Even though I know the neighborhood, I was delighted to recently discover Osteria Cotta when I was on an extended trip to NY. It was one of the highlights of my trip! It is the quintessential UWS neighborhood Italian restaurant. The menu has a very appealing menu, with options from “Small Bites” to full entrees. The woodburning oven is great feature, not only in terms of cooking but in terms of ambience. The bar is very welcoming and offers the optionality of dining there as well as at rustic tables.
Have always loved the atmosphere at Cotta. Food is v tasty, service is quick and friendly & drinks are strong. The back section upstairs is perfect for those wanting a bit more privacy and intimacy. Love the pork ragu!
I’ve being going to Cotta for years and I’ve never had a bad meal or a bad service there. You guys are consistently great and me and everyone I know love going back over and over again. I had my first birthday party there and everything was exceptionally good. Staff was incredible, food amazing ( everyone loved every item served) , pizzas, pastas, chicken wings, meatballs, salads - all was incredible! Definitely one of the best if not the best Italian places in all of New York City.
I had my birthday dinner with 10 people here and we absolutely loved it! We chose from the family style menu and there was plenty of food for everyone. We especially loved the arancini, papardelle with pork ragú, rosemary potatoes, and wood fired chicken. The service was amazing — they took great care of us and the vibes in the restaurant were awesome. We had such a blast!
Met my brother here while visiting the city last weekend. When he told me they had the best wings in the city I was skeptical. Boy was he right!!! Perfectly cooked, with a nice crisp. The show stopper...the flavor! Rosemary Wings! We're originally from Central NY where buffalo wings are king. Im am now torn. We also had a nice pizza with basil, a pasta dish and some drinks. Throughout the few hours we were there the servers didn't let our glasses empty once, whether it was water or adult style! Will be a must stop anytime we visit!
We had a great time out tonight at Osteria Cotta. The decor of this establishment has a nice old-world type charm. It is very cozy here, the food was excellent as well, and the menu pricing was fair. We will definitely return, Osteria Cotta is a fantastic date night spot on the Upper West Side!
I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, and what a pleasant surprise! The food is absolutely delicious, with well-prepared and flavorful dishes, all at very reasonable prices. The service is quick and efficient, perfect for a lunch break or a casual dinner. The large terrace is also very nice and the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal outdoors, whether you're dining solo or with friends. I’ll definitely be coming back!
The food here is FANTASTIC! I would say it’s the best Italian on the upper west side. My dish completely melted in my mouth. The wings are the best you will ever have. The prices are also super reasonable, a bit cheaper than most of the restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is almost medieval mixed with some upscale features. I recommend sitting upstairs.
Osteria Cotta has to be one of the best brunch spots I’ve been to. Great food, strong drinks and impeccable vibes. I had a fairly large party for bottomless brunch and it was a great experience. The mimosas were on point- stronger than I expected and tasted great. Because we had more than 7 people, we had to go with the family style option of salad, wings, pizza and dessert. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that at first but they brought out plenty of tasty food and it was actually a really nice variety. My only wish is that we had less salad and more wings. Service was fast and it’s in a superb area of the upper west side. Will definitely be back!
Solid neighborhood spot. The downstairs is more of a bar (but still serving real food), while upstairs is sit-down and family friendly. The orecchiette was tasty, and the pesto had a nice fresh flavor. The sopressetta and hot honey pizza was a great balance of flavors and a touch of heat. For dessert, we had the banana bread pudding, which was cinnamon-y and cozy.
Absolutely loved the vibe inside! Food was super mid (ordered margherita pizza, spaghetti pomodoro and baked ricotta). Everything was super underwhelming and unseasoned. The atmosphere made up for the lack of flavor so I would definitely come back for happy hour to enjoy the space! Staff were so accommodating and very efficient!!
Had brunch on Sunday and it was such a nice experience. This is a warm and chic spot with a nice menu. Two floors with plenty of seating but weekend fill up so I highly suggest reservations. Brunch menu is nice with egg dishes, French toast, paninis and the well known wood fired pizzas. Reasonably priced, nice wine list and excellent service.
Huge disappointment- hope I will be changing this review, I’ve been a big fan. But I was really flabbergasted when I was asked for “last call” for food and drink at 9:50 PM then place empties and lights on and cleaning crew in full force 15m later! I am alone at the bar with a full glass of wine and food! I have been going to this place for over 10 years and never had such an experience - usually closed when people finished their meals! No hint of getting kicked out. There was one other couple behind me equally befuddled!
Had an early dinner for a group of 7 at the upstairs area. Went mostly for the happy hour, but it does not apply to the seating area upstairs, only applicable if sitting downstairs or outside. We decided to forego the happy hour and sit upstairs. The bar and downstairs area only has high chairs. The outside area is not very attractive. Groups of 8 or more have to order from a prefix menu ($40 pp) We ordered from the regular menu. The pizza is ok. The lasagna was good. The calamari was good. The spaghetti was tasteless and very salty. The penne was ok, a bit salty. The salmon was ok. The branzino was ok. The chicken milanese was not good. Ordered a bottle of red wine (screw top for $38 ) was ok. The glass of Lambrusco was good The service was average. The upstairs feels dingy. The food overall is a 3. Most of it lacks flavor, and is very heavy on salt. It’s basically Americanized Italian food. Only worth a visit if you do the happy hour. Would not return.
Food 5/10 Went here for brunch and the food was alright. Got an omelette and the toast came out cold. Atmosphere 8/10 Nice interior and plenty of space, two floors. Service 4/10 Took forever for the food to come up, it was an hour until we got to eat. Disappointing. They gave us a free chocolate cake though as an apology. Felt bad for the waiter he was the only person staffed :(
I have been to Cotta a few times before and had very good experiences. So when my friends were coming to celebrate my birthday i thought this would be a great safe choice. I was extremely disappointed. We ordered a steak and asked for it to be cooked Medium, and the middle was completely raw as you can see below. When we told the waitress she said she would tell the kitchen but then all she offered was a free dessert and still charged us for the steak. i was appreciative of the free dessert, but when celebrating a birthday, getting a raw steak is extremely disappointing. I do not think we will be returning for a while.
