I’m posting this review in winter because I am wishing I WAS AT BALLARD’s RIGHT NOW!!!specifically eating the best lobster roll I had all year! I love Ballard’s! I love taking the ferry there and feeling like I am on vacation for the day. Ballard’s is more than a regular beach day. It’s a fun party with a resort feel. The slushies are perfect for a hot day (even more perfect when you get them in a fun cup) and the live music on the beach elevates the entire experience, creating an unbeatable atmosphere that feels like a celebration without ever being overwhelming. You have to check out Ballards if you are in Rhode Island. And when you go, get the lobster roll!!
Perfect spot to grab a meal before heading back to the mainland! The chicken lettuce wraps were a fantastic starter, and the entrées were just as delicious—I left already wanting to come back. Pair that with the gorgeous beachside view, and this place is the ultimate place on Block Island for dining!
The lobster was divine—so fresh, caught the same day right from the ocean. And the scallops from Alaska? Absolutely unforgettable. The service was outstanding, and everything came together perfectly. If you’re looking for the best seafood on the island, Ballard’s is the place. The view is breathtaking, with a refreshing ocean breeze and stunning turquoise water. There’s even live music—downstairs, a talented guitarist sets the mood just right. I wholeheartedly recommend it—hands down the BEST beach spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the island. A must-visit!
When most people hear of Ballard’s Beach Resort, they associate it with getting off the ferry and day drinking out of pineapples on the beach. You can’t beat the lively music, crazy waves, and stunning views. Sadly, if you’re not staying over on the island, then you probably would not know if they offer an amazing dinner nightly from 7 to 10 PM is worth way more than they’re charging. I ordered the fillet special purchase $19 which included filet mignon, fingerling, potatoes, and asparagus. While the portion size didn’t allow for leftovers, it was plenty to fill me up after a day of walking around and beaching it. When our server Diana came over to the table to take our order, I explained my allergies. She wrote everything down and personally spoke to the bartender and the chef who were both willing to accommodate my needs. I love a good dirty martini, but because of my allergy to red peppers, I often cannot have a dirty martini at restaurants because the olive juice has had olives with pimentos in them or the olives have been placed with cherries which I’m also allergic to. Diana went above and on by securing a jar of green olives that did not have pimentos and had the bartender make my drinks using that. Talk about exceptional service! When the food was brought out, Shawn, the manager, personally came over to see to it that I was all set. He told me how the head chef at Ballard’s personally saw to it that everything was safe for me in the kitchen. He also conversed easily with my husband and me and have us smiling and laughing in no time. That’s a rare gift! Ballards is very lucky to have him as a manager representing their establishment. If you’re looking for something other than filet mignon, you’ll be happy to know that they also offer a lobster special from 7 to 10 PM that is $20. We saw quite a few plates go by, and let me just tell you they were the biggest lobsters I’ve ever seen!!! My husband and I will be back for sure. He loved his gluten free Mac and cheese with shrimp, and I loved my filet! The sunset dinner deals will have us and our friends coming back. This genius deal, stunning view, delicious food, focused attention to accommodating allergies, and exceptional service have turned us into new customers!
Rented a cabana for the first time recently. What a treat! Wonderful amenities and our server, Ranz, from the Philippines, was amazing! So polite, got our orders right, was prompt and friendly. He was literally running across the beach all day. Great job and attitude. Thank you for making our best day even better!
You can spot Ballard’s long before you reach Block Island. Those iconic blue cabanas are the sure sign you’re in for a true VIP experience. I’ve been coming here for more than a decade, and if I had to sum it up in one word it would be: consistency. The service? Always top notch and reliable. The food? Exceptional every time. The vibe? Consistently perfect. For me, Ballard’s is more than a destination, it’s personal. My husband and I were married here 11 years ago, so staying on the property is always special. The rooms are clean, spacious, and carry a breezy, tropical feel that instantly relaxes you. What makes Ballard’s truly stand out, though, is the owner, Steve. He’s in a class of his own. I swear this man never leaves! He’s always walking around, making sure everything is just right. On this trip, when I checked in, Sharese (one of the hostesses) was helping me with my bags. I dropped something, looked up, and there was Steve, personally picking it up, walking me to my door, and welcoming me back. That’s who he is: hands-on, present, and genuinely committed to ensuring every guest feels appreciated. Now let’s talk about the food, OMG! I live for the lobsters here. This season, Steve introduced The Sunset Special. A whole lobster or filet for just $20. Yes, $20! What a deal. On our second night, we had dinner for nine, six adults, and four out of six chose the lobster. We’re still talking about how good it was. Ballard’s is woven into our story, and every visit feels like coming home. Whether you’re stopping in for dinner, spending the day, or staying overnight, one thing is guaranteed, your presence will be valued, and you’ll leave already planning your return.
Couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my friend’s bachelorette! We rented a cabana, and I’m so glad because we had plenty of shade and space for our group of 6 to hang out. Having a buzzer for our waitress was a plus that I wasn’t expecting and definitely appreciated throughout the day. The food and drinks were great, and we were at ease seeing security nearby and keeping an eye on things. Would absolutely consider coming back to rent a cabana again for another beach day!
Really fun place to hang out at while you are on the island. You can sit inside or eat at tables ON the beach. Either way, it’s a great view and really relaxing. At night they have music so you can drink at the bar and listen. It’s easy to walk to from “town”. I had a frozen mudslide. It was delicious. Just remember though. It has alcohol in it! The food was good. The steak and lobster rolls were good. But you shouldn’t go for the quality of the food. You should go for the atmosphere and to enjoy what the place has to offer. Buy a shirt too!
Phenomenal location, service, food, and drinks! We felt welcomed from the second we arrived until the moment we left. Staff checked in on us regularly to make sure that we were satisfied. Our server G was attentive and outstanding! Food was fantastic! Drinks were fantastic! I cannot say enough about the positive experience we had.
Great meal at an unexpectedly, affordable price. This Block Island treasure allowed our family to enjoy an exceptional meal together after a day on the beach swimming and soaking up the sun by the sea.
This place is phenomenal. They’ve got everything. Multiple beach bars, beach service for drinks, huge indoor and outdoor areas, live stage. Rental of cabana and chairs. The food was great. 166$ for a 2 pound lobster , 1.5 lbs steamers , clam cakes , drinks, shots. Also included an 18% tip. So subtract that and that’s about 133$ for all of that.
Fantastic food with an island vibe. We felt like we were back in Jamaica with the views, music and atmosphere. We ate at a fancy pretentious restaurant for dinner the night before and Ballard's was by far way better! Two thumbs up! Looking forward to visiting again.
Great place for live music, food and drinks. Great vibes. Staff were attentive and friendly. It was great to be able to be on the beach there as well. Service came wherever you were, and were able to find you based on a flag pole they left you.
Best lobster roll I’ve ever had in all of New England, and I’ve lived in New England for 8 years. The drinks are very icy but if you’re looking for a beach getaway it is a great option!!!!
We had our June wedding at Ballard's and couldn't be more thrilled with how everything turned out. We had the ocean as our backdrop and it made our ceremony so romantic and magical. Steve, Yolanda and Ballard's staff was meticulous. They made sure everything was setup the way we discussed; from the name placard to the napkins and mini dinner menus. Everything was perfect. I literally had to do nothing for my wedding. I'm so glad we chose to have have our wedding at Ballards's.
Amazing day at Ballard’s Beach Resort. Great drinks, amazing drinks, food and music! Terrica our server was friendly and attentive. Thank you.
When you step off the ferry on Block Island, the choices are endless, but one of the best decisions you can make is to take a left and head straight toward Ballard's Beach. This spot truly has it all—tropical island vacation vibes, rentable chairs, cabanas, and umbrellas, along with live music that sets the perfect tone for a day of fun and relaxation. Whether you want to dance, chill, make new friends, or simply enjoy the incredible ocean views, Ballard's offers the perfect setting. Marked by its iconic blue umbrellas, Ballard's has been a Block Island staple for decades. Originally established in the 1950s, Ballard's started as a small beachside restaurant and bar but has since grown into one of the island's most popular destinations. The best part? It's free to get in, though they do have a strict no outside beverages policy, ensuring that guests can enjoy their day without a hitch. Ballard's is a must-visit on Block Island, offering everything you need for a perfect beach day in one convenient location. Whether you’re there for the music, the atmosphere, or just a great spot by the ocean, Ballard's delivers an unforgettable experience every time.
Had a great time with friends over lunch. Live music, sea view and great food. Enjoyed our time!
What a nice place, everything was perfect, I had the best weekend there, they came and bring your drink to the beach WOW. I felt I was in a top notch resort, I will definitely comeback.
There were great views. You definitely feel the breeze for sure. The changing rooms are alright Pretty rocky shore, standing on the edge of the water led to rocks buffeting the feet. Overall solid spot.
They had live music inside when I was there in June because it was cool that day but if it was warmer it would have been outside. The food is surprisingly very good. Never had issues and it is always very tasty. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was! I really like the sangria because it’s not just wine as there is definitely some type of liqueur in there. When it’s nice and hot outside it’s perfect to relax by the beach with a drink. Beach chairs and cabanas can be reserved but you can always bring your own towel and plop down by the beach and just order a drink or snack.
This place has the best “Lobster roll “ in Block island Ballards has lots of Meat perfectly toasted bun and sauce is perfection i been coming to Block island in years and never have i tasted their Lobster roll until today . Service is fast and friendly , ambiance is nice and relax thank you Ballards inn Beach you exceeded my expectations ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
We went last week 😇and I will be back again 😌a sea side restaurant 🙂they have a plenty of seafood options. Don’t forget to order fried calamari 😋
What a fabulous spot!!! We made a last-minute decision to grab lunch here, and it didn't disappoint. The lobster rolls were amazing!!! The atmosphere was awesome, and the live band had me dancing in my seat. Shoutout to Timmy Maia.
Second time at Ballards and it doesn’t fail to disappoint! Went there with my husband and had some great lobster. As always the staff is attentive and great at making sure all your needs are met. Peter was our server and he made sure we were taken care of. Highly recommend this stop to Block Island visitors.
We had good food here... it was expensive though... we ordered salad with almonds and cherries and goat cheese and it was delicious. Veg pasta (we asked you remove chicken) was also nice. Lobster roll was also good and shrimp pasta was delicious. Only disappointment was 27 USD pineapple drink... basically a cocktail served in pineapple... the pineapple looked so old (like bit rotten/not fresh) and it was 60%filled with ice so hardly anything to drink. For that price, it was a sheer disappointment. We mentioned it too but no rectification. Food was good... views was good drink was bad.. we spent 160 USD for 5 people had enough to eat for lunch and a bad drink. Overall a decent experience. But I would try another place next time.
This was my first time going to Block Island and I am blown away! It's absolutely beautiful! We stopped at Ballard's to finish our trip and eat lunch, this place is awesome! It's right on the beach and the food is delicious 😋 huge food menu and drink menu! I will absolutely be coming back. Rafael was super nice and made sure we had everything we needed.
I came here 2 times. They have a lot of options you can choose from. Amazing mudslide and I love the Miami vibes. Great taste!
I hadn't been to Block Island in years and what a treat it was to go back to Ballard's again. The island is beautiful and Ballard's is immediately to the left when leaving the ferry. I don't typically like beaches but I certainly like beaches that have Tiki huts and waitresses and waiters bring you drinks and food. There was a great band playing in the afternoon and people were really getting into it. I am definitely going back and definitely going back to Ballard's
Nothing beats a day on Block Island like sitting at Ballard's, getting drinks, listening to the perfect playlist and treating yourself to their wonderful food options. We had the most perfect day weather wise and our waiter was attentive and fun, talking to us about places he had been and recommending travel locations. We will most definitely be back!
Excellent food love the outdoor patio and Great service...Tons of drink options high bar
Sat outside with a great ocean view. Alexander was our wait person who gave us time to explore the menu, explained the dishes and made sure we had everything we needed. Clam chowder was delicious, along with fish tacos, grouper and fish and chips. Tje manager, Marcos, came over to introduce himself and talk a little about the Resort. Will definitely come back again.
Ballard’s has it ALL and does it ALL! Ballard’s is absolutely the BEST BEACH RESORT on the East Coast. NOTHING COMPARES to what Steve Filippi has created on this pristine, magical slice of beachfront property on Block Island. I could write pages, but I will point out these 3 unsurpassed characteristics that will define your experience. 1. HOMETOWN hospitality. Ballard’s staff is unequivocally the BEST! Each staff member is smiling, knowledgeable, and extends personal warmth, demonstrating a genuine desire to ensure your experience is perfect. Steve himself is camouflaged among the staff, wearing exactly the same colors and outfit except you will more than likely find him outside his hand extended, welcoming his customers. Every time I arrive at Ballard’s, I feel like I am home. Unparalleled by any other establishment I have ever visited. 2. QUALITY food and drink. I have eaten at Ballard’s at least a dozen times, and every item is fresh, artistically presented, quickly served, and with some special ingredient that makes it the BEST I have ever had. Whether it’s the Seafood medley pasta simmering in Sambuca sauce served on a skillet like they do in Italy or the New England Clam chowder – all AMAZING! Portions are generous, so sharing an option. On the drinks, WOWEE – BEST MUDSLIDE on the island, and all the other creative, colorful drinks just make for a fun cocktail. Did I mention your table has a view because you are literally on the beach – waves a crashing – moon a beaming – its downright dreamy! 3. ENTERTAINMENT to plan your summer by! Steve hosts well-established bands with remarkable histories that play music that makes you wanna dance, sing and rejoice. All of this against the backdrop of blue waters of the Atlantic ocean. Because of Steve’s attention to detail, most awesome staff and gorgeous location; Ballard’s is my favorite affordable resort and while summer season 2025 has ended; I can’t wait to come back and keep working my way through your menu, chillin on your rocks or dancing up a storm to one of you stellar bands. Thank you for creating this oasis of happiness!
The frozen drinks at Ballards are the best you are going to get anywhere they are amazing. The real highlight of this place was Amber at the front desk. I was swimming in the water and lost my glasses deep out I talked to her at the front desk and she assured me that if she took down my phone number she would call me if anything turned up. I have a wedding I am attending in a few days and expressed my concerns and Amber made sure she saved the day to find my prescription glasses and contact me . She is truly awesome and any establishment is more than blessed to have her. I can’t wait to come back and hope to see her again and thank her for how much she helped me while I visited she is truly awesome, I can’t thank her enough will definitely be back.
This is the biggest and most sophisticated restaurant in the island. With indoor and outdoor dining and access to beach. Plenty of food selection and bar on site. Foods are overall good but our fishes were undercooked. Manager Michael took immediate action to correct this.
Had a great time but wouldnt go on a holiday weekend as management doesn't limit the amount of people into the beach. We waited over an hour and 20 minutes for our food, and it wasn't accurate. The water was the perfect temperature and the waves made it more enjoyable.
Great location since it's right next to the ferry. Drinks and food are expensive but everything is expensive in Block Island. Beach is nice and it does get busy throughout the day. I gave it only 4 stars because I found a bee in my drink unfortunately they didn't refund but gave me a new drink. All employees seemed nice and offered good customer service.
Well, this summer the weather has certainly complicated our ability to get out to The Block. Finally, late September we had 2 days free and it wasn't raining or blustering so we said let's make a dash out to the Island and stay one night. Being after Labor Day, many seasonal workers had left, places were open restricted hours, the FIRE had devastated many businesses. We wanted to stay in-town since we weren't there very long , we didnt bring the car, and we would just walk about. Did you know that Ballard's has lodging!?... and it's not a bare bones - hose off the sand - sleep off the partying - kind of place? for $200 a night? and you can't hear the music from downstairs? and it has views? and 3 rooms each have a balcony overlooking the Harbour and town? They do! We got 2 rooms - and, being shoulder season, at a discounted price. They were both excellent. Queen beds. Nice bedding. Closet. Iron and board. 2 dressers with lots of drawers. A real refrigerator. Large screen TV. Large modern bathroom. Large walk in stone shower. One of the rooms was like a suite with small entrance hall with closet. Large bedroom. Another little room with a large vanity with lots of drawers and a sink. A separate large bathroom with massive shower. Sliders went off the main room to a porch with wicker lounge, 2 chairs and table. Looked out to the water sunsets and main street beyond. Room service was available from their regular menu. There is a designated entrance for the hotel part of Ballards so you dont have to go through the bustling party area. The staff were all charming. Ballards was winding down for the season, but the bar was still open. People were dining on the rear patio. A fellow was playing guitar and singing in the music shell. He said it was his last gig of the season. The tiki huts were being drained and buttoned up for the season. People were sunbathing and some were in the water. They have a lovely stretch of sandy beach on the open water stretching across to Narragansett Bay. You can throw a towel on the sand, but they have available chairs and umbrellas and cabanas. You can stroll along the boardwalk or quickly be in town for breakfast or shopping or the farmers markets on Wed and Saturday. Just a short walk to the Ferry. After you check out they will hold your bag until you are ready to board.
First time here. I came with two friends who have been coming here for years. They have 8 to 10 full size cabanas that run at least $400 and up. A very nice beach space. A massive interior bar and a few tiki bars outside on the sand. They also have another outside bar on the patio which is just adjacent to the first Cabana. Servers were nice, it did take a while to get the food, but they were very busy. There were several bachelor/bachelorette parties and then a lot of people in general. There were all ages and overall it was a really good time people watching. I gave 4/5 stars because I don't recall seeing any signs telling you that you would be charged 18% gratuity on each transaction. I'm not sure how I feel about that in general, however once I spoke to one of the servers she did make it seem as though they only get a percentage of the 18% when the receipt states something different. I ended up tipping my server extra each transaction just because I've been in the service industry and I know how important tips can be.
Be prepared for a long wait. We were seated immediately, ordered our appetizers and meals and then waited an hour, even for our appetizers and asked for waters 3x times. It must have been an unusually busy day yesterday. Otherwise the place is awesome, very big, there was music playing on the beach and it had a great vibe. But if you're starving, go to a different place. We had to catch a ferry so we didn't have a lot of extra time and ended up having to rush our meal. Also the line for the woman's bathroom was very long at some points, not sure if women are changing in there as well.
The vibe is great. Server was nice and friendly. Drinks were very yummy. The food was average if that.
When you reach the island, you will see this place and you will see reviews about this place being good so we went there. We were seated immediately, our server was very nice. Even the manager stopped by to ask and no doubt the service was good. We ordered from the shots menu, the jello shot and the peanut jelly shot which were good. The food came sooner than expected as we were hungry. The chicken picatta was made with cheese and butter but the chicken was very dry! And the pasta da Vinci in which the rigatonni was very chewy, it felt like it wasn't boiled freshed. But otherwise this dish tasted great! We requested to replace the chicken with shrimp and they happily did it. The view is great with those blue cabana but I was disappointed with the food!
The ambiance is very coastal, which is fitting. The food is good, hovever the portions were rather small and not worth the price. Service was rather slow and the automatic gratituity added for a table of two is not a customary practice. The place has a great potential, but they need to fix up their act
Been here a couple times on different trips. The food isn't bad. Nothing too special on the menu, but the stuff is made right. You can sit with a nice view of the ocean. It is very clean.
Fun Vibe, But Be Ready to Pay... a Lot! The atmosphere at Ballard's is undeniably great—perfect for a beach day with music playing and multiple bars where you can grab food and drinks. That part we really enjoyed. However, the pricing is outrageous. An average alcoholic drink runs about $15, but once you add tax and automatic gratuity (even for just one drink), you're paying $19–$20 per drink. We ordered a daiquiri and a Del's in souvenir cups, and the total came to $68—😳 seriously?! Even worse, the drinks tasted as if they had zero alcohol in either frozen drink. We were told that the alcohol is mixed in beforehand, but when even the manager admits, "Who knows how much they really put in," that says a lot. To be fair, a staff member gave us two replacement drinks for free, which we appreciated. But honestly, Ballard's feels like a total rip-off when it comes to value. Great vibe, but bring your wallet—and maybe a flask.
First off, I ordered the Ballard's burger. It isn't advertised as having onions on it. It came with a heap of onions. Our waiter only came by like twice and it was an incredibly long wait for our food. We only had four people. It was also so loud, even inside.
THIS IS ONLY A REVIEW FOR FOOD Breakfast here is not very good I tried most things on the menu and nothing was good. Sausage is disgusting. Drinks were not good either. Coffee was disgusting. LOCATION - fantastic spot. You basically get to eat on the beach. Seating area just set back from beach. Beautiful beach with great water. They supply beach chairs bean bags to sit. Walking distance from ferry
Good evening, September 21st or 22nd, I went to Block Island with friends and I was very excited to take them to Ballards. My first time here was in May this year. I have to say the oysters were my absolute favorite. I ordered two dozen for myself. I was very excited to show my friends and have them try oysters for the first time. Unfortunately they didn’t get to try because the oysters that came out looked very discolored and dilapidated. I was so so excited to have the oysters again but on Sunday it was nothing like the oysters you served before. The difference was night and day. I didn’t complain or send it back because we were still waiting on the rest of our food. The price of $48 was worth it to me when it was fresh, but on Sunday I had to force myself to eat it so I don’t waste almost $50. To be able to get it down I drowned it in Tabasco sauce. I have pictures and the shells are also discolored as if the oysters were sitting out for a while. I’m also taken back at whoever thought this was appropriate to serve to a customer. I was not only disappointed, I was embarrassed by hyping something up to my friends-just to be let down. The pasta was good and pretty.
Ordered 3 lobsters and one block island cut. 2 of the lobsters were unedible, our server kindly sent us another plates for them and unfortunately, those lobster plates were unedible too. I talked to the manager, he said one was not okay and the other was a topic of tastes. I spoke to 2 managers & 1 server for half an hour to cancel the order, they kept sending a check to us. On top of all, they kept adding 18% gratuity for an experience I definetly regret. They did not came to our table to answer us after we explained our requests, in practice, they kept us as hostage for more than 30 minutes. When we were leaving, the manager told us we have to pay and he argued for 20 minutes in front of the whole restaurant. In the end, our server kindly requested to pay for 1 lobster and 1 block island cut and told us to pay for our drinks
My drink had little balls of clay like substance in it. I groased me out and sent my drink back. My wife's scampi was bland and swimming in juice. This was brought to our table 20 minutes before I got my entree. The manager asked how everything was and I said terrible. He apologized when I showed him a ball of clay stuff in my drink. He gave a $5.80 discount for delivering our meals 20 minutes apart. I wanted to walk out towards tge beginning but my wife said give them a chance. It just got worse. I'll never go to Ballards again
