Excellent staff, very cool menu, and of course the best wines in San Luis Obispo County. A nice change of atmosphere on the Embarcadero. Thankfully, no taffy or chowder here.
CHOCOLATE TO DIE FOR! We stopped in to hang out one evening and ordered two glasses of red with the chocolate plate. OMG delicious hand packed dark chocolates that were perfect with wine. We made sure that they were at room temperature after the first one though as room temp chocolates are scrumptious with red wine. In fact, we had to order more RED. Highly recommend you try this chocolate plate...and let me know if and when they start selling them!
Just a great dining experience! The food (the halibut was the best I have had):the service and the laid back atmosphere was perfect.
Always enjoy the wine selections here. Wines from around the world and usually one or two surprise under the radar local ones. Food never disappoints either. Love the shareables menu! Those pomme frites and the brussel sprouts!
Really nice bar on the "strip" of Morro Bay. We went wine tasting there and our host was amazing. Wine was great..raw oysters were great..so many plaves to try it morro bay cant tell you this is the best but we had a good time.
An amazing experience! Great wines, the host Scott is simply one of a kind, the best host in town. STAX is definitely a place to stop by as you drive on Route 1.
We came in while on a short vacation, and did the wine tasting and had a cheese plate. We ended up buying 2 bottles of wine and 2 wine glasses. It was chill and relaxing and we felt well taken care of!
Wow, the brussel sprouts are amazing! Best I've had anywhere. The aioli that came with it was clearly homemade.. But the Brussels are so good it doesn't even need it. Ate it before I could take a photo! Oops.
Great place, comfortable ambiance, attractive decor, some outdoor seating. Amazing food and great selection of wine. We go often.
Love the vibes here! The lettuce wraps are my new favorite! The pizza and tacos are fabulous!!! The staff is always accommodating and attentive!
This is a great place to watch a Morro Bay sunset. Knowledgeable staff. They offer all wines and their small plates are really good. Sometimes there is music.
Locally owned and family run by Giovanni's fish and chips resturant next door (which is packed all day long) this wine/beer bars primetime location is epic for being right on the waterfront walking distance to Morro Rock, downtown on the Embarcadero and all the hotels up above ! Surf Shop across the street with an excellent Bakery too! True Local arts patron who feature visual artists on the wall & live music venue. Dont miss 'UNCORK THE MIC' with Michelle Morrow where local & international musicians are featured along with you! 6-9pm every wednesday.....fyi
Very nice place to chill and relax by the beach and have great tasting wine!! Highly recommended! Had the Hard Kombucha, crisp and bubbly. Very delicious!
Great atmosphere, exceptional service, and remarkable wine. For a class act on the Embarcadero, look no further. This place rings all the bells. The only drawback is the limited business days it is open but well worth it if you can catch it when it is.
The Wine Selection Was Great And The Crab Cakes Were VERY GOOD. The Service Was Very Nice And Friendly.
My wife and I had an amazing experience here for a Saturday afternoon date without the kiddos. We were fortunate enough to meet Chef Kari when she came out to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We had a couple appetizers and shared some delicious small plates. Phenomenal wine selection. We can't wait to go back!
Had an awesome time at Stax on Boat parade night! All the staff was on spot. I ordered a filet along with the Caprese salad and my frind had the Ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. 100% I would recommend Stax if you are visiting Morro Bay.
Planning a wedding reception is challenging at times Stax Wine Bar & Bistro not only has a beautiful view of Morro Bay but they were over the top with my wedding reception the appetizers the main dish was exquisite there's so many different drinks to choose from for your pleasure. The atmosphere is very relaxing the music was wonderful.I couldn't have asked for better service everything was taken care of and there was no stress my guests had a wonderful time it was a great celebration of the best day of my life my wedding thank you Giovanni and staff for extending your gratitude and over the top service on my big day. This restaurant will be a tradition in my family when we are visiting the coast.
I was in town on business (from Arkansas). I got there a little late and the crowd was light. The bartender and another customer chatted with me the whole time and made me feel very welcome and at home. Tried a few different wines. I had a great time. Not many places I visited in California were as nice and friendly.
We were in Morro Bay last week & decided to stop in. It was fabulous!!! Friendly & helpful staff. Conner helped us choose a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir. The food was wonderful! The place is very nice & extremely clean. Conner was an exceptional server. Next time we are back in the area we will be sure to go there!!
Cozy, clean, and relaxing place on the embarcadero. Outstanding selection of wines and some good beers for those who don't drink wine. Food menu has a wide variety with something for everyone's taste. Great happy hour specials from 3 to 6 pm. This will definitely be a must stop place when we come to Morro Bay from now on.
We just had the best afternoon at STAX. The food was really good and the staff was attentive & friendly. Really like a neighborhood bar. Their wine selection is fantastic and the staff is really knowledgeable about the wines.
Fantastic wine bar. They had a great Spanish wine tasting last night with an excellently paired snacks. The tasting included 6 varietals for $12. Add another $8 for the food pairing. The drinks included a cava, excellent whites and a red finishing up with a nice Grenache and temperanillo. Service was great. Also on top of the great wine and food, they had an excellent Spanish guitarist. Made for a fabulous evening.
if you're looking for a relaxing experience drinking some wine and having some light food fair, then this is the place for you. they serve wine and beer only, so no soda or ice tea or what not. menu is limited but pretty darn good. the view is nice too. it's a great place to unwind after going out the whole day.
This place was awesome!! Great atmosphere, food and staff. They were very friendly. We sat outside. They welcome dogs 🐕 and had water bowls out. The food was sooo fresh. All three of us had different dishes. They were all very fresh and delicious. Very relaxing atmosphere. Very clean. Highly recommend 👌
Large wine selection close to the water with very attentive staff and an incredibly delectable (albeit small) menu of foods that are flavor powerhouses. I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate mousse
Stax is a Morro Bay gem! The staff is very friendly and make you feel welcome. Such a great atmosphere right near the beach. If you come here I recommend you try the ultimate crostini or the carnitas tacos ( or both! ) . They have a great wine selection and some good IPA's on tap. Stop here and you won't regret it! My wife and I visit Morro bay often and this is always our first stop.
We visited STAX Wine Bar for the first time last weekend to see a friend play live music. We were surprised how delicious the food was, and the prices were very reasonable. But first, I must mention, since it It is a wine bar after all, that we enjoyed the wine flight of local wine. It was only $10 for 5 tastes, and we took advantage of the Yelp check-in special: 2 for 1 tasting with the purchase of food. Each person in your party can have a free tasting as long as at least 1 food item per person is purchased (not a difficult thing to do since you will want to try at least several of their food selections). We enjoyed everything we ordered: ultra fresh "Grassy Bar" oysters right out of Morro Bay, "The Ultimate" crostini (black truffle seasoned filet mignon, grilled Portobello mushroom, St. Agur Bleu cheese, arugula, homemade basil pistou atop a crunchy crostini), and mushroom toast. Check out the rest of the menu details online and your mouth will begin watering; you will not be disappointed by the real thing! As far as the music is concerned the place has a very convivial atmosphere, but it is a bit noisy plus the acoustics aren't the best for music. The live music is great for adding to the ambiance of the scene, but definitely don't go for a serious music experience. DO, however, go for a relaxed, friendly environment, great food & wine, and in the daytime I believe there is a view...yes, the stacks, but that is Morro Bay. I'm glad we finally visited STAX. Don't be fooled by its location on the Embarcadero that it's an overpriced tourist trap, because that it is not. It's a great place for tourists and locals alike.
Nice atmosphere and enjoyable dining. The pork sliders were delicious. After looking over the menu, we’ll be back to taste more!!
This place is excellent! We had the ultimate crostini, Brussels sprout (We had to get a second order because they are SO good), caprese, Pomme frites, mushroom flatbread! They were all SO good! Highly recommend if you are in the area!
Lovely spot in Morro Bay! Came on a busy holiday weekend. Other places had a line; we were seated immediately. Laid back vibe. Our server Selena was attentive. Baked mac n cheese was killer, along with the brussels and filet mignon fajita tacos.
Wonderful place, excellent food, great selection of wine. Ask for the non menu steak options. They are delicious.
Sitting nice and quietly off to the side, watching people and cars go by while enjoying some of the best food I have had in my life at some of the best prices. That chocolate mousse especially is to die for. The service from Malia was great as well, she was on the ball and incredibly kind and fun.
Great service! Perfect location. The crab cakes. Yes, amaze
Great food, great wine, great service, and great views!!!! Can I give more stars??? The owners there are AMAZING, the staff was friendly, and the chef is truly an artist. Seriously, we ordered every dessert they made. No shame. Morro Bay needed an awesome date spot and this is it! I even brought my new puppy to the patio :) thanks for giving us an awesome dining experience even while distancing!! (Also Stax, if you're reading this, please NEVER change your fries, they are SO GOOD!)
It’s like you have found a secret door and it leads you to the best BBQ fish you have ever had. We walked in not expecting much, asked what fish might be served and the server rattled off fish that wasn’t on the menu. Perfectly barbecued fish was brought out to us and we kept looking at each other like, what kind of heaven did we stumble upon? Dudes. This place is so good. I felt like there was a steady local crowd, we went both nights we were in town. The manager/owner came over and I asked for the secret. He said fresh fish brought in locally and their hot grill. Not to mention the secret sauce. It blew our minds and to top it off, it’s priced like it’s 1999.
Hands down the best food in Morro Bay. Okay, okay, hear me out! Wine Bar right, think again. These guys take elegance and food to a whole new level of experience and expectation. Not your average charcuterie and wine pairing type of place. Looking for deep fried garbage they offer at every restaurant in Morro Bay, this is not your place. Amazing food, staff, atmosphere with a little bit of something for everyone. Skeptical at first we tried their Chilli Cheese dog and paired that with their Baloney sandwich. Why stop there, right? We then decided on the Ultimate Crustini’s and two bottles of Emmolo Merlot. Atmosphere!! We chose outside and boy were we glad. The characters you see in this small town not to mention (Location, Location)!! Seeing people navigate the 4 way stop and the Hill in front of their establishment was the ultimate added bonus. They have fire pillars for the cold weather and the front is in a protected area with umbrellas for added protection from the sun. Staff! Everyone who works there loves their job and you can tell by the service they give and the smiles on everyone’s face. They genuinely care about their customers and their dinning experience within their establishment. If you’re looking for something more elevated, we came back to dinner that evening and hand picked our own Fillet Mignon and Ahi Tuna. The portions were big enough for two or three people and again we were extremely satisfied with the food, the service, the atmosphere and our whole dining experience. Don’t think about it, just go and I promise you will leave full, happy and if need be, slightly buzzed!! Cheers
I'm in Morro a lot during the weekdays and sad that they aren't open during the week. The hours are fri-sun. There's indoor seating, but we're big patio people. This place is perfect for patio sitting with a drink in your hand while enjoying the weather and people watching. We enjoyed conversing and sharing laughs with others on the patio. The staff is super cool, and the girls are so sweet. They have a nice list of beer and wine. I got the Bernet Rosè and it was cold and refreshing. My boyfriend got the Cali Squeeze blood orange beer and it was cold and crisp. Dog friendly.
I love visiting the Central Coast and Morro Bay, and we plan our trip on a day that STAX is open. STAX is one of the welcoming, friendly, and comfortable eateries. The food and wine are excellent; the servers are friendly and knowledgeable; the owners ensure that you are enjoying your meal and wine. All the food is excellent, especially the crab cakes, wedge salad, and the swordfish. Food and wine heaven.
We were looking for a wine tasting room walking in the Morro Bay Harbor, and believed this was the best place for our needs. My wife enjoys whites, and I Reds. STAX had a great selection for the both us us. STAX has plenty of seating both inside and outside. And seating for small and larger parties. The food looked really good, though we were still full from lunch. The staff is outstanding. Friendly and observant, they were always around for a question or another glass of wine. On their recommendation, I had a nice Cab Sauv and pinot. I will say this.... They have a great selection of bottles to choose from. And a majority of their bottles are actually less expensive than at the wineries and grocery stores... I have been to many wine bars where the bottle prices are crazy high. Not here... A true gem of a spot.
Great little place with excellent food and wine. Happy hour had great choices. My husband loved the fresh oysters and I loved my crab cakes. They has entertainment also the gentleman singing with guitar was very good. I believe Mike was his name. Our server was also very pleasant 😊
We saw Stax while driving in and decided to stop in and we are glad we did. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. Our waitress Cece was very nice and took care of us. We will definitely come back.
Malia was a great host and I loved my crab cakes, crostini and Austin hope chardonnay! A great food and wine combo and beautiful view of the Stacks!!!!
This has been our go to date spot for a few years. I am so happy to say the new owners are amazing and create a wonderful dining experience. Our food and service was perfect and we got some great wine recommendations from our server that we loved. The brussel sprouts are mandatory. The ambiance is perfect for a small group, business meeting, or just a date night for dinner/apps.
Dinner here on Christmas Eve. It was a perfect evening for a quiet holiday with my husband. The seafood chowder was amazing and enjoyed the red blend wine! Recommend visiting this spot while in Morro Bay.
Totally an amazing experience! We totally enjoyed the the Crab cakes and and Filet Mignon servers a top Crostini with Pesto sauce . So yummy and well presented. A Sarah was awesome and was helpful in assisting us in our menu selection . Staxs Wine and Bistro is definitely one of the treasure's in Morro Bay.
Decided to eat here with family as it was one of the very few restaurants open past 6/7 pm. Great wine selection. We had the crostini and Margherita pizza. Really tasty, fresh and hit the spot. Our server was very friendly gave us tips of other activities and sights we should consider while in town. They were accommodating to our small service dog and had gas lamps to keep us warm. Had nice ambience with holiday music playing in the background. Highly recommend!
Always on point with fine wine selection and such quality food to accommodate your selection. Staff is always so awesome and live music! Stax you have us as life long customers and we will be back over and over again. If your thinking of it just do it come in and have a little glass of wine and cheese trust me it is totally a magical moment with fine wine, great food, and a view worth the world. Love ya Stax!!!
Fantastic service from Ian! The charcuterie was absolutely amazing, and a great amount of food for the price. It paired very well with the Pinot blanc 👍🏻 The patio seating with the heaters is great for relaxing and people watching. Can’t go wrong at Stax!
Decent wine bar with grub to match. Location is at the end of Morro Bay and it’s makes a good spot to wrap up a jaunt around the Bay Area to wind it up with a good swing of the red grapes. Bourbon Glazed Pork Belly was a winner for sure!
What a wonderful wine bar! Such a great selection and the folks that work there are wonderful. The owner is an absolute delight. And the food..... WOW! We will certainly visit again.
STAX will forever hold a special place in my heart! Over nine years ago, my husband and I did our first road trip and stopped in Morro Bay where we fell in love. 2 years after that, he proposed to me at The Rock and we had our engagement party at STAX. We rented out part of the restaurant and had family and friends to celebrate. Fast forward to 2020, we're celebrating our 9th Valentine's day at STAX. This place never disappoints! + AMAZING SERVICE! Just the friendliest, warmest, most accommodating, and helpful staff. They are always so cheerful and inviting, and super knowledgeable on wine! + Great location! It's an easy walk to The Rock and lots of sight seeing. You have a beautiful view of the bay and The Rock. + Beautiful and relaxed interior. Lots of seating to relax and enjoy vino + Great music that sets the mood + Wonderful wine list from local wineries and delicious nosh.
We would normally not be going out during the weekend because everything is so busy with tourists but found ourselves out and Stax not quite as busy as normal. We snuck in and was able to grab a bite. Conor was amazing. We had an interesting tomato lobster bisque, some fried brussel sprouts, and carnitas tacos. We finished off with a brownie which was very good. The tomato lobster bisque was creamy with enough lobster bits to make sure the taste wasn't overdone by the tomato. The fried brussel sprouts were served with a lemon garlic aioli and were very nice. The carnitas tacos were served on a corn tortilla with salsa verde and were so very good. We were impressed by the food and Conor times everything perfectly. This is a place to schedule for a return visit, maybe a Saturday afternoon wine with some snacks would be lovely.
Great place for food and drinks. Sierra and the rest of the staff were super friendly on a very busy August16th 2020 Sunday afternoon. We had the Portobello mushroom and crab cake which both were excellent, especially the crab ! Good selection of wines and cold beer, much appreciated :)
Had such a good time at STAX; super friendly staff and delicious food! If you check in on Yelp, you get a free wine tasting. The Ultimate crostini was delicious, don't miss it.
Saved this place for the final night of our vacation as it never disappoints. The caprese crostini was delicious. My husband enjoyed his white wine and I enjoyed my Zolo malbec. Our servers was great. Very friendly. Best way to end our stay at Morro Bay.
I just might write a review every time I eat here. Service is top notch. Ask for Connor. Food is beyond. The chef and owners will treat you like a rockstar. This time I tried the lamb and it was some of the meatiest, juiciest, most perfect lamb I've ever had. And the dessert. Omg.
My Family and I had a good lunch at this place. Even though we were a party of 8 they served us fast. The food was absolutely delicious. Thanks again and see you next time!
Adorable quaint wine bar! Nice music, atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable bar staff. The food was also well presented and fresh. I would definitely come back.
This is my favorite spot in Morro Bay by far! Great wine, awesome food, super nice and knowledgeable staff... Can't beat it!
Stax in Morro Bay is an absolute charmer! We stopped in for some lovely wine and were delighted by the experience. This corner spot is buzzing with energy all day long. The team is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and so much fun! Whether you're in the mood for a glass of wine or some amazing nibbles, Stax is the perfect place to take a break while exploring Morro Bay. You won’t be disappointed!
Wow!! We absolutely love STAX. One of our favorite places in Morro Bay!! The other day we had the best charcuterie platter at STAX we have ever had in our lives. Amazing!! And the service is always fantastic!! Thx Vanessa & Coco!! 👍

We stopped in for a snack of Snails & Clam Chowder (My Wife had a small pizza) and we both had Sauvignon Blanc. Selina provided very pleasant service. The chowder was the thinnest ever but had a very robust clam flavor. My wife was happy with the pizza and the wine.
One our local favorites “Go To”s? Amazing food, great selection of our local wines. Ask for the “off the menu” Choice dinners, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Wonderful place, excellent food, great selection of wine. Ask for the non menu steak options. They are delicious.

Though I can't drink yet, Stax is still a good place to chill. My parents did enjoy the wine and, as the name implies, you can easily see the famous Morro Bay smokestacks from the front window. Good place.
We loved the food but the service was very lacking. No smiles, no checking that out order was good, had to get up and go ask for my glass of wine. Don’t know if I will be back with that service.
The place was alright. We stayed in Morro bay for a night, and went out for dinner and drinks. This place was the closest to the bay. It was nice that it was close to the bay, but we doubted the drinks or specifically the wines because we woke up with bad headaches the next day. Giving it 4 stars because the ambiance and the staff were great, very accommodating.
All the food was very tasty. The charcuterie board was a little on the skimpy side for $25. Otherwise we very much enjoyed our time and the entrees. Right now it looks like a local artist has their work displayed focusing on Crows. Absolutely amazing.
An amazing wine selection is waiting for you at this small seaside place. The food was great, however we found out after ordering that there is a secret menu. Be sure to ask so as not to miss out.
Great atmosphere with a large wine selection. I was hoping to see more local wines, but what they have was amazing. The food was pretty solid. As an avid seafood lover, I have to admit that I didn't love the crab cakes. There was a lot of crab, but they weren't my favorite. They're a popular menu item so they may be more to your liking than mine.
This restaurant was awesome. The wait staff spectacular the dessert that I had was the lava cake and it was delicious well prepared and very fudgy...The atmosphere was so friendly and casual I even shared a table with someone and it made the experience even better everyone was friendly and outgoing I highly recommend this place
Nice setting for a Wine Bar; and they serve great beers on tap. At the same time, they have tastey and amazing small plates! We had wine with Caprese Crostinis, and a small side of toasted almonds. All of it was nice, and a great venue to have a conversation with friends, and loved ones! The bathroom laboratory fixtures are bold and creative; a real surprise, as they have great taste in artistry as well!

We found the lettuce wraps to be underwhelming , the caprice salad was made with cherry tomatoes, not our best food experience , service was very pleasant.
We visited twice on our trip. The first visit was good, with friendly staff. We tried the mushroom flatbread appetizer. On the second trip the service was not as welcoming, but the fajitas were very good.
The food is OK, but if you are vegan, there is not much of anything to choose from. My husband who is not vegan, wanted to order the lettuce wraps but the waiter said they were out of lettuce. Then he wanted a margarita but they only serve beer and wine. We asked for ice for our drinks they said they don't have ice. They never even asked us if we wanted dessert they just brought the bill. Overall, not the best experience.
Burgers are one of the few things that you can buy at almost any restaurant in Morro Bay. However, only Stax offers a burger with… nothing! That’s right, you don’t get any fries, chips, special sauces, unique flavors, extra large patties, higher quality meat…. Just nothing at all special, for the same $18 that would get you at least one of the above extra items, at every other possible option… So, that’s my first and last visit to Stax!
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is right on the water on the Embarcadero. They have a good wine list and excellent service. We ordered the caprese salad and some bread which was very good. The carnitas tacos were pretty good, but not great. The seafood chowder was fishy and *extremely* salty so we sent it back. Having been raised in New England and on Cape Cod we know good seafood chowder - it is almost impossible to find outside of New England, sad to say. The consistency of the chowder here at Stax was correct - on the thinner side and not too thick. That thick, gloppy stuff you see for sale is 100% wrong - authentic chowder is not thick. In any case, we would return and order the things we found on the menu that were reasonably good. Again - Stax has standout service what was appreciated.

I ordered 12 oysters, I got 11 but was charged for 12 also ordered a brie and baked fruit appetizer that had no cheese just fruit. I ordered some tacos and only had to ask once if they were still coming at which point they were placed into the system. My glass was empty for a few minutes twice, not the most attentive staff.
My experience was terrible. On our 2nd anniversary my wife and I recieved rude and discriminatory service from a Caucasian female with light brown or blonde hair who was 6 feet tall. Aside from it being a day that my wife and I will NEVER forget, the waitress had no background knowledge on the wines she was pouring or she simply wasnt interested in provided good service to US; two black working professionals celebrating their 2nd anniversary in Morro Bay. We went to this place on a reccomendation from our limo driver. We get there and do a wine tasting which allows one to taste 5 wines for $10.00. We begin tasting, and I was certain that we had only tasted 3 wines. Nevertheless, the lady insisted that we were on our final taste. I calmly stated my position of indifference thinking that this was just a simply mix up; id seen the woman being very friendly and providing service to the two white patrons so I figured; I'm the customer and surely she just wants us to stay, enjoy the environment, and spend more money at her establishment....that wasnt the case. Immediately, the lady accused me of being belligerent. She then looks at my wife and asks her to "help her deal with me." My wife is then confused because both of us were calm. However, my wife then caught on to why I was dissatisfied because the context changed in the waitresses energy. We noticed her demeanor change to one of being a victim suddenly. Considering, the way that things play out nowadays when white folks cry wolf in social media on black and brown people My wife and i decided to leave rather than make her famous on social media. I almost forgot to mention that she was practically yelling at us the entire time. The lady then says; well this whole thing can be free since you have a problem with the service...as if to imply that I provoked the situation or that my true intent was to somehow inadvertently avoid the bankruptcy I would possibly face if I paid this woman 10 bucks for these drinks. This is NOT the place to visit if you are black or brown. Definentaly dont visit if you want professional service. The customer is NOT always right here. You will not be treated with respect unless you are white.
It used to be our favorite place to eat in MB but it had disappoint us twice in a row with their service. We had an encounter with a rude staff telling an elderly with post-stroke mobility problem not to sit on their chair by the front door while he was waiting for us to pull the car over as he couldn’t walk that far to get to where the car was parked. Also numerous time calling them, we were told they do not take reservations and only come to find out they had tables reserved??? That’s either lack of training so the staff giving out false information or they only preserve reservations to people they know. It’s hard to promote tourism of this lovely town when restaurants are like this.
Great wine selection and food options. Unfortunately, the servers care more about the owners who flaunt they are the owners taking up the front 3 tables on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We sat with empty drinks for over 15 mins and never got help. We were the only other customers there who were present with the owners. We decided to close out and go somewhere else.
