This coffee shop has the friendliest barista you will ever encounter! pleasant tone voice, polite and just exudes kindness! this was a lovely start of the visit. aside from that, we had very delicious coffee. Hubster’s oatmilk latte was perfect. Im also not a “fruity” syrup lover but their White Chocolate Raspberry latte special was a nice treat! Inside has a nice cozy seating with both regular tables and bar chairs by the window. There are also a few seatings outdoors. love that we got a free drink when we brought a box of their coffee beans! thank you for the wonderful visit. (Feb2026)
Delicious coffee from a small and popular city chain. The drip coffee here is great, I’m excited to try some of their other drinks.
Our favorite neighborhood spot. The baristas are great - super friendly and have been there forever - which makes Black Press Coffee feel like a real part of the community. The coffee and pastries are always top notch. We love this place. Nothing beats a Saturday morning cold brew and donut on a hot day after a run in Central Park
I LOVED the coffee in this place. There is something so special about drip coffee. It is rich and bold, bursting with flavor. Black Press gets a lot of business traffic, and in true NY fashion- everything moves quickly. The staff are friendly and great at what they do. I highly recommend.
Great coffee for a very small place. I loved it and it was very smooth and tasteful. Edit: Went there one year later and it’s still good. Got the espresso this time and it was delicious. I will keep going any time I am in the City.
Good coffee. Nice selection. Fair prices. Serving sizes are on smaller sizes so its not possible to get “large”. Cute place and good location.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This place deserves every bit of 5 stars! The matcha here is absolutely perfect – smooth, rich, and not too sweet. You can really taste the quality, and it’s easily one of the best I’ve had ! On top of the amazing drinks, I have to give a huge shoutout to the staff for being so kind and honest. I accidentally left my purse behind while I was running around the city, and they held onto it for me until I came back, completely panicked. They were so kind and reassuring when I finally returned – it truly meant so much to me. Delicious matcha + genuinely good people = a business I’ll always support! 💚
Excellent drip coffee Highly recommend Employees are amazing and super friendly
good vibes and solid cup of coffee. study tables are small but works. lovely atmosphere with good music and the staff and the lights and plants really liven up the space. love the full wall of windows to get lots of light. the baked good look super good too but need to go back to try them.
The maple latte was fantastic with oat milk! Black Press is a fun shop to relax in or outside, and the neighborhood is great to walk around in with your coffee. The staff are very friendly as well.
Stopped by at this place for a latte on a sunny spring day. I used to live in NYC a while back and I remember that finding good coffee was a really hard task. So great to have these small coffee shops with really good high-quality coffee finally popping up in the city. I ordered a latte and my wife got an iced latte, and both were perfect. You can tell from the aroma of the coffee that the people here love coffee and really know what they're doing!
Good coffee. Great service. Nice to be here on a sunny afternoon. They’ve got benches on the side of the street and the surrounding environment felt cozy. Most importantly, a fellow customer kicked the iced latte I left on the ground and the staff was nice enough to make me a new one for free. That was a very kind gesture. Loved it.
I’ve been here multiple times and it’s always a great visit. I love their oatmilk lattes and I got to try the rose syrup the last time I went. Service is always fast and easy. Not much seating but with the nice weather you can walk over to Central Park.
Bought pumpkin loaf on our last day to enjoy on the way to the airport, and it was absolutely delicious. If we’d discovered it earlier, we definitely would have bought more. The staff working on New Year’s Day were incredibly friendly, too.
This is hands down the best coffee shop in the neighborhood. Every coffee that I have gotten has been superb and the prices are extremely fair. The highlight, though, is the staff (shoutout Jalyn, Anna and Audrey but everyone is amazing!!). They are so kind and, in a city where not too many people take the time to chat, they clearly care about the people that come into the store and have built a wonderful community. WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!
Everything was really great! We had quite the variety of dished including the chicken curry, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, lamb saagwala and the kashmiri roganjosh. The standout was the lamb saagwala. Highly recommend! You can't go wrong with any of the dishes. The service was good. We were the only table there so everyone was very attentive. Overall, good quality, great service, reasonable price for the neighborhood.
Great lunch special at Angaar! It is mix platter contain dal, rice , and naan and your option for vegetarian , chicken or lamb. Delicious, satisfying, and a great value! Portions were generous and everything came out fresh and hot. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a great spot for authentic, delicious Indian cuisine!
hi! my favorite restaurant spot near natural History museum. incredible food, awesome staff. they knew I was sick, & sent extra food in my takeout order which I tried to tip them back at some point. no idea how many times this restaurant fed me over my 3 years in Manhattan. miss you!
This place rules!!! The food was awesome and extremely flavorful and TASTY!!! I’ve been here a few times and the quality is always top notch in every way! We had the hey Siri, how do you spell Mulligatawny Soup (I guess I’ll leave that in to show my poor spelling skills…), Paneer Makhani, Lamb Tikka Masala, the okra and a fish dish and lots of Naan ALL DELICIOUS!! The Lassi was very good as well! Everyone that works here is super nice and the person that took care of us was awesome! She rules!!! Can’t wait to come back here and I hope you come and support a GREAT restaurant!! Thanks! 🙏
Angaar Classic Indian Cuisine: A Symphony of Spices on the Upper West Side Tucked unassumingly along Columbus Avenue, Angaar Classic Indian Cuisine unveils a world where time-honored recipes meet contemporary flair. The star of the menu — Mushroom Lemon Soup — captivates with its layered harmony of earthy creamy mushrooms, bright citrus zest, and the warmth of masala, a toasted spice blend. Each sip crescendos from creamy coconut undertones to a lively ginger-kissed finish, setting the stage for an exploration of their paratha repertoire. For regulars and newcomers alike, the meal crescendos with a final plea: return for the soup, and order an additional mushroom soup to go, always ordered with an extra wedge of lemon to cut through the spice-kissed bliss.
The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. I'd recommend this place very very highly. From the service to meeting the chef! It was an absolute pleasure eating at your establishment. To whom follow me? Go when you are in NY visit this restaurant and tell them DiBoy and his Mum sent you. You won't be disappointed!! And I'm a foody Have a blessed day 😁😁😁
The Service: Had to wait 5 minutes for a table while on an extremely busy Sunday. I was notified and was seated promptly. Next time if possible, I will sit on the top floor. Our Server was extremely helpful. I forgot to ask the gentleman’s name. Food: Everything was exceptional. The goat biriyani was perfectly cooked. Right among of ingredients, tender lamb, slightly kick from a spice. Perfect Temperature. We also got the Chicken Tikka with Garlic Nan. Best on a cold New York Day. Very tasty and good portion of food. Got the Garlic Shrimp, very different but delicious. I didn’t do a research before getting there and it turned out to be a hidden gem. Will be returning.
Atmosphere (3/5): Right when you walk in, you are welcomed with the aroma of spices is intoxicating. You walk into a tight homey dining space that fits 10 people, connected right to the kitchen. There’s some half-outdoor dining available and then a second floor that overlooks the lower floor. The second floor can accommodate upwards of 15 people and the bathroom. Service (5/5): While the staff did not speak English very well, they were extremely welcoming and took the time to get to know me! They served everyone with a warmth and professionalism. I felt like I was a guest in their home. Food: The food was FIRE—there was such depth to the flavors Vegetable Samsoa (4/5): The samosa complemented well with the various dips! I felt like the inside could have been a Garlic Naan (4/5): I would definitely recommend getting 1 order per person as they were not terribly big but very nicely seasoned and soft. I wish they were saltier or had a bit more garlic flavor. Kashmiri Roganjosh (5/5): The lamb chunks were very tender. The curry was seasoned with a punch of flavors and just slightly spicy. I loved every bite. I commend the staff who have to run up and down with our orders!! Overall, very pleasant and delicious meal (and leftovers!)
It’s a cozy restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. We got samosas, garlic naan, mushroom saag and chicken tikka masala. The portions were generous and it was all very tasty. The saag was a bit spicy for my husband so he asked for some yogurt to cool the spice. They charged us $6 extra for that. It was a necessary for him so for us it was worth the charge.
Highlights: Generous portions, rich flavors, juicy meats, extensive menu Came here with 3 friends. We shared all our choices. The sweet naan was delicious. All the entrees were perfectly done. Not the spiciest Indian food I have had, but the flavors were still vibrant. Curries come with rice. The light beer offerings they have are solid. Fast and friendly service. An area for improvement would be some background music while we dined. We shared 4 apps and 4 mains + drinks for a price point around 30-40 dollars per person including tip. I would bring friends back to this business.
My experience here was a 10/10. I have visited this place with my friends 3 times and all times have been great with no complaints. I ordered the Malai Chicken Kabab and ate it with white rice. My friends both got an order of Chicken Tikka Masala and we shared 2 orders of the Garlic Naan. The food was fresh and was ready quick, we only waited a few minutes after ordering. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. The food was delicious and the portions were great for the price. I look forward to going back with my friends and I recommend this for anyone looking to eat amazing Indian food.
We absolutely LOVED the food here. I have been searching for a great Indian place in the city that wasn’t outrageously priced…this is it! The best Tikka Masala I’ve had I think and we loved the Navrathan Korma. Do NOT get the rosemary naan but everything else was great. We also really enjoyed the Vegetable Samosas. (They even include rice with your dish for no extra charge…whaaaat??)
Awesome experience! Great food. Attentive and friendly staff. Very nice experience. All of the food items were delicious. Samosas and chutney were a wonderful starter. We shared chicken tikka and lamb vindaloo. An order of Naan per person is a fair amount (get two of you go on a date). We also got a side of rice and by the time we got out of there we were STUFFED! For a date with a couple drinks each, an appetizer, a couple entrees, and a few extras on the side expect to pay about $100. In this area this restaurant is really well priced. I certainly will be back for more!
The honey cinnamon latte here was delicious! It wasn’t too sweet, and it balanced perfectly with the beans. However, it is a small cafe with limited seating, so probably plan to take your drink to go If you like your lattes sweeter, the employee recommended to try the salted caramel :)
Nice coffee shop! Coffee smell was so good that we went back and ordered coffee. Fresh coffee. Decor is nice. There was no seat so we took it to go.
Great Indian food in the neighborhood. The food was rich with many flavors and came really fast. It was obvious it was all hand made like the samosa which had an original filling. We took the kebab, a dish of palak paneer and dal makhani. Everything was super tasty. The garlic naan was also great. We sat downstairs which was cosy and really felt like being in India again! The only problem was the door which was opening up all the time and it was a bit cold for my taste. Definitely will be back again!
Hi we went to Central Park yesterday and this was quite close to the Central Park . The food was awesome and the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating arrangements!!! Since it was very hot we sat inside . We were 11 people including kids . We ordered paneer makhani, butter naan , garlic naan, onion kulcha, shrimp curry conchin, chicken kadai, chicken 65, paneer kofta . Everything was good . The laccha paratha was not the actual laccha though !!! It was looking a regular wheat naan. Rest of the food was good . Would definitely recommend this restaurant . If you on weekday they have lunch specials too for veg and nonveg
Ordered saffron chicken korma and chicken biriyani. The chicken was a bit dry in both. The curry was lacking in flavours. The biriyani had a weird, artificial taste. The roti and naan were also lifeless. If all this wasn’t enough, the prices are also unreasonably high. I specifically asked if we need one or two mains for two people and was told to get two. I didn’t know the curry is served with rice and we ended up with too much food (which wouldn’t have been a problem if it wasn’t so dull). Based on my experience, this place is run by people who have no care for authentic Indian food and no interest in serving their guests. I wish I could erase the memory of ever visiting here and ruining my otherwise happy day.
I’m not sure if the barista was having a bad day, but my experience was disappointing. He was rude, and when he handed me my coffee, he placed it on the counter with enough force that some of the coffee spilled onto the counter and my cup. There was no apology or acknowledgment. What stood out to me most was that the customer immediately after me was treated much more kindly, which made the interaction feel uncomfortable. I’ve been a loyal customer for a long time since I work in the area, and this just wasn’t the level of service I’m used to or expect.
Paid $4.25 + $1 tip for a drip coffee. I drink gas station and deli coffee and I’m not particularly picky, but I actually do know a good amount about coffee on the high end as well. This is the worst drip coffee I have ever had in my life - full stop. Tasted like dishwater and even smelled weird. I have never had drip coffee with a flavor so far away from any other coffee I have ever had. I thought mine was an anomaly but my 4 friends all had the same disgusting drip coffee. Never again.
Flavorless coffee and rude barista. The person at the register was very nice, but ordered a honey cinnamon latte and asked if it was syrup and the person at the register said yes so I asked for less sweet. When I got it the latte was completely flavorless and bitter (I’ve gotten from here before so I should have known better), so I asked the barista to add more syrup and she said “we don’t add syrup” but grabbed a squirt bottle and just squirted some in my drink clearly annoyed (some even squirted out almost on me). Never again.
Honestly, I used to like this join. It has been passed to many hands before. My assumption is that it may have a new owner. The food is really bad, the rice is flavorless and feels as if it is was from the week before and it was kept in the fridge. The chicken marsala was disgusting to say the least. I do support small business as I always do, but Angaar is not helping. So avoid it - food is totally unacceptable.
