What a treat. Gorgeously remodeled hotel, restaurant, and bar from the late 1800's. Great food, wine, and staff. I Will go back again to soak up the history

Had to show off the National and Lola's to an out of town visitor. We were in time for the brunch menu in the bar, from which you can "go classic breakfast or lunch". We chose lunch and had delicious sandwiches...crispy fried chicken (with or without sauerkraut) with perfect fries and focaccia bread with a generous portion of bacon, tomato, avocado and lettuce with salad on the side with yummy house dressing. Marc couldn't have been more attentive and gracious running the show. They better hope someone doesn't steal him away!! I will be back with visitors soon!

What a fantastic spot for dinner. Pork and chicken dinners with Brussel Sprouts and a salad. Live jazz band. The nicest staff.

Kyle was extremely attentive and helpful. He could pull your favorite drink out of a hat that’s 20x your expectations Travis puts in a glass exactly what you’re thinking of. I’ve never had a bad experience here. Everything is above and beyond expectations. And you can’t forget Freddy making sure everything is in order for the drinks to keep coming.

The best restaurant within 100 miles. The service is unbelievable. Every dish is packed with flavor and creativity. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. This isn’t your average dinner spot. It’s on a level that could easily compete with top restaurants in major cities around the world. The interior design ties it all together: elegant, cozy, and full of character. A place you won’t forget.

The mushroom pappardelle absolutely sings. Transcendent! And what a finely wallpapered environment for a religious fungi experience. 10/10

We arrived in Nevada city on a Thursday night and we were hungry for a music and dining experience. We found that at the National Exchange Hotel, Restaurant and Bar.What a delightful experience it turned out to be. The food was sublime. My husband had the lamb shank and I had their fish chowder. Both were top notch. The lamb shank was out of this world! I don’t think I’ve ever lamb shank as good as this was. The food was so good Thursday night that we decided to have breakfast at the same place. I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had his kids and gravy. And again the eggs Benedict was the best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a restaurant ever. The weight staff, Art, was courteous and ver professional. We look forward to our next day in Nevada city as we’ve had such a wonderful time! Oh, and Thursday night was Irish night, songs and instrumentals! So much fun!!! All of this on a Thursday night. What else could you ask for!!

Made reservations for Victorian Christmas and my spouse and I had a ball. Terrific food with decent portions, and a nice wine selection. We think this restaurant is top notch in the area and we are going to be booking to February very shortly. Servers were knowledgeable and very polite and the ambience was perfect. Thank you for a great evening!

The best meal I’ve had in a really long time. Kate was so kind and helpful. Literally every item we ordered was perfection. Dessert was phenomenal as well.

Very nice. All of us had delicious food. I had the national burger. Delish with a smokey taste that was really good and came with lots of fries. Nice places often just give you a small portion, and these were crispy and so very good. Service was really nice and attentive and so friendly. May have cravings from time to time for that burger.

We absolutely loved our experience at Lola Dining! The food and cocktails were fantastic, and their gluten-free burger is hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We can’t wait to visit again soon!

My daughter and I were so glad that we ended our stay in Nevada City at Lola's, the best meal we had during our getaway! The food was delicious perfection, and our server couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. Lola's will definitely be at the top of our list whenever we return.

My daughter had a half day so we decided to have lunch in Nevada City. I had walked through the newly remodeled National Hotel, but hadn’t eaten there yet. Perfect! It wasn’t crowded on a Friday, mid-day so we were seated right away. The service was pleasant and timely. The food was delicious! I had eggs benedict, my daughter had french toast. My daughter is VERY picky and she said it was the best she had ever had. She even loved my fried potatoes (which she normally doesn’t like, at all). The atmosphere is elegant and beautiful. We’ll be back.

Lola at the National Exchange Hotel is a revelation. I've been to my fair share of great restaurants, but this is one of the few that has truly blown me away. The lamb risotto is a thing of beauty. The lamb is cooked to perfection, and the risotto is creamy and flavorful. The whole dish is a symphony of flavors, and it's one of the best risottos I've ever had. But it's not just the food that's exceptional. The service is also top-notch. The atmosphere at Lola is also very special. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful old building, and the dining room is intimate and inviting.

Amazing venue and food. Service was excellent, smooth, perfect. Food was even better. Our “least best” thing was fantastic. Humboldt dog salad, walnut “pate” (more like hummus, but inspired us to think of new ways to use), colcannon, broccolini (delicious) and the budino. Sigh. I wish it was marriageable. Nothing wrong, everything right.

We spent a Friday evening having steaks and cocktails. The ambiance was upscale and the waitress was fantastic.( A ribeye was 70 bucks, so it is on the expensive side)

I made reservations for late lunch. The restaurant is beautiful designed, table, napkins and silverware spotless. There were some flies bothering and we have to change our table. Food was tasty and well done.

Had breakfast here last year and it didn’t stand out too much. This year I tried their “This must be the place” drink and some appetizers (their Brussel Sprouts were delish). We came in again on a Saturday night & it was too full/ crowded & noisy. Tried another drink and I wished I had ordered the same one from last time. My son and I shared their brownie. It was good, paired with a stewed pear & classic vanilla ice cream. Will come back. And that drink was special

We are here for Brunch on Sunday and then we’re back for dinner the next night. The ambience is amazing and we had so much fun with the servers. For dinner we had the ribeye and salmon, both were cooked perfectly! This will definitely not be the last time we are here! I highly recommend for your next date night.

We've been to Lola 5 times and each time all of the dishes we've ordered have been absolutely delicious, fresh, cooked to perfection, presented beautifully, and priced fairly (actually better than many other dining venues in Nevada County). The dining room and bar are lovely, have great atmosphere. And the servers have always been professional and gracious, friendly. Our favorite restaurant for brunch, lunch, and dinner! P.S. The drinks are also divine.

Ask Loren to make you Loren’s Aperol cocktail. Amazing. Chef Alan is a gem! I love Lola and the vibe they create! Thursday Celtic night is worth checking out!

It's a wonderful place that never disappoints. I was in town for one day and had such a satisfying breakfast (eggs benedict) that I came back for dinner. The crowd at the bar were lively and in a good mood, kept that way by the DJ that provided just the right mix, then added to the atmosphere that didn't interfere with conversation. Again, the food was great, as were the drinks. Be sure to try the carrots and oyster ( not in one dish, of course!) appetizers.

This place had such a comfortable relaxing vibe. Drinks were made good and well priced. I had Mary's Fried Chicken with palmetto and green beans. Let me tell you something hunnie it was Amazing. My partner had Pork tenderloins with purple yams and it was more than delicious. This by far is one of the Best restaurants I've eaten at. A1 FaSure😍

I was so impressed I went two nights in a row—Tuesday and Wednesday—and each visit felt like discovering Nevada City’s finest dining experience. Tuesday night came with an unexpected treat: a jazz musician at the piano, filling the room with warm, soulful notes that wrapped perfectly around the meal. But honestly, both nights were exceptional. The hostess and wait staff were attentive, gracious, and consistently above and beyond, the kind of service that makes you feel genuinely welcomed rather than simply served. And that roasted chicken… unforgettable. It was easily the most flavorful, expertly prepared roasted chicken I’ve ever tasted. Moist, tender meat. Perfectly crisped skin. A seasoning blend that made every bite sing. The portion was enormous—half a chicken—resting over beautifully balanced greens and paired with some of the best house-made pickles I’ve had anywhere. I treated myself to a cocktail and dessert, too. The olive-oil cake was a dream: impossibly moist, subtly fragrant, and finished with a light syrup that added the perfect touch of sweetness. Every element of the plate felt intentional and artfully crafted. After dining up and down all of Highway 49, Lola in Nevada City was the best culinary experience of my entire adventure. I would genuinely drive 300 miles just to savor it again. It was that good!!!

Dinner here was such a special and memorable experience! Our server was kind enough seat us in a comfortable booth. Our server was so helpful in making suggestions. The decor and ambiance is so elegant but also warm and inviting. Food was spectacular!! We had oysters, very salad, chowder, steak and pork tenderloin. So delicious!! And the price is not exorbitant, given the quality of food. Would love to return.

Located in the historical National Exchange Hotel in Nevada City, California, Lola's bar is the real deal. An homage to the notorious Lola Montez (read her fascinating bio in my photos), it holds up as a modern day friendly speakeasy. You can grab a beer, craft cocktail, and/or order food from the kitchen that's inspired and delish. The bartenders and staff are really wonderful but be aware that on weekends and especially special events in NC days, this bar is a popular place and gets very crowded, and the kitchen/dining room is a long walk from there, so kindly be patient with the servers and enjoy the atmosphere. Super friendly vibe. If you want to feel like you time travelled back to the California Gold Rush, check out Lola's.

Great menu full of delicious food! Service was excellent and attentive. Specialty cocktails are bold, well blended and refreshing. We had a large group that raved about their appetizers and meals. Atmosphere is elegant without being stiff. Wonderful evening!

Lola is hands down one of the best fine dining experiences I have ever had. So good I've already done it thrice! The food is exceptional, the service is professional and the ambiance is incredible. Sometimes the loud energy from the bar can carry over into the restaurant, but it's not too terrible. I absolutely recommend the steak frites, Brussels sprouts and foccacia. I brought my partner and brother here when he was in town and they were absolutely blown away by the food. My brother initially ordered the pasta, but they burnt the sauce and advised him they'd have to make him something else. They comped his meal and he ended up with the steak frites, also. It was probably for the best because the steak is phenomenal. Aside from the fine dining experience, the bar is also incredible with decadent drinks and occasional live music.

Absolutely incredible. The food was insane, the vibes were immaculate and our server was wonderful. Cannot wait to go back. We had a large group of 12 and the private room was perfect. Loved the family style meal and we all keep talking about several dishes. Also the way they packed our leftovers impressed us which was a cool last touch point the next day.

Outstanding dinner and cocktails. We enjoyed the fried chicken with fingerling potatoes and the rib eye, both were well prepared and delicious. We brought our own wine in for a modest corkage fee. Our server was friendly and engaging. We sat in the dining room near the bar in a red velvet booth with photos of Lola on the walls... She was quite the character in her day.

We had the 2 for 80 menu. It was excellent. Truly, there were new tastes in every bite. We chose the olive oil cake for desert..DO NOT miss it. The pork tenderloin with a brown butter sauce was perfectly moist, pink and melted in your mouth. It was over a whipped purple sweet potatoes mash and it too was outstanding.(And I do not like purple sweet potatoes.) But this was perhaps a blend of beet juice and pumpkin? An excellent value that did not disappoint!

Really cool place in a really cool little California town. Live music, the nite we were there, they had a fabulous jazz band. They also have a beautiful bar, cozy seating and rooms upstairs.

My husband and I ate here twice during our weekend getaway stay at the National Exchange Hotel (where Lola is housed). We had a delicious dinner and even better brunch the next day. Menus are solid and tasty. The best thing we had for dinner was actually the brussels sprouts appetizer/side, which were clearly very fresh and cooked perfectly without being charred or overwhelmed with seasoning. The ribeye was decent, but I think the produce is really the star here. Both brunch and dinner prices were more than reasonable. My husband pointed out that IHOP costs more for breakfast than a fancy place like this. The dining room has a wonderful retro glam feel without being stuffy. The night we had dinner, a band was playing on the bar side, which provided for nice ambience without it being too loud on the dinner room side. Service is attentive and warm, which really added to the experience. We would love to come back next time we are in Nevada City.

Our group of 4 had a good walk in experience for a busy Thursday night. We ordered all of the small plates, clam chowder, brussel sprouts, focaccia and green beans. Wow clam chowder was hearty and delicious. And yep, no bacon for us pesty pescetarians. My husband enjoyed the pork chops. It was a huge serving. The only dish that did not appeal to us was the burrata cheese with pomegranate, pistachio and persimmons. It was hmmm not good. The hard texture of the raw large slices of persimmon overwhelmed the soft burrata.

M
Matthew Gudenius

Good ambiance/decor and the cocktails are unique and reasonably priced. We also got a few small dishes to share, including ancho/spiced carrots (delicious and cooked perfectly), crispy potatoes (could have been more flavorful or come with a better sauce, but the portion was ample!), and focaccia bread (doesn't seem much like the texture of focaccia, but was a warm, fresh loaf and very tasty!)

R
Rod T.

The food was delicious, and the service was more than adequate. The reasons for only four stars is that the place was really noisy, one of our drinks was made incorrectly (we had two She's Not Impressed cocktails; one had bourbon in it, one didn't), and the prices seemed a bit steep. Don't get me wrong. Go to Lola Dining...the food is fantastic!

This restaurant is located in Nevada, city's beautiful downtown. It is part of the national hotel on pine Street, and despite the high reviews and ratings the restaurant has received, we really wanted to try it because it looked like such a beautiful establishment. The good reviews for the dining was only a plus. We had originally planned to have brunch here on Saturday, and although we were able to make online reservations when we arrived on that same day, we were disappointed to find out that the establishment was closed most likely due to the Mardi Gras parade that was planned for the downtown that afternoon. Our desire to experience the restaurant was large enough that we decided to get reservations for the Sunday brunch as we were preparing to leave Nevada City to end our weekend getaway. The Lola restaurant is to the left of the national hotels lobby. The environment looks historically classical and beautiful like you would expect to see in a Hollywood movie. Lots of wood, beautiful settings, lovely lighting, and a feel of Elegance. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and we're pleased to find that they were able to seat us. The restaurant was not full at the time so it wasn't much of a stretch, but they were still very polite about it all and very accommodating. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and the Nash hash. Both came with an order of eggs for which we both ordered the over easy. I will point out that they're handling of over easy eggs was both skillful and tasty. The Nash hash was brisket with potatoes. This dish was good, but I will comment just to be picky because it's only fair. The brisket was tasty but I would characterize it as a bit on the dry side. The dish also comes with horseradish shavings which for me sets it apart from other similar dishes, but I would have preferred to have a dish. Without this. I could taste how this could make the dish unique and memorable and different from other restaurants who have a similar dish, and although the flavor was overall light, I feel that the dish could be better without it if the focus was on juicier brisket. I can't comment too much on the biscuits and gravy but I can say the gravy did taste good. The most notable thing about the biscuit and gravy order was that the server came out to check on how we liked our food, and we had some reservations about the biscuit and gravy dish, but my wife didn't want to particularly say or criticize. For her part, the hostess encouraged her to share her feelings about it because the establishment was focused on ensuring that she had a good experience and even went as far as to say that the dish could be taken back, made again, or that she could order something completely different. I loved this. An establishment that cares enough about the customer's experience that they offer at the server level. The option to consider these alternatives. My wife declined and decided to continue on with the dish, and by the end of the meal felt that she had a good experience and that the dish was good. That would infer that it wasn't perfect, but she did not regret staying with it. The portions were a very good size and plenty to fill us up. They even have their own house made Tabasco sauce. Coming from the most well-known classic Tabasco sauce on the market, in comparison, I would say that this had the same kind of taste overall but a bit on the lighter side, and nowhere near as spicy. This can be good or bad depending on your preferences for Tabasco sauce, but I found this to be a good offering for a homemade experience and for an average pallet that may come through. Although we largely decided to eat here due to the beauty of the establishment, the food was also worth the visit. The prices are not high relative to where we traditionally eat in the Bay area, stephan finer dining and higher prices than surrounding eating establishments still seem like a bargain to us. I will admit, that even for a local I could argue that the beauty of the national hotel and the Lola restaurant would be worth paying a little more.

The vibe is great in the bar and restaurant. Great lighting and decor. They have a well thought out selection of mocktails and the alcoholic drinks are good. I’ve been to eat a few times and am consistently underwhelmed by the food.

The first time I went here, everything was immaculate (except for a steak that came out super salty.. but that got fixed pronto). THe vibes, the cocktails, the service and the food was really really good. I swear I had the best anchovies of my life here... i know know, that sounds like an odd thing to pick out of the line up, but I swear the caesar was like, off the charts because of those anchovies... I went back again a year or two later and it felt just slightly less magical.. service was a bit off that night, food was a little underwhelming, and we were tucked in a TINY two-top right under the air conditioning vent, so it was a little... uncomfortable. But overally, I dig the place and I'll likely go back next time I'm venturing up to the Yuba....

We went over Christmas holiday with family. Great location. Food outstanding! Perfectly cooked ribeye steak, lamb, and potatoes, fantastic appetizers. Beet salad, carpaccio! Great wine, great beer. -1 star for the male bartender with pony tail loudly slam dunking every empty bottle into the trash can. Its an expensive dinner, not the end of a Nirvana concert.

The chicken lacked crispy skin but they had great carrots. Soup was a dud, lacking flavor. Amazing Mezcal cocktail. Super friendly and very accommodating staff. Weird that if you try to order in advance they just make you eat at the bar in their plastic containers which is very wasteful. ("Because the manager said so.") I'd come back for the music and drinks, but not the food.

We made dinner reservations at 8pm and were sat around 8:10. The staff were all polite and the ambience was lovely with dim lighting, gold rush area decor and it was clean. The issue was the food. My husband ordered the prime rib dinner and his steak was a little over done in the center but the potatoes were excellent. I had bad luck. I first ordered the pappardelle pasta but was told they ran out, so I ordered the lamb shank. The poor waitress came back and said that ran out as well as the sauce my husband ordered. I then ordered the pork- I sent it back because the accompanying mashed root vegetables were sickly sweet, akin to baby food, and the pork wasn't seasoned to eat alone. Then they brought me steak frites but the steak was burned and bitter, basically unedible, probably because they were rushing. Sent that back, by this point it was 9pm, my husband was done eating and we were tired. I asked for the chowder which was watery, unflavorful and fishy. At that point I asked for the check. The manager did comp the meals I sent back and our cocktails which was nice, but the overall experience was frustrating. I wouldn't come back.

Horrible experience! I ended up providing water and drinks to my table we had 2 birthdays going on. Limited menu and terrible food. We walked out and will never return. Over priced with horrible service and food!

Worst food for a long while, classic tourist street bad experience, don’t come. The steak is the only one matching the chain texas roadhouse standard (but 2X price). Everything else is embarrassingly bad, the chickpea paniess eggplant is the worst, the shrimp is $20 with five supermarket shrimps, the chowder is okay but the onion soup i can smell the ketchup they are adding.
