Food: Went with my girlfriend, it’s my favorite cuisine, it was delicious. Cashew curry is an old favorite, and tikka masala is classic so we tried and loved both. Not spicy at all if you prefer the mild side you’d enjoy the options here. And there were spicy options that I will be trying next time. Service: There were strands in our food that I was worried were something like plastic but it was just ginger and the manager and server were very attentive to the request to check. Also we did have a reservation that we were on time for but had a 5+ minute wait. Not a huge issue for me but it should be mentioned. Atmosphere: We dined around 7:30pm, it was quite busy, all tables taken and a few groups waiting outside from time to time. Also I eat a toooooon but the food was quite filling. I left feeling satiated and honestly looking forward to my next dinner here
Fragrant delicious food combined with beautiful understated service make restaraunt magic at Chola. We were suprised and delighted from the first appetizer. Every course and plate was so well done! And served with quiet warmth and care. Absolutely coming back here with my family. This is the kind of place that soothes the rough edges of the world.
Had a wonderful dining experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, and you can really tell the quality from the first bite especially the meats, which were perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor without being over or underdone. We ordered the Achari Murgh Kebab, Royyala Veppudu, Tandoori Murgh, Mughlai Chicken Biryani, Malabar Parota, purani Delli Ki Papri Chaat, and Lamb Madras, and every single dish was outstanding. The kebabs were juicy, the seafood was flavorful, the biryani was rich and aromatic, and the lamb madras was cooked to perfection with deep, balanced spices. Each dish was oozing with freshness and taste. The staff were also very down-to-earth, welcoming, and attentive, which made the experience even better. This place is a must-try, and I highly recommend these dishes if you visit definitely coming back again!
Chola Coastal Indian Cuisine - Where every bite tells a story and every corner whispers elegance, where every dish is a work of art, and every moment is unforgettable.🫰🏻Everything from the grill to the plate smells and tastes delicious. We tried the Dak Bungalow Murgh Curry, Paneer Khurchan, Paneer Malai Tikka, Martha Stewart’s Favorite Murgh Malai, Chicken Biryani, and Martha Stewart’s Favorite Onion Naan. For dessert, we had the Kolkata Tomato Chutney—a refreshing sweet chutney with Panch Phoron and gulab jamun with rasmalai twist, beautifully decorated with chocolate sauce. The Murgh Malai was incredibly tender—definitely a must-try dish! The food was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. More than a meal, it's an experience.😌 The cozy ambiance and friendly staff made it a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy flavorful Indian cuisine in a welcoming setting.😋 This is a restaurant where people from all backgrounds—not just Indians—can enjoy the food. Thank you for the amazing service and for making our dining experience truly wonderful. Everything—from the food to the attention we received—was perfect. We felt genuinely cared for and will definitely be coming back! ❤️
One word to describe this restaurant is Exceptional! I can keep adding adjectives to fill the reviews but they don’t do justice to the food we ate here ! If you are in search of authentic Indian Food that does real justice to Indian cuisine then this has to be high on your list in NYC . We started with the Rupee Lager which goes well with Indian food . For appetizers we ordered Royyala Vepudu (Shrimp tossed with Onions and spices ) served with a side of Malabar Paratha. One bite of it and we knew we are in for a treat here . Perfectly balanced spices transport you to a nice coastal town in India. For entree, we went for the Lobster Ghee Roast and the Kozhi Chettinad ! Lobster Ghee Roast - If you want to feel what culinary heaven looks like, order this gem of a dish here and thank me later . The subtleties of the dish is beyond words. I’ve never had a better balanced ghee roast and that too with lobster which was cooked on point ! Kozhi Chettinad - True to the way they cook in the restaurants of Chennai this one was the perfect rendition of the Chettinad Curry I’ve had in USA but even that was overshadowed by the Ghee Roast ! Can’t remember the last time I felt so happy coming out of a restaurant! Thanks team Chola for the wonderful food ! God bless and keep up the great job! Highly recommend
Chola was incredible. I enjoyed the food and had lovely cocktails that complemented the food perfectly. It was an incredible space to chat with my best friend, and the ambiance was delightful. It did take a while for the servers to process the bill, but we were in no rush. Overall, I loved this location and the food; incredible quality for an incredible price.
Nestled in a quiet neighborhood somewhere between Hell’s Kitchen and Midtown east and not too far from Central Park is Chola. Our travels in the day had taken us far into the city towards JFK airport and then back to the Flushing Ganapati temple in the morning. Heading back, we drove back into the city which was not so crazy being a Sunday afternoon! Chola focuses on coastal Indian cuisine and hence you have the choice of dishes from Konkan, Mangalore as well as the eastern coast all covered in a unique yet traditional menu along with your favorite vegetarian and meaty curries that a lot of people always recall about Indian food. The Bong Dum Aloo was earthy and had a good round flavor that reminds you of the Panch poran - it’s the way they make it. Was a perfect go to with flaky Laccha paratha. The paneer tikka was grilled perfectly and the kurkuri bhindi was lightly battered to leave enough room for a splash of lime before you took a bite. The highlight was the Bhoger Khichuri which came in an earthen pot. Lots of ghee, very lightly spiced with slices of potato, egg plant and no surprises there in terms of flavors. The sweet mango chutney played its part very well. All in all good experience on veggie choices and I heard good feedback on their chicken 65 and the dak bungalow chicken curry as well. A perfect Sunday meal, at leisure, very well taken care and everything on point. I will definitely come back here and some of you all should too! The only intrigue was the Thanjavur Avial which geographically did not sit right for the dish but has stirred enough curiosity to try it next time. #venkysveggietales #chola #khichuri #chicken65 #coastalcuisine #dumaloo #paratha #chutney #midtowneast #centralpark #classic #traditional #modern
I ate everything then remembered to take pictures. The food was good, but it wasn’t as spicy as we thought it was going to be, but that’s okay. Asked for Happy Birthday dessert and they gave us a Happy Anniversary plate.. awkward. Get the garlic naan!! We used it to sop up the curry instead of getting biryani and it was so worth. Alc is really good. They had King Fisher which is so hard to find in the US (from where we’ve looked) and we only find it in India. Mango marg is always a hit and the Sour Apple Martini tastes like candy :)
Food is delicious. We ordered chana masala, methi matter paneer, aloo gobi and bhindi sasurwalli - a basket of bread and a lunch of appetizers - chili paneer, lasuni gobi and bhel. Except for the bhel, I recommend everything I mentioned. Ordered some cocktails and beer. I would come here 100% again for the food. Medium spiced, not too oily, everything great! Cocktails were so-so, they need to up their game! Place is tiny but everything in NY is. Servers are nice, very helpful. Also, the restaurant is supposed to have a coastal feel to the dishes but we didn’t feel that all at. Just regular North Indian-like food. Maybe their seafood dishes may provide the regional feel that it’s tagline claims.
Chola is a fine fine Indian restaurant in midtown NYC. The restaurant has reservations available and they also accept walk-ins. They have a very unique menu with a lot of dishes from the coastal side of India. We tried the Chicken Chili and Bombay Duck fry and both were very delicious. For the entree's we took the black pepper chicken and the Malabar paratha. Overall it was a great dining experience.
