I have been ordering from here for years through the delivery apps. The food is always tasty, and the portions are good. I am from Chennai in India, and this food always satisfies my craving for South Indian food
This is my favorite restaurant in this city Ive been here over 20 times and am trying to cover their entire extensive menu - its becoming an obsession. No other Indian restaurant in this price category even comes close in terms of taste, freshness, and exactness of flavors. Sometimes the service is a bit gruff but so what who cares the food is delicious. I don’t understand the negative reviews this place is a solid 5.0/5.0 but don’t mind because it leaves more table space for me!
Excellent South Indian thali. Large portions. Good variety. Nutritious. Tasty. Great value for money. Service has significantly improved in the last year.
This place is my favorite restaurant in not only New York, but literally the world. It has the best food and it is such a pinnacle to how Indian food isn't just butter chicken and rice. It's a great place to try out south Indian food if you've never been or want to have your friends try the cuisine. Everything is amazing, but I usually get the rava masala dosa and the samosa chaat (which is to die for). I personally eat the samosa shells, and then eat the samosa filling with the dosa. I'd eat here everyday if I could. And there have been times when I've eaten here 7 days a week.
Made a large order for a group of 6 shortly before they opened, and they still delivered really fast. Online ordering was really easy to use, and the food was really good. They have a large variety of vegetarian dishes that are all at a good price. I'd definitely eat here again. Thanks for a great meal!
This place is fabulous. Everything is so flavorful—the gobi manchurian is addictive, the dosas are huge and scrumptious, the baingan bharta is smoky and sweet, and it all has just the right kick. I haven’t tried a dish I don’t like, and I’ve tried almost all of them at this point! I bring friends here for dinner and continue to cater work lunches from them—because my colleagues keep asking me to :) Oh, and did I mention that it’s reasonably priced and the portions are large? Just a great neighborhood staple.
My family has ordered from here for years now. The food is incredible comfort food. Some dishes can be spicy but it is consistently delicious every time. Items are packed well and portions are great.
An absolute gem of a spot. If you’re a vegetarian, this is your new favorite Indian place. There’s not a bad dosa on the menu — the Pondicherry masala dosa is a personal favorite — and I always make sure to place an order of their samosa chaat.
This was my first visit to NYC. I am a pure vegetarian and I enjoy good food. I was suggested about A2B by my cousins who live here and we tried this restaurant. The experience was beyond expectations. The food is super amazing. The taste is authentic. Someone who is missing food from India will enjoy here extremely and might totally forget that they are having it in NYC. We ordered lot of food and every single dish was amazing. Everything has its own amazing flavour. It’s a must try restaurant for people who love South Indian food. Please go and checkout this amazing restaurant for super delicious food. You will not regret.
Had the Chana masala and yellow lentils, was excellent! Yellow lentils a bit spicy but thats a me problem. Very delicious!
Amazing place to have authentic southern Indian cuisine. Their food is freshly prepared and always tastes good. My favorite is Grill Rava masala dosa, it's spicy. We got dahi vada for appetizers and loved their filter coffee. Coffee is strong and my favorite. Dahi vada is also very authentic. Great place to meet friends and/or to have weekend brunch!
If you want authentic South Indian food, this is THE place! I haven’t found a better one in Manhattan. I've been here many times and have tried many of their things: onion rava, masala, paneer rava, cocktail fried idk I, lemon rice, veggie uttapam, paneer uttapam, masala dosa, paneer masala dosa and I can confidently say it's one of the best South Indian food in the city - everything is cooked to perfection and the chutneys and sambar are perfectly stewed and flavored. I can't rave enough about the taste! The service used to be really bad with this man who was kind of rude but has changed and the staff now is a younger much nicer crowd. I’ve taken my Indian family who don’t shy away from critiquing food and even then loved it. I’ve also it introduced South Indian to my friends here. The place is a kind of hole in the wall ambiance, but if you’re not into trendy but good spots this is a much for South Indian. The prices are also very responsible for Manhattan.
Food was sooo delicious and fresh! I have been to other A2B in US, but none of them was as good as this one. It’s a little expensive, but for the quality of food it’s definitely worth it! Delicious food and wonderful service!
Just ate here for the first time with family. The food is so good. What we got wasn't spicy but was VERY flavorful. If i could afford it(it is NOT expensive compared to other restaurants, i just don't spend much money on eating out) i would eat there every week. Seriously. I would definitely go back for another special occasion. Charming and tasty!
I grew up eating South Indian food, and this is the best place I have found for it in the five boroughs. The dosas and chutneys are extremely fresh, portions are large and service is friendly. The prices are also very reasonable for midtown Manhattan. Highly recommend!
Not sure how I lucked out but I received excellent service. Thankfully didn’t deal with the rude staff that others have written about. I’d never had dosa before and wasn’t sure what to expect. Selected one with potato and came with four sides. Huge crispy pancake or crepe like tortilla device and absolutely loved it. Was a wonderful vegetarian meal and supplemented with a nice warm tea that I also really enjoyed.
The staffs are so nice!! I really love this place😁 I thought i was in india!! If you want to go india , if you want to try india, Then you better go this place first! This restaurant is south India restaurant!! And This is a vegan / vegetarian friendly restaurant!!! I’m a vegan!! So I was totally comfortable in this lovely restaurant!!! You can feel the culture! ! I used my right “hand” to eat!!😂 Of course, they have a folk and spoon and knife But I want to try real india So i used hand 🖐 Do you know why they don’t use a folk? Because in their culture, they think it’s not clean that used folks!! And they use right hand to eat!! Because they use left hand in restrooms! Haha 😄 so exciting culture I love this place 💕 Dosa(?) was bigger than costco pizzas 😂 Check this pics I strongly recommend the foods that i post!! Don’t expect a luxury!!! But it’s so nice 👍🏻
Excellent variety and portion sizes for the price. Plenty of vegan options. Dishes and ingredients were clearly explained on the menu. Comfortable seating with space between tables so you don't feel pushed up against the people next to you. I got the Paneer Masala Dosa and it was delicious.
Best place to eat in NYC for vegetarians. Sambhar was awesome. Tables are small for big groups or even for two if you settle down on a small table but all I care is about food and they rock at it. Wish uncle who serves or take orders smile once in a while. Make sure you ask for extra chutney and sambhar at the time of ordering or else it gets so busy they won't have time to get it later.
I called to get street address. Waitress Abeksha couldn't hear me and called me back .That was so nice of her.She greeted me sweetly . She brought my order on time and did not rush me actually I eat slow .Coffee was fresh and tomato onion uttapam was fresh, delicious and cooked very well .All the sauces and samber was tasty. Restaurant was nice and clean I will come back with my friend.
Okay, so I love Adyar Ananda Bhavan. I was hooked the first time I went in. I was hooked the first time I went in. The ambience is perfect Clean and cute atmosphere!!! Very cool scene. The food is delicious! The food is absolutely incredible, very reasonably priced. All filling and affordable. Helpful, down-to-earth, and authentic. Friendly service, great food, and fun area! Friendly and attentive service. I'd say it's well worth it! Everything we ate was so delicious!! I hope to come here again real soon! Despite the crowded night, I had a pleasant, food-filled experience. Adyar Ananda Bhavan - Loved It!
Came across this vegetarian authentic South Indian restaurant on first avenue during one of my walks around NYC. From the name of the restaurant to it’s appearance, the food, the style of serving , everything in there takes you down the memory lane. The only jolt you get into reality is the price. It is pricey considering Indian food standards but not pricey considering it is in the city. However, it is totally worth every penny. The place is super-clean, the ambience good with Indian music playing in the back ground and the service good. I ordered the idli -Vada sambar platter and the filter coffee and I must say that it was one of the best I have eaten. The filter coffee was on the mark. So, kudos to these guys for maintaining such a nice and authentic place without cutting corners!
Wide variety of south-indian dosas, authentic chutneys and sambar. Quantity worth the price and fulfiling. Auto-included 15% gratuity in our check (group of 4).
What can I say, other than WOW! The food is so flavorful. The portion sizes are hefty. This place is definitely a must if you love Southern Indian Food. They are closed between 3PM and 5PM. We had 2 different Thali's and would come back again. Keep doing what you do!
Highly recommend for people craving nice South Indian food. Nice idlies and pondicherry masala dosa is a must try and you can finish your meal with a strong filter coffee.
When I used to live in NYC, I came here regularly. So, on a recent trip back, I sought this place out. Just as good as I remember with large portions of delicious food. I recommend the Pondicherry Masala Dosa.
Fresh and tasty vegetarian food. Although its a South Indian restaurant but the North Indian options are also really good. The place is very clean, friendly staff, peaceful, plenty of seating and menu options. Definitely recommend it.
It was surprising to find an AUTHENTIC SOUTH INDIAN RESTAURANT in NYC. I literally had “BACK TO HOME” feel after a long period. I would recommend to try their South Indian Thali and Dosa’s. The food preparation and presentation was awesome. Friendly and warm welcoming gesture from Staff. Finished off with their excellent Masala Chai that had perfect texture and flavor.
This place has been our mainstay for south Indian food in NYC over the years. After a hiatus of several years due to the pandemic, we revisited A2B for indoor dining and greatly enjoyed ourselves. The idli vada combo, the Rasam, and the butter masala Dosa were excellent as always. The Rava Masala dosa felt a tad chewy (not as crisp as I remembered) but overall, we were very pleased with the experience. The Gulab Jamun was a nice way to round out the meal. This place is worth a visit if you're craving South Indian food in NYC! Update: Went back for more great food! The experience was great, even though they had issues with sending the food to the wrong tables, which led to longer than expected wait times. Hope they resolve this quickly! We had the Rocket Dosa, the Bullet Dosa (dosa with Pav Bhaji Masala inside it), and the South Indian Thali. All were excellent!
Second time at Adyar Ananda Bhavan and had an excellent meal. For appetizers we shared idli and vada combo and it was delicious. For mains we got ghee masala dosa and rava onion chilli dosa. Both were excellent. We asked for some dosa podi on the side (gun powder masala mixed with ghee). Way better than Saravana Bhavan. Enjoyed our meal. Ended up trying utthapam and was amazing as well.
Food is delicious and unique, bringing the south Indian cuisine to the heart of midtown. Prices are reasonable. There are plenty of gluten free options as well. Service is quite terrible though. They insist you can't share several of the dishes, despite them not being refilled or anything of the sort. They also refuse to accept more than one credit card to split the bill. Even getting an extra napkin wasn't easy.
Great tasty South Indian food. Service and ambiennce fell short of the expectation. Including serving water or providing plates and utensils on time was not taken care of. If you keep all that aside, the food was really yummy. Little attention to customer service will make the restaurant a real 5⭐
Was in New York during 2018 for 3 months. This place served authentic Indian food. Loved the Ambience. Sitting in New York and having a dosa all the while listening to Ilayaraja sir's song was an unforgettable experience💞
Masala Dosa was excellent, I am originally from Mysore & this one would compete with the best over there. The chutneys were delicious. The pickle they give with yogurt rice was really very tasty too. Mango lassi is on the lighter side. Best part was nothing is overly spicy, just enough to keep it flavorful. Keep a little extra time to get your order on the table, but well worth the wait.
Decent place overall, but not all the items listed on the menu were available. I tried the dosa it was okay, not the best I’ve had, but still fine for a quick meal.
A true gem for authentic South Indian cuisine in Manhattan! I've been coming to Adyar Ananda Bhavan for years and they never disappoint. Their menu showcases constant innovation while maintaining the authentic flavors that keep regulars coming back.
This has been one of our favorite dosa spots for a very long time. I give it a 5 star for the food but I do think there were a few things they could improve on and that's why overall I gave it a 4 star. Food: We ordered the dosas, I asked for them to be spicy and told them we actually want it spicy and unfortunately they just didn't do it. For the chili rava dosa we asked for extra chili and honestly we could barely see any chili in the dosa to begin with. The sambar was really good but needed a little bit of salt. I loved all the different chutneys and one of them was a bit on the spicer side. My husband got the uttapam and he said he really liked it. We usually get their cocktail idili here as it's one of our favorites, I highly recommend you try it. This time we got the cauliflower manchurian, it was fine, an average dish. Service: We came for an early dinner and it seemed like they might have been short staffed. We didn't have to wait long to be seated or get our food but for ordering and other basic service needs like refilling water, it would take a long time. Price: The food portions are very big here and considering this, the prices are very reasonable. Ambiance: This is a fairly casual restaurant but comfortable. Insta: @TheShahLALand
Great food! Hands down the best Indian on the UES if you are vegetarian/very vegan friendly and they even offer Gluten Free & Nut Free options. However, the service is extremely slow and almost non-existent. Also they have weird quirks like an extra charge for using credit card, no sharing and take out is $1 extra charge for containers. Hence taking down 1 star from my review. Even with their weird quirks, the food is so delicious and since I live in the neighborhood, I keep going back. Just don’t expect 5 star service and bring cash. Their food is so good that you will forget the bad service and their weird quirks.
The food was decent with a lot of selection on the menu. The bill for 4 people came out to a bit over $100, which isn't pricey. My main issue with Indian cuisine is the names are all in Indian language so the sub-descriptions really need to be more informative. The waiter was nice and he really tried but when we asked for more description about the entrees, he basically repeated what the menu said, which didn't really tell us much. The other issue we had was, not really knowing what the food is about, we'd expect a good waiter to tell us when what we ordered was enough or too much. And that didn't happen and we way over-ordered and had a lot left on the table at the end of the meal. I'd still go back to this place, being a little better informed about it. The food was delicious.
Short summary- the place is pretty expensive considering they charge extra for the masala that goes in the dosa and the quantities of sambhar ( which by the way had only drumsticks) and chutneys are minuscule. The idlis are by far the most expensive I have seen in recent times and regular dosas too feel high end for the price. We ordered mostly South Indian past weekend and found the food pretty greasy. Taste wise, everything was okayish . So definitely not heading out there again to dine when I know the quality and quantity do not justify the prices.
I gave this place 3 tries. One person for lunch (me). Each time I walked out of there spending around $50 on just myself and never felt satisfied. A few items got me to come back to see if I just ordered the wrong thing but NO disappointed every time with both food items and quantity/price ratio. It never worked out to be worth it. Last week was the last straw. Again another $50 lunch I could have gotten for under $20 someplace else. I. basically had white rice with chickpeas 2 pieces of bread and a tiny soup which I didn't finish for $50. Hell No. Dosa bread is good here but the filling looks like it was dished out with a tiny coke spoon attached to a key chain. I am done with these types of places.
The restaurant is conveniently located and easy to find. Great food. All vegetarian. If you’re looking for good South Indian food, it’s definitely a great pick! However, the service is beyond ridiculous. As poor as it gets. Poor hospitality, terribly slow, they forget orders over and over again, no coordination between the staff members, and can be really rude. This is NOT a quick-bite place. Unless you have a good two hours, I wouldn’t recommend going there. My experience at the restaurant was echoed by customers from at least two other tables.
We visited this place on a cold Christmas morning. We requested for a table for two and the guy just mumbled something and went away. There was an empty table but just didn't know what was happening. After another 10 mins another person came by and he told us we could sit at the same empty table if we wanted to. For food we ordered a mango Lassi, filtered coffee, idli vada combo, mysore Masala dosa and a rawa Masala dosa. Only thing memorable was the vada, Chutneys and the coffee rest were pretty mediocre. food I would say was a 3.5. Service, I had to remind them about the coffee and I could see other customers around suffering from the same ordeal.
Pretty average Indian Restaurant for what we ate and paid . Agree it’s NYC but other similar places on Lexington Ave are 10 times better than this! Dosa chutneys were served like tiny bit of tasters , Sambhar didn’t have any taste and heavily watered ! We ordered the Paneer Special Dosa , the paneer was served inside the dosa with the potatoes mix served on the side ! Only good thing was the filter coffee which was made well but overall one restaurant that I won’t be coming back soon!
Very slow service. They open pretty late, but even then many dishes weren't ready or available. Uthappam, ghee dosa, idli-vada sambar was good. Mysure Rava Dosa, and Madurai Malli was very thick and unnecessarily heavy. We ordered coffee twice; they did not get it the second time. Overall, I had a very average experience.
The food here is decent and I like their paneer. But the decency ends just about there. When me and my friend went to the place, the waitstaff was cleaning the table next to us after a big group left and proceeded to give us the jug of left over water from the table that he was cleaning. He just took the jug right from that table he was wiping and put it on our table like there was no problem. Also we had to wait quite a bit for our food, even, our appetizer, to the point that made us wonder if they had just forgotten about us. The place is understaffed(by rather inattentive staff) and not run very efficiently. Also I wanted to share some of my food with my friend so asked for a small bowl and a spoon. The waitstaff had such a hard time understanding that simple request. I wasn't sure if he was not capable of communicating or if he just didn't care. Maybe both. I think there are better options for Indian food that has far better service. I will not be returning here.
I will not recommend going here. I went during my office lunch break at 12 noon as it is scheduled to open then. They did not open until 12.12PM and we had to stand outside in the scorching sun. After requesting them twice, they let us in. If you have been to india, you’d know it’s not a customer friendly country and this is one such example of how they are bringing this culture abroad. Food is good👍🏻
This place is complete knockoff version of the authentic A2B. It’s far from the original. We ordered the idli and madhu vada plate, and the Sambar and chutney clearly indicate that it’s not authentic. The masala dosa was quite flat, and the potato masala was bland. I never thought the typical South Indian dish could be so poorly prepared in a supposed to be authentic place.
The food was pretty mediocre but there was a horrible incident happening to my neighboring table, I saw them politely complain about an undercooked dish, not sure what happened but pretty shocked at how the staff started yelling at them saying it wasn’t possible that it was undercooked because no one had ever complained. I didn’t have the energy to draw attention to the lack of salt in my masala. Appalled by the nasty service and unsanitary conditions.
This is the most terrible South Indian food I’ve ever had. The chutneys were cold (which they refused to change), my mysore mallai masala dosa was extremely bland, chilli parotta tasted of poor quality oil and was oddly sweet. Their chai was also watered down. Service was mediocre at best. I don’t understand how they retain customers. I didn’t like a thing they served me. Please avoid if you can.
the worst food i have ever had , the yellow thing they gave in the name of sambar does not even come closer to sambar, bland and without salt , dosa was rubbery and lacked salt . if you want to dine in bring in your own salt . And if you order buttermilk , they’ll take all the leftover raita’s , pour lots of water and will give you , but the plus point is , the raita buttermilk has salt in it … a lot of salt .
Under cooked uttapam and no salt in the potatoes of the dosa . The other dishes were also mediocre but technically nothing wrong . When I brought the first issue to the hostesses attention, coz I just couldn’t eat raw uttapam anymore she was confused. The manager overheard her and screamed at me that everyone else likes it and that it wasn’t possible . He actually screamed. He said I was trying to get a free meal. That if I wanted a crisp one I should have specified, I was shocked at what an issue they were making and told them to atleast remove the plate from i front of me. Then my husband also told her about the salt and requested them to taste and validate. The manager who had left by then but was passing us again stopped to scream at us in front of all the guests that if we didn’t like anything it was our problem. He wanted us to pay for the uttapam and hadn’t realized that I had sent it back so kept asking me why I ate it if it was raw. Not pausing long enough to listen to us or hear us out . The whole restaurant was staring at us which got us agitated. He told us to call the cops if we wnTed waving his finger and shouting as he left. Encouraged by the manager the hostess who had been sweet till then suddenly started shouting too and getting aggressive. Never going back . Mediocre food and humiliating behavior for a $14 uttapam because we told them it was bit undercooked . All you need to do is look at any comment that is not favorable to the establishment and read their response . Never a regret or apology. Anyone who doesn’t praise them is appalling . Simple . No wonder you never need a reservation to get three ever .
Please Do not be deceived by the name . This is not the Original A2B - Adyar Ananda Bhavan. And the worst service and food in the city !
Updated April 2024 The food here is meh. It used to be better. My gunpowder masala dosa barely had any seasoning or heat. Service is also clearly lacking. The restaurant was very short staffed and the staff looked tired and disinterested. We had to wait some time before we could get the server’s attention to order. When we finally got our food, we noticed that our drinks hadn’t arrived beforehand. We had to remind the staff that we ordered drinks in order to get them. I would highly recommend spending money on well-trained staff and updated decor.
I think this franchise of A2B is not run by Tamils. Coz the food tasted like some Telugu restaurant. So much disappointment. We everyone didn't like. Waste of bucks. Also, very tiny space. No crowd. So u understand. HSB is the best & worth. Save bucks.
Overall service, politeness and ethos of this restaurant was really poor, and felt like we paid a lot of money to basically eat nothing. This is not the A2B brand. The owner promised us into thinking a dish did not have certain ingredients that our table had an intolerance for. When the order arrived, we were able to literally find these ingredients right inside the food. We asked him again if he was sure, and then showed him that the dish indeed had that ingredient. Despite the server being wrong about his own dish, he didn’t fix / refund, but instead charged us more for me to order an alternative thing instead. The silver lining? There is a lovely map of Tiruvannamalai
Very expensive. Very small portion sizes. The rasam and sambar given with the meals were filled only half cup. when requested for more they wanted to charge extra. took a while for the server to attend to us and food took time to arrive.
We ordered two items via Grubhub. The restaurant cancelled one item after accepting the order. Did not offer a substitute. Two of us had to share the one item that was delivered (Ooty Spring Dosa) and both of us got stomach ache and diarrhoea overnight and all of the following day. The restaurant was short, verging on the rude, when we called to register the complaint.
Six of us went to this restaurant for lunch and were disappointed. I would not recommend it! A young waitress arrived after a few minutes but brought only four glasses for six people. I had to remind her that there were six of us. There were also no napkins provided until I asked for them. Minutes later, the food was served, but it was very disappointing. This restaurant uses the name ‘Adyar Ananda Bhavan,’ a well-known South Indian chain, to mislead customers into thinking it is A2B. However, it is NOT.
Edit 1 : The food is good but the service is always terrible in this place. Sometimes I spend more time waiting for people to attend me than actually eating. Edit 2 : Had another bad experience here where the manager was pretty rude when we just asked for a bit more sambar. Pretty much tried to belittle us. Had very good authentic Masala Dosa here. Pricing is on point too, about $10 for Masala Dosa. Definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking for South Indian food. Haven't tried other stuff yet.
We were a group of 7 went there at 7pm. When we went there only one table was filled and all other tables were empty. We ordered some food and waited for an hour to get part of our order. When we asked , we were told they are busy. It seems like they are giving priority to take out orders rather than dining in. They even forgot to give some of our food. Half of the food what we ordered they said it is not there. Even at 7 pm they didn’t have any of the food we asked from the menu. The service was very poor, we even reminded the server about our order and still after 1 hour 25 minutes they gave our order and cancelled part of our order stating that they are busy. I will never go to this place again and if possible o would have given 0 star for the service. I saw your reply. Please check the cctv footage. We were the only ones other than a group of people . Everyone came after that. I also didn’t beg your team to let us in. I called and got confirmation from them asking me to come. You don’t have to teach me etiquette, but teach your staff to behave to customers. Without even rethinking your staff care and cancelled my order. Also nobody told us that your order will be delayed or they are busy when we came inside or placed our order. Please do not threaten us , instead teach your staff to take care of dine in people as well.
The Food is excellent. The service and management are appalling. I had a terrible experience a while back but felt they deserve a second chance (as the food is excellent). From the moment you enter the place, they treat you like an unwelcome guest. They throw the menu at you and then disappear. They reappear after 20 minutes and take your order without exhibiting any politeness or respect. Then you have to wait for 40 minutes. After the food arrives, good luck if you they will stop by again to check in on anything. If you want to order anything else in the menu, you have to raise you hand or walk to the desk to request the server to come to your desk. When they finally come, it is with an irritated face. Again, you have to ask for the bill and wait for another 20 minutes. They give the bill and then disappear and you have to walk to the desk again to request to pay. The restaurant appears to be owned by the manager Anita who employs her family members to work there and they have zero training in hospitality. It seems they are genuinely unhappy to work there and would rather be somewhere else. It is such a pity because food is truly delicious and the prices are decent for Manhattan. I rarely write reviews, but was compelled to do so for the most terrible and appalling service I have ever encountered.
Beware : this is not traditional Adyar Ananda Bhavan chain , he’s just using same name to mislead people by modifying the Logo. People just tend to search famous chains , specially if you are tourist or new to town . Overall experience was just terrible , food was okayish but restaurant is not very well mamintained and service is just terrible ( worst service ever ). Specially manager is sooo rude and weird , he just makes up his own rules and charges extra whenever he wants . Like for extra chutney , he forced me to pay (it was not mentioned anywhere in the menu nor did he specify any of things while placing order ). I had to get up 2-3 times while eating for more water or tissue , none hardly pays attention , you could be waiting for ages before they come to you . I dare you to order filter coffe , it’s just instant coffee , not even close to your regular filter coffee . There are several hotels and chain within New York , even for Indian food , there are much better options , please never go here unless you want to get disappointed .
I live like 2 blocks from this place, and have been going there for a while, but this place has completely degraded the food quality, and the service has always been the worse anyway as they don’t care. First of all 4 chutney/sambhar slots, they gave us only 2, rest 2 were empty and I ordered mysore masala dosa, it dosa has no seasoning and it hey just gave us boiled potatoes inside. I asked them to change and add more seasoning, they were so rude, and told us to add the salt, seriously! I had been going there for a while but now they have reached to a limit. Won’t recommend anymore
Used to be amazing, like the best South Indian food in the city. The older Indian man/uncle that runs that restaurant has become miserable. As I live a block away I have been to this place over 50x, and every time he becomes worse and worse. I don’t even like walking past the restaurant because I don’t want to see him.
We visited A2B and had a very disappointing experience. After waiting nearly 20 minutes for someone to take our order, we asked for a chili paratha and two coffees. Being a group of four, we were then told that such an order could not be served for dine-in and would only be available to-go—information shared only after the long wait. The place also appeared severely understaffed. We proceeded to order coffee to-go, which took another 10 minutes to arrive. The coffee was watery, poorly prepared, and tasted as if it was made without any real experience and charged around $5.00 for each incl all (Taxes and Card processing fee). When we inquired about the delay, instead of addressing the issue, the staff chose to explain how coffee is made. Overall, this was frustrating and unacceptable service.
Good food (not great though). Awful service - They had no ice for water, Sides are all extra, some sides aren't available even if we are willing to pay extra, and extra wide price was $4 on menu but we were charged $6. The server got us a slightly different order and argued with us that I have the order wrong. Consider a different place.
Terrible and the worst restaurant on the planet. I ordered Idli and vada combo - Idli was hard and vada even worse fried twice, once a few hours ago and once when I ordered. Was stale.this was priced at $9. Left the vada Second order was masala Dosa which was terrible with a few drops of coconut chutney and the dosa was made like a knife hurting the tongue. When I asked why there are few drops of chutney, the answer is I can order extra chutney! This is unhygienic place with the serving staff smelling of sweat! This place should be closed by NYC as unhygienic place serving stale food. Total spent $25 on lousy food ! Worst place on the planet
Worst staff I’ve ever encountered — zero manners and absolutely no professionalism. I simply requested a dish to be made less spicy, and instead of accommodating (or even politely declining), they outright refused to serve me. This is all when I had my little one with me who was really hungry. The staff was extremely rude and dismissive for no reason. Restaurants are supposed to provide hospitality, but this place clearly doesn’t understand the basics of customer service. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs. What a lie - your staff has a big communication issue She very clearly asked if she can add tomato ketchup To which i said yes After everything said and done i said i’ll pay for the so called paneer fried also but i want masala dosa And the staff simply said no - we cant serve you any further How disrespectful one can be One star forever
DO NOT RECOMMEND! (ALSO DO NOT MISS OUT THE REPLY FROM THE RESTAURANT… THEY LAUNCHED A PERSONAL ATTACK ON MY CHARACTER AND INTENTIONS JUST COZ I GAVE HONEST FEEDBACK ALONG WITH PICTURES. I TRY OUT MANY RESTAURANTS REGULARLY AND POST REVIEWS ON GOOGLE AND ON YELP WHERE I HAVE POSTED 350 PLUS REVIEWS, SO LAST THING I WOULD WANT IS $10 REFUND/ FREE MEAL. I AM ALWAYS HONEST WITH MY FEEDBACK AND IT’S THE FIRST TIME A RESTAURANT HAS BEEN SO RUDE, DEFENSIVE, DISRESPECTFUL AND A COMPLETE GASLIGHTER ) This place used to be good, one of the better South Indian spots around, but honestly, they’ve completely lost their standard. I’ve ordered from them several times, hoping it was just a one-off mistake, but every time something goes wrong. One time, they sent just one idli instead of two. This time, the idli was straight-up uncooked. The worst part is When I’ve called to explain, they don’t really take ownership. Instead of apologizing or offering to make it right, they get defensive and try to justify the mistake. They’ll say, ‘Next time we’ll do better’ but that next time never improves. Honestly it’s a very juvenile response from someone in restaurant business. No refund, no replacement, no accountability. It’s frustrating and disappointing, especially from a place I used to like. I’m attaching photos of what I received. This isn’t how food should be sent out. Definitely not ordering again.
