our son. I had the french onion soup for starter which was tasty, I was saving myself for a steak dinner so had to begrudgingly choose a smaller starter. Our steaks weren't great, for me they had been frozen due to the cooked texture being flakey and lacking flavour for a ribeye. This was disappointing as for around £38 (from memory) for a steak with zero sides I'd expect it to be fresh. This being the main part of the meal does reduce my overall rating of this otherwise great restaurant. The sides we ordered were tasty, especially the charred cabbage. A special shout out for the wine menu, absolutely fantastic selection!! I would visit here again for the friendly atmosphere and good service.

Came here for a 30th birthday. We were given birthday card which was appreciated! The food was really tasty. We had to leave fairly quickly after finishing and ordered dessert. As we asked for the bill, they then bought out a scoop of ice cream for the birthday. It felt a bit forgotten as the other diners who had birthdays were given it in advance. It is obviously a very thoughtful gesture but felt a bit rushed and forgotten. Nice atmosphere and the candles they used were really good.

​Cut and Craft is an absolute must-visit in York. The atmosphere is vibrant and stylish, perfect for a special occasion or a great meal out. We were seated quickly, and the service throughout the evening was exceptional. ABI was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. ​The food itself was the real highlight. The concept of the flat iron steak at such an incredible price is brilliant, and the quality was top-notch.

Restaurant was very nice overall, friendly door staff and staff inside made to feel welcome. Orders were taken in good timing, and good care was given to my allergy. Unfortunately what was ordered as a starter only came with the main, which was slightly disappointing, but the sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and the salt to go with was perfect. Good selection of drinks menu. Would visit again if back in York.

Disappointed by Overcharging on Wine Flight – Check Your Bill Carefully We had a lovely meal and the food was very good. However, we encountered an issue with the billing that left us disappointed. My friend ordered a flight of wine, clearly priced at £16. When the bill arrived, the wine flight was listed at £16, but underneath, the three individual wines that made up the flight were also listed separately at £3 each — adding an additional £9, bringing the total to £25 for what should have been a £16 item. We double-checked the bill, hoping it was just a breakdown in their system and wouldn’t affect the final total — but it had indeed been added to the overall bill. We raised it with our waiter, who spoke to the manager, and they agreed to remove the £9, saying it was a “system error.” When leaving, we spoke with the manager again, who repeated that it was a fault in the system. However, it felt like they were hoping most customers wouldn’t notice. If they know this is a recurring issue, why hasn’t it been corrected? It gives the impression that they’re relying on people not checking the breakdown and just paying the overcharged total. This unfortunately left a sour note on what should have been a positive dining experience. If you're ordering a wine flight, please double-check your receipt.

Great looking place and efficient front of house staff. Sadly, waiting staff were slow, which is surprising as there is an optional 12.5% service charge added to your bill. Wine was very good and starters were good, but my truffle chicken kiev was really overcooked and had zero truffle in it. I'm not sure what the chef was trying to achieve with the deep fried cabbage leaf on it either. My wife had halibut but that was also overcooked and dry. Disappointing, especially for the price.

The server was really nice however when trying to work around my lactose intolerance, he would not let me make an alteration to the dish I wanted so that I could have it (remove the butter that comes on the side) and didn't let me order it. I thought this was very rude as I have experience with working around my intolerance and am aware of what has milk in it. The chips were very tasty but a very small portion considering this is all I had ordered for myself. If not working around a dietary restriction then I would recommend as my partners food was gorgeous.

First time trying the vegan Redefined steak, which was very tasty. Dessert was the choc Biscoff cone, which was ok. Service was way too slow for how many staff were working. Took best part of an hour to get any food.

Paid £60 for a Sunday lunch sharing platter. Very disappointed. Get very little for 2 people. Yorkshire puddings were cold. It arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. Had to ask twice for water and twice for gravy. Only little things but make a difference. The place was packed and very loud.

We have been regular customers at Cut & Craft for quite some time, and until now the food and service have always been amazing. It has genuinely been one of our favourite places to eat, which makes writing this review even more disappointing. Unfortunately, our visit today was very disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, we were seated in a tiny corner on a very small table, despite the restaurant being half empty. It didn’t feel welcoming or comfortable at all. To make matters worse, where we were seated, a waitress needed to access a wine shelf directly above our heads. She was clearly struggling to open it, leaning over us while we were sitting there, which felt very uncomfortable and awkward. Thankfully we were already waiting for the bill at that point — I can’t imagine how unpleasant it would have been if that had happened while we were eating. The service overall was extremely slow, even though there were only around five tables being served. Staff were standing around talking while we were waiting a long time just to be served and then even longer for our food to arrive. We understand that prices have increased, and that’s completely fine if the food quality remains high. However, our steaks arrived cold. Thankfully we had gravy, which helped warm them slightly. I ordered my steak medium but it arrived rare and was quite chewy. We left feeling very sad and disappointed, especially because this has always been our go-to restaurant. Sadly, after this experience, we won’t be returning for a while. 😕

Food was ok. Husband’s steak served cold and more rare than he asked for. Daughter’s fillet not hot but cooked as requested. My chicken dish was hot but was dry and lacked flavor. They charge extra for most things like sauce and sides. The service was just ok. Atmosphere was fine. The ok to moderate food and service is fine. The 2-3 rating stars were given because we paid five star prices. The food for what you get is way overpriced. That was annoying. All the other restaurants in York that we ate at had great prices and very tasty food. We found this restaurant the most disappointing in York. It’s a shame because we were on holiday and rarely treat ourselves to a nice steak meal. Our recommendation is to lower your prices to match your food and experience. Then, you’d get a better reputation- seems like recent reviews on Google agree with our review. Fortunately, the other dining experiences in York made up for our pleasant holiday.

Good staff and nice decor etc. disappointing food though with my wife’s cod served cold, when we sent it back it came raw. The manager dealt with the situation but ultimately you come out for a meal and not to go home hungry. Just (reportedly) spent £750k on a refit, we’ve been before and I would not have known if I’m honest. Disappointing!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Phoned and reserved a table for 2 at the York branch, for my wife birthday, requested for a birthday cake/cheesecake to be provided during the phonecall for which I had confirmed I was happy to pay for, upon arrival again confirmed all as requested. In the end did not provide what had been requested. When asked to clarify what had gone wrong the manager “Dumitrina” very arrogantly argued had service not been provided? Avoiding the request/question that had been made originally. Ruined a birthday would not ever be returning, do not recommend for any special occasions. This is being raised further in the meanwhile as the manager was not able to even provide customer service. I requested if phone calls for reservations were recorded as a request was made then and on arrival, to which we had no clear answer once again. This shall be reported further and not dropped, instead handed a £166 bill for 2 people instead without any sympathy for what had been caused. Absolutely POOR! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

Frustratingly disappointing. Short version, in case you don't want to read all this: Tasted bland. Hard to cut, harder to chew. Not worth the price tag. My father and I came here for my birthday. We didn't make a reservation, simply walked in because we were passing the street and spotted the restaurant. They had space for us, and the restaurant is nicely decorated, but the music felt out-of-place for a restaurant like this (Nit-picky, I know, but it made the place feel boring). The staff seemed annoyed (There was actually one very nice waiter, our main waiter, but all others, and the hostess, seemed irritated we were there) and I'm sure it was because the restaurant was fairly busy, but still. My father chose a burger, and I chose a Fillet steak (cooked medium). I haven't had many steaks, only a couple sirloins, but this was just... bad. My dad's burger was good, and the fries that came with our meals were good, but my steak was incredibly tough. I'm happy to work through a tough steak, but there was absolutely no flavour to my steak either. I ordered a blue cheese sauce, to go with my fries, and I had to order a second pot of it - because spreading it over the steak was the only way it was tasty and I didn't want to waste the meat. Chewing this steak (Genuinely, the toughest steak I've ever eaten) was an effort, and my jaw was hurting, so I only ate about half of it. Cutting the steak was also an issue, because the steak knife provided was incredibly blunt. A blunt steak knife, in a steak restaurant, feels like a huge oversight to me. I asked a waiter for a different knife. The new knife was also quite blunt, but less so than the first, and I didn't want to bother another waiter, so I dealt with it. It was also incredibly loud. All busy restaurants are going to be loud, but the sound in here echoed due to the open design. Both my father and I have some trouble hearing, so it became very frustrating. This was fairly early for dinner (When we first arrived) so I imagine the shouting could get worse. For a restaurant this expensive, and for an occasion like a birthday, this was very disappointing.
