The shrimp & Grits were AMAZING!! Drinks were good too! My bestie had the fish & chips, she loved it! Oh the name of the drink is “sail boat” highly recommend very refreshing!
Pretty decent! The seafood Linguine was so delicious! I would definitely order again! I also had the old school lobster roll! I’m mad I finished it lol it was good! I will be ordering again! Wish I had pictures but my greedy self ate the food soon as I got it 🤣🤣❤️❤️ I ordered on 05/19/2022 then I went back the next day to get the same thing! I really don’t care about the price! You spend money on good food! The cashier was soooo nice! I wish I got her name. But I remember her face🙂this time I added a picture.
Nice corner spot with open air feeling. Food was delicious. Good beer selection including a nice "toasted lager" in-house brew. They sent us a plate of complimentary korean bbq wings that were flavorful with a good spicy kick. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. And if you are a Philadelphia Eagles fan, this is the place to watch on Sunday whole enjoying some fresh seafood.
One of best bars in New York. The staff is really friendly. The quality of the food is really good as well. I came here for some drinks and snacks. I was not disappointed, one of my favorite was the crab and artichoke dip. Awesome food, great environment. Highly recommended, thank you guys.
The food was amazing! RJ and the bartender provided phenominal service. The staff goes out of their way to provide the best experience possible. Def try the street tacos, raw oysters, and lobster mac. The flank steak was charred to perfection.
9/26/2021: Omg! My husband and I were in NY this past weekend for our anniversary and we went to this spot last night and boy oh boy was it amazing!! Tony was our bartender and waiter and he gave outstanding service which complimented the equally outstanding food! We ended up with delicious oysters, lobster rolls and shrimp and grits… The atmosphere itself was pretty laid back and casual sports bar type feel with a certain charm to it… if your thinking about this spot stop thinking and go and enjoy. 11/19/2021: we’re back in NYC and had to revisit this restaurant. The food was just as wonderful as it was last time, and Lucy was our person today and she was just as fantastic with her service. Love the consistency in food quality and service. Would still recommend Bait & Hook!
Checked out this place for happy hour, not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised--our waitress was remarkably kind and attentive and let us order happy hour drinks and food about 5 minutes before happy hour was supposed to end. The drinks were standard--can't go wrong with rosé or Stella in the summer--but the fish tacos were surprisingly impressive. During happy hour, you can order tacos in smaller portions, and I found that 3 fish tacos was a perfect size. The fish was light and crispy and the lime on the side the perfect touch.
The happy hour specials are my favorite thing about this place. You can order decent sized $1 oysters on Thursdays, $1 taco fish on Tuesdays and there are other deals throughout the week. There's outdoor seating and have I mentioned the oysters?
My favorite brunch spot in NYC. The service is amazing and the food is great. Highly recommend the Crab Cake Benedict.
Happy hour was great, and one of my fav seafood spots.
Great little seafood spot off Union Sq. Doesn't get NYU kid slammed as often as others. Service is great, they go above and beyond, drinks are cold, oysters were delicious. One of my favorite places to meet clients and colleagues.
Fish sandwich was delicious. The cod was fresh and fried to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The staff was attentive and very polite. The bartender even gave us a free drink when he was trying to create new cocktails. He made something and asked us to try it and see what we think and when we told him that we liked it, he gave us the drink for free! Highly recommend.
Incredible. Delicious food - got Dave's Lobster Mac and my girlfriend got Seafood Linguini and the quality of both blew us away. Came here for her birthday and absolutely coming back!! (Wish I had pictures but it just looked and tasted too good not to just gobble up) Edit 2/14/22: Went back for Valentine's! Got the same thing and one of the Valentine's specials and it was just as great as the first time! The staff was also very nice as always.
I don't typically write reviews; however my exceptional experience at Bait & Hook merits a complimentary review. It was my first time trying this restaurant. What caught my attention was the reasonable prices. Overall, it was my entire experience. From welcoming hospitality to the atmosphere; which included beautiful outdoor setting -- to the exceptional service with selfless accommodations. I enjoyed my experienced so much that I am planning to bring my mother back during her next visit to New York.
I was just here on Tuesday night and it was fantastic! They had live music and a terrific ambiance! They had up to three fish tacos for a buck each for every beer or drink you had! They had a house beer on tap ( a lager ), very refreshing! The lobster rolls were to die for!!!! The service was top notch too! Highly recommend if you are in NYC Village area.
Bait and Hook is one of my top favorite restaurants. All the food seems so fresh. The food is 110% extremely delicious. I recommend the fried calamari and lobster rolls! Both dishes are to die for (among the rest, of course!). Not to mention, the customer service is high-class. Everyone is so calm and kind. The environment is so lively and social. Prices are super affordable. They often have great specials so definitely check those out! Bait and Hook is amazing during the hot and sunny summer days with the outdoor seating and open sunshine beaming through the windows. It's so refreshing to take a sip from the bar on a summer day when you need a pick-me-up. If you're considering Bait and Hook for brunch, lunch, dinner, whatever, without any hesitation, just hop on over here.
Awesome low key(not so low key) place to visit. Their food menu is interesting and delicious thus far. Spicy Korean wings are a go-to for a quick bite, bacon wrapped prawns were delightfully delicious, and the salmon almost made me melt. The wait staff was very friendly and fun! Nelly and Lucy absolutely knew how to make me feel like I made the right choice by dining here!!!. **side note - the happy hour menu as well as various specials are something to always be on the look out for.**
I never give 5 stars but this place was surprisingly was fantastic! Great happy hour! Everyday til 7pm! Had the happy hour oysters and they were fresh! For entree, I ordered the miso cod with asparagus and mashed potatoes. My daughter ordered chicken tenders and fries. And these were like homemade Panko bread crumbs or something... very good! Our waitress was amazing as well. Looking forward to going back and trying more dishes!
Great food, good value. Excellent fries and seafood.
Though I do not enjoy outdoor seating & eating along a NY seat corner for some reason this place brought out something different in me. The restaurant was an enjoyable change of pace and the staff was more then willing to put a smile on our faces. I say this hoping not to overshadow their homemade chips which are to die for.
The first time I came into Bait and Hook I was excited to try this seafood restaurant. I liked a lot, I ordered the fish tacos, having a strict diet they customized my order to make sure that it was fine for me to eat it and it was delightful this tacos are my favorite just because its texture and taste was really light and not overwhelming, there's was no oily smell or flavor in it. Also I was a bit disappointed to know that they did not have any oyster left come on what is a seafood restaurant without oyster? I tried also the calamari and it's was really good. Happy hour on Tuesday get a beer and buy tacos for $1, that's a great deal for these tacos.
Well it's St Patrick's Day so we are definitely in a good mood. 👍🏻 so Thursday is thirsty Thursday 😁 their street tacos are really good at a dollar each today. 2 dollars each on a regular Thursday
Great ambiance and service. The freshness and flavors very well though.. NOELOPR
I was here on business, not pleasure. I haven't eaten here yet but, it does look very nice and the patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves and their food... I work for Chief Fire Prevention and Mechanical and as a compliance specialist I was here to make sure that there exhaust systems were up to code. They definitely have one of the cleaner kitchens that I've seen while working. Lol I look forward to trying thier food.
Great fish and chips... Not too greasy like you can find at some places. My husband liked his fish tacos too. I wish we would have tried this place before now, because we will definitely go back. Great patio for a nice summer evening.
Went for Thursday beer and oyster happy hour. seating is indoor and outdoor...so add a half star for outdoor eating on a nice day. Excellent value, good oysters, cold beer, a few appetizers to share (The sliders and fries could be a meal!) Nice place to meet a friend for a drink and some good seafood. Food is 3.5 stars, service 3.5 stars, but the value (combination of price and quality) give it the extra star. Well worth a visit. I will be back.
Danny, my waiter was excellent and he's definitely a hottie. There was another server that brought my drink and complimented on my locs which was very pleasant. I always love stopping by this place when I'm in the area and this place continues to satisfy me. I ordered the crab cakes, half dozen oysters and the fish tacos which i devoured in all of 2.5 seconds. I wish they had happy hour on oysters during brunch and, I wish the crab cakes were bigger like actual Maryland-style crab cakes but I digress. I haven't been here since before the pandemic and very happy it's still around. I see myself back here soon.
We look place up after my eye surgery and we are glad we did the food is excellent food is delicious. We had happy hour 3 dollars fish tacos so so good fresh and the jumbo shrimp grilled and fried wow delicious, the crab archives cheese dip sever in a black skillet with pita chips so so so good! Nice bar atmosphere is relaxing and watching TV and listening to music can sit outside service was fast waiter polite and describe the food so good we wanted to try more, the table next to us had salmon it was a nice size piece it look so good we started to order it for take out. Yes I recommend this place !!!
Celebrating my wife's birthday was a nice quiet dining experience. The service was kind and considerate. The food was tasty; nicely seasoned and well cooked. Good music filled the room and the candle lit table added romance to the evening.
We came here for dinner and were impressed by the reasonable prices and the variety of dishes on the menu. Although they do not have a liquor license, they do make soju cocktails (I guess soju is classified as wine??) that are quite tasty. For food, we shared the white clam pizza, the baja fish tacos, and a side of fries. The clam pizza was delicious - a good amount of clams that tasted fresh and not out of a can, with some great mozzarella. It even came with a pile of arugula that had a delicious olive oil on top - nice touch! The baja fish tacos were fried to perfection - very crispy and well seasoned on the outside, and flaky and moist on the inside. The service is very friendly, but they tend to get forgetful with things like the check. We asked for our check several times before receiving it. The soups that other tables around us had smelled so good, and many other things on the menu looked very tempting. Looking forward to coming back.
Really enjoyed the food, seafood was fresh, cocktails were tasty, service was also quite good. My only issue is I asked if the things I ordered were gluten free and was told yes. They were not. Food allergies beware, everyone else, enjoy.
Food quite good. Had a delicious sautéed cod sandwich that came with excellent fries. Also a nice coconut shrimp appetizer. My cocktail took too long to arrive. In general the staff was very sweet but not fast enough.
Me and my group of friends had a great time at Bait and Hook. We went on a Wednesday and they had a special $20 a bottle of wine. The service was extremely nice and considerate, always checking up on us. I got a Wild Salmon with Korean Glaze that was finger licking good. The only reason why I’m not giving this place 5 stars is because or food took a little longer than expected, the waitress (who was a sweetheart) did apologize and explain that they were short staffed that night and offer us a round of drinks to make up for that inconvenience. ANYWAY - this place is great and I recommend!
I’ve been dying to try Bait & Hook, and I have to say that I’m definitely disappointed. Firstly, I’ve never been to a place that serves warm, flat soda in a glass with ice. Secondly, our waitress disappeared for a bit—and I spotted her at the bar with another waitress, eating dinner. 🤦🏻♀️ The fish & chips was decent, but the portion size for the fries seemed a bit small. My dad was also pretty disappointed with the portion of the lobster. All in all, this place was just mediocre. 🤷🏻♀️
Happy hour oysters for $1.50 is not a bad price point but they were quite small (refer to photo). Service was good but there's no a/c which is unacceptable in 95 degree weather. Hope they have a/c next time
The happy hour is great but that's about it. The have a new menu that got rid of our favs. The fish and chips was more batter than fish but the fish was flavorful. Oysters are $1 during happy hour but they make you buy $6.
A place with a great location and opportunity but mediocre execution. The menu offers solid typical American seafood selections but the cooking is lacking of details. The fish and chips we had was fried to perfect but the fish was not drained so soaked in oil on the plate. The Happy hour food is okay but the portion was on the small side. Overall it was okay but I probably won't go back even though I live close by.
Went for happy hour to celebrate a colleague moving on. The food was decent but the drinks taste like complete rubbing alcohol. I understand that happy hour is bottoms shelf but I’d prefer to have a drink that doesn’t disintegrate my throat. They also had ran out of wine for the happy hour option.
We miss the dollar tacos but we were still able to get two drinks at happy hour price. The regular price for the tacos were four for $12 so they were reasonable. My friend got the shrimp and I got the fish and we shared. Drinks were a decent. I would go back just to get the dollar tacos for Taco Tuesday happy hour
This place is a hit or miss. I have been here 3-4 times as it is in the neighborhood. 2 out 4 the food and drinks were great. However the other 2 were horrible. White wine was warm, fish tacos had no taste and the fish and chips were boring and greasy! A lot of staff turnover and obviously not experienced. Hope they can get it together as it is a prime location.
Had to argue with the bartender cause we supposedly had fakes... drafts tasted a bit off. Oysters were what'd you expect for happy hour, small and not the sweetest. Tacos are pretty worth for a dollar. Would not come again.
The food were good. However, I wasn't satisfied with service in his place. Firstly bartender mistake with bottles, so me and my friend were drinking different wine than we actually ordered. And keep your eye on the check. When we receive the bill, I was very clear on how much to charge from my card and waitress repeated what I said. However, when I receive the check it was over charged from my card and my friend got less change. Even if it was just couple dollars it made overall experience unsatisfied. Unfortunately, I will not eat here again.
I was there with a party of 5 for lunch on Sunday. 6/19. Three of the five main courses were not bad even possibly good. Two were not. The shrimp basket and buffalo cauliflower were not. The service was unacceptably slow. But the cherry on top of the sundae that put this place on the "never return to" list was a charge on the bill that I didn't notice until I got home. It was a surcharge for paying by credit card and amounted to 4% of the total bill, including tax ! ! There was no notice of this charge on the menu and was not told to us by the server. Steer clear of this place ! !
I've eaten here a couple of times, I think the food I've had is fine but yesterday there were a few issues. I had the Calamari appetizer, which was very good. I also ordered the burger, with no raw onions. They must have put the onions on it, and then taken them off, because the burger had a strong raw onion taste. I took a couple of bites, but I couldn't eat it. It's not an allergy issue, just a strong dislike, but I can't eat raw onion at all, in anything (I know I am the exception!). I ordered a Diet Coke to drink, and I don't know what they're serving but it wasn't Diet Coke. I don't even think it was Pepsi. Either way, the server should let you know. I would have stuck with water. I asked for the check and the server didn't ask if everything was OK etc. So I just paid and left. I'm sure the burger issue wasn't her fault, but I would think they'd like to know why someone left without eating much of their meal.
Service was mostly great but they are incredibly understaffed: our server, Hannah, was incredibly nice. However, the wait times for food are horrendous. We ordered 2 rounds of beer, oysters, mussels, and tacos. We got the oysters, which were fine but smaller than expected. The mussels, tacos, and 2nd round of beer did not arrive after 1 hour so we had to cancel and ask for the bill. In the 1.5 hours we were there, I only saw one out of 10 tables get any food. While they are still understaffed, I would not recommend going.
Food was terrible. I had fish tacos you could smell the stench from a mile away. It taste as nasty 🤢 the way it smell. I also ordered wings which was actually good and a soft drink lemonade. How can you mess up on a non alcoholic drink. Lemonade taste like sprite mixed with who knows what! It definitely was not lemonade. Overall this place is terrible.
Placed should be renamed the Bait and Switch. Was curious about this place and finally went for their Thursday all day happy hour. Wasn't worth the trip. While the $1.50 oysters are a bargain they are very small fora seafood place. Nonexistent drink menu selection for happy hour unless you like cheap wine. I ordered non-happy hour drinks at full price and they was barely any liquor in it and I'm a lightweight drinker. Also ordered the Kung Pao calamari which while delicious seemed like a child's portion it was so miniscule. Waitress took forever to serve the drinks and food and the place was nearly empty. The place isnt looking to cater to locals like me. It's more a tourist trap.
Do yourselves a favour and never go this place. The bartenders were drunk and one of them forgot to send the food order to the kitchen. We waited 45mins and then the other bartender placed the order' waited for another 30mins and the serving portion was so small and not tasty at all. Plus they served the wrong food. We had asked for steak taco, gave us shrimp instead. They also gave the wrong check to the customers sitting beside us. I'd rather hang myself than go here.
**Extra credit card surcharge!!** Came here for happy hour oyster. The oyster is 1.5$ each and is generally not that fresh. I ordered 18 oyster and had 1 bad oyster that went rotten (smell & taste absolutely bad) The dishes came real slow. The only good thing is the service person is really nice. He apologized for the rotten oyster and replaced me a fresh one. Overall, not recommended for oyster happy hour. 1.5$ could get better oyster in the town.
If i could do no stars I would. Very mediocre. I ordered several things all of which were unbelievably disappointing. The Instagram pictures are the best thing about this place. Crab cakes: So mushy no texture at all and DRY. Served with a pinch of under-dressed salad. Fries: How do you mess up fries? (enough said) Lobster Mac&Cheese: Horrendous. Not sure who's recipe that is but please send it back from whence it came. BLAND BLAND BLAND and most importantly it was not cheesy!! instead it was a weird almost watery texture. How can you served uncheesy- mac&cheese ?? Drinks: Beer was luke warm both times. i literally could not have gotten the check faster. THEY ARE NOT REALLY SOCIAL DISTANCING. I think maybe towards the end around 8 they started add more tables in the in between spots but people weren't really into it and left. Anyway this place was underwhelming and just blah. Weird fishy smell everywhere. Not the normal seafood smell at all. Won't come back.
