Back Pocket Bar in NYC is one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and can't help but love. My wife and I come at least once a month. It's cozy, with a great crowd and excellent music playing all the time. Everyone sings along to their favorite songs. The selection is just wine and beer, but it's a good one. Whether you're looking to start the night off right or wind down after a long day, this place is perfect. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a laid-back spot with great vibes and even better tunes.
Went with a couple of friends to catch up. Loved this place! Great wine and interesting drinks - especially the Sake Lemonade. Fantastic atmosphere with good music and a lively vibe yet still good for conversation. Will definitely return. Wine around $15/glass.
Such a cool little spot! Super easy to miss but definitely worth a visit. Love the fact that they give you some popcorn to snack on. Best thing is also that they have frozen Aperol spritzes. Amazing! Now for my standard COVID comments as of September 2022. No masks being worn but it’s no longer mandatory. Pretty small location but felt comfortable while it was not too crowded.
Overall rating: 4.8 Always a joy to visit. Drinks are top notch and bartenders are so nice! I like to come on a Saturday afternoon and just read a book. The popcorn is also so good and the drinks are very reasonably priced. Definitely have to come back when I get the chance.
Great neighborhood bar. They only have beer and wine. Great atmosphere. Great music.
A gem on this earth. Will forever bring friends here on Friday night for Monique, the immaculate vibes, and awesome drinks. This bar is a HK staple, and yes pocket bar is great too, but back pocket is 10x better. The community, wholesome. The vibes, electric. The bartenders, best there ever was. Literally Weiwei and Monique be putting in the work. Dancing, performing, making everyone feel welcome, and literally running the entire bar by themselves. My glass is never empty, there is always a good song on, hit it at the right time of night and everyone is out of their seat singing along. Could not recommend this bar enough to anyone looking for a perfect night out.
Ok so my friends and I decided to try this place since the bar we were originally going to meet up was too crowded and let me tell you it was the best decision of the night! Our bartender was a gorgeous girl name Moe and she was soooo helpful and so sweet and so much fun! She really made the entire experience a night to remember! Mo provided such great energy! She was simultaneously making drinks and playing dj from her own incredible playlist and hyping everyone up and dancing for us while also making sure we got out free popcorn snacks! She was a one woman show and we loved it! She had the entire bar dancing and singing along. It was like one of those movie scenes where a bunch of strangers become friends for a night and just truly have fun together and it was all due to her being such a positive energy! I asked her when she works and she said weds thru sat I believe because my friends and I definitely want to come back and see if we can experience this magical night again. Absolutely a million times would recommend! I give this place all the stars!
Love Back Pocket! Go to spot for great wine, great ambiance, and great company - be that with friends of the lovely and talented Monique. Crowd is normally good vibes and the music is always fun - expect many singalongs!
Such an amazing find in the heart of the Big Apple! It's places like this that make a night out in NYC so much fun. The staff are extremely hospitable and the regulars are super friendly. Love the wine and beer selections too. Don't miss out!
Such a gem! I love the vibe, friendly service and great drinks. Plus, it's great they're serving wine fresh and sustainably with reusable steel kegs. Look forward to visiting again soon!
Favorite bar in Hell’s Kitchen. They have struck a chic balance between intimacy, approachability. Perfect for close conversations during the week and fun dances on the weekends! And free popcorn?!?(^◇^)
The vibe in this bar is AMAZING and definitely because of the service. You walk in to a candlelit bar, a great playlist, and Mo- the most interesting, fun, bartender ever. She kept the drinks flowing, supplied accessories to add to the experience (we were celebrating a bride to be), and a never ending sing-along. Definitely a top notch experience. Drinks available wine, beer, and a delicious cider. There's also popcorn to snack on
We stayed just a block away from this bar on our trip to New York. My wife and I stumbled into it while looking for a place to grab some drinks. Very small, but a super cool atmosphere. This ia a beer and wine venue. The bartender was super fun and welcoming. We had a few drinks, played three rounds of bingo and had a blast.
Amazing vibes always. Never ceases to amaze that Mo can run the whole bar alone never missing a beat and still give the level of personal attention to every patron. Caution: you will lose your voice singing along to all your favorite songs.
Such an inviting location. Great music, great vibes, great drinks . Mo was phenomenal and made this such an awesome experience. She went above and beyond to help us celebrate our bride to be 💍! 1,000 % recommend
We loved the vibe at this place. Great music. Simple drink menu of wine & beer. Friendly folks at the bar. Everything was chill. Spectacular service from Mo & Tiffany. Raffle night was a blast ! Don't want to tell too many people about this place. Want to keep it cool & intimate.
My absolute FAVORITE bar in NYC. This is the type of place you go to meet people and sing your heart out. Not a piano bar, but might as well be. A place you can go to truly be yourself and enjoy your evening. No pretense, no bad attitudes, just fun. The bartenders are fantastic and incredibly kind. 100% would recommend.
As Is is a craft beer lover’s paradise. The tap list is always rotating with incredible selections had a rare Hill Farmstead IPA on my last visit that was perfection. Bartenders are super knowledgeable and happy to let you taste before committing. Cozy minimalist vibe, no TVs, just great conversation and beers. Chicken tenders were surprisingly elevated for bar food. Happy hour is a steal. My go-to spot in Hell’s Kitchen!
Ah, one of my absolute favorite beer bars since they opened (oi nearly 10 years now already!). The bartenders and buds to the beer selection are always immaculate. Also being one of only a handful of joints in the city who have a Lukr is solid. I love reading “reviews” via *very not stupid* people whining about “no tastes!” (because a great beer bar is DEFINITELY an ice cream joint eh?) or “FOAM” (holy…); just because you know NOTHING about beer and are embarrassed of yourself, no need to come to the interweb to display and shriek about it💋. Also if you dig amaro, there’s always a slick selection as well. 🍻
They had an impressive beer collection, including gueuze Tilquin blend of old and young lambic beers and a delicious Brettanomyces beer on draft. To make it perfect, they serve their beers in tasting glasses, much appreciated as a Belgian living in the US.
Best selection of craft beer on tap that I've found so far in Manhattan. Great cozy industrial vibe with lots of space. They make great cocktails as well.
I tried two margaritas both were excellent and the wings were absolutely tasty, with the fries also hitting the mark. The vibe was relaxed and the music added a great touch to the experience. Although it was my first visit, I had a really fun time and can only imagine how lively it must get on the weekend. The atmosphere had an unusual but interesting feel to it, and I’m definitely planning to return.
Great beer, great environment, great staff. Wonderful selection of interesting options on tap. Only complaint is that they don’t even do samples. You’re rolling the dice on what you order if you’re exploring new taps. Usually wouldn’t mind but some of their options are on the expensive side.
Delicious food and the finest fish and chips in town! They offer an impressive variety of quality beers, all enjoyed in a laid-back, relaxed setting. It’s refreshing to have a place where you can chat comfortably without raising your voice. Highly recommended spot!
As Is NYC has become our reliable spot for quality beer in the neighborhood. Their hazy IPAs are consistently excellent. The space is welcoming, with outdoor seating for warmer months. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. A bonus: they offer small pours, perfect for sampling new brews. We'll definitely be back with friends and family.
Cool beer bar in Hell’s Kitchen. Found myself a dark spot with air conditioning on a hot day. Food was excellent too. Very pricey though. $12 for many of the beers. $5 happy hour (for $10 beers, which were a few). All the beers were good that I drank. I do wish they allowed tastings as I didn’t want to commit to a full pint of 8% blackberry hibiscus sour. But I did anyway. And it was great, not too blackberry-y.
Extensive selection of local and regional beers on tap! It was great to see something for everyone and not a single style [of beer] taking over. The staff was friendly and informative, and the food was generously portioned. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was nicely spiced with a very generous portion of pork. As for beers, I had a Hills Farmstead (out of Vermont) 'of first and last things' (IPA) before my meal, and a Drowned Lands (out of NY) Scythe (Forder fermented pumpkin beer). Great spot for someone who enjoys beers!
As Is can take all my money. Best NYC craft beer bar because you can try beers for $4-5 before committing to a full pour. I probably average 3-4 different beers per visit (follow me on Untappd: illfayze lol) They rotate their selection frequently, and Half-Off Cellar Sundays have led to some unexpected discoveries. Staff is super nice and helpful, providing recommendations and advice for the novice sipper or the craft enthusiast. Very quality date spot + casual hangout in Hell's Kitchen if you want craft beer without being locked into $10+ per pour!
Great beer bar in Hell’s Kitchen. Came across this by accident while visiting a friend and this was after I had searched for best craft beer bars in NYC and this wasn’t on anyone’s list (it should be!) loved the space and selection of beer. Food menu looked great as well but all we had was the pretzel which was outstanding. Highly recommend!
One of the best beer menus I’ve come across in NYC. I’ve been here a couple of times and the taps moves quickly (also a good variety of cans/bottles), which makes it all very fresh, but also allows for a new variety of brews every time you go. The menu is also very diverse—IPAs, stouts, sours, etc. Food is good—just what you need at a beer bar...small menu, nothing too fancy, but good quality. Bartenders know what they’re talking about—they are beer fans, not just pouring beer. They now how to pour the different types and they have a great glass selection. It’s easy to make a decent list of beers, but the service here takes it to the next level!
Cute spot great vibe! Candle-lit and dark. Wine & beer menu. The Sunshine IPA was super bitter though, and felt kind of expensive! ($11). Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Free popcorn is a nice touch. Cozy for sure! The height of the seats felt a little bit off with the high tables. Server had us clear the wrong bill which was not too big of a deal, but with only 4 or so customers, I think maybe that could be avoided in the future.
I’ve had really wonderful experiences here. The bar is small, and bartenders here generally make the occasion feel warm and community-oriented. It is jovial and silly and warm. The selection of beer and wine is also excellent, and the free popcorn is a cute touch. Recently, a friend and I were having beers and catching up here. The bartender was friendly and attentive, and she seemed to imply she wanted to take a shot with us. She did this a few times, and we agreed to. At the end of the night, however, we found she had charged us for each shot. We expressed some surprise. She sort of shrugged and said “we do this thing called upselling.” We paid, of course, but the experience felt underhanded and strange in retrospect. Something to keep an eye on! Otherwise, a charming gem in West Manhattan.
Fun little bar but tiny and super loud so plan to come here if you wanna drink and sing with your friends and not necessarily have a conversation of any kind!
Been here 3 times now over the past year. Ambience is nice: Modern Industrial and lively crowd. Many Beers on Tap and different pouring sizes. They do not let you try beers but have small 4oz Pour. First two experiences were 5/5 with friendly and attentive bartenders. My most recent experience was a bit off. Bartenders seemed a bit less enthusiastic and did not really get good energy from them. After first drink closed out and left.
The cocktails are terrible. Premixed, weak, taste like they both contain IPA beer when they shouldn’t. Really dissatisfying. Service was basic and unappealing. The best part is the place it’s self as it looks nice. I’ve put 1 * for food as drinks isn’t an option. We didn’t eat. The pictures is of the papi chulo and a classic margarita. Do not recommend cocktails, hopefully their beer is good for those who like beer. $33 for bad cocktails is not worth it.
