Fun, friendly, laid back, neighborhood sports bar. The bartender is great, and their menu goes above and beyond topical bar fare, featuring lots of island and Latin influences, and served with style. It's often pretty loud, but if that doesn't bother you, you'll feel right at home.
Bodega 88 was a wonderful experience. The service was nice and the appetizers were yummy (wings and nachos). The Sangria was good. I'm looking forward to going back and trying another drink of something I've never had.
Bruh! This place has the best chicken Sandwhich and honey glazed calamari you’ll ever have in this lifetime! Wow.. (it pushed me to write this review) Great atmosphere, Great outdoor seating and an always great music.
Love this place. Great spot to hang out on an afternoon or evening and a fun spot in UWS to people watch and Loads of outdoor tables, both covered and uncovered for sunny and rainy days. Great value drinks and food. Super friendly staff. 9$ steak tacos are a winner.
Stopped by here with my wife on Oct.23rd to celebrate my bday. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by, David(owner) who was sitting right outside. I have been here plenty of times, as the food and energy is great! We decided to sit outside since weather was still decent. While waiting for our food we had our adult juice(lol). It began to get crowded as we only sat for about 15 mins. Over all it was a great and pleasant experience as always. Food is always on point! Definitely worth stopping by!
Loved this place! Happened to stop in after exploring Central Park to catch some football and what a gem this place is! Great food, great drinks and awesome atmosphere! Definitely a great place to spend your afternoon!!
Great little sports bar with good tacos! We love dropping in from time to time to catch games on the TV's and enjoy happy hour specials. Also a hidden gem of a brunch spot on weekends. I recommend Bodega 88 as a local neighborhood gem!
I live and work a stone's throw from Bodega88. A true local bar with terrific food and drinks, they are a blessing to the neighborhood with deep roots in the community. Just walking by this place makes me feel good. It is the favorite watering hole for my staff and so we now have staff parties there to everyone's pleasure.
Great staff, food and atmosphere but, I don't believe you don't sell coffee or expresso
My friends and I came here to see the Copa America soccer match last night. Everyone was very friendly and hospitable the second we arrived. They changed the channels to show the game we wanted to see and turned the music off so we can have TV audio. Sindia was great! She was very attentive and friendly! We ate and drank and stayed after the game was over without feeling rushed. The atmosphere, food and service was great and we will definitely be returning!
Dropped my pet off at the vet across the street and stopped in here for a bite and drink while I waited. Staff could not be friendlier and the sandwich I had was the BOMB!! Perfect size and absolutely delicious. They have happy hour from 11am-7pm, which is dope, and their outdoor seating is spacious and well set up. I was trying to work remotely while I waited, and the server even popped out to see if I needed the wifi password! Literally the best spot on this block. Highly recommend!!!!
Chill neighborhood vibe. Everything I’ve had on the menu I like. My favorite is the Camarones De Ajillo. They have a great happy hour, even empanadas for $2.50. Other items I’ve had; nachos, shrimp tacos, fries, and all very good. Staff are friendly and efficient. Often good music and lots of tv’s for those that like sports.
Walked in for a meal whilst head Central Park and everything was great. We were seated and served straight away, the food was amazing with loads of flavour and the cost was reasonable. 10/10 recommend paying a visit
Really great! I'm not normally a huge fan of Latin food, but Bodega 88 does it fantastically. The food is always deliciously fresh, and has very reasonable portion sizes. I can never resist sweet plantains and theirs never disappoint!
Bartender makes great drinks! Happy hour drinks has quality taste to it, unlike other places where they clearly use the cheap stuff. Good vibe , good chicken tacos and Cynthia was excellent thank you for your hospitality! Will definitely come back...
Amazing happy hour. Food is unexpectedly amazing. Staff is super nice and very easy going.
Went here twice and so far everything has been delicious and cooked perfectly. You can't go wrong choosing anything from the menu. We loved the bodega burger the most. I can't wait to go again for more chimi fries!
Minority owned and thriving! Great service and the happy hour is amazing! I hope this gem lasts.
I always have such a fun time at Bodega88. It holds such a welcoming vibe, and the energy is always great. The shrimp mofonguitos and the empanadas (all 3 kind, Chipotle Chicken, Ropa Vieja, Spinach/Manchego Cheese) are a must, and they serve the best Cuban sandwiches outside of Havana. I always order 2, one to eat there and one to take home. It's a great space for small parties/events, for some drinks after work with coworkers and friends, to go watch the game, or even a date.
Came here for a drink on a weekday night. They have nice outdoor seating setup with roof. Guacamole and chips were very good, so were the drinks we ordered. It’s a lovely sports bar in the neighborhood.
We live around the corner and this has become our go-to spot. The food is always delicious, the drink options and prices are spot on, and the service is always fantastic. That's actually a huge reason why we keep coming back - everyone who works here is super friendly, fun to chat and joke with, and just generally super nice. The individual TVs in the booths are a huge plus too - perfect spot to watch the game!
Sangria , Mofongitos, comfortable seats. great lunch!
Bodega 88, located at 573 Columbus Ave in the Upper West Side, infuses Latin fire and soul into the heart of a bustling sports bar, making it a standout destination for both casual outings and passionate game nights. Pros: The moment you step into Bodega 88, you’re greeted by a lively, energetic atmosphere that’s rich with Latin flavor. The decor and music create a vibrant ambiance that immediately sets the mood for a good time. The bar’s creative cocktails, like their signature mojitos and margaritas, are crafted with a flair that captures the essence of Latin culture—bold, flavorful, and full of life. The food menu is equally impressive, with dishes like the empanadas and Cuban sliders offering a taste of the Caribbean that’s both authentic and satisfying. The Latin beats in the background add to the soul of the place, making it more than just a sports bar—it’s a celebration. Cons: While Bodega 88’s fiery atmosphere is part of its charm, it can also be a bit overwhelming if you’re seeking a quieter, more relaxed experience. The space tends to get crowded, especially during peak hours or big games, which can lead to longer wait times and a higher noise level. Additionally, the prices reflect the vibrant location and quality, so be prepared for a slightly higher tab, though the experience is well worth it. Overall: Bodega 88 masterfully blends the energy of a sports bar with the passion and soul of Latin culture. Whether you’re there to catch a game, enjoy some Latin-inspired bites, or sip on a cocktail that transports you to the tropics, this spot delivers a four-star experience that’s bursting with life and flavor.
Hidden gem! Best wings we’ve found on the UWS. The rest of the food was delicious as well. And the drinks—yum! Get there for happy hour for the best deals. As others have mentioned, service isn’t super fast, but it didn’t bother us as we weren’t in a rush and they were plenty friendly. Two thumbs up!
Delicious food, super friendly service, fair prices (we were there during happy hour though).
My husband and I popped in, definitely glad we did! We both had the habanero margaritas(pick your kick), guacamole and their version of grilled cheese( it's 2 sliders...the green chimi made the buns taste like garlic bread if that makes sense, the queso Blanco is a chunk of Spanish crumble cheese fried on each side with a slice of tomato and avocado)..which both were yummy..I'd definitely go back to try other items..
Great place to gather with groups, watch games and hangout. The food is particularly good. The shrimp and hanger steak tacos were delicious. This is a great unpretentious local spot.
Tired after a long flight and having to stay overnight in NYS, I wanted good tacos and a cold beer. Was a bit nervous about going into a place on my own as a woman, but I was greeted warmly by the bar staff and felt very comfortable sitting at the bar with my food and drink, decompressing from the day. The hangar steak tacos with chimichurri are excellent! I wasn't rushed, and enjoyed the atmosphere and the music.
Owner is a great guy and his staff works hard. Food is great and perfect place to watch sports. Recently expanded and has an outdoor seating option as well. Bathrooms are clean and maintained.
Was at private party. But i must Say the small.plates of various seafood cerviche was very delicious. The choice of drinks sangria mojito margarita was perfection i had one sangria i ordered and brought to me and later i was handed a mojito. Nice space but stool seats never comfortable for this short girl
Shows Champions League games! And has all day happy hour during the week until 7! Did a fantastic job finding each game we wanted to watch on mainstream channels. Would recommend calling ahead to see if they show a specific game if the channel is outside mainstream service.
The nicest staff on the block, and great for slightly more upscale sports bar food — don’t get the poké bowl, but everything else on the menu (especially the tacos and empanadas) is great. They have a ton of TVs for sports watching and cozy booths with their own individual TVs too. COVID summer July 2020 update — tons of outdoor seating on the sidewalk and in the street ;sectioned off safely), no TVs for now but same great vibe and food and drinks!
Fun spot. Extra space with TBs for watching sports. Lovely and loud. Good drinks.
Monday night, Cinco de Mayo for the Knicks game. Sat at the bar with my friend, regulars were in having drinks. We had some happy hour drinks and empanadas (chicken/spinach) which were great. Tostones were just as good, also had the arroz con frijoles, platanos and more pollo. All delicious, great atmosphere, everyone was friendly. Knicks won as well! Thank you for a great night, will be back again in the future.
The food and drinks are amazing. If you go on a Friday after six expect to wait for a table but it is worth it. The place is not too big and you can also sit outdoors on nice days. It was 4 people and everyone enjoyed the food.
What an amazing find in my new neighborhood. From Phoenix...I know good Mexican food. This place kills it. As a transplant looking for neighborhood love...immediate acceptance. So much love...quality food...the best happy hour. They don't need my review..they are that good, but our of respect I must champion them.
The food and drinks are so delicious. I love every single dish from their menu. Good place to eat during the day with kids and at night with your partner. The service is excellent 👌
Food was really good and the prices were reasonable. Good atmosphere and vibes. Go for happy hour!
delicious buffalo wings and great happy hour deals for mojitos. perfect spot for a sunday afternoon session to watch some football
Went Here For The 1st Time A Week Ago. And It Was Amazing. I Got To Sit Outside At My Own Little Table And The Server Was Real Nice. I Ordered The Pernil Tacos. They Give You Two and It Was Very Filling. I Also Ordered A Mango Mojito And It Was Mad Perfect. I Definitely Recommend This Place
This was a fun spot! Great food. Great drinks! Very accessible!
Bodega 88 is a sports bar and grill and it brings a Latin vibe. They have seating inside and outside, I went after work on a Friday and the place was packed but I sat at the bar. The drinks were great , nice and strong. I had the chicken empanada , fries and chicken sandwich. The empanada are small but they are on the happy hour menu , I was not a fan of the cheese inside but overall it was not bad. What made me give this place five stars is because their was a mishap with my order and I did not receive my chicken sandwich . They gave it to someone else , as a result I said I don’t want it. I’m not sure if this man was the owner or not because he didn’t say but he overhead and offered me another round of drinks , shot, and my chicken sandwich on the house . I appreciate that because he did not have to. I would return and try the wings they smelled great
The restaurant delivers an experience you won't find elsewhere. Every bite offered perfect texture. The ambiance makes dining better. Amiable, friendly, inviting, capable. I'm looking forward to trying their specialties.
Bodega 88 has proven itself to be a truly reliable and fantastic spot on the Upper West Side. The cool atmosphere and great vibe are immediately apparent upon entering. The staff is professional and friendly, and the quality of the drinks is consistently high. Most importantly, the food is reliably delicious. This is a wonderful neighborhood staple that I highly recommend.
Bodega88 feels like your neighborhood bodega grew up, got a passport, and discovered bold flavors. The bar serves wings that mean business: crispy skin with just the right snap, sauced to perfection without drowning the flavor, and balanced with cool ranch plus carrots and celery. It’s makes you forget small talk.
Great food and service! Come here for happy hour or any hour for that matter! You will not be disappointed. The food is on point, the drinks are great and the staff are fun to be around!
Loved the vibe at Bodega 88! Stopped by for happy hour and it exceeded expectations. The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, and the service was attentive and friendly from start to finish. The cocktails were fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. There were vegetarian options on the happy hour food menu. Great energy—I’ll definitely be back!
We were walking through Central Park and decided to stop at a random place for a beer and restroom and found this gem. The beer was great, the cocktails were great, the sangria was great, and the service was phenomenal- warm, welcoming, and generous. We'll definitely be back for rhe food later, everything passing by us looked delicious
Bodega 88 never disappoints. With Latin-inspired dishes and delicious drinks, we love the sangria, you'll always leave full, happy, and a little buzzed! I absolutely love their nachos, too. Arguably the most unique part about Bodega 88 is their 5-6 booth seating options that have their own small TV! If you can snag one of these spots, you can be sure you'll be able to watch whatever sporting event you want. If you can get here during happy hour that's best, as their drink prices are a little higher than is preferable.
So far I have gone here on two separate occasions. The lunch special is good! Decent price and portions are good as well. Definitely tasty!! The second time it was for dinner but within the Happy hour time frame. Drinks were good, moderately priced and packed a lil kick. So far no complaints!!!
Open for outdoor dining with seating on the street and bike lane. Good Mexican and South American influenced food and drinks with some typical sports bar selections as well. Great place to watch a game (when indoor dining resumes) as many tables have individual TVs.
Went here as part of the Autumn Tippler. Had a great Fall drink, can’t remember the name but it was with apple & cinnamon. Also got the wings while I was here and they were delicious! Not usually a fan of dry rubs but the bartender recommended it since it was their house sauce and it was delicious!
Nice small cozy spot to grab a few drinks and have a bite to eat. Service is very professional The crowd is adults between the ages of 35-40 The music varies, no particular kind. The booths have tvs to watch Sports etc. Food is good, not a very large selection though. They do take credit/debit and cash No ATM. The restroom is very well kept. The place is clean. I'd definitely go back again.
4 1/2 stars. Food is delicious but mixed drinks aren't very strong. Clean, not too loud, can see tv's from every seat.
Good selection of happy hour specials, though crowded at those times (no surprise there). 50/50 on the waitstaff, one was very friendly and accommodating, another was almost rude at times, especially regarding a dog that we brought (we were sitting outside and dogs are welcome). One bathroom, so the line can get long.
I went during happy hour and it was pretty loud, but I'm not docking the success of the restaurant against it. Its a good place for drinks if you're going for happy hour but the happy hour empanadas were so small and not worth the 5 dollars each in my opinion. Hreat place to pregame probably.
The service was on point. The waiter was very kind and helpful. The food was delicious and the drinks amazing. A great place to chill after work or have a weekend outing
Great place with an accesible and fun Latin tapas menu. A great selection of beers and wines helps bring in the comfortable neighborhood restaurant /hangout feel. The place is small but lined with small TVs in every table for intimate game watching. More flat screens line up the top wall above the bar.
Lunch special is great. I work so close I often order the chicken sandwich or sliders, very reasonable/affordable price. It is filling as well.
I enjoyed my visit to Bodega 88! The food was excellent — I had the Comida Familiar ($24.25) with Ropa Vieja(+$1.25), and it was flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. The vibe was lively but comfortable, a great spot to enjoy a nice meal and enjoy watching sports. Yes, they have great TVs, too! The service was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Definitely a spot l'll be coming back to soon!
Wide variety of items on the menu. To be fair only had empanadas and a happy hour margarita. Margarita was a NYC deal at $8 but heavy on the sour and light on the pour. The service was poor with only two people appearing to be working. They were polite but either overwhelmed or apathetic. Intended to order a whole meal but opted to pay our check and move on.
Food was okay but didn't pop. Good typical NY atmosphere. Bartender was great but was overwhelmed. Didn't understand the staffing issues. I ordered chicken quesadillas. They weren't overwhelming. Atmosphere was nice but cramped. Won't visit again.
Overcrowded. Food is meh. Dirty tables. But nice people
Had the red sangria and my sister had the white 😖 didn't like the taste of the cheap wine they used when the Bartender asked my sister did she like it she honestly answered "NO" instead of asking why or make another suggestion I sensed a bit of an attitude 🙃 😑 😒 and I think he talked about us to his coworker who was looking in our direction. I didn't feel comfortable ordering any food and didn't want another drink I was done we paid for those nasty sangrias and left. A friend recommended this place 👎🏾👎🏾
$3 dollars/ each empanada is not a happy hour special. Beer at $6 is average as well. It’s loud here. Overall, it’s an average space
A group of us went late - after work. The service was decent. However, due to the hour many things on the menu weren’t available. The portions were good. The bathroom was good. 1 of the best things about the place was that it was open so late & the vibe was casual (not too loud).
Good happy hour drinks...if you can get service. Went with some friends for happy hour, and the drinks were decent and well priced. However, the staff was inattentive at best and, after we said we were finished, they openly ignored us to the point that we had to ask 3 servers and a manager just to get the bill.
The food was pretty good, as was the mojito I ordered. The waiter Rafael was nice and attentive. We left 20% tip and when we checked our bank account later in the day we realized the waiter had changed the tip to 35%. I’m leaving 2 stars instead of 1 because the owner refunded our tip money and gave us a $20 voucher, which we likely won’t use given the bad experience.
The food and drinks at this restaurant were enjoyable, both in taste and value, as they were not overpriced. However, the overall experience was disappointing due to the poor service. The waitstaff and bartender were noticeably rude, which detracted from the atmosphere, and the place felt uncomfortably cold during our visit. While the quality of the food and drinks was commendable, the service issues made it difficult to fully appreciate the experience.
I came here for the first time for the nba finals. The main room was full so we walked to the adjacent room. I was disappointed to see that the adjacent room only had around 1-2 tvs with the nba final game on and there was absolutely no speakers working. Decided we could deal with it bc we traveled a bit to get here..but we waited 15 minutes and no one came to take our orders so we left. We were super disappointed with the lack of speakers and poor service during a finals game. they didn’t seem equipped and ready for the crowd. Was not able to try food / drinks
Stopped in for happy hour. Atmosphere is okay. We had a mojito and caipirinha and one of each empanada. They were all good but underwhelming. Waiter took our drinks while asking if we were done, which we were not. Then promptly put a reserved sign on our table while we were still sitting there. Super passive aggressive. Could have just let us know they needed the table for a reservation. We left and had dinner elsewhere.
We were really excited to visit after moving into the neighbourhood and were hoping it could become our new Sunday football spot. Unfortunately, the service felt really disappointing. We ordered one appetizer first just to get something in our stomachs before choosing drinks, and our server seemed annoyed by that. The dish was great, so when he came back to clear it, we told him we loved it and ordered another. He was really rude about it and walked off. After finishing the second dish, we were talking about which drinks to order when he suddenly dropped the bill on our table without saying anything. He returned with the machine, and even though we were confused about why he wanted us to settle so early, we paid — including a 20% tip. Right after that, he came back and silently placed a “Reserved” sign on our table. There were multiple empty tables around us with no signs, so it felt pretty clear he wanted us to leave. It really seemed like they were annoyed we weren’t drinking right away, even though other tables were having a single beer and our food alone would’ve been a higher spend than that. A simple check-in or even asking if we wanted anything else would’ve gone a long way. Unfortunately, it felt rude and unwelcoming which is super disappointing because we were excited about have this spot so close.
Dont waste your hard earned money. Cuban was dry. Service was mediocre. Guy charged me "full menu" price even though we ordered off the "lunch menu"....then tried to explain that the lunch menu was only M-F even though it doesnt say/explain that on the menu. Rather eat McDonalds at least I know what I'm getting. Yuck. Nasty. Icky. Poopy. Over priced.
Pros: Great outdoor seating, amazing french fries Cons: service was incredibly slow. We waited 45 minutes for veggie tacos and fries. The tacos were incredibly salty to the point they were inedible. I didn't eat them, but the server still refused to take it off our bill.
I arrived for the Super Bowl at 6pm ordered food at 615 and waited until 820pm and decided to leave because the food still hadn’t been served. This place is unable to host any events.
the service was terrible and the staff was rude - at one point rolling their eyes at us. we got charged for top shelf liquor when we did not request it, we did not get happy hour pricing, and the craziest part was we got charged $8 for mules and then another $15 for the vodka that went in them? horrible experience would not recommend
Terrible experience. I will never come here again and I will tell all my colleagues not to spend their money here. One of the managers (I assume giving his power trip) was rude as hell. He literally took cups away as people were still drinking them. But only happened to the table with 4 people of color. Treated the white patrons like royalty even though we were also spending money. Honestly people shouldn't waste their time here when there are places on the UWS with much better food and drinks that aren't watered down.
