Best burritos of new york. love this place.
One of the best burrito places in city, almost California good, almost. Vegan options are very good. Make sure you know what you want before you call, they're very busy. Think soup guy order precision.
This location may be small but it is great for stopping in to have an excuse to get out, grab some food and head out. The service is prompt and friendly, in a timely manner, despite the crowds. Food is savory and leaves you wanting more. Sauce containers may look small but the sauces pack the punch and are just the right amount for your meal. Nice amount of tortilla chips are given with enough salsa to satisfy any remaining hungers if you're still breathing after taking down one of their plump burritos.
**Plant Based Dieting Friendly** Think of this place as the generic form of Chipotle. You get more food at a cheaper price and the wait is a fraction of the time. Don't get me wrong, the line goes out the door sometimes but its still pretty quick. I've been working in the area for 10 years and their food is still great. They have vegan friendly options but a part of me feels like they grill the mushrooms and stuff on the same grill that they cook meat on. They have tofu sour cream and soy cheese as well.
This was the best burrito I ever ate! Huge, tasty and cheap. This is the perfect combination. You should get yours for taekaway, as the place is very small. But while you wait, you get free tortillas with dip. The dip seemed to be handmade, we took as much as we could, because it was so delicious. I can totally recommend!
Very polite staff and quite amazing food, highly recommend, and will honestly be coming back when we’re back in the area… So good :3
at first you're like "oh yeah that price feels reasonable for manhattan" and then they give you chips and four little things of sauce and salsa! the food slaps (obviously) but its plenty worth the price too!
These guys are fast and the best!! Burrito bowl anyway you want it!
A solid burrito spot in Hell’s Kitchen! The burrito is flavorful, TONS of vegetarian options, and everything is a reasonable price. 10/10 service as well - the woman at the counter answered all our questions and even let us taste the chicken when we couldn’t decide between 2. I’ll be back
I ate here almost a decade ago and I still dream about these burritos.
Great food, tight space to order when quite a few people there, quick efficient, they offered to let us know when our food was ready whilst we waited outside. A heap of home made salsas and complimentary corn chips. We sat out in the roadside covered seating and enjoyed the location and people coming and going. Tips are paid into a container next to the till.
Love this place. Very good-sized portions for the burritos which come with chips. Burritos are down right delicious, been there 3-4 times and generally get the chipotle chicken. There's good reason there's usually a line outside, but you'll rarely wait more than 10-15 minutes tops from arriving in line to beginning to devour your burrito
So, I totally ordered this burrito with grilled chicken and mixed veggies, and let me tell you, it was bomb! Like, you could really taste the smoky char from the grill on the chicken. But get this, the order also came with this itty-bitty bag of tortilla chips and two sauces - one salsa and one red sauce - and let me tell you, that red sauce added some serious flavor to the burrito. Overall, it was like a solid meal and totally hit the spot.
The workers are very pleasant. The food is delicious. I tell you the best chicken burritos in all five borough. Their food is great, love it!!!
Very nice little spot. Service is excellent. Makes me feel like I belong here. And they serve you complementary tortia chips and salsa while you wait for your order. Haven't tried my meal yet but I bet it will be good 👍🏽. Update: this place was a couple of blocks from my school and I use to come here all the time while I was in school! Since graduated, I haven’t been back. Love this place, the food is great! Especially the nachos!
These are the best burritos in the city I’m convinced! And they have options for people who are plant based or vegan which is particularly exciting and they never disappoint! Do not however expect burrito bar to be fast ever. You will be disappointed. I recommend ordering ahead of time and picking up otherwise you can wait upwards of 30 minutes for a simple one burrito order.
Pre opera burrito run Don't you fall asleep at the opera tho
This is one of my favorite places in the city. I get food from here almost every week. I typically go with the ground beef, carnitas or steak burrito and always appreciate the free side of chips and salsa. I have never had an issue with the food here and will continue to go back. It’s also on Uber eats so I can get this delivered within about 15 minutes of placing an order.
Burrito Box is always great for a quick bite. Everything I've had on the menu has been very good. I do miss the bigger menu from before the pandemic (especially the chicken and mole burritos), but the remaining items are still very good.
I've been ordering from here for years and the food is consistently great. The grilled chicken quesadillas and burritos are my go-to orders. They also have great customer service when it comes to any delivery app issues. Thank you Burrito Box!
The best Mexican cuisine so far. cannot expect better. awwwwwwww miss this place already.
Excellent burrito and great service. Was able to order the food fast and eat some delicious chips and salsa while I waited for my food. The salsa was some of the best I've had and the chips weren't too greasy! Steak burrito with guac was excellent. Meat tasted fresh and everything had great flavor. I wish there had been a little more cheese as I couldn't taste it. Will definitely try again!
Compared to the nearby taco truck (and even Chipotle) it appears that this place is a little bit on the pricy side… however, their burritos are easily the biggest you’ll find around. Not only that, you’re given a “complimentary” side of chips and salsa. They have an endless list of options for their burritos, including more vegetarian options than I’ve ever seen. There’s no point in complicating it, their burritos are the best you’re going to get in Manhattan.
I’ve been visiting this place for delivery, take out and dine-in for almost 2 decades and it’s as consistently tasty as it was decades ago! Don’t expect any frills when you come in - staff is about the business, they run a very efficient operation. Good food, delicious salsa and a variety of beverages. Seating is limited inside and they have a few outside as well. Most customers tend to carry out or deliver.
Ordered steak and chicken burrito and they were ready in 7 minutes flat. They were freaking delicious. Seriously. Main thing to keep in mind: really a to go spot. Only seats for 4 people. Very small and efficient kinda place. Brought back to hotel and nom nom.
I placed a HUGE online order with them and I have literally no complaints. The order was ready on time. Every single order was accounted for and labeled. Their customer service was top tier. And they included lots and lots of fresh chips, salsa, and hot sauce. Would recommend to anyone!
Frankly, the best Mexican take out in a mile+ radius, if not more. Tiny place, some seating & standing counter space but not really for dining in during busy times, more for waiting! It's the typical well maintained " hole in the wall gem ". Amazingd full, tasty but simple bare bones stock burritos, tacos, quesadillas enchiladas etc with choice of extras.. Fast, fresh, and good meat and beans. They are always busy so you know yours is usually made to order. Bonus: Every order comes with a pre-packed bag of tortilla chips and amazing fresh salsa, Pico and hot mystery sauce.. Also, while you wait you can munch on the same tortilla chips and salsa and Pico also out for free and a big bowl plates and tongs at the counter. Double bonus: Large servings so probably leftovers for later. Be sure to ask for 1 more of any of the 3 sauces (red, green salsa or hot sauce and you get more of everything. Have an order for one you're splitting? Just ask for a second bag of chips too. All made fresh on site. And they are very generous. Lots of sides and a pretty decent menu overall. But again it's the go-to standards these guys are pros at. Irks:. Often a solid 10-15 min wait. They move fast so it's just a volume thing. And only gives your more time to eat the free chips (self serve but with tongs) It's about 2 bucks more for each dinner item than I feel is standard for burritos and such but hey it's Burrito Box. Very worth it. I lived a block away for many years and this was a staple for me. Now it's a treat when I'm in the area. Perfect for lunch or after a long work day where you had to skip lunch and are ravenous. Open late (11pm I believe but I'll fact check). Delivery available as well. Be sure to check out sister joint across street for sandwiches called Lunch Box. Very good too! Highly recommend checking it out whether you live near by or make a special trip to 57th and Columbus Ave. In nice weather walk across street and enjoy the goodness outside in the little makeshift park w tables and chairs!
Oh. My. YES. I rely on reviews and this burrito was so good I had to write my own. Solid, flavorful, HUGE, and delicious! I ordered in and it came so fast. I got the notification it was done and ready within 5 minutes. Definitely will be a repeat customer!
Great local joint for Mexican food. Staff is very friendly. Only downside is that there is not much room for dine-in.
Great little Mexican restaurant nearby. Loved it and would get food again from here!
I have eaten at burrito box for years now and it has one of the best vegan burritos. I no longer live in the area but sometimes I make the journey just to get the seitan burrito because it’s that good. Always give ya free chips and fresh salsa. It’s a pretty low key spot but you can dine in there if you can grab one of the very few seats. It can get pretty packed sometimes. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, it’s the best!!
Great burritos and more with vegan - plant based and vegetarian options vegan cheese, juicy satan, vegan sour cream, and even the old tofu. Outdoor sidewalk area for about 6-8 to sit at a counter. I've gone here for years here's mixed veggie burrito with added guacamole with a whole wheat tortilla! Brown rice available too.
This a hole in the wall Mexican joint and usually those serve the best flavor. This one hits the nail on the head. I'm from California so I'm super snobby about Mexican food. My carne asada burrito was spot on. The carne was tender, beans weren't mushy, the rice was to perfection. The salsa! Oh the salsa was the perfect level of spice and was on par with my Mexican MIL's homemade (probs better).
It’s my go to place after a concert or event at Lincoln Center!! This place is very good! They will include nachos with your burrito order and I just love it! Very tasty and good. I wished the place was bigger since sometimes there’s a lot of people inside waiting for the order and no place to sit outside. A good place to eat overall.
Very friendly, arrived with our 2 children, we ordered vegan boritos that was very delicious and fresh, recommended ! Not much are to sit though so keep in mind
Best burrito in NYC! They have incredible food, staff, and the price is pretty affordable. When you buy a burrito you also get some nachos and dips with it. Every time I visit NYC I make sure to come at least once, been doing it for a few years and the quality never dropped. Took my family on our last trip and they loved it. Can't recommend it enough!
I am obsessed with this spot, I come here pretty often. I never give reviews but the quality of the food is incredible and everything is so fresh. Their salsa is the best I’ve had so far - again, so fresh and so tasty
This is not my first time here. I like this place for its food, since is very small and most of the customers are take out and delivery. However the burritos and the bowls are savoury and well prepared for the price. I also liked the salsa and the tortilla chips they add for free with each order. Well done!
I have been going to this place for like 20 years. My mom, brother and I used to go almost every Saturday after my piano lessons and we were vegetarians. We always got the seitan burrito and it is to die for. It was the only place at the time that did it and the ingredients in the burrito are so good and fresh. The ratios are perfect. This place is so good that when I moved out of NY and went back for a job event, I HAD TO GO BACK AND EAT IT. Of course I ordered the seitan burrito but as I’m no longer vegetarian, I got the carnitas tacos too. Omg are the carnitas also to die for. I wished I could eat here all the time. The only con is that it’s a hole in the wall place and they’re popular so no room to really sit ever unless you camp out. Plus ordering could feel like you’re in a pack of sardines. BUT ITS WORTH IT!!! I have told all my NY friend about this place and will always make the time to stop for a visit when I’m in the NYC area.
I come here almost once a week at this point. I highly recommend the burrito, I typically get the carne asada. The beans are fantastic and you can really taste the grill on the steak. All the ratios are perfect in every bite, it never fails to hit. The quesadillas are also very good. Every order comes with chips and salsa which is amazing. 10/10 I’ll see you guys next week (maybe this week again too, we’ll see).
The very best Mexican food I had in a while. I have had the steak burrito, the chicken, steak, the pork and black bean (soft) tacos as well. Very tasty and well seasoned food. I have been eating here three times when visiting NY. Very recommendable if you want a quick bite for a very reasonable price as well.
Really delicious Mexican hole in the wall. The food is very fresh and full of flavour. Only about 4 seats in the place but most orders are take out so you can usually get somewhere to sit. There is free chips and salsa while you wait, too.
An amazing burrito with relatively quick service. The only downside is the price. Sure, it’s NYC but $15 for a burrito is steep. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed my food and would go again if I was in the area and in the mood for a burrito.
Food is great. They used to have daily specials, but that ended back December 2016. Chicken with zucchini burrito was my favorite, but alas, no more. The other issue is wait time for orders to be fulfilled. Often I have to wait 15-20 minutes.
Just stated to work in the area and came to this place few times, i gotta say, their burritos are almost as good as Mexican joints in Queens, the first time I walked here I thought i would be getting something like TacoBell. But WOW it really has lots of flavor for a Manhattan joint. My favorite is the carnitas burrito. They also serve signature Mexican sodas which taste SO GOOD! get yourself a Jarritos, i recommend, Tamarind, Grapefuit, Mandarin the ones i love the most. Price is extremely reasonable and if you are one of those people that dont eat much, you might want to share with someone else, its a FAT burrito. and it comes with some chips and salsa! Decor: welcoming, colorful tiles that tell you, "this is a Mexican flavor joint" and they mean it. THANK YOU, if anything a smile would complete the yummy food they serve here.
Great food, wonderful staff. We stopped in on a Saturday for a late lunch and were very happy with the food. We all agreed we will definitely be going back next time we're in the area. One negative was eating in not a comfortable option. It's small and only seats 5 on small metal barstools. If any other customers come in while you're there it starts feeling claustrophobic quick. So get it to go and enjoy!
Always kind, always delicious. Sometimes there’s a little waiting time- but honestly considering the volume of orders they get, it’s impressive how fast they are! Good amount of vegetarian options
I've gone here a handful of times and would probably go more if it were closer. I've only ever gotten the burritos but they are damn good. I'm a carne asada fan and the one from burrito box does not disappoint. There is a smokey char to it and well marinated. The burrito itself is a large portion and while it is more expensive that chipotle, the portion and quality is much higher. No cilantro lime rice here though. There is really no atmosphere. It's a basic takeout joint with some areas for a quick in store bite. The service is attentive and fairly quick despite how busy they usually are. Bonus is every order comes with chips and salsa!
solid mexican place! got the carnitas tacos and they come in twos- they were bigger than I was expecting and filled with a lot of meat. they also come with a small bag of tortilla chips which I was pleasantly surprised by, and everything came in just over $10 so I'd say well worth the price
Its my go to place for lunch the days I'm on Fordham campus. The food is tasty and they prepare it fast. It's more of a takeout place though as they have very limited seating. My only complain is that their Burritos are only one size which can be really big and heavy for some people. They should offer different sizes. And their nachos sometimes taste stale.
Had the chili con carne burrito on recommendation. I thought the parts were all tasty but the way the burrito folded meant that everything was a bit too compartmentalized.
The chili tacos were awesome. The shredded pork tacos were tasty but a bit dry. The chips and salsa included a huge bowl of very hot salsa but not a huge bag of chips. Lots of sour cream and extra salsa was included automatically. Ordering was easily done online through Google Maps. Total was $22.59
Small burrito joint with really friendly workers. It’s a pretty small space, but usually I just get my burrito to go. The burrito itself was a large portion but it consisted of mostly rice, not much protein. It was yummy though! I got the bbq chicken burrito it was around 14 bucks.
Cute little burrito spot. Everything I ordered was delicious. Only thing I would not get for the price, is the tostadas salad. Very small like kid size meal. And it was for my teenager it was very disappointed at the size.
Very good quality of food, taste, price. Tried their carnitas bowl and chili, did not disappoint. Would definitely try their other menu items.
Burrito box was good. Had the steak burrito which unfortunately the worst part was the steak which is just to say it was delicious and next time I will get a different meat. Burritos are huge! Come with side of chips and a couple salsas. Delicious. One of the better burritos in Manhattan I’ve had so far!
I ordered a vegetarian burrito with pinto beans and paid extra for guacamole. I received a black bean burrito and no guac. But I got tasted fine but it's not what I ordered or paid for.
I read all the comments so I came. For $20 burrito they put a lot of rice and very small amount of asado. It was good but not the best one I ate.
The food is good, but I've had more than a few times where you have to wait over an hour for 1 burrito because they are fulfilling online / uber-eats orders of 50 burritos for a party or something like that. If you are to go, I'd recommend ordering online so you get "in line" otherwise the wait could be around 2 hours for 1 burrito, depending on how busy they are.
Was recommended to stop here with a friend for quick lunch. Walk up style ordering with extremely limited seating inside and outside. Ordered a chicken ranchero burrito bowl. It was ok, very American style Mexican food. Pretty tasty and filling. Along the lines of something you'd get at chipotle I guess. The price was comparable, the portion size was quite filling. Came with a few packets of pathetic hot sauce. This is my friend's favorite lunch stop in the area, I don't know why. He doesn't know real Mexican food.
Please stop serving in those plastic containers!! In this day and age where we are DROWNING in plastics, we do not need more of them!!! And sooo many sauces in plastics most people do not bother using! Maybe, asking the customer if they want them, could be an option. And so much waste of air conditioning at full level...with the door wide open!!! The woman in the counter was delightful, and the food even better! Good job, but please stop the plastics!!!
I worked in the area many years back and used to like coming here for great burritos and tacos. While walking down 9th ave I decided to try to recreate that experience from 15'20 years ago. Was not impressed at all. Perhaps i now more spoiled with the quality of food in North Jersey where things are just simpler fresher and better made nowadays. But having sensitive taste i can tell you this place does not use the best quality ingredients for their burritos, at least not for the one I tried. Probably will not return
12/2022: Ordered steak nachos which was 15bucks. The only thing I hated about it was..... they used liquid cheese. You know that flavor.. the same one from used in movie theater nachos. Yuck. And they topped it off with real colby cheese. The steak bits were good though. BUT I will go back to try another menu item, just to be fair.
Don’t get me wrong I love the decor of the place but I would’ve expected it to be better food quality wise, considering it is selling Mexican cuisine to the public. After trying it, the price seemed unreasonable since the quesadillas were bland, no flavor besides the guacamole which had a little hint of spiciness to it. Would I get it again, not really, it’s a shame because this place could have so much potential….
First time here, $17 Carnitas Burrito very bland, chucks of meat, no flavor. When I bit into it all the meat came out at once. The workers were so lifeless, not planning on returning.
They make some pretty good food, I bought a grilled chicken quesadilla. In my own personal opinion for a small shop like this the prices are a bit high. It was about $12 for a small quesadilla. Though the food tasted pretty good, for the price it just makes me feel like it isn’t worth it. The wait time for the food was a bit long but it shows they take their time to make the food. The shop was kinda small so with the pandemic it did feel a little bit stuffy inside while waiting for my order.
This place used to be great but has really gone downhill. There’s nothing special about their burritos now and they’re honestly kind of bad.
I had visited this place along time ago and was back in the neighborhood so I decided to try it out. I don’t know whether it’s the pandemic but the quality is gone, the salad were out of a jar, not freshly made, the tortilla was cheap and sticky. I got the veggie tacos and salsa chips. The tacos was so disappointing, uncooked, white tortilla with boiled vegetables inside. I kid you not, vegetables had no flavor, absolutely no seasoning, and they were just literally boiled pieces of vegetable like you would feed to a sick person. Maybe it still has a couple of good items that are hits on the menu, but this is not any of them. I do like supporting local businesses, but it’s very hard to support this one after tasting this food. Gave an extra star for price point, but they would be better off, increasing the price point and bring back some of the quality that used to be many years ago
Definitely the worst burrito I’ve had in my life. Easily the worst food I’ve had in years. Feel like I’ll probably be sick. Wouldn’t be worth it even free
I visited Burrito Box for lunch and ordered two of their burrito bowls. While the ingredients looked appealing, we were disappointed to find that the flavors were seriously lacking. The rice was bland, the beans were mushy, and the chicken was dry and desperately needed sauce. Even the salsa and guacamole tasted mass-produced rather than fresh. Overall, Burrito Box served up an uninspired and forgettable meal that left us feeling let down.
I really don't usually write reviews, but this has got to be the worst $17 steak burrito I have ever tasted -- not only does it have too much rice/beans, it also has no flavor. For $17, I expected a lot more than what I got.
Alway inspect your bag before leaving… don’t be like me. I ordered 4 tacos. They only gave me two. I’m literally so annoyed rn.The carnitas and carne asada. Porque solamente me ponen 2 en la funda. Era para yo y mi ama.I only noticed when I got home. So even if you tip they play in your face. Noted. Won’t be back ever.
I recently visited this place for the first time and had their Grilled portobello burrito which was completely flavorless. The burrito was just filled with beans and some portobellos without any flavor/seasoning/cheese (also not sure why either the burrito or the portobellos weren’t grilled). They gave some hot sauce on the side if that counts as flavor. The dude at the counter was cold for no reason as at least one other reviewer mentioned. Save your money and go to Chipotle instead.
This place baffles me with their sheer lack of respect and courtesy with their customers. To begin, I ordered a burrito and explicitly wrote no beans because my girlfriend is allergic to beans and the burritos come filled with beans (almost like they did extra beans). I re-order another one for her and this time call them to ensure no beans and multiple times I am left on hold for 20 plus minutes. This is absolutely ridiculous — a blatant disregard for customer safety. I used to go to this place weekly, but they have lost a customer today.
Steak quesadilla that was dry and chewy and grilled chicken nachos with artificial nacho cheese and NO refried beans for $15? Barely any toppings, the sides they give for the nachos are super tiny and not enough for all the chips you’re getting and the meat isn’t flavorful. Did I mention the artificial cheese? Once again for the price you should be giving real shredded cheese on your nachos. No idea how this place has great reviews. Stop by your local taco truck for much better food at a better price or even Taco Bell which is more flavorful than this place.
Quality has significantly gone down over the last couple of years. The tostadas are always burnt and the ingredients are not as fresh.
