Food was absolutely amazing. The service was even better! The waitress made excellent recommendations. The only thing I could fault her on was that she did not recommend double green beans! They were incredible! She was spot on. Very friendly and attentive.
We enjoyed trying out this restaurant! Everything we ordered was good! We had onion rings, chicken salad, shrimp brochette and chicken ella. The onion rings were large and flavorful, it was indeed a must try. The interior of the restaurant was also appealing. I will clearly recommend this to anyone visiting Nacogdoches!
Are group had an amazing time we had a great big group they were very accommodating and the food was on point
Best onion rings in the known universe. It makes me sad to see onion rings listed anywhere else because I know they won't be good. I don't even "like" onion rings, but I will devour them from Clearsprings. Nothing like it.
Food was surprisingly fantastic. As a group we ordered the Crawfish chowder chicken fried steak and fried catfish and shrimp. I had the catfish and shrimp and quite honestly it was as good if not better than my great aunts. Which for those who don't know me is huge high praise.
The manager is busy, but not without a open welcome conversation. I was amazed by the establishment, as well as the staff's ability to truly sincere. This place has deserved a special honor and place in my heart for excellence in future "Word of mouth", repeat business. Thank you, and Bless Clear Springs Restaurant.
Excellent, friendly service and delicious food. Great atmosphere!
Went there for our Anniversary.... As usual the food was outstanding. It's a 2 hour drive one way, but it's worth it. Make sure and order the onion rings or the fried pickles appetizers.
We were on a short trip to the area and stopped in way closer to close than is polite. Waiter was still friendly and attentive. We got the stingers, surprisingly good! Salmon was spicy but good. Steak was a little over cooked but good. Definitely recommend going here
Great food, and the best waitress ever. Bethany was fast, polite and knew the menu perfectly. She made the meal even better. Quick drinks, checked on us and fantastic server. Thank you CS
Great place to eat easy to get too and parking is easy. The place can get really crowded due the popularity of it. The chicken fried steak is one of my top meals. The onion rings are epic. Something else to say about it is be some to be hungry or willing to have a to go box cause they are large portions. The desserts are delicious also I recommit the cobbler
We came in during the tropical storm beryl... They had power when we walked in but lost it after we ordered drinks. They were very friendly and professional about the whole situation and offered to let us wait but we decided to continue down the road. They also didn't charge us for the drinks. Can't wait to try again as I've heard great things about this place!
Excellent place to eat. Great food and service.
Got a recommendation to come here, and had an awesome experience. The food was great, but the service was even better. Trevor R. gave me some great recommendations, and his attention to detail made the experience relaxing, which was great after 6hours of driving and 8hours of work. My glass never dropped under half. I had the Salmon and a Crabcake and they were both awesome. I would definitely recommend this place, and will stop by again.
Blackened fish dish was excellent n so was the gumbo. Absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend it.
Eight of my family had dinner on a wednesday and enjoyed every minute. Onion appetizer, jalapeño appetizer, steak, seafood, salads, everything was best cooked, fast served, and reasonable price. Bring appetite for desert too because key lime pie, and peach cooler a la mode were fantastic.
I have frequently visited here and as a rule the catfish has been excellent but the last time it was mostly crunch and very little fish. I hope this was an isolated event because I think overall the restaurant rates a great review. My wife and I recently returned to Clear Springs for a meal. She ordered grilled chicken and I ordered fried catfish. We both enjoyed the meal and the country music that was being played in the background. The young man that was our server, took very good care of us and was very courteous.
I was in town visiting and decided I'd give them a try. The building seems to have been some sort of old warehouse or train station...not really sure but its seems to have some history behind it. I must say that I was impressed and my food was actually good. I had the "lil buddy" which is 3 fish strips, 3 shrimp, cole slaw, hush puppies, fries, and pinto beans. I also ordered a side of hush puppies which were disappointing...they were overcooked almost burnt! I will definitely go back again whenever I'm in town! Oh, let me not forget the prices...you can't go to too many places and get a plate like that for $16!!
One of my favorite places to eat in Nacogdoches. The drinks are fantastic, the food is great too. The only place that I get steak and chicken fried anything. We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here. They were so helpful and cared so much about what we wanted. They treated us like family, a benchmark of Nacogdoches and Texas in general.
My Best friend decided she was going to surprise me by taking me out to eat... little did I know we'd end up at one of the places I've always wanted to go to...Being that Ive never been here before in my life and Im experiencing with my bestie I knew it was going to be a special night...and OMG I had the best time of my effing life the food was delicious the drinks were great and me and my friend was acting like it was our last night out but the food back to the food it was so much more than what I dreamed about...i kant wait to kum bak I would love to keep my seats...plz guys...proof is in the photo's...u guys im in Love...
Really enjoyable experience, great food and service, best onion rings on the planet.
Nice surprise!! The best East Texas Food! Usually east Texas puts a lot of sugar in their cooking, it was so nice to taste slaw, beans, catfish ... all tasty and cooked perfectly. Fast, friendly enough and priced fairly. ... no they won’t sell the old antiques inside, darn. We will be back for sure!
Clear Springs serves the best fried catfish and onion rings in East Texas! Update: My husband, one of our grandsons and I are eating at Clear Springs, in Nacogdoches, again today. My husband and grandson ordered lunch special combo plates: gumbo and fried catfish for hubby and fried shrimp and fried catfish for Grandson Zander. I ordered a charbroiled chicken breast with pinto beans, hush puppies and onion rings. The charbroiled chicken breast takes a long time to cook, but it is delicious! As always, the fried catfish and onion rings are some of the best we have ever eaten! 😋 The restrooms are clean and stocked. The large, free parking lot is clean and well-maintained. Recommend! Update: My husband, four of our grandchildren, and I ate at Clear Springs again, this evening. Stand-out dishes were fried pork rinds, grilled pork chop (takes 20 minutes but is worth the wait), fried catfish, pinto beans and hushpuppies. The only disappointing dish was the dry coleslaw which had very little flavor. (I exchanged it for pinto beans.) Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The entire restaurant and parking lot was clean and well-lit. Our grandchildren missed the pretty fish, from the dining room aquarium, so much that they stared at the tank trying to spot a fish.
This place is awesome. Walking up to it I just feel the history that has gone through this building. We were greeted and seated very properly. Ordered a basket of the world famous onion rings and they were good. The batter was light and stuck to the thick onion ring. I recommend you get the famous onion rings. I had the catfish and shrimp combo basket with coleslaw, pinto beans, and french fries. Those Pinto beans and claw slaw were very tasty. I will definitely be there to order catfish and/or steak. I highly recommend you stop by clear springs in Nacogdoches Texas.
A couple of friends of mine told me about this restaurant and i was very impressed. It was amazing. We were greeted and seated very quickly. Our waitress was very quick and informative. We ordered their famous onion rings, and they were so good. So were their fried pickles and mozzarella sticks. I highly recommend you get the famous onion rings!! I had the chicken fried steak with fries and steamed Broccoli. Everything was very tasty. I will definitely be there to order again. I highly recommend you stop by Clear Springs in Nacogdoches. You won't be disappointed :)
We throughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We ordered the shrimp wontons, 10/10. I had the chicken fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. They were all great. The only complaint I had was the drinks not having enough ice in them. That was easily remedied. I noticed the table next to us had the same complaint.
Highly recommend the party room for special events! The service was amazing and the food came out quick even with 30 people!!
This place had some great food and friendly atmosphere. The only thing I would change is to add some seating for those waiting to get in the place. We came on a Sunday in the middle of COVID-19. There were absolutely no other restaurants open in Nacogdoches, Texas except for fadt food joints. There is room to put a row of benches outside the building, on the poach area. We stood outside fried before our meal. The chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes was most excellent. I highly recommend the place.
Been here before about 3yrs ago before Covid-19, and a last minute idea to take a drive from SulphurSprings, Tx, it was a 100% join decision to try the scenic 2 hour drive to Clear Springs Restaurant in Nacogdoches, TX for their Seafood Menu. Decent prices for generous portions with great tasting Seafood, is worth the time and drive!
Nac is an hour away from our house. When we come for Dr appointments we love eating here. They have a lunch special Tilapia over garlic mash potatoes with green beans that is awesome. Not fishy at all, not hot spicy but lots of flavor. All the items on lunch menu (entire menu for that matter) sound fabulous. Hubby gets CFC and loves it too. We even found ourselves singing under our breaths to a few of the 70’s songs. Very enjoyable.
Great onion rings and fried catfish. Glad I did not get a large though, I don't think we could've eaten it, tables beside us had larges and they were stacked high, huge portion! Great 👍 food and , I loved the homemade tartar sauce as well!!
It's a very chill country home cooking spot. Wooden seats and walls, very good service. If you like espresso martinis, the affogato martini was good(and strong) The salads are huge. I would come back.
This place is really neat, I've learned that it's an old railway building converted into a restaurant. The service and food was great, the staff was super friendly. I got a few pics of the decor and forgot to get a pic of my food, lol but I did snap a pic of my wife's fish plate before she ate very much of it. I got the grilled salmon with the jalapeno glaze and it was excellent!
The fried Pickles were so delicious. This picture is after eating at least half. The ranch is obviously homemade and great. I got the Chicken fried pork ribeye which was exceptional. My mom got the Chicken fried steak which she said was delicious. The buttered corn was phenomenal. Overall everything was great, including our server!
The food is on point, our server Brittany was awesome, and the building was really cool. I had the fried catfish, and it was probably the best I have ever had. The batter crispness and the pieces were the perfect size, not too thick or thin. I was really impressed. Everyone needs to dine here.

Great Texas classic! Food was hot and delicious. Service was impeccable and timely. Staff was warm and friendly and prices were well within budget. Would come back to Nacogdoches just to eat here!
Awesome catfish and beer selection. Try the angry axe beer! This is my go to restaurant when I'm in town! Service is always good and it has an awesome country atmosphere.
Good food, nice variety, good service. prices aren't bad either. Give it a try if you haven't yet.
Got to stop here and get a stack of onion rings must have so delicious and chicken fries steak was great to
Great food. Excellent customer service and clean environment. Me and college friends as well as work colleagues eat here all of the time. Waiting is never a problem and seating is convenient.

Food was bland (even stuffed jalapeno) and fish/shrimp were overcooked. My personal opinion. Service was really good and the atmosphere was nice.
Food is good. They give you alot of food for the price. I would have given 5 stars however the seating is way too packed. Had servers and guests bumping into me while I was eating the whole time. That was not fun at all. I was also not given what I had ordered but ate it anyway because everyone else at my table had their food and I didn't want to wait another 30mins for food. What they gave me was okay. The grilled chicken they gave me was a bit dry and the bottom bun was mush. I ate a quarter of it. It tasted exactly like the frozen grilled chicken you get at SAMS club. Now the onion rings... Those were amazing!!!! I'd go there again just to eat them. They are so worth it.
Very good catfish and the portions are HUGE. Great crispy batter on the clean tasting fish that had just the right amount of spicy. Sides were ok, the slaw was good just not my preference, beans were tasty but a little cold. Started with the onion rings and they were great! Just don’t order the large unless everyone at your table is very hungry! Service and the sweet iced tea were on point as well!
My first time. Decided to try the Little Buddy. Catfish, shrimp, fries, slaw, pinto beans and hushpuppies. Everything was great except the slaw which was dry, and very bland. The atmosphere was very unique with lots of antiques and the prices reasonable for the bidenomic times we are living through.
Ordered Stingers for starter, Old fashioned burger and fried shrimp taco. Stinger was amazing. Fried stuffed jalapeños with shrimp and fish and it wasn't too spicy for me but I could taste the spiciness in it. Old fashioned burger had a decent sized patty and it was juicy. Fries were not bad.. it was crispy and warm with decent size. Shrimp taco was good too. Rice and bean wasn't impressive. Normal..? Shrimp taco tasted really good and well seasoned and mixed with other ingredients. Over all, I liked it!
Decent food but nothing to write home about. We went in tonight and got two chicken fried chicken dinners and my daughter got a burger. We also got fried pickles for appetizer. The fried pickles were great, in fact the best part of the meal. Our chicken fried chicken my wife and i got we'd rate a 5/10 and 6/10 respectively. The "crispy new potatoes" we got with the meal we're basically little potatoes wedge French fries and the bowl they came in was burning hot which indicated to me they'd been microwaved. The onion rings weren't crisp, a little soggy even a 4/10 at best. Of course the atmosphere was great as this place has been around nacogdoches for years and the decor matched. The service was very good and the kid serving us couldn't have been any nicer.. Well done. My daughter didn't think too much of her burger and rated it a 5/10 and didn't finish it. For the two chicken fried chicken plates, one burger, fried pickles and three sweet teas, it came out to $71.00... Maybe a little steep for my taste but almost average for sit down restaurants these days. Good place but the food could use some improvements imo.
Service, food and atmosphere was terrific. One HUGE disappointment was the banana pudding. It was absolutely terrific but the cup had 2/3 whipped cream and only 1/3 banana pudding sadly. Just like everything else now, you pay way more and get way less🥲
We are in town to visit Stephen F Austin University, so we decided to try this restaurant. We ordered the World Famous onion rings and cheese sticks to start. The onion rings were nicely batteres and tasty. The mozzarella sticks were also tasty and had a good cheese stretch. I ordered a house salad to start and it was okay. It comes with lettuce, tomato, bacon, egg, and onion. I asked for the egg and red onions to be left off. I did put a few on the onion rings on the salad. My husband had seafood combo platter, he chose catfish and shrimp, that came with coleslaw, fries, hush puppies, and beans. He said it was okay and some of the shrimp seemed slightly underdone. My daughter had the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. She said the sandwich was tasty, but not spicy and her fries were crispy. I had the chicken fried pork ribeye with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. The seasonal veggies were zucchini, squash, and onions. My pork was breaded nicely and very tender. The gravy was good, the normal country white gravy and the mashed potatoes and veggies were also good. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. I asked several questions and she answered them all.

Had an odd fishy smell, but food was awesome! My husband and I shared a fish, chicken strip, and shrimp platter that was great!
We love to eat here. The Texas onion rings are a must. Our waitress was really nice. We were quickly seated. Ordered our onion rings and waited for the rest of our order. Today the restaurant was crowded and we get that. But we waited an hour for the rest of our order. They apologized for the long wait and said that they ran out of clean plates and had to wait for the dishes to be washed. What? We saw others around us being served on plates. We only needed 3 plates. The kids ate out of paper baskets. If there was a mixup, just own it. This was irritating.
There is an old saying “Don’t mess with success” or Texas. Best Chicken fried steak no longer, they changed the breading. Now it is average at best. The catfish dinner is still delicious.
The food was not up to the quality I remember Clear Springs having years ago. The crawfish Po Boy was bland and the chicken strips tasted like they were bought from Sysco rather than hand breaded as I would expect for a restaurant trying for "home cooked" style. To get specific on the po boy: the fried crawfish was almost flavorless and there was no sauce besides mayo on the sandwich. Basically it has no style to it. It definitely wasn't worth the menu price. The chicken gumbo served as a side with the sandwich was quite good. It's a dark gumbo with a good, hearty flavor. If I go back to Clear Springs, I'll likely be ordering just a bowl of that.
Server very not customer friendly. Catfish had a very good taste but size of fish looked like nuggets not fish fillets.
They were unable to switch out my strong drink! Blue Hawaiian very 💪🏾. I wanted to switch to 🍹.
Fast and friendly service during slow period 5:15 on Tuesday. Fried crawfish tail appetizer not listed as being fried and came with a good remoulade but a lot of superfluous fries. Platter with bacon/jalapeño/shrimp skewer with separated blackened and pan seared catfish filets was ok, not special. Rice good, green beans over cooked, hush puppies blackened. No regrets but won’t return.
Fish and hushpuppies were very over cooked. Prices were a little high for an 8 oz. filet and service staff stood around joking not rounding their tables. Very few customers and we had to find someone to get our check.
Been several years since I've been here and it hasn't changed a bit. Has a comfy hometown feeling inside with "the good 'ole days memorabilia throughout the restaurant. They are famous for their onion rings (and they are very good), but the fried pickles are the best I've had! They offer a wide variety of seafood variations. Overall the food was good but I'm not like, "just can't waiting to go again" feeling. The food was good, service was great, lil pricey (but it's seafood), lots of parking and plenty of room inside. New you do have to know how to get here or use your Google map cause you can't see it from any busy street.
I had the shrimp and catfish which was great but my onion rings were barely warm and not fresh at all . I came in for the onion rings so that was disappointing.
I came here with friends while on a road trip. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is large and very well set up for social distancing. As a vegetarian there wasn't much on the menu for me to choose from. I had sides of mashed potatoes, broccoli and corn which were okay. My friends had chicken fried steak which was also okay. Not sure I'd return here but it was about the only place that was open for dine in during the lockdown on July 4 weekend.
Changing my review: This time was a sad disappointment. Oysters were mediocre, at best, far fewer than what was on my plate last visit, two different shades of fry looked like half of order was reheated, just not good. Hushpuppies not up to par, rest of food as good as usual. Server was inattentive, 20 minutes to take our drink order, brings salad WITH the main course. So disappointed. I hope they are not following Auntie Pasta's downward turn. (September) **Original review from June: *****Consistantly excellent. Great oysters, for the middle of June. Top notch service, never a disappointment. Definitely try the crab cake appetizer, it's special. Primo desserts, a terrific bar with local Fredonia Brewing Co. beer, and interesting mixed drinks, such as "Dangerous Redhead."**
Onion rings are by far the best, "note" Texas sizes is for like 8 people...😬 Had a burger and it was really good and juicy. Grilled chicken look good on another table, I'll have to come back. Rate 3 star just because of the wait time for the food and was not too busy for 30 minutes to get 2 burgers. Servers need to ve more attentive with customers drinks too. But would definitely return!
Our waiter Izzy was a delight. She greeted us with a warm smile and was very attentive. The food was good, but one of the cooks that could be observed from the dinning room was obviously annoyed and extremely rude with a couple of his co-workers. We have visited Aunties Pasta's for years and this is the first time (hopefully the last) we have ever seen such utter disrespect. I was embarrassed for the the ladies!!!
Overall, I loved the atmosphere and old-time feel of this place, but I think the food and service has some room for improvement. Most of the food was average in terms of spices used, cooking time, and overall flavor. My catfish was at the perfect crunch level, but my hush puppies and broccoli were a bit overdone. The chicken fried steak was overcooked as well. And both of our desserts (peach cobbler and banana pudding) were not the best. The peach cobbler was way too doughy and the banana pudding flavor was very artificial and contained overripe bananas. Our waitress was friendly, but there were multiple occasions where we asked for napkins or our waters where we had to remind her. Again, we’re all human, but after a while it was a bit tiresome. I’d be willing to give this place another try, but I think small adjustments need to be made to enhance the overall experience.
Large and well decorated restaurant. We were 6 adults in business trip. We took a fried onion that was ok. A gumbo soup that was excellent and fried catfish/sea food that was also ok. Not sure why the rating is so high. Maybe we did not select the best dishes? Overall not very impressed. Even the service was very long despite the fact that the restaurant was not packed.

I’ve been coming to this place since I was a kid. As an adult I was highly dissatisfied. This place does not serve real catfish. After asking the very kind and attentive waitress if they had real catfish she stated they did. THEY DO NOT HAVE REAL CATFISH. She apologized and I told her don’t apologize for something your manager and owners are pushing off and still charging as if you’re serving catfish. Working in agriculture and just being a country boy we know the difference. Sad that the servers have to sell a dream.
Driving by and thought we'd try this little place out. Walked in to a very cute restaurant. They set us clear in the back of a different room (i assume it was because we had a baby), where we sat for about 20 minutes before our waited took our order. We placed our appetizer and order at the same time. Appetizer came out about 10 minutes later, but our food took another 40 minutes to come out. When we did get it, it was cold. The cheese on the grilled cheese wasn't completely melted. The gravy on the chicken fried chicken was cold. The fries, onion rings, and chicken tenders were also cold. When I asked the waitress about it, she said, "Uhm, I'm not really sure, I went back several times checking. I'll see what I can do." She never even asked, she just ran the card, bright it back, said thank you, and walked away as we put the food in to go containers. We left without even eating. I figure I may as well warm it up when we get home versus waiting another 30 minutes for them to warm it up.
The food was cold and had no flavor. We had the chicken fried steak and it was greasy and cold with no flavor. We also got the chicken club salad and there was very little other then lettuce in the salad. The one redeeming thing was the onion rings.
Sorry guys you didn't hit the mark at all. The catfish and crawfish was horrible. Over cooked and over corn crusted in overheated grease. The onion rings tasted good. Service was good as well. So that was on the cook. They did offer to redo it and I turned it down gracefully. I don't think I would come back it doesn't have enough vest. But I won't say not to go yourself. Might have been a bad day.
I ordered the small "world famous O-rings" sorry but no flavor Sonics much better than what I got, so asked for some ranch 10 minutes she still had not brought it when running placed my dinner down so asked him for some ranch he must have told her here she comes there's your ranch. O-rings are cold. She comes by how is everything, well I asked for no gravy on my potatoes dont like gravy on my potatoes. I'm "about" not pleased with the meal and she comes by and said I guess your not gonna want any dessert. Well I actually was wanting some, thinking surely this can not get messed up but with that I passed and went to Chili's were I knew I should have gone. Came in from Louisiana for my 1yr old niece's B-Day party. Looked at reviews for this place. I was NOT very impressed.
Wasn't impressed with the service nor the food. Fish strips were very small and over cooked, fries were barley warm, the steamed Broccoli was good and hot. Pinto beans weren't hot. Service very slow, had to ask for napkins to clean up a spilled drink, because waitress just stood there, ask her to take soaked napkins off the table. For the price of the plates I didn't expect to be given paper plates for appetizers. Children were givin drink cups with lids that didn't fit. Was charged for extra ranch that we didn't even ask for. Safe to say we want be back
Horrible service and catfish was not good. My drink was empty half of my dinner, and the catfish was far from "award winning." Barely even fish with how much batter and small pieces they were. Not worth what I spent for it.
Very disappointed in Our Ribeyes. They were ordered medium well and mine was well done,my husband's was not medium well but literally burnt. And my sons was ordered medium and was well done.
Ive had better dining experiences in the hospital. I expected a lot more for the money. My daughter had a steak and Gumbo. She said that everything was okay but not great. I had the catfish, the menu said that it would be "The best catfish I've ever had." It was horrible. When they brought my food out, the 3 tiny pieces of fish were obviously burned. Just had that terrible, somebody forgot me in the deep fryer look. The fish tasted how you would have expected at that point. It was dry, tasted burned and so crispy I almost broke a tooth. The Cole slaw was dry, withered and stringy, like it had been sitting out for a few days. The beans were good but not enough to save the meal. Fries were the out of the freezer, fish restaurant standard. Hush puppies were so overcooked they were inedible. It was absolutely horrible. Waiter wasn't very friendly and had very little to say. Not his fault. Guess neither of us were impressed and both ready to leave. Including tip, this nightmare cost me $85. Could have spent the money at a fast food place and been happier about it. This place sucks.
