GAI is a definite hidden gem for chicken lovers. The food is exceptional and the team clearly puts real skill into every dish. Highly recommend Michael
I had an amazing experience with Bamba and Andrew. They were both very professional, attentive, and made me feel comfortable the entire time. Their service was excellent and exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended!
There roasted chicken and broccoli are delicious. The sauces are unique and taste great.
This spot delivers exactly what food lovers want. They provide warm service, tasty dishes, and hearty amounts. The food impressed everyone, though Gai Chicken & Rice truly shines through value and service quality. The taste experience is remarkable. This restaurant delivers unmatched service.
The place has a cozy vibe, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was quick. Definitely one of the best spots for comfort food and authentic chicken rice in town. Highly recommended for anyone who loves simple yet delicious meals! 💛
This restaurant is absolutely amazing! I loved it so much—the service was excellent, and the chicken was out of this world. If you’re Thai, it’ll remind you of the perfect khao man gai back home. And if you’re not Thai, this is still a must-try spot at least once in your life. The Thai iced tea was just as good as in Thailand. I even went back two days in a row, and on top of that, I bought extra to take on my flight so my friends in another city could try it too. The price is great, the food is delicious, clean, and satisfying.
The sticky BBQ Thai sauce was so tasty despite being spicier than I anticipated. The chicken was really tender and nicely flavoured. A good meal for a good price and portion size.
This is a takeout place only. There’s no place to eat inside. The spicy fried chicken with ginger rice was really delicious. The roasted chicken was good. The roasted green bean was not good because the green bean was old. We ordered via one of the 2 tablets at the store. And got our order a few minutes after. The place was fairly busy at 1PM, but we were in and out within 10 minutes.
This was so delicious I got a side of spicy fried chicken and omg it hit the spot. The container was packed also for $6. I also got the steamed dark meat chicken rice, with added steamed mushrooms. The Hainanese chicken sauce was on point. Not sure if this is the same Gai as in SF but this New York location was miles better than the Gai in San Francisco.
Couldn’t give it five stars fast enough! The guy asked if it was my first time eating there. When o responded yes, he immediately gave me a sample of the chicken and started telling me his favorites. I ordered and when my food was up, he packed extra sauces and gave me tips on how to combine the flavors. It’s SOOD good. Cannot wait to go back!
A great place to grab some chicken (over rice) during your busy days. The chicken is well-seasoned and tender, and they do give a lot. The rice is not just plain white rice but also has some seasoning - some ginger, garlic, and is probably cooked with chicken broth as well. The sauces are okay, I heard the green one is pretty good. They also give a small bowl of soup, but it is kinda bland. Zaab fries is pretty interesting with a hint of spicy and zesty. This place is mostly for takeout but there are a couple of seats if you decide to dine in. Bring your own box to reduce waste!! And customer service is exceptional!
First time visiting this place (visited twice this trip). I was very impressed with the set up and how you order and pay via their computers and when the order is ready they call your name. The 1st time I wasn't happy with the spicy chicken and fries. Chicken was old and dry. I also ordered the Kimchi fries, which were delicious. I was curious as to the flavor of the chicken, so we went back the next day, EARLY when they chicken was cooked fresh. It was amazing. The food is delicious (the pictures do it no justice). Next rip back, will definitely go again. Another thing I like is that the chicken is free-range, with no hormones or antibiotics.
I have been waiting for this shop to open since I heard of the new project of Chef Chat from the famous Fish Cheek. And today, while walking back to the office from a project site along 3rd Ave, I saw people holding a bag with the Thai alphabet “ก” -Gor Gai. I suddenly realized that the shop I have been waiting must already be opened. So, I stopped by and saw a lot of people in the shop. There was a sizzling sound of fried chicken - yes, they freshly fried them. It is a self-ordering, so I walked to the POS station and place the order, Fried Chicken Over Rice - my favorite- via their POS system - very easy and simple. But since this might be new to many Thai regular, there are also a couple of staffs waiting to assist you. Waiting for less than 5 mins, I got my order. Oh, I have to tell you that if you would like to take away, you can grab a bag from the counter. If not, there are a few seating available for dine-in. I got back to the office about 10 mins later and was afraid that my chicken would not be crispy. But no, they did a good job in having the chicken still very crispy when I got to the office. Now the best part, the soup is amazing. The chicken is great, could have use a little bit more seasoning -but there is a sweet chili sauce with it so it’s enhance the flavor. The rice is good. Price $11.95+taxes ...great value for a very great meal in Midtown.
I got the small ginger rice and chicken. Both the rice and chicken taste good but it was smaller than expected.
Toast online system charger me but didn’t put my order through. Called and person confirmed order went through and was ready for pick up. When I got to the store, they said order wasn’t logged. The workers were nice and helped figure it out.
My rate is only based on the meat. I didn’t order a bowl for rice or greens. Steamed chicken and roasted chicken were both good surprisingly, although the portion was slightly small. Both juicy and flavorful. They didn’t even need sauces tbh. I also got a side mushroom which was good but a little bit too salty. Better have it with rice.
Was super excited to try this place and enjoy some SG/Thai chicken rice! One of my favorite meals in the whole world. Food was good here! The ginger rice and the dressing are stellar! So good! Next time I think I’ll try the roasted chicken! The steamed chicken and rice needed some more seasoning and they don’t have the soy dipping sauce (which is okay). Just not a home run. Decent meal for the price, with limited seating; more like an order and go situation. If the que gets long it gets very crowded very fast. But service was pretty friendly and nice. I’d def go back cause the flavors were good. Just wish I also got a little more for the $13+ dollars.
I have tried this style of cuisine first from an establishment in elmhurt queens. This shop has tasty meals with good portion sizes. I ordered steamed dark meat chicken and extra on the side spicy fried chicken. Will definitely come back here. Opt out of the soup its whack and a waste of more plastic containers. Youre not missing much on the luke warm soup.
Ordered crispy fried and steam chicken and rice. You order using their pad machine. The place is small doesn't have too many seats. After you ordered, it does take some time to prep. As an Asian dish, this is definitely overpriced. I feel like the rice portion is not enough. The spicy fried chicken has lot of flavor and very spicy. The steam chicken, definitely need the sauce. Overall the meal is good but would not make me to come back for this 12 bucks lunch. Malay restaurant serving a Hainanese chicken for cheaper price.
I love this place and go there very often so I'm only posting this in the hopes that they do better. Yesterday I ordered the fried chicken platter with plantain and cauliflower. I was so so disappointed. See photos - the plantain were cut in huge chunks and were only half cooked, I cut them all open to check, and all of them were raw on the inside. The cauliflower side was the sad, soggy, and unseasoned, I think they gave me half a serving which is just us well since I didn't eat it. Will be thinking twice before using Gai again.
I used to frequent often a few years earlier but about 2 years ago I felt the staff and food started to go downhill so today I decided to give them a try again - another disappointment or maybe worse than 2 years ago. The 2 staff didn’t even smile or greet us as we walk in and up to the counter. I showed my order to one staff and he didn’t say or show any emotion or acknowledgment just started filling a container. He bags it and hands it over the counter in silence and emotionless. I say thank you and he has no reaction. My coworker sees this and decides he will get his food elsewhere. We went elsewhere where he ordered his lunch - staff smiled and looked like they cared about their work/customers. We ate our lunches and my Gai roast chicken on rice lunch was a huge disappointment even compared to how bad I remembered it 2 years ago. Today’s chicken was dry without flavor. The rice was soggy. I couldn’t even finish 1/3 of the lunch and I usually don’t waste food. Never again would I try this location unless the management/owner makes major changes here.
