What a great UWS spot! Great food and drinks! Had my son’s 13th birthday there and the staff joined us in a singing celebration. Dave the owner was so nice to my son and my whole family constantly checking in with the table as well as the service team. Manager was also so sweat and they served our cake from outside, as if it were their own. This will be one of my dinner and celebratory locations moving forward. Food was absolutely delicious as well, which just closed the deal.

I wanted to take the time to review this neighborhood gem. It has been one of my favorite places to go since I first moved into an apartment around the corner from them over 20 years ago. Fred's has always had the finest service and their food is consistently solid. Upon entering you are greeted with a warm glow and are surrounded by photos of beloved pets of the canine persuasion. Whether one is dining in their main room or sitting at their cozy wood bar for a few drinks and good company, an excellent time is always had. Toasts abound, new friends are made and old ones celebrated at this "Cheers" of the Upper West Side. The pandemic has taken its toll on the restaurant industry, but somehow Fred's - fire during the pandemic included - has continued to deliver and endure. Long live Fred's!

I really enjoyed my experience here. I had an extremely juicy burger, the fries were great, and the service was excellent as well. I went here late in October and was told all the tables inside were reserved so I had to sit outside if I wanted a table. It was a fairly mild night so that was fine, but at peak dinner times, especially in winter, you may want to consider making a reservation as there isn't a ton of seating inside. I want to also note that my girlfriend ordered plain mac and cheese. Mac and cheese is front and center on their menu and featured highly. My girlfriend felt the mac and cheese was bland. Perhaps it would be better if she added stuff to it, but she does not recommend their plain mac and cheese which is unfortunate considering how front and center they make it on the menu. I plan to come back here.

We found this place after a quick Internet search of “family friendly restaurants,” by the Natural History Museum. It was a short walk from the museum but TOTALLY worth it!!! All 4 in our party loved what they ordered…which included meatloaf, a burger, grilled cheese, & tomato soup. All were delish. The service was great! Would definitely go here again.

Been here three or four times now and have consistently enjoyed. My brother always gets breakfast, and we always eat too late for that so I have a sandwich/ burger. It's just the right place for us. The restaurant is partially subterranean which gives it a nice enclosed feeling without being dark or dingy. We and others have brought young children.

I came into this restaurant at night to have New York steak dinner. My steak was perfect. And the vegetables and baked potato were tasty. My waitress was not the best but overall a good experience. They have a small bar and the place it's full of dog photos which is pretty cool.

Outstanding, cozy, great food and so friendly! Had dinner here with my family after a long day in the city. The host and waiters went above and beyond with my 3 kids(11,8,6). The mac and cheese was fantastic and the lamb burger as well. Highest recommendation for a neighborhood gem!

As a patron who has been to Fred’s on several occasions, I highly recommend it. I always have a lovely experience with Henry behind the bar due to his incredible hospitality, humor, and kindness! I will also say the manager Tracy is very kind and attentive to customer’s needs if I ever have concerns. Henry makes excellent drinks and will make whatever you request. In terms of food, I love the salmon burger, the lamb burger, the sweet potato fries, and the mozzarella sticks. If you’re looking for a great brunch spot with a fun atmosphere, definitely come to Fred’s!

When I lived in the upper west side in the early-mid 2000s it was a great spot. Despite covid and a fire still is. Very local if ur from out of town u get the real UWS experience!

My friends and I had brunch here and it was wonderful!! Great service from Emily <3 the drinks (mimosas, bloody Mary’s and espresso martinis) were a perfect start to a perfect dining experience. The pancakes were unreal, so simple but perfect!! Tracy was so sweet, and attentive. I love it here and would highly recommend to a friend!! Come here for a great time!

I came here for the bar next door, but after getting fairly busy, I went to the bar next door with friends. I can’t emphasize how incredible Fred’s was as a bar. Michael, the bartender, immediately made us feel like we were regulars. Drinks and food were fab. Honestly, I’ll be back to see Michael and the good vibes. Thank you, Freds!

Cozy neighborhood tavern with really engaging and fun staff! We celebrated a birthday with a group of 8 which included some meat lovers and vegetarians and there were ample choices for everyone’s tastes. Food and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend the crispy brussels sprouts, 8oz burger, buttermilk fried chicken, and molten lava cake for dessert! And definitely head next door to Scarlet Lounge for a nightcap at speak easy vibe lounge - you don’t even need to walk outside!

Fred’s hits the nail on the head with a classic American meal. The food is solid, great apps and burgers. The drinks sell it even more, and the staff takes it all home with great service. I come back for the staff and everything else is a bonus!

My girlfriends and I got all together for the first time in a long time and we had such a great time! Just a chill vibe. I wish I lived closer so I could be a regular here, such a solid meal. I always love my time at Fred’s. Great food and the staff are always pleasant. The community they have obviously curated over time shown through the photos of dogs from it makes the place feel like somewhere you never knew you wanted to visit but makes you feel like you needed once you’re there! I went to Fred’s again last night. Just wanted to reiterate how lovely the staff are. I have never had so many members of staff quality checking everything that they take care of. Carrie’s service was stellar and she always takes care of her guests.

This adorable eatery and bar has dedicated its walls to our canine and feline friends. I found a picture that looked exactly like one of my cats and found it completely uncanny. It is extremely child friendly. They have a great happy hour from 5-7. We enjoyed nachos, shrimp cocktail, and sesame chicken strips. Everything was high quality bar fare. The staff was friendly and delightful. The overall environment was warm and inviting. I would definitely go again.

We were seated in a back room and our server let us stay for 3 hours without rushing us out. They weren't excessively busy so we didn't feel the need to hurry. Our waiter brought us refills making sure we didn't need anything else. The food was perfect with portion sizes bigger than I could finish. If I lived in the area this would become my local restaurant for sure.

My uncle used to come here all the time since he lived super close. Since he passed, I haven't been able to come as much as I'd like. However, whenever I do come by myself or with others, it feels like he's still around.

Thanksgiving dinner I had here accompanied by a good friend of mines of many years I selected this establishment with no prior experience here , but I was not disappointed ! What an amazing hidden gem on the UWS! We went to Fred's on our last night in NYC and thoroughly enjoyed it, fabulous food, wine and lovely, helpful staff. You won't regret taking a trip to Fred's! Make sure you look at all the cute dog pictures that cover the walls. Will definitely be returning!

I’m am one of the many people who only give reviews when it is extraordinary or horrible. This place was amazing. After 12 days in Mexico and our share of fancy restaurants, this is by far the best steak I’ve had so we came back on day 14. A small mistake took place on our first visit but the management and waitstaff alike, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. In the end, we couldn’t have been happier and it wasn’t even necessary.

What a beautiful place. Surrounded by hundreds of pictures of dogs, with great service and awesome food. The attention is flawless, kind and always with a smile and a greeting. The food is delicious and I recommend the turkey burger and do not leave without trying their cheesecake. A work of art. The best, the puppies on the walls. What a great place. Will go again without a doubt!!

The fried calamari three times more delicious than any others I had in different proper italian places. Their service is what we would genuinely refer as ‘service’ in a hospitality sense; it’s heartfelt, attentive and friendly.

Great food been here for years. Even cat lovers would appreciate the “ dog decor “ Rasahad the host went above and beyond with service kudos to him Lauren and all the staff.

The patio is super dog friendly and they brought my dog water as soon as we sat down. Not much of a wait for outside seating, even during Sunday brunch. Staff was very efficient. We went here for my birthday and it’s been a whirlwind bc my dog is dealing with cancer and I wanted to have one last good day out with him. The staff at Fred’s were SO kind and went above and beyond to accommodate us, even waiting patiently as we had one in our party who had trouble finding parking. Food was great and there were options our whole group - which consisted of keto, vegan, and gluten free restrictions. Definitely will be back, thank you all at Fred’s so much for your hospitality (they even took the photo!)

Fred's was an amazing place to have a group brunch on a Sunday. The inside is much bigger than it looks, covered with frames dog photos which is a fun touch! The owner, David, is so awesome and accommodating, and our waiter Abu (sp?) made sure we were well taken care of. Service was exceptional! The brunch special was awesome - $18.95 for a bloody/mimosa/Bellini plus coffee and breakfast. The plates were HUGE and the free blueberry muffins with strawberry butter were such a delicious surprise. I had the eggs Benedict and the eggs were perfectly runny. They came with perfect potatoes and a green salad. I couldn't even finish it! Our group had a blast and will definitely be back because everything on the menu looked delicious. We will have to try it all! Thanks Fred's!

Tonight we had a great dinner with our one year old. We were sat right away on a busy Saturday night with a highchair in the dining room. We really enjoyed all of the special framed photos of dearly loved dogs. We ordered the hibiscus cocktail and the basil cocktail with Gin! Our server was present, and she was friendly. For dinner we enjoyed the famous Macaroni and the Mom’s Meatloaf entree with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables- perfect to share with my little one. Everything came out quickly and was yummy. It was special to dine in a family restaurant in the middle of the hip and busy UWS. Thank you for the hospitality!

Quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever eaten anywhere, at any point in my life. I had the wild mushroom and arugula flatbread with caramelized onions, goat cheese, and hot honey - a perfectly balanced blend of salty, sweet, bitter, and heat - a meal so perfect that my 15YO son, who doesn’t even like mushrooms, admitted it was the best pizza he’d ever eaten. He liked it so much, in fact, that he asked if we could swap our meals, and I was happy to oblige as he had their famous mac & cheese which was absolutely out of this world. Neither one of us could decide which entrée we preferred! Meanwhile, my wife had the turkey burger which was flavorful, juicy, and not at all dry as is often the case with turkey burgers. Very well-seasoned, as well. Cocktails, appetizers, prompt and friendly service - it was just an absolute joy dining at Fred’s. Keep up the good work, folks!

First, I’m mad we haven’t been sooner. But so glad we finally did! I’m a transplant patient and have to be super careful with food. Salads are one main thing to be super careful about and also my favorite. I explained my situation to the sweetest hostess on Saturday and she happily said it wasn’t a problem and they take things like that very seriously when informed. The ENTIRE staff was super friendly and it was one of the BEST freaking salads I’ve had!!! All the produce under that first layer was like farm fresh! The chicken is super tender and everything just crazy delicious! We will be sharing this salad and trying Mac and Cheese next visit very soon ❤️

great food and plenty of room for outdoor dining. can’t say much about the interior of the restaurant because i sat outside. service was great, our waitress was quick to take our orders. food took maybe 25 minutes to come out. i ordered the penne vodka (with chicken) and it was delicious and not too rich, perfect for a hot summer day. only complaint is that it was relatively expensive—$26! i also ordered the margherita flatbread which was also delicious and overloaded with cheese!

Fred’s is great! Good drinks, good food, and awesome people. Everyone that works at Fred’s seems to really enjoy their job which makes everyone’s experience much more enjoyable. I was hesitant to try the actual dinner entrees but the food is awesome. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, delicious! The Mac and cheese was good as well. Come for trivia on Monday nights. Sit at the bar if you do. Starts at 8 but show up around 7 to get a seat at the bar and if you’re going to eat definitely get here earlier so you aren’t eating during trivia.

This place is adorable! The dog photos all over the walls are great and we loved that the cocktails are all named for famous dogs. The service was very slow but we think this was because the staff was turning over at this time, everyone was still very nice! The music didn’t fit the ambiance though, lots of pop, reggeatone, and hiphop music even though the vibe is more classic rock/holiday.

Definitely one of my favorite neighborhood spots. Love sitting outside and the service is normally great. It feels so neighborhood-y and I love that. Also love their passion for dogs with all the photos hanging up inside. Only complaint is the steak – I've tried over 3 times to get a steak medium rare (or even rare) and have never had it come out less than medium well to well haha. Oh well, I'll stick with the chicken or wings or the best mozzarella sticks in the city!

It is a very cozy restaurant with walls filled with pictures of dogs! I was a bit disappointed with mac and cheese that I'd ordered for myself but my friend thoroughly enjoyed his lamb burger. Cocktails are incredible and service is good. But it's the ambience that outshines everything else.

My friend and I were looking for a place to eat in the middle of dinner rush. She suggested Fred's. We were seated indoors immediately. The staff was very friendly; the indoor tables have clear dividers and comply with the other COVID regulations. Our server was attentive, the environment was lively and most importantly the food was appetizing and came in reasonable portions. All in all, this is a quality American Restaurant and I would return again.

Our main reason for coming here? Our vet is around the corner, but we live in Hell's Kitchen. That said, we've come here for years in the evenings taking or picking our pups up and love the food and atmosphere. It is simple but always good. I've had several of the burgers and love their cheese steak, which I'm not often allowed to have anymore---so it's always a treat. My wife enjoyed the meatloaf the other day. Staff is always friendly and courteous and we have generally eaten outside (as we usu have one of our dogs w/us). I have to applaud the manager, who, during our last meal there, in as caring a manner as possible, had to move along an overly aggressive resident panhandler.

I came here with two of my friends after a long trip back to the city. The staff and owner were incredibly kind and the atmosphere and what they stand for is awesome. The food was mediocre. I would say go for the experience and if you like dogs, this is the place for you as it is dedicated to a seeing eye dog. All throughout the walls they have posted up pictures of other seeing dogs too. It is very interesting and heartwarming to see.

Great place to go with toddlers! The place was packed. No one cared if you're toddler got loud for a minute because everyone had one. The service was great, staff was friendly, but the food was overpriced and you can probably make it better at home. Go here if you want to get out with the kids and don't mind spending around $20/dish.

The food is great! But we got a super rude waiter. He kept rolling eyes and very judgmental about our order (and we ordered 80 usd worth for a quick bite before movie, so it wasn't bad). The place was not busy, many empty seats, my bf got the table by walking in (not reservation) but he asked him "Have you texted your girlfriend?" before I arrived 10 mns later, like.... it's none of your businesses :'). In the end, we needed to ask other waiter to give our check, because our waiter ignored us multiple times even when we had eye contacts. But I think it was only that particular waiter, the other staffs are mostly great. I think his name is Michael.

If you like dogs, you'll love this place. Literally hundreds of photos of customers pets on the walls. Good kid-friendly option. Brunch can be crazy, but the food isn't mind blowing. Like a lot of people, I have a soft spot for their mac and cheese.

I would say Fred’s is the epitome of atmosphere. It’s feels like a mix of a jazz bar and a brunch spot. The music choice is elite and the servers are nice. Water is refilled quickly and there is a long drink list. Food comes hot, but the time to wait following the order is unpleasantly long. I have nothing but positive comments for the staff and atmosphere. However as an autistic person the Mac and cheese that is supposed to be critically acclaimed is far below par. $20 may be standard for NYC Mac and cheese but the sauce on the buffalo Mac and cheese refuses to be cheesy and instead takes on the form of a buffalo sauce gloryhole. The chemical properties of buffalo sauce cause it to not be suitable for coating macaroni in a confine space. The chicken is dry even though it’s covered in sauce. If you come here the atmosphere and servers are fantastic, especially for a 10-12 sit down for brunch. However as a Mac and cheese lover I am distraught over the lack of Mac and cheese happiness this meal failed to bring me.

Family friendly diner-adjacent restaurant in the neighborhood. They know their demographic with the 2 for 1 beverage deal, maybe just a brunch thing. Reminded me of like a independent restaurant version of like a Chili’s or maybe an Island’s (if ur from CA). Just plain ole American food, but that’s what you should expect while eating here. Sometimes that’s all you want, which is just alright.

Nice atmosphere and outdoor seating, however the food is subpar. We visited once and I ordered the omelette — first, they came out with scrambled eggs instead. When they remade it, the omelette was unseasoned. Second time I ordered a salad and the salad was drenched in dressings, mostly only with romaine lettuce. Maybe this place is okay for the vibes but the food leaves more to be desired.

We ordered their famous mac n cheese. The bread crumbs on top were nice, but the sauce tasted a little strange. My husband thought there was a slight alcoholic taste to the white cheese sauce. I just thought the sauce could have been cooked longer? Not sure what they put in it, but $20 for a mediocre mac n cheese without any toppings was disappointing. We also ordered the orecchiette, which was not bad, but it wasn't good either. The photos of dogs were cute, outdoor ambiance was very nice, and waitress was very kind but MIA at times.

Horrible experience. Went there tonight with my 6 year old who has celiac disease. Specifically ordered gluten free pasta and then confirmed again with the server, was assured this was the case. Well my son got violently ill tonight definitely the pasta was regular not GF. Hours of soothing and cleaning up and I am so angry at this establishment.

The place seemed good from outside but inside there where on where only kids who where yelling and kinde ruining my day i tried the margarita food but it was absolutely disgusting pls don’t go there for a fun time cus its not gonna be fun also no room to sit.

This cafe is super bad. The walls are full of overstimulating pictures which spread across the whole restaurant that makes the interior really unappealing. The food is awful and bland, the atmosphere is too woke and the staff is lazy. The people eating there were loud, kids were running around and it was like a zoo.
