A very good steak, in the heart of Manhattan, but a bit further away from the crowded tourist part. It was honestly a very good meal
Doesn't look amazing from the outside, but wow what a surprise. We had a couple of steaks, and i would rate this 10/10. Very friendly staff, and an amazing meal. Welldone to the chef
Best bar anywhere near Columbus Circle. Food is outstanding. Service is even better.
A perfect place for great food, drinks, sports, & music - the bartender John is awesome and is the #1 reason why I return he keeps you laughing and makes sure you're having a great time
First time here had the Matt's burger which was GREAT. Good service, nice atmosphere.
This is a great bar, the attention is perfect and the drink is great !! Happy New Year !!!
I'm in love with their hot roast beef sandwich for lunch. I could eat it everyday.
Good is great and the live jazz makes for a very good time!
Had an amazing time during NYE! Great drinks!
This the best to eat burgers and stakes. Good price
Best bartender on Friday & Saturday.
Awesome burguer and cozy place
Excelente bar a metros del Central Parck. Muy buena atención, buena comida. La barra invita a probar cada trago y cerveza acompañado de una decoración estilo irlandés. Baños limpios. Mí próxima visita a Manhattan volveremos sin dudas.
Great food and incredible staff. Walked in to make a reservation and the sweet lady scrawled it down on a bar napkin. It is a small place with only a couple tables and a bar. The tables are very close to each other, so you may meet some new friends! The steak is great, but what really made our experience there so wonderful was the friendly staff.
Went there for lunch during our trip to NYC in May 2012. Since I'd just found it online by looking for places in that area of the city, I wasn't sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. We got there just as they were opening and snagged a seat in the window. All three of us enjoyed our lunches with not a single complaint. I had the special that day and it was excellent! I will definitely eat there again the next time we go back.
Awesome service, excellent food. I had small brunch here with family. The space is intimate and great for small groups. I happened to be there while the live band was playing and the music added to our dinner not detracted.
I just want to Say I love this Place I have been coming here since 2008. The food is always Excellent the Staff are Amazing!!! Drinks are to Die for ÷) My favorite is Everything on the Menu. It feels Great to go to a place that has a Welcoming atmosphere.
So I recently started a new job in the neighborhood (Feb 11th actually) and I have not eaten outside of my cubicle or building since then. My last job also resulted in mostly in-office lunches and not many opportunities grabbed to walk around and get fresh air. With my not taking lunch yesterday until 3pm, the company cafeteria being closed and the BEAUTIFUL afternoon weather I decided to go out for a bit and was aiming to bring lunch back to my "workstation"...but then I found Matt's Grill. I was greeted by the awesome bartender on staff, Nuala (pronounced Noo-la), who was a really pleasant and friendly woman with a charming Irish brogue. She informed me that wine and beers for ONLY $1 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) with the purchase of lunch. I informed her that I had indeed known this thanks to the sign outside and I signed up immediately for a delicious red, red wine. For lunch I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and cheddar cheese. Was supposed to come with tomato, but I asked them to hold it and it comes with a smokey jalapeno mayo which I asked for on the side because I'm a huge pussy when it comes to anything with the word "jalapeno" associated with it. My sandwich was pretty fantastic if you take all things into consideration. My chicken was a really healthy amount of juicy, white meat, chicken breast that was nicely charred and not flavorless in the least. A friend of mine who had been here before noted on my instagram photo that he felt this place has bland food - granted that I've only eaten here once I have to disagree based on my lunch and my observing the lunches of the folks around me at the bar. This is very much an Irish pub/grill type place - if this sandwich were from an Indian or Latin place then yes, it would have been insanely bland - but you know what you're getting yourself into when you go to a regular neighborhood grill place - my sandwich was fantastic as were my french fries. So crunchy and potato-ey. My $9 lunch was divine along with my $1 glass of wine that was poured into a small, traditional carafe and really turned out to be two nicely-sized goblets full (so really almost $1 for TWO glasses of wine) - not to mention that my lunch portion was also super generous and could have easily turned into lunch and dinner...but I'm a food monster so I crushed it :). Matt's grill is not only a bargain, but delicious and they have a pretty impressive selection of bourbons (no idea why exactly I noticed this, but I did). I'm so happy that I stumbled upon this gem and I really, really look forward to coming back here and trying something new. I've heard positive things about their meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Mmmmm, potatoes.
;o) Familiy-owned restaurant with really good food, partly daily changing, fine beer and really nice waiters and waitresses. I've been in NYC from April 26th to May 2nd, 2015 and returned to Matt's every night. I didn't eat anything twice, because I had to try out everything. The french fries, burgers. cesars salad and so on are awesome. A big thank you to Anna from the Czech Republic and Julia!!! You both made my day with friendliness and a good sense of humour! ;o)
We got two burgers, Chicken Pot Pie, a Blackened Pork Chop, and a child's Penne Alfredo. The service was excellent, food delicious, and coffee average. The regular and sweet potato fries were a highlight! it was great to find this place, and just walk in, even though we didn't have a reservation. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. We would come here again.
great atmosphere, and amazing music
Great service, good food. Sunday/Monday $18 dinner specials are awesome!
Great hamburgers. Soup is good. Nice place to hang out. Service good.
Nice small space, great bartender and the food was as expected for an Irish pub
Good food and service. Nice whiskey selection.
Um bom restaurante bem próximo do Central Park. Comemos um lanche de hambúrguer muito bom. A batata frita é sensacional e o atendimento é ótimo.
The place was very empty at about 4pm on a Thursday, but the menu looked good so my boyfriend and I went in and grabbed a table. It was very cold in there with the AC and the fans going but tolerable. Our waitress was very nice and the food was AMAZING! the wings were very tasty and hot, and the burger was one of the best my boyfriends had. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap bite thats very delicious. Also, really good french fries!!!
Nice small restaurant/pub with great food options. The service was quick and they gave us lots of time to look over the menu and they even served us complementary beer that night. Great people and worth checking this place out.
Fantastic cosy Grill house. Really friendly staff - particularly the barman who I couldn't help but over hear telling the same punch line of a joke to every customer..... so authentic and exactly the kind of experience we were looking for.... The steak was to die for and very close to where we were staying Times Square Novotel. Would recommend.
Bartender with a bad attitude, got irate when I charged $12.00 meal to credit card. In the past 3 weeks,I have dined at this place at least once, sometimes twice per day an always tipped well. Food is average,I'll be working here for 2 more months, she has seen the last of me.
Very kind staff but this wasnt my favorite place. I felt it was a little overpriced and oddly upscale but in a laid back setting. It felt like a pricey diner with a bar.
Matt's Grill is a bar with decent food options. We came here as a big group during lunch hour and they have enough tables to accommodate us. The restaurant itself isn't too busy so we were seated right away. I want to say the salad I got, Cobb Salad was great. It is creamy and they gave you a ton of chicken, cheese and bacon for that matter. It is definitely filling and delicious. One of my coworkers had their Chicken Pot Pie and honestly they put too much chicken in it and it did not even look like a pot pie. Some other people ordered their Turkey burgers but one of them was undercooked. We also waited 40 minutes for the food to come out when the restaurant itself wasn't busy. The waiter did not pay attention to our group for the most part either. I am not sure where they think they should be spending their time other wise? If not for the service. I would have given this place a higher rating. But for the lack of service and inconsistent food quality, I think this will be just fine.
Small pub for the area but delicious wings and burgers. This is definitely my spot for watching the game with friends. The last time I went, it was with a group of 6 and we were seated fairly quickly. The service was spot on and the bathrooms are clean!
The food was mediocre. The prices are okay. The service was also so-so.
I've found the service to be good- John, the bartender was quite friendly and amiable. One of the few places without a wait for a table to watch a sports game. With the exception of John and a visible TV, there isn't much else Matt's has to offer. Turkey burger was dry and underwhelming, wings were mediocre. I'd expect more from a bar\restaurant in this location.
It might be a good bar (I don't know... Didnt Have drinks) but food is BAD. Atmosphere is nice but not enough to make up for the bad food. We were a party of 6 and none of us liked his food...
Please don't go here. Bartender was a lunatic and was too loud. Food salty and dry, as well as being cooked incorrectly. The only positive was the TV and the nice waitress, Ana.
I have been to this place a few times only because my friend was working there since you no longer working there there's no point in going back.
Went in last night with my husband to have an all american food experience in NYC. My husband ordered the meatloaf and I order chicken. The meatloaf was dry and it did had taste at all, and the grilled chicken they promote is fried. Not healthy at all. So disappointed with this place.
I went here with a friend of an after work evening dinner. I ordered the Lobster wrap on the Specials list, On my first bite as I bit into to it i pulled a long hair out of the wrap that i also went into my mouth. I alerted the waitress and showed her the hair. At this point I am totally disgusted, she asks, "would you like another or would you like to try something else?" I decided to try something else I Ordered the Gilled T-Bone steak (medium). As i waited patiently for my grilled T-bone steak to arrived I decided eat some of my friends meal because it's been over 20 minutes. She ordered the Crabcake Frittes with sweet potato fries. The Crabcake on a Pretzel bun was fully burned to the point of the outer layer being black. When she finishes her meal and goes to use the rest room my meal arrives, about 30 minutes later. The Grilled T-bone Steak with french fries. I started to eat it and theres just something off about the taste so I ask for some A1 steak s I wait more than 5 minutes for it to arrives she apologizes that it took so long because she had do something. Even with the steak sauce its still terrible. I don't know if the cook was having an off night but everything about the dining experience sucked. I asked for the check I still leave a 15% tip because i try an support people in the service industry but what ticked me i never received an apology and when i was leaving the hostess who looked like she was in-charge and who knew about the hair, says, " I hope you enjoyed."or something of that nature. I had no idea how to react to that other than writing this review. My first and last time there.
