The meatball pizza is so damn good, I ordered it as a gluten free and it is probably one the best pizza I ever had.
Ben's Pizzeria is unquestionably the most authentic, delicious pizza you can possibly search for in New York. This is the place where many famous movies, TV shows, and more were filmed! It's a perfect city location, filled with stunning view of the Greenwich village. There's really no way to describe their scrumptious pizza other than perfect. I highly recommend trying out Ben's pizza, which has been serving satisfied customers for more than decades!
Ben's is the absolute best. Big slices overflowing with toppings and crust crispy enough to hold it all together without going flaccid. If you've seen the Louie opening, you've seen Ben's. Great location, been around forever and you can't beat their slices. Go get one!
The pizza here is a New York City treasure. Toppings on toppings. My favorite is a grandma slice with basil. Traditional tasting dishes are delicious. Call me crazy, but I go there early to beat lunch crowd. 11:30am.
#1 Slice in Manhattan! My boyfriend introduced this pizza spot to me on a late hot afternoon walking around in the village. With a couple of bucks in our pockets, we ordered two plain slices. I took a bite of the hot and crispy goodness and the cheese just dripped down and slapped me on my chin. It was love at first site! My boyfriend says the cheese is so tasty, it tastes like meat, lol (he's a big carnivore)! I've lived in NYC for about 7 years and have tasted other pizzas around the island. All I have to say is this pizza spot is my favorite...and if I could order a pie and bring it nice and hot to my family in PA, I would. Better yet, I'd invite them to the village to enjoy a slice and people watch around this eclectic area.
I took my family here for pizza today, 4/8/2018 (which seemed like a good idea). A homeless man came in while we were eating. He asked every table for money saying “I’m homeless can you spare some change.” When he approached our table (with my 3 small children and teenage daughter) he began harassing our family and staring at my children saying: “yes I’m homeless and I need money.” When we told him we could spare no change he insisted and refused to leave. The employees did nothing. Finally as he began to leave and swear as he left I gave him my last slice of pizza. He began to swear and call my husband the devil three times. My children were afraid and the entire restaurant stood up and left. The homeless man ran out of the restaurant with pizza in hand. The employees then proceed to say: there is a park near by and all the homeless come to the pizzeria and harass the customers.” He then showed us a bat they use for protection. We remained in the restaurant for a few minutes and in less than 5 minutes another homeless man walks in and grabs a straw. The employee says: “shoo, shoo..” From this experience I would say proceed with caution, don’t bring your family here and take your food to go!!! *Location: 123 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012
Italiano Sicily! It said that this store had been here for at least 80 years, it was a really nice place in the freezing evening of December, I tried their special Antchoke pizza, the Nonna pizza, the one with chicken and white sauce, and the one with lots of veg...
Thin, crispy crust with a tangy tomato sauce and creamy moderates cheese are the bar for the BEST hand tossed NYC PIZZA in the whole city. Fast and courteous all the while you review that old time pizza joint experience. Of your coming into NYC for the slice of pie experiance...this is your place. Tons of bars and shops and world famous comedy clubs right around each corner.
Classic old-school pizza shop. I've been going for many years. The pizza is solid, the location is in the middle of Greenwich Village, and the staff seems to work a big crowd effortlessly. Great place to grab a quick slice or Calzone. Maybe any component, alone, isn't necessarily 5 stars. But, put it all together, one of the greats!
Very good pizza at a fairly good price. The establishment has a new york street style atmosphere that also seems home-y. The pizza is 4 dollars a slice, and you'll probably only eat one or two slices. Although eating the food was messy, the food was very good and worth it. I'd recommend going here. The only bad thing is that there is no public restroom.
I had two slices in here as I was walking home from the bar. They were both really good. Their service was speedy and awesome. I love the way the pizza is always ready to go in NYC, where pizzas are precooked with all the toppings just waiting for you to come try a slice. This pizza does wonders for those who are at the end of their late night adventure and need something to keep them going.
If you're looking for a no-nonsense, authentic New York pizza experience near NYU, this place is worth a visit. It might not be the most polished spot, but it serves up some seriously delicious slices, and sometimes, that's all you need.
Dear lord, I’m in Atlanta RN, I’m craving Ben’s big time. Best NY pizza! Forever ago we lived in the WV on Minetta St. Newborn daughter and a wife on Broadway- no idea how perfect it is at 2:00am. Or any other time. Hey Ben’s, can you do a FedExAM rush delivery? I’d like a large cheese 🥳
One of the best Sicilian slice pizza's I've ever had in my life! It is crunchy amd chewy and that melted cheese is just amazing! Went here when I was a child and then found it up when I got older and the amazing taste has never changed. 100% GREAT QUALITY PIZZA!!!
I've been here manyyy times. The crust is genuine perfection. The staff is ALWAYS attentive and quick, the slices are phenomenal and super fairly priced...you really feel like you're getting that secret quintessential NY slice here. My favorite in the area.
2nd go round and was as very impressed as 1st. Excellent, crispy crust with fresh ingredients to top it off. Great location East of Blue Note and West of Washington Square Park... jackpot!
Great meatball Pizza and other specialty pizza selections
Absolutely delicious NY style pizza! Think and crispy crust, with generous cheeses and pepperoni! It was so large that we got a whole pie for five of us and had two slices left over. Whoever Ben is, really knows the recipe for perfect New York pizza! Not good for large gorups as there is only 5 tables. Atmosphere is bland but that didn't matter!
This is the place at the beginning of the show "Louie" where Louie CK stuffs his face with pizza before his set at the Comedy Cellar. It is a true New York slice, and it is fast and friendly. In the midst of Manhattan I got a slice and a bottle of water for $4. Holy wow. NYPD was eating there, too. So it was an authentic experience.
This is one of the better options if you are in the village and are looking for some very good pizza. They stay open late until 5:00am. The sausage pizza is my favorite. They always put a large amount of toppings on their pizza and know how to cook the pizza at just the right temperature. I have been going to Ben's pizzeria for over 30 years and the quality of their pizza has not changed at all.
The grandma slice is A1. Grab a corner slice and it's over😁. You're welcome
One of the best slices in town, bellissimo 👌🍕
This is singlehandedly the greatest pizza I have ever eaten in my entire life. My friend who has been in NYC their entire life said the same. I could not believe how good this tasted. And I was sober! That tells you a lot. Highly recommend. No better pizza in NYC. I'm literally going to book a flight back just to eat here again. If I were Gordon Ramsay, I would give this business all of my money forever and ever. Not even kidding. 10/10 11/10 Whatever the highest rating that your mind can conceive. This place goes to 11. Thank you for your service.
Great pizza place on the east side of Manhattan. The pizza here was fresh and tasted fantastic. I really enjoyed the cheese and sausage/pepperoni pizza slices I tried. Great pizza crust and great sauce with delicious cheese and other toppings. Service was fast and employees were kind. Overall, I highly recommend this pizza shop.
I visited your Pizzeria yesterday and i was suprised by how good the pizza was. The atmosphere was nothing really special, but thats exactly what makes it so nice and comfortable and familiar! Keep up the good work!
I’ve been coming to Ben’s Pizzeria for years – for me, it’s a true New York institution 🍕. Located right by Washington Square Park, it’s the perfect spot to grab a delicious pizza before or after a walk through the park. The atmosphere is lively, authentic, and the pizza is simply great. If you’d like to see more of my hand-drawn city views of New York, feel free to check out my Instagram or my website.
This place is really great! After a bad experience my first time having pizza in NYC, I was hesitant to try another. I definitely don't regret coming here though. The pizza is the perfect mix of cheesy and crispy and the service us really great! The atmosphere is what you'd expect for a pizza place. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here!
Very huge portions for the slice which is nice! I got the chicken bbq pizza and there was just too much bbq sauce and the chicken tasted weird.
This pizzeria claims the most famous pizza in the world. Maybe not the best pizza ever, but it was pretty good. They have many kinds of toppings to choose from. Price is average. I will go again and try their other pizza. The service was really fast.
Oh, I didn't really need this decent CBR slice, but I was glad to have it amongst my fellow Halloween Parade 2024 revelers. Took me back about twenty years!
Just the same as in the old days. I've been coming to the same pizza place for the past 45 years and no matter the owner or the cook, the crust is crisp, sauce is tomatoey and just the right amount of cheese. Traditionally seasonings: garlic powder, Parmigiano cheese and oregano. They also have heroes and ices. Still my favorite. No dining in, but on a nice day you can walk your slice to Washington Square Park and enjoy whatever entertainment is going on.
I've had the pleasure of visiting Ben's a few times. I had their grandma slice, and that's probably my go-to slice. The crust is crunchy and even, the cheese broke nicely, and the sauce was delicious. All of their slices are pretty solid, but I do like their grandma slice quite a bit. It's also on a really fun corner: Artichoke pizza and banh mi are a little bit away, the Comedy Cellar is a few steps down the block, and Washington Square Park is up a block, as well. The W4th Street/W3rd street area around Bleecker is packed with cool stuff and great pizza, and you can't go wrong with a stop at Ben's.
It's a joy to visit Ben's, the food is excellent, your people who go there I just ordinary people dealing with ordinary problems. The people who serve always cordial and friendly and try to keep things peaceful at all times. It is my pleasure to always goes to Ben's for my pizza and your enjoyment of the and then there's also the Chess store not far from Ben's. Where if I want to I could play a game of chess or just view the most beautiful chess sets in New York City with a quiet peaceful atmosphere and people who are there who are willing to teach you how to play chess so you can enjoy the game as much as they do. Try you might find you like it even if you don't play chess.
The size of the slice here offers great value in terms of quantity-money spent. They also have a fairly wide selection of pizzas to choose from. However, this is not the fastest pizza place in NYC, nor the most delicious. You can find better, cheaper pizza in the village, just nothing as convenient if you are trying to people watch while you eat.
Great place for a quick slice! We stopped in for a slice since they’re featured in Louis CK’s shows opening credits! Had few booths that we could sit down and rest at before exploring the city more!
Got the grandma slice because it was recommended even though it looks pretty bland. Interestingly enough, it actually tasted pretty good! That said the service and atmosphere was absolutely horrible so just go in and out if you really want to try it.
They kept me fed in my college days, big boss. One homeless dude called me a handsome young man, so I'll think of that every time I walk by here. Be safe.
Stopped here for a late night slice after a show at Blue Note. The pizza was pretty solid. Not gonna blow you away and far from a top tier slice, but it's good. I'd probably give it 3.5 because I was a little tipsy when I got it, but I'd go back again anyway. Pizza Adventures: Destination #60
Stopped here this late-afternoon for a quick lunch. Got a slice of veggie pizza for $5.69, the only vegetarian option. All pizzas are already made and heated-and-served on buying. The base crust (with the cheese and tomato sauce) was more delicious than the veg toppings. I had only appreciated the taste of the toppings in the past. Probably because the veg toppings here were not fully cooked from the quick reheating, while the base crust got super-enhanced. Overall, decent slice for a cheap price, something enough to address hunger on my way to Courant from W 4th St subway.
I loved stopping at Ben's Pizza for the great price and service. I ordered a classic Margherita slice that was ready almost instantly. The service is excellent. The crust is delicious! Classic New York Slice. Crust 5/5 The cheese was not great, but complimented the slice well enough. Cheese 2/5 The sauce was a nice flavorful dallop! 4/5
Seems fine until you try the pizzeria across the street.
Iconic pizza place in the village, with a slipping product quality? Normally I would give a strong 4 stars to this no-frills pizzeria, but the pizza itself was a let down on this recent visit. Underwhelming flavor and sauce basically dried out. Maybe I just ordered from old stock? Will still go back, with the hopes that this was a one-off.
Went for a buffalo chicken slice. The crust was burnt by the time they were done reheating it. Way too hot when it's handed over. Burnt the roof of my mouth in the first bite. Watch out. Walk a block down and look at other options in the vicinity.
I didn't have any big problem, but there was an interesting after taste that made me a little uncomfortable. It was also a little more expensive than I thought, but maybe that's typical around here. I'll probably go back to try another flavor though because it's at a convenient location
I was actually looking for whatever pizzeria was open at this time, and ended up here which is well whatever ok… 🤣 not the best and not the worst. It was a decent slice but definitely nothing special. Do not hope to get your mind blown here. I ordered a supreme and it was $6. Usual dingy pizza shop vibe with decent service.
Cute old pizza place but unfortunately both the cheese and pepperoni slices were disappointing for NYC pizza standards. Not enough tomato sauce on the pizza and cheese was tasteless. Pepperoni as well did not taste like anything. Service itself was okay. Also, pepperoni slices was $5 each and since the taste was okay, it was hard to see how the price was worth the quality.
If you are dying for pizza and nowhere else is open then this is your only option. Mediocre options heated up in a microwave rather than the pizza oven in front of you. Garbage.
$10 for 2 slices of chicken parm pizza. Too much! Just go to a dollar pizza shop they’re everywhere around washington square park. The price didnt do it for me 👎 Also ask how much a slice cost before ordering because they dont have any price mentioned anywhere.
The pizza was lovely however the following morning I did regret it. I would like to also add the staff tried to steal a bag I left behind. I’m not 1 to give bad reviews but there staff have push me towards putting this review. Compete liars and potential thief’s.
I just left after probably the 6th time in about 20 years of hoping to get a good slice out of Ben’s. I’m shocked at how long this place has been here and how consistently terrible the pizza always is. Meanwhile, Ben’s on Spring St, and please be careful not to mix these two up, is always a delicious treat.
Pizza had great crunch, size of the slice was great but I have no idea how they managed to make a slice of pepperoni pizza taste like absolutely nothing. Probably the blandest pizza I’ve ever had. Ended up throwing away half of it, just not worth the calories!
The people working here are very nice. However, the pizza has gone downhill. I've had slices of regular and sicilan here twice in the past few weeks and no more. Completely tasteless. C'mon guys, you have a legacy to uphold! This place had great pizza back in the day.
I got 6 slices of Grand Ma Margarita Pizza. He charged me $36 plus taxes on credit card purchase. A full Grand Ma pizza was only 30 dollars. He didn't even suggest me that there was a better way. Also, he lied to me that the full Grand Ma pizza would be smaller than the slices. I may not go there again.
Felt like I was eating nothing but crust. I asked for some napkins (wasn’t even given in the first place.) nobody gave me any, much less told me where it was… And the cook LIED about the price one of my pizzas… Regrettably, I got TWO! So mad!
Plain Slice frankly sucks. And Dough/crust lacks flavor. Nice fountain soda, though. * Edit to respond to restaurant’s response to review: Thank you for your courteous reply. I feel some guilt; b/c I don’t want to participate in hurting your business, truly. I even have friends who run a restaurant family business. I wanted to “call it like I see it”, but I also want to highlight the excellent points; they are important and valuable. The ambiance of this place is truly “classic NYC pizza stop, which is becoming more rare. I like it. A good fountain soda is hard to find, particularly in NYC. (The machines require a fair amount of cleaning and maintenance. Many places are just not doing it.) Visitors, transplants, humans in general—MANY are feeling they deeply want or need a “good fountain soda” I *highly recommend* your place for a proper, delicious soda break. As for my opinion of the slice I ate, your mileage may vary. There are as many opinions as there are New Yorkers.
Really as bad as a pizza place can get. I've passed by it a million times and I thought the Louie show opening gave it some credibility. The sauce left a bad aftertaste, the cheese was old, and the crust was so burnt it felt like I was licking the oven itself. I guess it stays open because of gawking tourists, aimless drunkards, and out-of-town students? Just go to 99 Cent Fresh Pizza instead.
Tried to charge me for the wrong pizza on purpose. They tried to force me to pay for more when I clearly asked for a different type of slice- super strange. They argued it until I called them out for it. Would not recommend on a late night- not sure how they perform during the day!
Pepperoni was meh but the Hawaiian was DISGUSTING. Canned pineapple and ridiculously disgusting processed ham.
Here’s a translation for your note in English: “Run-down and dirty establishment. I hope I don’t get sick given the state and maintenance of the kitchen and restrooms.”
The slice of pizza was not fresh at all. He grabbed it from somewhere under the cabinet and reheated it. Also customer service is horrible. They don't like you to ask questions or inquires about what varieties of pizzas they have. I definitely don't recommend this place. NY has way better pizza places. Just don't waste your money here.
I work for MTA transit security first time coming in here and when I walked in I asked was the pizza fresh and they insisted that it was. So I ordered a slice of pizza when I receive the pizza it had a old taste to it. I spent 6$ on the slice and 2$ on a drink I asked the manager would it be possible to get a plain slice or even for a discounted price because the pizza was old. He was very nasty about it and told me no I have to pay for it in full because nobody told me to buy the slice that I picked. HIGHLY DO NO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ….. there slice are old ….. customer service is horrible….. i through out the slice .
Literally out for the night and enjoying the food for about 15 minutes in. The guy who was cleaning told us to hurry up and leave at 2:12 AM when they close at 3 AM.
Pizza was clearly left out for a while and just warmed up in the oven. Very mid taste overall not was I like looking for or expected by the “best pizza in the world” sign outside. No refills at all and drinks are over priced and tiny. Do not eat here.
Really rude staff, there are 2 pizza server guys. One I saw them call random females “baby” and make them feel uncomfortable and the second I saw, when I went back to pick the rest of my pizza slices up he told me “yeah cause you were chatting with your friends you didn’t hear, wait!” in a really rude manner. Don’t recommend if you had a choice.
pizza is ok but wildly overpriced. 6 dollars a slice during the day is insanity when artistic pizza is equally good for less than half the price
Maybe it's the pandemic, but the quality has definitely gone way down. I really liked Ben's Pizza all the way till yesterday. Since I don't hang much in Manhattan generally after moving back to Brooklyn, I was rather excited about my slice last night, since I hadn't had one in some time. It was bad. Bland, extremely greasy and an overall unpleasant pizza experience. Maybe it really is just the pandemic.
If I could give this 0 stars I would. Horrible service and awful pizza. Got the buffalo chicken and it was with a marinara sauce??? So weird and the guy working behind the counter was mean mean mean
First off the pizza was good.I had a pepperoni slice..taste was good, but there was two older men (the mangers or owners idk)),that went in the back room I’m assuming they run the joint, they walked pass me snd didn’t greet me or say one word to me,(I’m African American)..and there was one other customer in the restaurant (a white man)and the two men came back out the back door again and walked right pass me like I didn’t exist and walked pass the white customer and greeted him and said hello to him so politely.I didn’t feel welcome there at all! I won’t be going back ever!! The cashier was nice!
Never in my life have I been compelled to leave a review at a restaurant. This was by far the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten in my entire life, please avoid this place
The pizza had an unpleasant burnt taste, but since I was very hungry, I kept eating. Then I discovered a huge piece of something burnt and unidentifiable—it was awful. When I brought this up to the staff, they acted like it was completely normal. Instead of apologizing, they just wished me a good evening and pointed to the door. This place has no idea what service or hygiene is. I strongly do not recommend it!
The guys servicing there were really bad. They were rude to us and did not listen to us. Felt like they were high on something. I wouldn’t rate the service there. The pizza’s were mid!
Never go and eat somewhere severely drunk people flocks to when intoxicated. Food is horrible, folks from the street with no pants on, covered in vomit and more will be in your face refusing to leave you alone unless you pay them. The staff will not do anything to prevent this from happening as well.
Guy behind the counter called me stupid to his colleague in Spanish for getting a plain slice from this place instead of getting a dollar slice down the block. My dad used to take me here which is why I came in the first place but I guess if even the employees think I’m dumb for eating their pizza then I’ll avoid it from now on. Thanks for the unpleasant experience
THE PEOPLE WORKING WERE SO RUDE. the pizza was mediocre and even if it was the best pizza in the world i wouldn’t go back because the people were so rude. on top of that i almost got sexually harassed by a group of guys that came in and i was extremely uncomfortable and the workers were yelling at me for no reason!! i was at the front of the line and counter waiting to pay but the got mad at me and made me go to the middle of the counter to grab my pizza and the worker stuck his hand out like i was gonna give him cash but i was paying with apple pay and he snarled and rolled his eyes and kept asking what’s wrong with me and im just a kid still there’s no need to be so aggressive pizza
