We had a really excellent dinner at The Coast Guard House. Even though our plans changed and we arrived 30 minutes before our 7:30PM reservation at 7PM on a Saturday night, they were still able to seat us right away at a table right next to the windows with a view of the crashing waves. We were starving, so we ordered the popcorn shrimp appetizer right away instead of ordering any drinks. Our waitress, Susan B., was totally accommodating and put that order in right away, then gave us plenty of time to decide what other food we would have. She also thoughtfully told us the specials right away. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was a great start, but we were really impressed with the greens & grains salad that we ordered as our second course. It was a little bit sweet from the house champagne vinaigrette and the almond granola, so the saltiness of the feta cheese it was served with provided a perfect balance. The restaurant can divide the salad onto two plates for a $2.00 charge, but we just shared off of a single plate since we had our bread and butter plates. For entrees, the lobster mac & cheese was really excellent with lots of lobster mixed into and placed on top of the mac & cheese. But, the linguine seafood pasta special was the best plate of the night. The sauce it was served in was delicious, and the dish had lobster and other seafood that just really brought it home. The holiday decor in the restaurant (in December 2025) was charming and the views of the bay, even at night, were nice. There was plenty of free street parking along Ocean Rd close to the restaurant, but they also offer valet parking. Very highly recommend The Coast Guard House and can’t wait to return!
I really enjoyed my experience at the coast guard house. I dined there in December with my hubby to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was romantic in the anchor room and decorated for the holiday. There was a welcoming fireplace and view of the ocean. We were well attended to by an extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. The food was yummy for the time of year. They have an extensive wine menu which was wonderful. I had chilled oysters which I loved and clam linguine which I enjoyed as well. My first experience was definitely memorable and I would recommend.
I had a night planned for months that could have gone completely off the rails — and thanks to the incredible team at the The Coast Guard House, it turned into a truly perfect evening. My wife’s birthday is February 13th, followed immediately by Valentine’s Day, so I wanted to plan something special. Four months ago I reserved one of the igloos for February 15th, invited friends, coordinated with the kids, and even arranged to pick up her favorite gluten-free donuts instead of a cake. Everything was set. Fast forward to the day of our reservation. My kids and friends were already there when my son called to say they couldn’t find the reservation. We were 10 minutes away, sitting in the car together, and there was no turning back. When we arrived, the staff kindly searched everywhere, but the igloos were fully booked and my confirmation email had mysteriously vanished. This is the moment where many people would get upset or start pointing fingers — but that didn’t happen. Instead, the staff and ownership immediately focused on solutions. The owner personally stepped in and arranged a table for us in a beautiful spot overlooking the water. No stress, no blame, just genuine hospitality and care. What could have been a disaster became one of the best nights we’ve had in a long time. The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the company were all perfect. Thank you to the entire team for turning a stressful situation into such a memorable and special evening. It truly meant a lot to us.

Ocean meets winter in this wonderful oasis. The food was incredible, but the highlight of the experience was the serene sound of the ocean mixed with personalized service. During our time, we had the pleasure of having Johnny as our server. Think of someone you just met that you think to yourself “man, I wanna be friends with that guy.” Would recommend asking for him if you get a chance. We need more people with a zest for life and genuine care like Johnny. A great destination for those looking to put a new spin on a favorite summertime destination.
My husband and I recently visited The Coast Guard House for the first time on a weekday afternoon for lunch. The view was amazing, the service was good and the food was delicious. My husband very. Much enjoyed his scallops. They were accommodating with my gluten free requests also. We can't wait to go back during the nicer weather!
First time visit. What can you say beyond the obvious, coastal dining at its finest. We made lunch reservations online 20 minutes before arriving. Complimentary valet, excellent! We were seated immediately upon arrival and treated to an amazing ocean view. After reviewing the menu we placed our order. There was a 30% discount on selected bottles which for us was a lovely pilot origin. Within a short time our food arrived. My wife was going light witj the lobster bisque and a house salad. I chose the special which was a penne with shrimp and scallops served in a delightful cream sauce. Our lunch was beyond our expectations. Coupled with the view made for an amazing dining adventure. Service and food were excellent. Enjoy.
Had an absolutely amazing experience here for dinner. I surprised my wife for our 3 year anniversary with a day full of activities, and chose to end the day here. We weren't disappointed! The food was delicious, the views were beautiful of the water at sunset, and our server was top notch. The complementary valet service was a nice touch as well, since parking on the street can be tough to find. Will definitely come again in the future
Our family (ages 74-7 months) enjoyed a perfect lunch in the igloos yesterday. Toasty inside in spite of single digit temperatures and gusty winds. Our server Harrison is the best--friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Food is always amazing at CGH, and drinks are delightful. Highly recommend this Oceanside treat!
Over all, a nice 5 star experience. We loved our staff. The food and drinks were delicious and the kitchen was fast! A great experience. Plus, I want to steal the recipe for the lemon pea salad. The banana bread pudding was amazing. Super amazing.
Our experience was wonderful. After a long day on the road, the staff were polite and friendly, we listened to the waves crashing against the rocks while we ate a delicious meal. The Shrimp Chowder was delicious and the Scallops cooked to perfection melted in your mouth. Highly recommend making this a destination stop.
Went on a sunny weekend. The server was courteous, the food was very tasty, and the view from were we were seated was amazing. Definitely a great place for date lunch or dinner. My wife and I had a fabulous time.
We started with the shrimp corn special soup of the day—so good! My son had the tuna steak with ponzu sauce, and our amazing waitress Brittney shared a great tip on pouring the sauce, which made it outstanding. I had the scallops with cream corn sauce, also excellent. Manager Steve was so kind helping my son with his lighthouse stamp. Great food, warm service, and a beautiful sunset view by the window. Highly recommended!
The food here was absolutely incredible. Definitely worth the 30 min wait (30 min quicker than expected). We tried two daily specials, which were both delicious. The view was gorgeous and the servers were so nice. We will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommend!
Our server, Tabitha, was the highlight of our meal. Having visited before, we knew the food was outstanding, but we were wowed by the service. She was welcoming, friendly, and didn’t miss a beat. The restaurant was extremely busy, but you would never have known. Truly a great team of professionals with wonderful food. The wine list was exceptional, and our sampling of the paper plane cocktail was one of the best we’ve had. Don’t sleep on the lobster tamale or shrimp cocktail.
We had a wonderful dining experience! The food was absolutely exquisite—everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We especially enjoyed the fresh oysters, which were a perfect balance of quality and price. Each dish was thoughtfully paired and complemented the others perfectly. Our server, Bryan, was exceptional. Despite managing several tables, he remained attentive, friendly, and professional throughout our meal. He made us feel truly taken care of. If you visit, definitely request Bryan—you’ll be in great hands. The staff also went out of their way to seat us by the window, where we enjoyed beautiful views that added to the overall experience. Can’t wait to return!
This is a beautiful restaurant to go to if you're going to visit this area... amazing on date night... hey beautiful beautiful choice if you were going to take a day trip!
Every time we visit RI, this restaurant is a must! It never disappoints. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The service is always unmatched. The food, keeps us coming back. Let's not forget about the peach sangria! It's definitely a must have...
Came to The Anchor Room for our anniversary and we weren’t disappointed, absolutely wonderful, 10 out of 10 would recommend. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We ordered Truffle Fries, Fried Calamari, Shrimp Bucatini, Linguini & Clams and a glass of Chenin Blanc.
We loved our visit here on a sunny Sunday afternoon. You can’t beat the view out on the deck. Prices were definitely high as most seafood places are but weren’t exorbitant. The biggest issue with this place is the parking. We hoped to use the valet but it was full when we arrived. We had to circle around the block several times looking for a spot and finally found a car pulling out of their street spot. We had to walk approximately 0.5 miles from our spot to the restaurant. Not a great situation for someone with parking anxiety like me. We had a raw bar platter of clams, oysters and shrimp and everything was excellent. They give you more than enough cocktail sauce, mignonette, and lemon. Our lobster rolls were a little light on lobster but were pretty good, and for the price are OK value. The clam chowder was excellent. I highly recommend the Dubai chocolate gelato.
We went here on mother's day not even thinking, without a reservation. They were great and were able to seat us. They put two small tables together for the four of us. Great service and excellent food. We ate there nine years ago as well and it was great then too. That's why we went back and will be sure to visit again if we ate in the area in the future!
Nothing but 5 stars for this Restaurant. This is a must for your bucket list. Wine list is extensive and complete. Bourbons are extensive. Raw bar .... you can't miss with theirs. Lobster Rolls .... superb, and chicken masala to die for. Views spectacular and service right on point. You won't be disappointed.
I recently attended a private party at The Coast Guard House Restaurant in South Kingstown, RI, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The location is truly fabulous, situated right on the coast, offering stunning views that enhance the overall ambiance. The food served during the event was delicious, with a variety of options that catered to different tastes. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, and it was evident that quality ingredients were used. Furthermore, the staff at the restaurant was very friendly and attentive, making sure that everything ran smoothly throughout the event. They were quick to attend to guests' needs, adding to the overall positive experience. In summary, The Coast Guard House Restaurant provided a lovely setting for a private party, complemented by tasty food and excellent service. I would certainly recommend it for similar events in the future.
Had a great meal at the Coast Guard House in Narragansett. We tried the heirloom tomato special, the shrimp and corn chowder, and the lobster tamale — everything was on point. Service was solid, view was beautiful, and they even had free valet. Can’t ask for much more. Definitely worth the stop if you’re in the area... and if your not make the detour!
We were only in town for the night. Fantastic location. Server was educated and prompt. Swanky vibes but amazing. I had shrimp chowder and hubby has the seared scallops. We had the Honey Pot brulee...Yum!
Had a wonderful dinner date! They are trying out some items for their summer menu, so good! We tried the crab cakes, branzino, and duck. I would come back for any of those! There was so much more I wanted to try!
We had reservations and were seated in the upstairs anchor room. Beautiful view! Seated promptly. Server was excellent and attentive. We had appetizers, drinks, food and dessert. Everything was delicious. Mgr checked in with our table 2x and was so nice. Valet parking Definitely 5 stars!
The food was so good, I completely forgot to take pictures! The lobster was delicious, fish & chips were just okay, but the fries and potato salad were surprisingly tasty. Our server was friendly and gave great suggestions. The view is absolutely stunning. Overall, a great experience — can’t wait to go back!
Good was excellent! Service was very wonderful, and the atmosphere made for a wonderful date night 🌉 we will be back and hopefully try one of their patio domes for a small party 🎉
Always a good meal. The surf and turf special was absolutely amazing. The lobster tamale was new for me, but I want to go back and get it again.
Fantastic views, great service, delicious food. We were a group of 8, and for the most part, we all were very happy with what we ordered.
We want to extend my sincere thanks for the incredible experience we had at your restaurant. From start to finish, the service was wonderful, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was absolutely delicious. What truly stood out, though, was how gracefully your team handled an unexpected and unpleasant situation when someone nearby became ill and it unfortunately affected one of us. Your staff responded immediately with professionalism, kindness, and care offering assistance, paying for our entire meal, and even providing a complimentary shirt and sweatshirt. You went far above and beyond what anyone could expect, and we were so touched by your generosity and compassion. It's clear that your restaurant not only delivers excellent food and ambiance but also embodies genuine hospitality. We'll definitely be back soon and will be recommending you to everyone we know. With appreciation, Colleen, Kristin, Heather, & Denise
Amazing! Today was my first visit and I couldn't be more pleased. The food was outstanding, the view is amazing, the service is excellent. To the waiter, manager, and staff keep up the excellent work. I have visited a lot of restaurant's in this world and this one is in my top 2 favorites. I cannot wait to go back.
I just recently had my engagement party hosted by the Coast Guard House in the Anchor Room which is upstairs! It was absolutely perfect! The staff was amazing and was on top of it the entire party! The food was amazing and drink service was great! I cannot thank the staff there enough! I highly recommended them for any event! 5 stars all around!
Fantastic Food, Spectacular Service, awesome Atmosphere! I've been meaning to come here for 25 years, and finally made it for my 58th birthday. Winter is the best time to explore the coast. Surfers were out, the Rollers were coming in, even think I saw a seal! Had the Cherrystones which were perfect! No grit! Linguine with clams was the best I've ever had! The host gave us a prime seat by the SE corner windows without being asked, the waiter was excellent, even the young woman pouring water was cheerful and efficient. We will be back for sure, although I wouldn't even attempt coming "on season" Lunch in February is just my speed! Even my finicky Mother-in-Law was pleased!😂 I grew up clamming and fishing and am a seafood snob. Well worth the price Deserts were to die for!.
I had an absolutely outstanding dinner at The Coast Guard House, and it was an experience from start to finish. The view alone is worth the visit. Sitting right on the water, the panoramic ocean scenery is unbeatable — especially around sunset. Watching the waves roll in while enjoying dinner creates an atmosphere that feels both relaxing and special. It’s easily one of the best dining views in Rhode Island. The food was just as impressive. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly prepared, and thoughtfully seasoned. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in quality and consistency. Every bite felt elevated but still comforting. Service truly made the night exceptional. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm without ever being intrusive. The timing of courses was perfect, and the staff made us feel welcomed and appreciated throughout the entire evening. If you’re looking for a place with stunning views, delicious food, and top-tier service, The Coast Guard House absolutely delivers. It’s the kind of restaurant you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend — 5 stars all the way
We had another perfect dinner at the Coast Guard House! From the cocktails and appetizer (fresh basil on calamari?? Who knew??), excellent entrees (fillet of beef and salmon) and dessert, everything a fine meal should (espresso bruno- wow!)be! Our our server Lourdes was personable and attentive, but not intrusive. The views and atmosphere were phenomenal!
Limited menu but decent food. Excellent staff/ service in a historic building with awesome waterfront views. Love the design of the arched crossover/ drive under. Our server Megan was absolutely a Jem! She gave great insights which helped us select our meals etc and seemed honest/ down to earth. We visited in the winter because we could tell it will probably be hard to get reservations during warm weather.
We went to the Coast Guard House for the first time last night, for my significant other's birthday dinner. The free valet parking was very nice, and made a great impression from the start. We were early for our igloo reservation, so we stopped at the bar for a pre-dinner drink. Jim, our bar server, was very personable & professional. The bar has a nice vibe -and Jim is part of the reason for that! The hostess (who's name escapes me) was able to get us into our igloo a bit early. The igloo's (which have a $100 upcharge) are very cool, and worth it for a special occassion! (I should mention that these 6 igloos allowed the Coast Guard House to remain open during COVID -keeping their staff employed.) They each have a different theme. Ours was named "Bountiful" -think Autumn. They have an electric fireplace, a heater, and a bluetooth speaker that you cak connect to and use your playlist, Sirius, etc. They can hold 8 people. Nice sofas, tables, & had a basket of blankets as well. Our server Nick was very attentive, and teriffic overall, with one exception that I'll get into at the end of my review. It was Vintage Tuesday (20% orr any bottle) so we bought a nice Montepulciano which we enjoyed. We planned on a half dozen oysters (Mystic) and half dozen littlenecks. Nick suggested their Anchor Platter -which added 2 huge shrimp to them. That was a good move! For entrées Pam had the Salmon which she really enjoyed. I had the pasta special: chopped scallops, shrimp, & lobster in a cream sauce on papperdelle. I was surprised by how much lobster it had, and it was delicious For dessert, we shared a piece of cheesecake, coated in graham cracker crumbs. It was tasty! However, my reservation had a birthday notation, and I reminded the restaurant through their Open Table texting that it was a birthday (which they said they knew from the reservation.) They said to tell our server and they would put a candle on the dessert for her. I made sure Nick knew it was her birthday as well. ...No candle on the dessert. Certainly an oversight, but it was a special occassion & I did my part 3 times. I'd love to give the Service a 5 -because it was, other than this. I wish there was a 4.8 option, but there is not. Ignoring this would not be helpful to the next person with a birthday. We will certainly be back again!
The location is ideal for the coastal area. They have both indoor and outdoor seats. The beach offers an additional soothing and vibrant atmosphere. They have a variety of cuisines with a focus on seafood. The price is a little bit high. The service was good. The linguine with clams and fried calamari is the best among all, and I highly recommend it. The clams are literally fresh, combined with the savoury sauces. The outside of the calamari is crispy but yet very chewy. The pork chop was good. The crab cake is incredibly soft.
The Coast Guard House is a fantastic spot for coastal dining in Narragansett. The location is unbeatable—right on the water with sweeping ocean views that make for an unforgettable atmosphere. Sitting outside on the patio during brunch was a real highlight. The food was excellent overall. We especially enjoyed the truffle fries, calamari, mahi-mahi, pork chop, pork shank, grilled swordfish, and the raw bar selection. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully presented. The cocktail menu also offered some creative options that paired nicely with the seafood. Service was friendly and professional, though things moved a bit slowly during peak brunch hours. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it’s worth noting if you’re on a tighter schedule. The only reason for four stars instead of five is the pricing—while the quality is great, it is on the higher end. Still, it’s worth it for a special night out or to impress out-of-town guests. All in all, a wonderful dining experience and one of the best spots for oceanfront views in Rhode Island.
Very nice view from the terrace, service was good, food is fresh and tasty. Very good dessert in a pistachio mascarpone cake.
Lobster bisque and shrimp cocktail were very good, grilled fish in the fish taco was a little bit dry, and the scallops were very good on a butternut squash purée with pomegranates sprinkled about, but it was a bit too sweet. There may even have been some sugar on the scallops to caramelize them. There was sugar in the butter that accompanied the bread. The chef must have a sweet tooth. Lovely views of the ocean all around.
I’ve been coming for years, Prime Rib on Sundays is terrific! Service is excellent and atmosphere is pleasant, with beautiful views of the water. Of course the seafood is amazing and there are plenty of ways to order from the menu to suit varying needs.
We sat out on the patio on a beautiful day and it was very lovely. The valet was great and very helpful at such a busy time of day. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired and the mocktails as well. I ordered one of their entree specials and it was a disappointment both with flavor and presentation. The mocktail was club soda with a splash of something purple and a few blueberries sprinkled on top, no flavor. Not worth the price. Everything was very overpriced and the kitchen made a mistake with our appetizer but would not make it right when we brought it to their attention. The pistachio gelato was delicious though I question its authenticity.
Friendly staff and fast service. The crab cake and clam chowder were worth ordering, but the clam linguine needs more seasoning. The fish and chips were really good, except the fries tasted and felt somewhat like they had been made a long time ago.
Made reservations for dinner to celebrate a little mom’s night out. We were super excited to finally try this restaurant and we weren’t all that impressed. Service was ok, it took almost ten mins for our waitress to acknowledge us. The views were stunning, however, we were seated right at the entrance of the kitchen where the servers are placing the orders and the dishwasher was working. It was LOUD and somewhat annoying to be sitting right there. The drinks were just ok, I ordered the brown sugar pineapple margarita and it had a weird taste to it. She ordered the Ms. Shirley and it was SO bitter. The food was fantastic. We both agreed that if either of us were to ever come back, we’d only sit at the bar or the outside patio.
The steak was perfection, the caeser salad was bland, and the bartender was arguing with other staff about who got to leave first instead of serving all the people around the bar. Beautiful view though.
We (my wife and I) went Jan 3rd 3026 for our wedding anniversary. The reviews were great, and wanted to try something new so took an almost 2 hour drive each way to get there with reservations. We arrived a little early so we had a couple drinks in the anchor room bar, the bartender was friendly and our beverages were good. We then were brought to our table unfortunately next to a large birthday party with some who had seemed to be over served. We ordered the calamari which was decent but then received our main course. My wife had the salmon and risotto which the risotto was way undercooked and crunchy so she stopped eating, I had the ribeye with twice baked potato (half). The steak was prepared correct, but the potato was absolutely terrible in flavor. The picture attached, the meal looks delicious, but wouldn’t get this again if we go back. Again it was our anniversary trying to venture and go somewhere new, but definitely left a little disappointed.
I had dinner in one of the igloos. It was very pretty and I loved the sound of crashing waves. I had salmon on paella that had a few pieces of asparagus that was not good at all. It was in a lot of liquid (paella is supposed to be cooked until the liquid is absorbed) and was incredibly bland. Like there didn't seem to be any seasoning. I kept adding salt and pepper, but it still had no flavor. There was a completely plain piece of salmon on top of the paella. I hate wasting food, and it was expensive but I just couldn't get through it.
