Another amazing meal at Bavette in Horsforth! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the whole team made us feel completely at home. A special mention has to go to Joe, our waiter, who was absolutely fantastic. He always delivers such a personal touch — attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what he does. It really elevates the whole experience. The food was exquisite — so tasty, rich, and full of flavour. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully balanced. The champagne was exceptional and paired perfectly with the meal. Outstanding quality and great value for such an incredible dining experience. We’ll definitely be back again soon!
I’m disappointed in myself that it has taken me so long to write a review for Bavette as after the first visit we’ve not stopped recommending this place to almost everyone we know. It’s a lovely traditional bistro style interior, and a bit bigger on the inside than it looks from the pavement. Lovely setting for a romantic meal or special occasion. We had been gifted a voucher for Christmas so we over indulged but I am so glad we did because everything we had, was one of the best versions of each thing we’d ever eaten. In particular, the seafood bisque I had was probably one of the most delicious things I’ve experienced, it was just so wonderfully deep and rich in flavour and I could have happily had that, or two or three bowls of it, as my main course. I had lamb for my main which was almost marshmallowy tender and truly something special. The Boulangere potatoes were beautiful, melting and savoury and rich. We managed to squeeze in a crème brûlée to finish which had a tooth-shatteringly thick layer of sugar on top and the most divine and smooth custard underneath. Would happily order everything off the menu, which changes with the seasons. Perhaps I need to train my stomach to fit more in. Absolutely you must go, don’t delay.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Bavette is the best place to eat in Leeds! Have visited here 3 times in the past 12 months, and every time it has been the best dining experience I’ve had in Leeds. Chef and owner Sandy in the kitchen really knows authentic French cooking, the fruits of his labour have truly been placed onto the plate that you are able to indulgently enjoy. Clément’s hospitality and knowledge of the menu and wine list is exceptional, with him being from France, his knowledge of the wines he’s serving is personable and approachable. Vilija and the waiting team are incredibly personable and pleasant, you couldn’t ask for a better team to work at an independent restaurant. Honestly, Bavette is the best place that you can dine at in Leeds. Their press, reviews and recommendations are completely justified. Thank you team for a wonderful evening once again. ❤️
Belatedly writing about a lunch I enjoyed before Christmas - but everything (and everyone) were so lovely that I decided it's never to late to spread good news! I was meeting an long standing friend for a catch up so we arrived early and sat at the wee bar and enjoyed excellent martinis to kick off with. Once at the table we ordered some things to nibble as we decided. Parfait and tartare were both excellent - generous, beautiful and totally delicious. Similarly the mains were spot on - hearty and bursting with well focused flavours. We enjoyed champagne and a couple of bottles of white from a well curated list full of interesting things to drink. Best of all was truly excellent service - friendly, well informed, never pushy , but always there when you needed them! Can't recommend this place enough - a wonderful lunch with an outstanding professional team both back and front of house. All power to them.
Somehow it gets better each time we visit! The staff are so lovely and welcoming, very knowledgeable on the menu and wines, giving recommendations on what to pair with your food. We had the Christmas set menu and didn’t leave any of it! Cheese croquettes never disappoint. Melted perfectly, still just enough structure so it’s not all over the plate. The French onion soup was deep in flavour and deliciously sweet. My partner had the fish soup which she said was the best soup she’s ever had. Chef Sam told us how much work goes into it and it definitely shows. Can’t say enough about the main. Sirloin cooked to perfection and paired with the jus was lovely. Dauphinoise potatoes were rich and creamy still holding structure even when the layers are paper thin. Braised red cabbage never ever disappoints and I would eat at your restaurant just for this alone! Chocolate sabayon rich and gooey which just coated your mouth. Perfect way to end the meal. Please keep doing what you’re doing, love it every time! Cameron and Katie x
It’s as easy as that, It’s Five stars Bread that speaks to you when you rip it and whispers in your ear soft words, Butter so vibrant green & herby that it’s now an official Dulux wall chart colour. A wobbly soufflé that was graced by the Hand of Jesus himself, Beefy flavour bavette steak with a slight chew which we all now like and accept about the bavette as a steak as it’s new big bold character Sticky Jus, the kind that makes your lips pout and kiss the air through it’s richness and depth Chips that quite frankly Pierre Koffman would be scared of. Outstanding chips! Good quality potatoes, clean veg oil and a touch of salt. Crispy and fluffy. Not too chunky not too skinny, class Cabbage side order tasted creamed even though it wasn’t and was sautéed at high heat. Almost gave a crunch like a Chinese seaweed but was buttery and creamy in its delivery. Beautifully seasoned. Tarte Tatin was outstanding. The idea of serving chilled calvados infused double cream instead of an ice cream was class It was like the secret pastry love child of a full flavoured ice cream but with the viscosity of a beautiful Creme Anglaise Will I go again? If I can get a table 😀 Absolute first class delivery of service, product knowledge, delivery, taste, value for money, attentive but discreet, and speedy 4 courses in 91 minutes 💨 And not a single part of it felt rushed That’s pure magic x
Amazing trip to Bavette, food was brilliant, service was great and the cocktails and wine were lovely. Will definitely return! Tartare was perfect and the bouillabaisse was delicious. A moment for the mayo that came with the chips too! Beef Tartare, Steak Scallop, Bouillabaisse, Poached Pear
Hands down the best restaurant I've been to in Leeds. The atmosphere was lively, cosy and classy - it had a fine dining feeling while maintaining a relaxed vibe. Staff were charming and the food was absolutely delicious. Forgot to take a picture of the crème brulée but it insanely good. Already desperate to go back
Perfect from start to finish - cannot wait to be back! The whole experience was very thoughtfully done. The menu was super interesting and tasty - every detail thought out. Everything was aesthetically beautiful - from the dishes to the drinks to the interior. As a very visual person, that kind of attention to detail adds a lot to my overall experience. The owner kindly talked us through the menu, which was very helpful. Some of the French elements (and dish names) were new to us, so getting a feel for each dish beforehand meant we could choose really well (and not miss out on the stars of the show). My partner and I are big foodies and love to chat through each dish as we go - the flavours, textures, the whole experience - we had plenty to talk about (in the best possible way). There were dishes we hadn’t tried in this way before and it made the meal all the more exciting. For mains we ordered the fish and the steak, both were fantastic. It was a difficult choice as we were so lured in by the duck, but we decided to keep that in the back pocket for our next visit. We had A LOT of food and left feeling full and content, but not so heavy that we needed to roll home (which usually happens to us!) - perfectly balanced. I prefer to try lots of bits and still feel good at the end of the meal. Oh and the wine! The chilled red we had was one of the best I've ever had - yummy cherry, light with a little fizz - very interesting and unique mix of flavours 😍 Service 10/10, if I could give the restaurant more stars, I really would, we will be back for the duck soon
We went for Sunday lunch as a group of five, and it was every bit as good as I remembered. This was my second visit, and I couldn’t resist ordering the Comté croquettes again as they’re fantastic. Paired with the bread and butter, they make the perfect start before moving on to mains. The wine list is really well put together, and you can tell some thought has gone into it. I went for the bouillabaisse instead of the traditional roast, and it was excellent — full of flavour and beautifully done. We finished with crème brûlées, which were a lovely way to end the meal. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food, and the service was just as good — warm, friendly, and attentive without being over the top. It’s such a welcoming place, and we’re already looking forward to going back.
Four of us dined here for Sunday lunch. I had exchanged emails with Clément in advance to ensure there was a vegetarian option for every course. I wasn’t expecting much as French food is more focused on meat and fish but my food didn’t disappoint! The squash and leek gratin was simply delicious - my meat-eating friends all tried it and loved it. A generous plate of garlicky, buttered space was the perfect accompaniment. My starter of Canut de Cervelle was fresh, herby and tart and the Prune and Armagnac ice-cream rounded off a wonderful meal. Our waitress (sorry, I didn’t catch your name!) was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. I can’t wait to come back again.
I've been to bavette a bunch of times now and they are a class act. The food is 10/10 of course. The wine, delicious, but what I think really sets them apart is the service. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and make you feel right at home. You can tell they care about their craft. I will be back soon!
Been to Bavette several times now. This place makes you feel better from the moment you walk in, good atmosphere, chilled environment, food prepared with love, changing menus, and both owners are in almost always making sure the food & the service are up to standards. Love Clement & Sandy and truly appreciate bringing this passion to Leeds!
A wonderfully relaxed meal, presented by our waiter Lars, who took the time to explain the short but sweet menu. The waiting staff we attentive yet respectful. The food was an outstanding display of what seasonal menu can be in West Yorkshire. Each course presented something unique yet exceptional. We can't wait to return to try again!
Second visit, as good if not better then first. Food, service, menu selection and wine list are all top class. Highly recommend Bavette if you can get a table. We opted for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. All the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and well informed. Clement was fantastic on front of house. Our food was stunning.
Yes the food IS incredible, and complimented so well by the incredible service. Warm and welcoming on arrival and throughout, but also discreet and not interrupting throughout the evening. Atmosphere was cosy and a great vibe. I also really loved the fun red curtain curtain 🩷
Absolutely tremendous. A genuine 10/10 meal. The cheese croquettes incredible. The sirloin roast also unbelievable! And the Paris Brest was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Can't believe I've left it so long to try it! Outstanding 👏🏽
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Bavette and wow… what a night! Started with cervelle de canut + crudités, crostini & walnut oil – fresh and delicious. The monkfish was absolute perfection, but the Basque cheesecake… pure heaven 🤍🍷 Incredible wine and the friendliest staff made it unforgettable. The perfect place for a special occasion!
We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch at Bavette. The team behind this restaurant have successfully recreated a gorgeous French bistro atmosphere here in Leeds, and the effort put into the food, drinks, service and experience can truly be felt at all times. Our server was warm and attentive, without being at all overbearing. The food was fresh, delicious, and perfectly tailored to the season. And it’s dog friendly! Well done Bavette team - we’ll definitely be back soon!
The best meal we've had in a long time, everything we ate was delicious - and the feel of the restaurant is incredibly well thought through - homely and welcoming whilst showcasing the food and drink. The front of house staff were all fantastic, personable and helpful. There was also a great alcohol free selection of drinks which you don't often see. Perfect for those not drinking. We will definitely be back.
Simply outstanding!! I do not usually leave reviews but I was pleasantly surprised by this bistro. The duck roast was the best Sunday roast I’ve had. The food was so flavorful and just made me happy. I am so so impressed. The service was great- incredibly friendly and prompt. The restaurant- very chic, unpretentious and relaxing. I cannot believe I’ve waited so long to try it and it’s just down the road from me. Incredible!! You will not be disappointed. Bavette is a winner in my books! 10/10!
We’ve been to Bavette three times now and it genuinely just gets better every time! This venue has been home to a steady churn of businesses over the years and it’s lovely that it’s now home to one that will definitely stick! I have no doubt that Bavette will be here for years, and it’s all down to the beautiful environment, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food the team have created. Their Bib Gourmand is thoroughly deserved! We feel very lucky to have Bavette on our doorstep and will keep coming back again and again.
We’ve been dying to come to Bavette since it opened on the Horsforth high street and it did not disappoint! We had the baguette and herb butter, croquettes and deep fried pigs head to start. The herb butter was unique and delicious, and paired really well with the fresh baguette which came out warm! The croquettes may be one of the nicest things I’ve eaten - ever! Crunchy on the outside, but gooey on the inside and the cheese melted in your mouth. Amazing! We tried the deep fried pigs head purely for the novelty factor but we really enjoyed that dish too. For mains I had the Bavette and my partner had the cassoulet, both of which we really enjoyed. The sides were prepared well with the chips being a stand out side dish! We shared the Paris Brest for dessert as we almost couldn’t move after all the food, which was a great choice as it was really light and airy and the chocolate mousse was delicious. The decor and atmosphere is great inside, we really felt like we’d been transported to France especially with the lovely music. The staff were extremely attentive, although we were the first people in there so it wasn’t very busy, I have a feeling the quality of the service wouldn’t falter even at its busiest. All in all a great addition to the Horsforth high street, we felt like we had a really special night and are looking forward to coming back. We can’t wait to see what the Bavette team do next 😊
Wow wow wow! An incredible dining experience at Bavette. Delicious food, great wines and cocktails and excellent service. Bavette is a french style bistro with a fun, casual atmosphere. The service was on point from start to finish. Everything felt very relaxed but staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Honestly, there wasn't a bad dish. But the standout dishes - the comte croquettes, panisse with anchovy and saffron aioli, oeufs en meurette, the bavette steak with fries and the saddle of lamb. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. Highly recommend!
Lived up to the very high expectations. Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and were very careful and attentive about allergies- spending time discussing each dish with a guest with a wheat allergy. The food was extremely rich, flavourful with top quality ingredients. Worth every penny and will definitely be returning.
This was our first meal at Bavette and our food and drinks were all delicious. They also had a great selection of non-alcohol drink options and cocktails which was handy as my partner was driving. The restaurant had a welcoming, friendly and relaxed atmosphere (and was almost full on the Wednesday evening that we visited). The service was excellent. Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions. We will definitely be back again soon 🙌🏻😍
Amazing. Id heard a lot before we went about how good it was and it did not disappoint. Amazing service, so friendly and went above and beyond with giving us one of the snacks because our table was delayed. Which we had not even really noticed as we were happily choosing which wine to order. The food was so so good and some really nice wine, the only thing we did wrong was too much savoury meaning no room for desert but I will 100% be going back and will save room for creme bulee. I highly recommend and the hype does not disappoint. Great little restaurant
Absolutely amazing bistro. The quality of the dishes was incredible. You can tell a lot of time and effort has gone into curating both the food and drinks menu. The mains were especially good. The service was some of the best I have experienced in Leeds. Sophia was very attentive and helpful. It really added to the overall quality of the experience. Absolutely perfect for a date night!
Our first visit to Bavette. The food was amazing, the service first class and a delightful ambience.
Our first time dining at Bavette, wow! Fantastic food, lovely relaxing atmosphere and such friendly and helpful staff. We had an amazing experience and will definitely be returning.
Excellent food.... Classic French dishes cooked with care. Decent portion sizes, an interesting wine list, friendly service with a few laughs, and a great atmosphere.
Such a wonderful Saturday evening dining at Bavette! 😁Thank you ever so much for kindly fitting us in! We were most impressed! The owner warmly greeted us and took us to our candlelit table and despite the restaurant being fully booked which is always a fantastic sign, he kindly took his time to share his story and passion for the restaurant with us. There was a really good atmosphere, excellent attentive and genuinely caring staff and a fantastic choice of food on the menu - I tried my first ever Bavette steak and loved the flavour combinations, fennel and basil I think it was! The lamb was also divine and the presentation of all the courses was impeccable. It is such a treat to have this restaurant in Horsforth! We highly recommend both locals and those further afar to certainly come and dine and support this delicious independent French delight! Many, many thanks for such a wonderful evening!
Fantastic little neighborhood French bistro. Every dish was super tasty and well presented. The staff were all super welcoming, friendly and helpful and they had an exceptional selection of wines.
We had one of the most memorable and exceptional dining experiences here on Friday evening for our wedding anniversary. We received a thoroughly warm welcome, in the gorgeously chic yet cosy space, exceptional service throughout, and incredible food. We shared the croquettes, shellfish bisque, and house baguette with butter, followed by the Cote de Boeuf with sides, and to finish, the chocolate sabayon and a Paris-Brest. All beautifully accompanied by one of the Bavette natural wines. Honestly, faultless. The atmosphere was buzzing and vibrant without being overpowering, the music was excellent, and the service was just the icing on the cake - knowledgeable, warm, chatty, a real sense of customer focus and a genuine care that we had an enjoyable time. It was also wonderful to see such a mixed demographic of clientele and this made us feel that this is truly a neighbourhood bistro. Everyone is welcome. Exceptional food - Exceptional service - Exceptional and standout addition to Yorkshire and (luckily for us) our local area. 11/10 can’t wait to return ❤️
Four of us had an absolutely brilliant lunch here. Delicious food from start to finish - that shellfish bisque and the onion tart are not to be missed! And the pâté en croute with Earl Grey jelly - amazing! Perfectly cooked cod, spot on steak and chips, and sensational puds to finish. There's already a really relaxed and convivial atmosphere with great service throughout. Can't believe it was only their first week open and can't wait to go back!
I had heard a great many things about Bavette, which had put it on a pedestal of high expectations - not always a good thing! Happy to report that the experience was every bit as good as all those people had told me it would be. We received a warm welcome from Clément, and were seated on schedule. I’ve seen the evolution of this space from The Outiside In days, and after pizza express ruined it, Bavette have done a great job with opening the space back up. I ate the comte croquettes, steak tartare, Bavette steak and crème brûlée. The food was all prepared and seasoned perfectly, the flavours were nothing short of exceptional. I very rarely enjoy food as much as this. It was a real treat. The house merlot was a lovely accompaniment to the meal. Thank you to everyone at Bavette making the experience so special. (Forgive the poor photos, I was more interested in eating the food than snapping photos of it)
Probably already my favourite restaurant in Leeds. From the moment you walk in, service is friendly and welcoming. I had a martini to start - it was excellent! Food on our table was universally loved. Everything is made with a few, simple ingredients cooked to absolute perfection. I had the mackerel followed by plaice. I cannot wait to book again.
The food was really delicious, there is a great attention to detail in this restaurant and the staff (particularly the chef!) are striving for perfection. Unpopular opinion - but this was better than a lot of restaurants in France! The steak tartare is a must.
What a lovely bistro, with attentive staff, where you can scoff exciting and differently delicious food.
**EDIT** Back again for Bastille day, a 5 course set menu with free glass of fizz if you dressed French. The food and service was first class as always! The set menus was an amazing and just kept coming at a steady pace and was the perfect amount as not get too full too quickly! All food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Service was first class as always! _______________________________________________________________ Visited Bavette for the first time last night and it did not disappoint. We had a lovely warm welcome form the staff, were shown to a lovely cosy booth for our party of 6. We started off with some snacks, the cheese crockets are lovely. For mains, 3 of our party had the Cote de Boeuf which looked absolutely amazing! I had the Monk fish, it was divine and the wild garlic sauce is to die for. Will definitely be returning
Stunning as always! Goats cheese soufflé was especially delicious. Will definitely be back soon😍
I can't even knock off a single star, it's simply a perfect little French restaurant and not to he missed. Still need to try their french onion soup, maybe next time?
Outstanding food and service. All the food was perfectly seasoned and balanced and the drinks were faultless. Incredibly well judged menu — you wanted to order everything. The steak tartare and the yoghurt ice cream were particularly good. We went for my brother’s birthday (and bought our dog) and were so looked after. Will definitely be back!
Sandy, Clément and the team at Bavette really know how to host. Exceptional food and an all round amazing experience. There is a reason why you can find them in the Michelin guide and several articles online about their food. I will definitely be back. 5 stars, well deserved. Thank you.
While the food was delicious and technically well-executed, there were moments aesthetic seemed to come at the expense of flavors. Croquette were simple and delicious. The Chicken parfait was beautiful to look at, the combination of parfait, brioche and chutney puree allowed the sweeter notes to dominate The Tartare was good, come already seasoned (Except the egg yoke) however, because it's a smaller starter, a whole egg yolk made the consistency too wet while I understand the yoke is visually appealing a fully seasoned tartare should be able to hold. The feuilletes au moules was delicious. The Bavette was really good, it was cooked to the perfection. I like the fact that they don't ask for how I wanted it cooked however I was expected a French peppercorn sauce with cream and cognac, it felt more like really good Jus/gravy with fresh peppercorn added to it. Service was good and fast, they explained the menu really well. My girlfriend loved the food and had a great time. I would definitely recommend this place and will try it again in the future.
This is the second time we have been to Bavette. We were a little disappointed the first time, so we decided to come back thinking we might have come on a bad day (tough steak and overcooked chips) given how good reviews have been. Whilst we were a little more impressed this time, we were still a little underwhelmed and think a 4/5 rating is justified by the food quality/price/service/atmosphere. We won't rush back, but will happily come for a nice meal out in Horsforth again when the time suits.
I was expecting a lot more to be honest. Chicken Liver Pate was decent and my wife's scallop was too. The lamb Pithivier was great, but the bavette steak was underwhelming, a bit tough and under seasoned. Deserts wete both good. All in all I'm not sure what the fuss is about food wise and found it expensive and pretty average. Service was good.
Just ok… We went for lunch and had waiting quite a few weeks to get a reservation. Menu is not extensive, which is fine - however we would expect the dishes to be outstanding due to number of items on menu. We had: croquettes, baguette and egg as starters to share. Croquettes tasty, egg tasted like bland egg mayonnaise and the butter on the baguette was an acquired taste. My partner had steak and I had french onion soup. My partner said the steak wasn’t anything outstanding. The French onion soup was inedible. I love French onion soup, this was heavy and the consistency of thick gravy. All you could taste was a heavy meat stock which overpowered all other ingredients. It was so dense that it didn’t sit well. We spent £100 for lunch with no alcohol. We expected so much more
