The food is superlative. The outdoor seating was pleasant on a mild fall evening. (We would not have wanted to sit inside, however, because the music was blaring. This is such a bizarre contrast to the extreme delicacy of the food dishes. This seems to be the modern trend among younger people, but oldsters like me would like to be able to conduct a conversation over dinner without having to shout and cup an ear. I would love for this place to be a regular, but would hesitate to come in colder weather when need to sit indoors.)

This place isn't far from where I am staying, so I've frequented here a few times. The quality of ingredients is top notch, and their drink selections are both wide and strong. My go-to is the octupus and shrimp ceviche - fresh, acidic, and flavorful. Octupus and chorizo tacos are another one of my favorites. As a side, I'd reach for the street corn off the cob every time. Two issues I've had are when it comes to choozing tacos and cost. You can mix and match the basic tacos, but when it comes to the special tacos, you get two and can not mix and match. Then the cost is something to consider. It was almost enough to give this place 4 stars, but the quality won out.

If you are looking for the best Mexican food in CT, this is definitely the place to go. They use fresh organic food and make their own tortillas, ice cream, and more. I like that they have things on the menu that offer new experiences for most, like banana ice cream, which I would highly recommend! Great atmosphere and service as well! I only took pictures of our desserts, I didn’t think of it sooner, but the presentation of all our food and drinks was very nice.

Awesome restaurant. Their menu has great choices across the board and I noticed much of their menu can be made vegetarian. The service was great as well. Fun interior design too!

Took our son for birthday dinner and drinks. Had a great corner table with fresh air since the walls are open. Louder industrial style place, but it works. Good food and drinks. Service was great for how busy it was. Parking is getting lucky with street parking. Price was a bit high in my opinion, but we would go again.

Camacho Garage Mexican restaurant offers excellent authentic Mexican cuisine in a cozy, modern atmosphere. While it is pricier than some other restaurants, the quality of the food and dining experience set it apart. The menu offers traditional dishes with bold flavors and eye-catching presentations. I particularly enjoyed the Strawberry Mojito, which was fantastic. The charming ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating, a fire place and rustic decor complete with comfortable seating, adds to the cozy and intimate feel of the restaurant.

Really enjoyed Camacho Garage, from their food and the atmosphere. Each visit, I've had a great experience, and enjoyed the flavorful food and drinks. Parking is a bit tough, but overall the spot is great!

Excellent culinary experience in a very nice ambiance. Service was also prompt and friendly. We had a few different plates and drinks and all of them delivered on taste and presentation. I don't think you can go wrong. Highly recommended.

The food is really good here! Didn’t like the ceviche’s. I wish it had more variety of seafood. I loved the duck it was smoked and had a sweet taste to it. The tacos do not come with any side and the portion is small so just be aware. If you want to be full will recommend ordering a side with all of your dishes.

My sisters and I went here for the first time and we'll definitely be back. This place is a whole vibe! Great customer service and great food. The food was amazing. The decor had me in aweeee!! This restaurant is a 10/10 if you haven't been you need to go. Thank me later😁

We loved everything about this restaurant. The atmosphere, the service, and especially the food. Made a reservation using OpenTable to celebrate my wife's birthday. It is less than 10 minutes from Downtown New Haven. Parking is limited. Might have to park off-street. Our sever was Carlos (did a great job). We ordered a "Camacho Guacamole" with corn tostadas. It was freshly made in front of us. Probably the best I have ever had. The rest of our order consisted of "Birria Pizzadilla" (family plate) and "Chorizo and Octopus Tlayuda". For dessert we had the "Churros". With soft drinks it came up close to $140.0 It was worth every single penny.

What a lovely pleasant place! We dined here while we were in New Haven. The service was very good, the food was very fresh ( you must order the watermelon salad), original and delicious!! Loved that when you order guac, they make you a bowl of it in front of you fresh! Our server Luis was charming. Thank you!

We stopped in at the suggestion of our friend and we absolutely enjoyed our experience. We started with an order of fresh guacamole and chips. The guacamole was made table side. It was so fresh and ready. I had an order of the Arabe which was excellent. Two tacos made with a very smoky type of carne asada. My girlfriend had the chilaquiles which she absolutely loved. We definitely loved this place and will be back for other items.

We went here for my niece's birthday & it was a very interesting & fun place. The food was really good. The food was a little on the pricey side but well worth it. I ordered twcos...you can order 2 different tacos for $10. I also ordered a side of roasted vegetables & they were amazing. The others in our group ordered different dishes & the food was amazing. The kids got the hotdog.with curly fries & they served Hummel hotdogs which they were very happy with. The quesidilla dinner looked good. I don't remember what my sister ordered but I will definitely go there again.

Camacho is a great authentic Mexican restaurant. The guacamole is not just guacamole. It has so much flavor and is so tasty.

Great tacos, can't go wrong with a 2 for $10. I got the veggie tacos and the fried cod taco. Both were flavorful. Vibe was nice, great music and servers were cool!

Camacho Garage is a traditional Mexican restaurant with a modern atmosphere. The staff is friendly. They serve very high-quality food. The guacamole was excellent, and the carnitas was fantastic. Also, there is Mexican Coca-Cola on the beverage menu.

Great food and drinks. The familia tacos were more than enough for 3 people

Our first time here, date night with the hubby! This place is AMAZING! I was skeptical at first because it took forever for us to be recognized and seated. Everyone was super busy to notice we walked in. However, the service and food made up for that initial awkward moment. We ordered guacamole, Octopus Chorizo, Birria Tacos. The guacamole is literally out if this world. I pride myself on making the best guacamole, I have a few favorite restaurants but this beats any that I have ever tasted or made. Incredible. I can just go for guacamole and chips. My palet is dancing...I have not eaten food so perfectly made, unique, flavorful and satisfying food in the longest of time. Mexican, yet with the most yummy refreshing twist. As we walked out we grabbed a handful of the tiny cute mint gum. Instead of mint. Love it!! We will definitely be back and have to bring our kiddos next time.

The best street corn i’ve ever had. I had chicken tacos and guacamole, delicious 🤤 Our waitress Maddy is super friendly and nice . She know every ingredients for the food like she cooks them, was very helpful. I don’t live in the area. If i ever come back i will come back to this place. Food is super fresh and tasty. Highly recommended.

First time here and tried it based on a Facebook group recommendation. Food was EXCELLENT! It’s a bit pricey, but the food was VERY good. We got the CAMARON ALA DIABLA, TINGA TOSTADA, FRIED SWEET PLANTAINS & MEXICAN STREET CORN. I got the Tostada and it was flavorful and served me well as my entree. The wife got the Camaron ala Diabla in lettuce wraps. She was concerned about the heat, but found them to be pleasantly spicy. The plantains and Mexican Corn were surprising and delicious. Slightly different take on the plantain and we loved it. The Mexican Street Corn was served on the cob, on a stick and was AWESOME. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and tried her best to make low carb recommendations to my wife who is pre-diabetic. Nice local draft beer selection for beer geeks like me. The $14 margarita was nothing special, so I’d pass in the future, but would certainly come back to Camacho Garage in the future. Love the space, music and vibe too. We are inside, but there is a nice outside space as well. The music and volume of chatter is vibrant but not too much and it wasn’t difficult for us to converse and enjoy our time together. Give Camacho a try unless you simply don’t want to pay a bit more for “Mexican” food. But this ain’t your typical Mexican food!!

We really like coming here for happy hour or a quick bite. Meals are good too, it just gets a little loud and busy in there which isn’t my scene. Sometimes service is a little slow during the slow hours I prefer, and if you get seated too close to the kitchen I think it smells bad, but that’s just in the interest of full disclosure (and maybe they can fix that?). Overall I do recommend the Garage, the white sangria and ancho curly fries are especially nice happy hour treats!

Authentic Mexican food, but with a twist. Super yummy! Gourmet. Great service. Nice ambiance. We just loved it. This was our first time here, but we are definitely coming back.

We got chips/salsa and the made at table Guac as apps. Wife and daughter ordered 2 tacos each - one chicken and one fish. They are loaded up and seasoned well. I had the Posole Verde (photo). I’ve never had this and found it quite tasty. The food was delicious and filling. Service was very good, and always with a smile. It does get busy - make reservations.

Super cool bar atmosphere. The staff was amazing. Our bartender Michelle was awesome. They have TVs at the bar if sports is your thing. I had the Aguachile. It was delicious but a little smaller portion than I expected. I'm a spoiled girl from Southern California though so my expectations were a little skewed. My niece had the Birria tacos and they were delicious.... I had a Stohli Razz and my niece had a Geronimo Margarita. They were both perfect. The music was great too! I highly recommend this place for a night out for any occasion!

An off the beaten path hidden gem of New Haven! The drinks, the FOOD, the cool layout, the chill vibe, it's really a great spot. Great outdoor seating options while still being covered with the way the garage doors open. Went here twice, once for lunch with my wife and then three year old, and again for a late night dinner after a concert with my wife and had a great time big times. Very family friendly but also a great bar vibe, the place is huge so it worked out great.

Really good place with a rustic feel. My food was pleasantly spicy. They had a little trouble identifying which order was assigned to a given person. Only complaint was the IPA WAS FLAT. Food and atmosphere make the experience.

Lovely upscale Mexican fusion restaurant in the Westville neighborhood of New Haven. The interior design and decor of the restaurant is fabulous. The drink menu is diverse. The food is delicious. I always enjoy when I spend the evening at Camacho Garage.

Fantastic place. Such cool details. Went there for dinner. And everything was delicious. We had the pork belly, chicken al pastor and pulpo and chorizo tacos all were Fantastic. The margaritas were top notch. I also had a Paloma that was good just not great. My husband had a mojito and it was really great as well. Overall I will be returning.

We went here or new years eve and the place was fantastic. Food was good but the desserts were great. What I loved about the place was the hospitality, they truly go out of the way to make the customers truly feel like God! Loved the experience !!

The atmosphere is so fun. There is a large bar with table service inside as well as a covered heated bar with table service. One section has a wood stove. It was cozy and toasty warm. It probably opens up in the warmer months. I loved the garage vibe. The food is fresh and tastes amazing. We had the guacamole and salsa. It came with fresh corn tortillas. The salsa dips were delicious, a smoky poblano, green tomatollo, and a very spicy red pepper, they were all delicious. I had the Gringa, pork layered between fried tortillas, refried beans, cheese, avocado, topped with a fried egg. It was amazing! My friends had the shrimp taco and the chicken Tinga, they said everything was great. They offer a brunch menu, I believe on the weekend. The prices were reasonable and the portions were enormous.

This is a great place for brunch in New Haven! Service was friendly, the standouts for me were the desserts. We got the creme brule, tiramisu, and tres leches. All were really good and had great presentation. Would recommend!

Stopped in after the Monster Truck show with the family and had an awesome experience! We tried the tamarind wings, Mexican street corn, dos al pastor taco bowl, Mexican hot dog, and taco de birria — everything was fresh and full of flavor. The birria taco was the standout, but the al pastor is definitely a must-have if you love tacos. Great drinks, fun atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and welcoming (especially with the kids). If you’re looking for a night out with good food and drinks, Camacho Garage is a must-try!

A
Ana West

The food is great but some of portions are small for the price. We got the Queso Flameado (great taste but small portion for the price - the presentation was great but the bowl made it look bigger but the portion was small), the Birria Pizzadilla (amazing but very expensive, we go to this place in NYC and the same item there is half of the price), and the Birria tacos (delicious). Overall, the food was good but with some weird things - no chips for the Queso. Service was great and the place is very nicely decorated.

L

The food was the bomb its on the pricier end... but at least the portions are also heavy and not skimpy... the duck drumblets were our favorite even though there was something plastic in the sauce which would usually turn us off.. but they were sooo goo we finished it... the loaded fries with LOBSTER was another favorite it was the most expensive thing we purchased but it was also very much worth it. As for our regular entrées meh. I think its bc the apps set our expectations high also there wasn't a difference in portions between apps and entrée. The birira tacos were a big let down wouldn't recommend. You don't get complimentary chips and guacamole if you sit at the bar which was a let down. And the hostess was very rude. Honestly she was the nail in the 4star review. Bc as previously mentioned the apps were definitely worth it and well I will saybthe ambiance is nice as well.

5/24/23 Update: dined in this evening and everything was perfect! Enchiladas were maybe the best I've ever had. Guacamole was seasoned perfectly and not overly smashed. Hibiscus spritz YUM! Food was tasty and fresh. Prices are rather high for small portions. I recommend the vegetarian taco ($11)- served naked, no taco shell (lettuce, grains, beans, greens) as this is a better value overall and provides a larger quantity of food. The street corn toppings were good, but the corn itself was completely tasteless.

S
Sean Christian

Service was slow upon arrival we had to ask for someone to come to our table. Food was overpriced based on quantity 18 dollars for guacamole that only filled half the bowl. Food was much better the last time we went. 200 dollars for 8 tacos a rice bowl and 3 sides of street corn and 2 sides of plantains. With tip 240 that's insane.

S

Delivery order was pretty good. The horchata was far and away the standout and the best I've ever had! Can't recommend enough. Rice and beans were good. Fish tacos were okay but a little lacking. Overall, good meal though a little on the pricey side for the portion

N
Nick

It was fine, but too expensive. Our server Carlos was fantastic, and the ambiance was great. The drinks were delicious, but about $5 overpriced each. The food tasted pretty good, but the portions should have been bigger for the price. It was disappointing after wanting to try this place for a while.

We had a reservation for 3 on a Friday evening. We got there early but they are popular! We didn't get seated until maybe 10 minutes after our reservation. In the mean time we had some drinks which were good. The place has an inside and an outside. The decor is awesome and there's loud music playing. After getting seated, we ordered some appetizers. The queso was amazing! Probably my favourite thing we ate. The fries we got were good too. We got the Al pastor tacos, lamb flautas, and the Mexican street corn. The corn was pretty good, nothing to call home about. The flautas were also great. The Al Pastor tacos were very disappointing- super try and tough. I didn't finish it. Unfortunately, I have to take a few stars off due to the service. After we got our dishes, we didn't see our server again until she brought the check, which took about an hour to get and asking 3 times for it. It was really frustrating to be sort of ignored for an hour. I'm hoping that was a one time thing so perhaps I'll visit again.

K
Katrina Garcia

It's a good place for food and drinks. However, we ordered one of the brunch menu items with shrimp on it. There were only 3pieces of shrimp. The waiter was good enough to give us more. We waited a long time for our food to come. The Mexican corn was okay.

K
Kathy D

I think this restaurant has a lot of potential but for me it didn’t live up to it on our visit. Many great options on the menu and food was presented beautifully but the flavor was missing. Bloody maria tasted like you were drinking a glass of tomato juice nothing special. The guac was fine but lacking spice and salt. The croquettes and chilaquiles were both served close to cold, barely warm. Both would have been tasty if served hot. The chile relleno had a unique flavor combination that was very good but the sauce served on it was also cold and sort of ruined the dish. The churros were probably the best bite. Served piping hot and crunchy.

R
Robyn Alves

Food and atmosphere were amazing but our waitress Amy was not very attentive and brought our food and drinks out at all different times. She was more focused on flirting with a married man then accommodating the rest of the costumers at our 7 person reservation.

C
Cal Daniels

The food was overall good. The rice and beans and the plantain were both delicious and the tacos were solid too. The problem was the shrimp and octopus ceviche and the octopus and pork taco. The octopus was bad and ruined both. We sent back the ceviche and explained why. They did apologize but left it on the bill. Ive heard great things and the rest of the food was pretty good but $17 for rotten ceviche was too much.

Nice location. Well decorated and spaced well. Indoor and outdoor dining. Drinks are strong and good. Food is an acquired taste if not familiar. No bottle water. Waiter was slow server my group, he was not attentive. Outside side sitting was a mood.

1st time here. Walked in & immediately felt the place had a fun, lively atmosphere. Music was authentic to the restaurant. Great vibe! Came during happy hour (HH). Tried the HH chicken tinga tostada & street corn (off cob). Tostada had a nice depth of flavor, chicken was tender, but the tostada itself was extremely crisp/hard (to the point of being overdone? - not burnt though). The street corn was a letdown. Portion was very small. The corn was still in sheets, not kernels, from cutting it off the cob, great, so you know it's fresh, but hard to eat & the corn to seasoning ratio was off, with the seasoning taking the spotlight and oddly, it tasted & looked like there were bacon bits in it! Weird!! You have to try the guacamole when you go to a Mexican restaurant...right!!? Theirs came in a cool looking bowl w/6 large round chips. A+ on presentation. Guac was super creamy, but lacked seasoning, even after a squeeze of lime. Had high hopes too - what a bummer. Entrees were the Al Pastor & fish tacos. I recommend the al pastor. They had a nice, mildly sweet flavor w/a little heat. An abundance of meat, which was tender, juicy & flavorful. The fish taco was the opposite. It had no flavor whatsoever. The slaw added a little flavor, but not enough to make the taco memorable - only saving grace was that the fish was cooked well, but was still very boring/lacking any taste/flavor. The rice & beans were just ok, but again, no flavor. Their plantains were excellent! Perfectly cooked & caramelized nuggets of sweet goodness. They didn't even need the crema & queso fresco. All the food we ate came out hot & fresh tasting. Onto drinks...try a mojito!!! You won't be disappointed - they're delish! Sweet, not too minty. Skip the margarita. It was super basic & tasted like a mix. Also, the size of the drinks vs. the cost is absurd. $13 for what looks like a 4oz glass is ludacris. Our server was Maddie. She was friendly & super quick w/apps & drinks, but after that, she sort of disappeared. It felt like we were forgotten...like since we weren't buying anymore drinks, we weren't a priority. We waited a VERY long time for our entrees, although, I have to say, the food was hot when it came out, which was great. The long wait put a slight damper on the night. I dislike being rushed, but hate being forgotten. Total cost =$120 w/tip With the price tag & lack of flavor, nothing wowed us enough to want to come back.

I would NEVER eat here again. I walked in to the bar and was ignored for 5 minutes. I was approached by a gentleman to take my order. I ordered 2 shrimp tacos on flour tortillas. The bartender was a bit rude once he found out I wouldn’t be dining in but was a to go order. He told me my order would be ready in 10 minutes. I waited around maybe 30/40 minutes. I paid $20 for 2 shrimp tacos that only had 3 small shrimp in them each and did not give me flour tortillas but gave me blue corn tortillas. Also the hot sauce they gave me on the side (which I did not ask for) spilled inside all over the tacos. I wish I could give 0 stars

This review is as honest as reviews can get. The food was DISGUSTING. I gagged whilst trying to force feed myself the enchiladas that tasted absolutely awful. For my elongated stay there the waiter completely vanished as I sat waiting for the bill, with my appetite completely gone because of how gross everything was. The guacamole was bland, and had no flavor. The chips were stale. This place definitely cares more about presentation than the actual quality and service they have to offer. Once I got the bill after 30 minutes I was met with the utter HORROR of what it contained. 18 dollars for GUACAMOLE. Guacamole that wasn’t even good. You can buy guacamole for half the price at a grocery store and get better quality. I’m so upset about this guacamole specifically because the waiter offered it to me and my sister after we gave back the menu. I didn’t even want the guacamole but after the waiter kept asking if we wanted any I felt obligated to say yes. Had I known the price of a small bowl of guacamole with comically large chips I would not have ever considered saying yes. In what world is it okay to not disclose the price of a side when offering it to customers? I felt taken advantage of. When my sister and I said “we weren’t made aware of the price of the guacamole, is this a mistake?” The waiter scoffed and replied “That’s just our price.” How hard is it to mention the price of chips and guacamole when offering it to customers?? This is unacceptable. The guacamole itself was pricier than the other food I purchased, which I find ridiculous. I’ve never written a review for a restaurant before, mainly because I’ve never had such a bad experience. The only good service I experienced was the young woman at the front doors. Writing this now I still feel nauseous, the few bites I could get down haven’t sat right at all. I will not be coming back.
