Hidden gem with a great ambiance. Perfect for a proper dinner, but without the extra fuss. We had the (50oz!!!) Tomahawk Ribeye special, sweet ‘n’ spicy brussel sprouts and steak fries. The staff were wonderful, the drinks surprisingly creative and food was truly the best I’ve had in a while. Definitely adding this to my casual-but-elevated rotation in NYC. Our waiter, Dennis, was the “cherry on top” for our evening.
Absolutely top-notch from start to finish. From the warm, professional service to the execution on every plate and glass, everything impressed us. We went with the day’s special—calamari and clams—and it was outstanding. The squid was exceptionally tender and the sauce had a clean, balanced heat that lifted the seafood without overpowering it. The clams were sweet and briny, and the whole dish felt really well thought-out. Our server’s recommendations were spot-on across the board, including the wine pairings. You could tell they knew the menu and actually listened to what we like. The ribeye was the showstopper: beautifully seared, juicy, and cooked exactly to our requested doneness. It had that buttery richness you want in a great steak, with seasoning that hit the sweet spot, flavorful but not salty. Service was attentive without being intrusive; great pacing between courses, water and wine topped up at the right moments, and friendly check-ins that never felt rushed. Altogether, it made for one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.
Out waiter Dennis was so helpful and gracious. The food was delicious and the cocktails were great. The atmosphere is lovely. We will definitely come again!!! ❤️
Absolutely amazing food! Everyone was so friendly and Maria was great. 👍🏻
We stumbled upon this place for dinner, and it turned out to be very good, delicious and atmospheric. We will definitely be back again, I highly recommend it. The food and bar were all excellent🤍🙏🏼
Amazing dinner we had. The service staff were fantastic. Thoroughly recommend a night out at Benny John’s. Come and let Manuel look after you.
Quick service, attentive and responsive. The soup was delicious and perfect for a cold day! Dinner was also good and had great flavor. Desserts were filling and good portions. Overall a good spot, average cost for the area. Pictured is the French onion soup, pappardelle bolognese, tiramisu and carrot cake
My husband and I came here for some dinner while on vacation. I ordered the bone in rib eye and it was one of the best steaks I ever had. And I've had a lot of them. Their steak did not need any sauce whatsoever. It was so moist and tasted amazing. Will definitely be back next time I'm here. Highly recommend!!
I had a great experience at Benny John’s Bar and Grill! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the place is spotless. The service was top-notch – friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious. Their steak and grilled meats are cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. But the standout dish for me was the Cacio e Pepe spaghetti with grilled shrimp – it’s a must-try! To top it all off, the owner is a genuinely kind and respectful person who personally makes sure guests are satisfied. A wonderful spot that I’ll definitely be visiting again!
Excellent service at Benny John's!!! Just take my word for it and get the LUMP CRABMEAT COCKTAIL!!!! And ask for some melted butter and go to TOWN! The CAPRESE with fresh mozzarella & tomatoes & homemade pesto was so refreshing. Perfectly grilled shrimp on the for the lunch salad! And that NEW YORK STEAK SANDWICH medium prime NY sirloin, mozzarella cheese, peppers, onions, potatoes, on a disco romana bread was AMAZING!! 😋😱🥰 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Excellent experience @ Benny John’s. Food was excellent! We started with a Steak Tartare and the Tropical Salad and both were delish. Our entrees were the Filet Mignon and Ribeye. They were cooked to perfection and excellent sized portions for the price. We ended the meal with the Carrot Cake and combo of the Mango & Raspberry Sorbet with coffee. Our server Shereen topped everything by being amazing our entire evening. She was the sweetest and even sang “Happy Birthday” to me. We shared a few laughs and even took a pic to commemorate the evening.
We had the best post-birthday brunch here! Shereen took the best care of us, and we had the best amaretto shots at the end 🩷 The lobster bisque was delicious and the sour dough bread complimented it perfectly~ The steaks were both phenomenal as well! We’ll be back whenever we’re in NY again!
From the outside this place looks a bit like a dive bar but the inside is nicer than you would think, but not pretentious, so dressing up isn’t required. The food is delicious. We had the tuna tartar and the calamari for apps, and it was the best calamari I have ever had. Not rubbery, not too chewy, just perfectly breaded and cooked. I had a steak for dinner and ordered it rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The drinks were delicious but leaned smaller, but I still left with a nice buzz so they weren’t skimping on the alcohol. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a lower pressure, high quality steak house.
We went to Benny John’s for a nightcap since it was close to our hotel and advertised all day happy hour. The happy hour drink selection is somewhat limited, but they still offer a good variety at a great price. I had the sauvignon blanc & my wife had the sangria. The sauvignon blanc was as expected & sangria was a dry sangria & not overly sweet. I had the apple cobbler for dessert which is really the reason for my review — and it was delicious. It was served warm and paired with vanilla ice cream. The staff was pleasant. Overall, a great spot for a casual nightcap and dessert.
Good spot, but not sure about all the hype We stumbled into Benny John’s after spending the day in the Diamond District, and overall it was a solid experience — definitely worth trying, but a few things didn’t fully match the hype. We split the porterhouse between three people, and for $120 it was honestly a great value. The steak was cooked well and tasted great, but I’ve definitely had better porterhouse at higher-end steakhouses (not naming names). Still, for the price, no complaints at all. Appetizers were the biggest letdown. For three people, the portions were extremely small — definitely not shareable, which was surprising. The bread didn’t come with anything special, so I skipped that and went straight to the apps. The drinks were a big highlight — they took a little bit of time to come out, but once they did, they were absolutely phenomenal. Really well made and definitely top-tier quality. Dessert was another strong point. The tiramisu was phenomenal — perfect portion, great flavor, and prepared really well. The Key Lime pie, on the other hand, was tiny and not really worth it. Overall, it’s a nice place with some standout items, but expect smaller portions.
Great customer service, okay food. Good specials. Oyster rockerfeller - 3/5 temp was cool.. oysters were so small, it was mostly creamed spinach. Chicken skewer - 5/5- juicy flavorful and onions are a good compliment Beef skewer -3.5/5 cooked well, not as well seasoned. Bolognese - 3/5 Carbonara- 3/5 Caesar salad 2/5 Mixed green salad 4/5 Ribeye- cooked well and offered to be cut from the bone. Underseasoned. Carrot cake 4/5 Complimentary dessert (the name is slipping my mind) - 3/5
