a lovely cafe with a dark ambiance, comfy couches and ample variety seating. WiFi, bathroom, great to get work done in or watch some stand up comedy (free every night @7pm!) It does fill up fast. The drinks are your standard cafe fare, reasonably priced, the barista can be a little cold but it matches the overall mood of the establishment!
The coziest coffee shop!!! I want this place to stay in business forever because this is what we need. Good prices, loads of drinks, ample seating, good customer service, an events calendar and a bunch of vintage board games to play with your friends. Long live Black Cat LES.
super cool vibes feels like a living room / old library. wifi password available if you purchase $5+. wine comes in a mason jar which is a nice touch. also there is a bathroom which is great
I recently visited this place for the first time in years. It was really great to re-visit. It is warm and cozy, great coffee, small business. There was an open mic night for stand up. Really enjoyed it.
Nice, cozy ambiance. Ordered an iced chai and chatted with a friend. I have it on their good authority that their smoothies are also good. The music was great as well
Come for the cozy and random assortment of furniture this delightful coffee house. It has a real Central Perk vibe going on that I can't help but enjoy. The tea is amazing, specifically Jasmine and Ginger teas. Everynight so far that I've seen in February they host small stand up comedy performances and on some nights they have open mic. The comedians are decently funny. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is one bathroom inside and a tea costs $4.00. They also have a printer there for use for all the students in need of printing. Take your time and relax everybody. Hope this review helps!
Great vibes and awesome to find a coffee shop open late. I got into the city before my friends and was able to enjoy myself here at 9pm with a delicious mocha. A comedy show started as a walked in and I had some laughs. Cool spot for sure.
Nice cozy cafe. They had decaf latte and I was able to stay for 30 min or so without feeling like I have to rush or anything. It was a Wednesday night, last day of July in 2019 around 2030 and the place was about 1/3 full. It has a free WiFi too, no password needed. The AC was the right temperature and the music volume was low so you can talk without screaming.
Good experience, a bit enclosed but cozy. The service is not the friendliest. They are fine though. The place doesn’t boast a sense of community, but usually filled with people reading and studying, which is good in its own right.
It's not just any old cafe that would think to use a rich, thick, sweet balsamic vinegar, good enough to sip all by itself, on their avocado toast.
What a cute and delightful place. My favorite coffee shop vibe in NY, the coffee was exactly what we wanted. Third wave, medium roast coffee.
The food is consistently good. The service is quick. It is best to come hungry, anything you got it will be extremely filling. The chicken sandwich is amazing.
We got the Smoked Brisket Tacos and a smoked pastrami sandwich. Both were super tasty. The meat was tender and moist. I didn’t get the name of the guy who helped us; he went above and beyond to fulfill our every wish. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely Outstanding BBQ Experience! I had lunch today at Izzy’s Smokehouse, and it was nothing short of phenomenal. We ordered a spread that included the brisket, pulled beef, burger, and chicken, and every single item was cooked to perfection. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with just the right amount of smoky flavor. The pulled beef was rich, juicy, and packed with flavor — easily one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The burger was perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy, and bursting with bold, smoky notes that made every bite unforgettable. Even the chicken, which can sometimes be tricky at BBQ spots, was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. On top of the incredible food, the service was attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting — the perfect spot for lunch, whether you’re a BBQ enthusiast or just looking for an amazing meal. I highly recommend Izzy’s Smokehouse to anyone looking for top-notch BBQ. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in every bite. Can’t wait to come back!
The place and service looks like they are running an organ business, it's expensive , served with plastic kettles, BUT... It is so good. So we will come again. We took black and rino ribs. Both are excellent but my heart goes to rino ones. Wow this is simply great. We came back this year again, and all stays the same. Great place to go. For me, it is the number 1 restaurant in NYC. We came back again during summertime, this was great but please STOP using the BBQ sauce in all dishes. Great meat doesn't need sauce at all.
Highly recommend all the meat. We ordered the lamb ribs, burned ends, wings, and pastrami. Every entree comes with pickles and red cabbage. Everything was ready in ten minutes. It was all licking my fingers delicious!! The best in my opinion was the lamb ribs. Interesting options for local beer. I added a photo of what i got, it had a tropical flavor that i enjoyed greatly. The place is small, only 4 tables (seats 18) and a few outdoor as well. We came at 4:30 and by 5 the line was almost out the door and no seating available. Definitely go early if you want to sit down. Husbands favorite was the pastrami, which came with a horseradish mayo and mustard! We definitely will eat here again! Great food!
Wow wow wow, literally the place to go if you want pure unadulterated beef!! Starting with the chicken adobo tacos, the combination of a soft flour tortilla combined with moist chicken and a savory blend of toppings and sauce, absolutely delicious. From there we move on to the holy grail of smoked meats - The Dino rib! Just imagine tender melt in your mouth pieces of meat with that perfect smoke ring and a beautiful salt and pepper bark flavor. You have to get this if you come! To top it all off we had the pulled beef fries which honestly was just plain yum, the horseradish mayo really gave that nice kick and finished off the sweetness of the pulled beef. Overall 5/5 and definitely going to be here often, I just can’t think of another place that offers comparable beef. Period.
Definitely lives up to the hype! Been following for a long time and always wanted to come, so when I was in NY this week I had to go. The food and portions were excellent and something you definitely cannot get elsewhere. Highly recommend the smoked chicken sandwich and the tacos! Service was great and the food was fresh with amazing flavour. Would love to see a location in London 😉 Definitely take the time to visit and enjoy!
Initially heard about this place from Nick Solares' review of it on "The Meat Show". This place is a real gem in Brooklyn. The place is small, but the beef ribs are large. The taste of the smoked meats are the best I've tasted. The brisket is hands down the most juiciest and tastiest I've had thus far. The prices are very expensive, but I did not feel cheated at all because you get what you pay for. For an order of 1/2lb brisket and 2lb back ribs with a side of fries, the bill came up to about $80. If this is your first time here, I would suggest getting: 1) Smoked brisket 2) Ribs (Dino, Back or Lamb)
Black Cat LES has an inconspicuous storefront for a Lower East Side cafe. once through the door, the interior opens up into a surprisingly medium/large space. it’s well-maintained and clean. the vibe is very community living room with a variety of seating options. lots of laptop-pers & tablet-ers at work when here last. there’s WiFi for those who need it. there are live events at night like music, readings, comedy, etc. there’s a variety coffee & tea drinks on the menu as well as variety of simple savory eats like sandwiches, toasts, and bagels. got a large drip coffee to fight a chilly weekday off with hot caffeine and it did the job. strong coffee, nice caffeine kick. it was a huge cup of coffee and it warmed up and sped up my walk of endless errands in the neighborhood. the staff is very chill and kind. cafes like this are becoming the rarity in NYC. cherish the neighborhood gems.
Black Cat LES isn’t your average coffee shop it feels like a living room for the Lower East Side. From the mismatched couches to the community events, there’s an unpolished charm that makes you want to linger. Their coffee hits the mark strong, unpretentious, and always fresh. I love that it doubles as a coworking space by day and a creative hub by night. It’s the kind of spot where conversations flow easily, and everyone feels like a regular.
If you're in the mood for a burger that's the place to be! Every part of the burger is done tho perfection and absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is kind of shabby. I thought Also that it was a bit pricey. I would definitely go back though!
Went already 3 times, food is just amazing, everything on spot. These guys know how to make BBQ! Steak and ribs that melt in your mouth, succulent chicken & turkey. Really, everything i tasted (and I tasted everything😀) was superb. Why only 4 stars? Well, they need a better ordering system, it takes too long, but food arrives quickly. Also, just know this place is very focused on smoked meat. They do not have vegetarian or fish options (beyond the sides), and is really for meat lovers.no kids menu either.
Came here to work remotely. The place is super grungy with a cool vibe, the Barnstable isn't the warmest person but I didnt mind as its part of the underground "charm" of the place. My main issue was with the wifi- for a place that requires a purchase to get the password, I tried 3 different times and the internet was basically not existent. So if you're planning yo actually do some work- wouldn't recommend it.
Went on 10/5/2025 at 8:10 am and the Barista was just opening. Didn't start taking orders for another 10-15 minutes and was kind of rude. The latte when it finally came out was really good, I got the nutella latte which felt a little juvenile but she did great on that. Just got the bagel and it looks awesome so we'll see.
The staff should be clear about how large the orders are instead of muttering and shrugging when asked if it would be enough for two people to share. I wound up buying two platters! Food for at least 6 people! 240$ later!! Greed is not good my friends . Food was very good, being money hungry and taking advantage of people are no good!
Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this place, I take no pleasure in a bad review so what I’m sharing is intended to be helpful. I ordered the sample platter which was $120 - pulled beef, brisket, burnt ends, added the Korean chicken bites, with pickles, pickled cabbage, Cole slaw and instead of mash potatoes got the candied sweet potato. Everything overall was under seasoned. The brisket was so so dry, it stuck to my teeth for how dry it was. The burnt ends, also very dry, slightly better than the brisket but not by much. The pulled beef was probably the best thing on the platter but still lacked moisture without the sauce. The coleslaw was very watery and again lacked any flavor. The Korean bites should be taken off the menu, nothing Korean about them, just fried chicken chunks that also were very dry. Crazy to say this but the $10 candied sweet potato was a joke, super watery, nothing candied about it also very small potato, to charge $10 is excessive In their restaurant they have videos of this super juicy brisket and what they served me was far far far from what was advertised. Maybe this was an off night for the kitchen as it was a Monday night though I have no intention of going back as there were just too many things wrong. Perhaps kosher bbq uses leaner meats and therefore is very dry? I’ve had a lot of BBQ and this wasn’t it.
The barista was extremely unfriendly, exhibiting passive-aggressive behavior and clearly hating her job (evident from her shouting at guests towards the end). I visited this cafe for an event, and when I ordered an iced matcha latte (and tipped), the barista was not only passive-aggressive but also impatient. She/they made me feel as though I couldn't speak English while I ordered, even though I have lived in the U.S. for 10 years, speak fluent English, and work in a communication-heavy job. Towards the end of the event at 9pm (despite the cafe's closing time being listed as 10pm), the barista shouted at everyone, saying, "The cafe was supposed to close an hour ago! Nobody is paying me for this hour! Please leave!" This was unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. No professional staff member should ever shout at guests. Despite paying for drinks and tipping, the experience was terrible. Based on this, I cannot recommend this cafe to anyone. If you are the business owner, please address this rude behavior that occurred on June 26 (Wednesday) during the night shift. Improving staff behavior is crucial for customer satisfaction and the reputation of your cafe.
The barista is *rude*. Idk if there are several but there is an older lady and does not put names on the coffees. So when people order the same kind of food or coffee they don’t know what belongs to who. Very uncomfortable. Poor customer service - she literally yells at customers. It also took over 30 min to get food
This place needs to seriously think about when and what days they do open mic comedy shows as they are often intrusive and do not have a schedule posted online so that people know to avoid the business those days. For example I am here on a Tuesday where every table is someone here to work and the comedy club essentially has forced multiple people to move for their setup.
Barista made a very rude comment about not tipping after I had paid. This was very off putting and made for a less than ideal experience.
Very bad vibes here. There was only one employee working who was eventually rude and yelled at us and snatched our food away for accidentally taking the wrong order even though the ordering process was very chaotic and you had to guess if an item was yours when it came out. It was taking more than 20 minutes to get simple drinks out and I waited upwards of 30 minutes for a sandwich. Orders were disorganized and thrown out with no names attached which was very confusing. Food was ok although overpriced for the quality, but the rude and aggressive staff member made it a horrible experience. Would not recommend coming here.
I really like this kosher brisket but last time I was here the gentleman gave me super dry brisket which wasn’t fresh at all and it was funky a little bit for brisket is not a good sign. Probably never ever coming back again. Very disappointed. I don’t think the meat that was served was kosher……
One of the worst experiences that I and my father have gone through in Brooklyn, NY being a home grown man here. I have dine in some of the best kosher restaurants in Brooklyn/New York City. This by far is the worsts of any I have spent money in. I will show you what we received was nothing but fat for Lamb, as well as Pastrami. Couldn't enjoy this at all. For $107 we got fat. The money isn't the issue. It's the product. My father only eats Pastrami when he comes to town. Being we weren't able to get our usual place due to the time we decided to go to Crown Heights a place we adore. Yet we were given fat & Blood that you would give your canine. We would never by anything from this establishment.
I recently visited Izzy's Smokehouse after four years, hoping for the same great experience I remembered. Sadly, it was disappointing. I ordered a classic burger and pulled beef rolls. The rolls were swimming in oil, and when I returned them, the staff said that's just how they are. It was unappetizing. The burger was too small for the bun and dry, though I’d rate it a 6.5/10. The place felt greasy everywhere, clearly low on maintenance. It's a shame because it used to be much better. I hope this review helps them improve both the food and the cleanliness.
