We were staying nearby and we stumbled upon this gem place. We ordered sushi the first night and it was so good. We went back again but this time to grab some ramen. My mom ordered the fried rice. The food was hot and the food was given to us super fast each time. The staff was super friendly.
Absolutely fantastic experience! The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented. The staff was welcoming and attentive, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The variety on the menu, including creative rolls and traditional favorites, was impressive. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving high-quality Japanese cuisine! Will definitely be back.
Stopped by Otani for the first time today and I will definitely be recommending this place to my friends!! Let’s start with the atmosphere - when you first enter, you’re greeted with a bunch of cute LED lights, very cute backdrop if you’re into taking photos. Staff is very welcoming and I was greeted with warm smiles the minute I stepped downstairs. To your left, there is an alcohol bar and a sushi bar. The bar is stacked with everything, so if you’re up for a drink, this place won’t disappoint!! I would recommend going for sake as it is a perfect pair for sushi. The place was extremely clean, even the bathroom was well decorated and spotless. Service - The servers were phenomenal! They are well educated on each dish and will explain in depth if you are new to Japanese cuisine or have any questions. I’m not able to eat raw fish and they explained all available options to me patiently. Although it was very busy tonight, the servers took time to check in on us and made sure we were good as well as constantly filling our water cups. Towards the end, the owner himself came to our table and greeted us and made sure we enjoyed the meal. You won’t get this type of hospitality anywhere else. The owner seemed very passionate about the food and it goes to show how much love they put into curating each dish!! Food - oh my, where do I even begin. Everything was amazing, flavors were all on point, fish was extremely fresh, and the flavor palette blended so well with each bite. Here are some of the dishes I would recommend and I think is a must try. - Foie gras eel (perfect for eel lovers) - Rock shrimp (fried to perfection) - A5 Waygu (for my beef lovers) - Uni (straight from Japan - freshness overload) - Spicy miso soup (paired great with the curly noodles) - Botan ebi I cannot rave enough about how good the food was. This is by far one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Very high quality food but still at a reasonable price and won’t hurt your wallet. This place has well exceeded my expectations, it is truly a hidden gem. If you’re ever in the area, definitely stop by and experience the hype for yourself!
Dining at Otani on Wall Street is an absolute pleasure. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed with a modern, elegant atmosphere that perfectly balances sophistication with comfort. The staff is warm, attentive, and truly goes out of their way to make sure every guest feels taken care of.
I recently visited Otani with my friend and it we had fantastic experience. The sushi were fresh—each piece melted in my mouth. I highly recommend the beef ramen and salmon tartare. Service was great. The staff was knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations based on our preferences. Definitely come again!
Guys, this place is soooo good! I gave 3 stars for the ambiente cause it is looking like a rather simple place but it‘s well kept and clean. The food here is absolutley amazing! We‘ve had Snow crab tacos, sushi on fried rice and we came back for the Miso Ramen. Fun fact: A lot of people working here are Chinese and not Japanese, but they can def. Cook Japanese!
I had the Chef Omakase plate and it was super delicious. The ataff went over and the main highlights were the toro hand roll, the toro belly, uni and salmon! The fish was pretty fresh. The wagyu beef was also a nice treat towards the end and super tasty. The staff were awesome all around and got my order in a reasonable time. The location is pretty convenient near the World Trade Center Station/Fulton if you're in this end of the city. If you're in the area I really recommend it.
Sometimes you discovered gems by luck. I was starving and Otani was in my way back to the hotel. And I didn’t regret to stop, staff is discreet and kind, the menu is so diverse and the food is really fresh. I really enjoyed my time alone in this peaceful space in an intense city like NYC. Recommend 💯
I was in the mood for sushi and stumbled upon this newly opened establishment. Absolutely satisfied my craving. The sushi was tasty and fresh. Fried rice was good and a great value for a whole lobster tail. I liked that the chicken karaage was meating without a lot of extra breading. The place was esthetically pleasing and very comfortable. Lots of different cool light fixtures. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Overall value was great. I would definitely return and recommend.
Randomly looked up a ramen spot in this neighborhood but so glad we came here over all the others. Lovely quiet space with beautiful decor, calm ambiance, soothing music, and delicious food. It is everything you want in an intimate restaurant. The cocktail was also so tasty! Would highly recommend for anyone, but especially for a getaway from the city!
I am so happy we found this place! The atmosphere is beautiful and comfortable, the service was fantastic, but the FOOD. The food was insanely good. We ordered a lot, but here are the highlights: -spicy edamame— I’m so sad I’ll never be able to recreate this dish. It was indescribably delicious. -spicy crunch tuna roll was fresh and perfect. -tonkatsu ramen was everything I want ramen to be. The broth was savory and perfectly balanced. -chicken karrage don— wow. Wow. Wow. This was unexpectedly amazing. Go here 1000%.
9/23/25 My coworker and I were just wandering around looking for lunch and a man was coming up the stairs when we pass by and out of the corner of my eye I saw him. And I was like wait is there a subway station here? I turned and looked and saw the lights and was like wow nice subway station but then my coworker realized it was a restaurant lol So we said let's try it hehehe. It was such a good choice! My coworker got Sushi and I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. I loved the ramen and she loved the sushi. We are definitely going back!
I recently visited Otani, a sushi restaurant in New York, because I wanted to treat myself to some really good sushi. I went there alone, but the warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel completely at ease. The service was excellent attentive and the staff was incredibly friendly. The sushi itself was outstanding: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite felt like a little masterpiece. Overall, my experience at Otani was wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious sushi and top-notch service in New York!
Got takeout sushi combo from otani - highly recommend their sushi! Everything was really fresh and flavorful. I loved the variety in the combo. Miso soup was good, not super warm so needed to reheat. Pickup was easy and staff was friendly. Inside looked nice, I would like to come back and dine in.
Otani is hands down the best sushi in the city. Every piece was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. What truly sets this place apart is the amazing service—attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling rushed. You can tell they care deeply about the experience they’re creating. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi and outstanding hospitality in NYC, Otani is a must. I can’t wait to come back.
Our server was very kind! The restaurant has a very nice vibe. I ordered the tri color sashimi deluxe off the menu, the miso soup it came with was delicious one of the best I have ever had and sashimi itself tasted delectable. My girlfriend ordered the crazy dragon roll and she said it was amazing. I would come here again for my anniversary!
We stumbled upon this hidden gem while walking around NYC. Since it was close to our hotel, we decided to give it a try without even checking reviews, and we’re so glad we did. It turned out to be one of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve ever visited. The service was excellent. The sushi was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the raman was rich and delicious, and every dish was prepared perfectly. Even our picky eaters loved it here. Highly recommend!
When this restaurant opened up, my boyfriend and I had to try it since we love sushi. This place is so great and we’ve come back multiple times because the sushi has always been delicious and reasonably priced. This time we ordered miso soup, spicy edamame, two maki rolls, and their special Tiger roll. Hits every time
My friend and I went to Otani around 5:30pm on a Monday. I was shocked that there was a decent amount of people in the restaurant when I checked in, so I would recommend making a reservation. They are located at a lower level, which is nice because it provides a bit of waiting room. The interior has a fancier ambiance, with a mix of tables and cozy booths. We started with an order of harumaki ($6). I liked that they cut this up in halves, so it was easier to split. It had a nice natural flavor, and the sauce definitely has a kick! I got a tonkotsu ramen ($18) and my friend got one signature roll and one regular roll, though I forgot which ones. It may have been the pink lady ($20) and yellowtail avocado ($9). It is rare for me to finish the entire bowl of ramen (broth specifically), but this bowl was delicious. It had a good ratio of broth to ingredients, and the noodles had a good texture. My only critique is that the chashu could be a tad more moist, but it still had nice flavor. My friend enjoyed her sushi, though I would still want to go back to Otani to try their sushi and update my review accordingly. Service was great! There were multiple check-backs and water refills. We did get rushed out at 6:50pm, and I had made a 5:30pm reservation, but they gave us a nice booth that would be suited for a party of 4, so I get it. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and I will be back to try their other offerings!
I celebrated my birthday by myself at Otani Restaurant and had such a great experience. The Sushi Deluxe I ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The Takoyaki was also amazing — definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves quality Japanese food!
Found this place while trying to find an area that sells ramen and it’s a bit hidden near Fulton st. But I love the interior decoration when entering the restaurant. Our server was accommodating and nice. Tonkatsu Ramen was the perfect amount of noodles, I chose thick while my friend chose curvy. The broth was super yummy and the pork was thick but juicy. A bit charred round the edges but I kinda of love that. Mango Crepe was alright, was missing some fresh and juicy flavors but it was ok. Still soft and edible. I hope to get the chance to try the sushi options they have but lots of dishes to choose from. Pretty affordable for 2 people as well. Wait time was 12 mins
I love Japanese food and couldn't wait to try! When I arrived I parked on the street and the parking was very hard in this area. When I finally found parking I walked into a cute restaurant. I was greeted and sat and served by Jimmy and he was good. I ordered the cab and that was good. For food I got: Chicken Karaage Bun Chicken Yakitori seafood ramen shrimp teriyaki The food was tasty. I loved the chicken karaage bun the most. The ramen was good but the noodles were a tad chewy. All in all I had a good experience!
Had lunch at this sushi spot and really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and well-prepared, and the service was friendly. The atmosphere was peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal. All in all, a very good experience—I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for quality sushi and a calm lunch environment.
Food was pretty good, definitly excel in the appetizers, sushi, ramen department much more than other departments but definitely a vibe. everything else is just there to have a bigger menu but, great service, good atmosphere, not too loud, and the food arrives very quickly. Drinks are also wonderful and not a steep price
Solid 4.5 here for the somewhat-hidden gem down-the-stairs underground sushi spot. From the Miso to the tea and everything in between we came away impressed. The Sushi bar entrees excellent, super-fresh, quality fish exceeded our expectations. Recommend the Tricolor Sashimi Deluxe Combo. Come hungry, sashimi servings on the larger end. I'll be back to try more items on this menu. Odd neon signs galore in the entrance, but could be the landmark "just walk along Nassau St until you hit the multiple neon signs in the lobby" :-) Back a few days later. Ramen very good, and sashimi combo excellent. Confirmation of my earlier rating.
Excellent. I'd return. I was wise enough to just order the tonkatsu ramen, nothing else. That's plenty for one person, i barely finished it. It's a very creamy broth and they nailed the sodium level perfectly. Pork is tender with a great char. And the eggs? Gel, which is great. The problem is there's only 1 egg and i wanted to eat 12 of them. Restaurant is downstairs so you occasionally get the rumble of the subway below you! Staff was very nice and attentive.
I am a fan of Japanese food and recently got the chance to have dinner at Otani. The food was quite good. The gyoza, spring rolls, and ramen were all flavorful and satisfying. The ambience was comfortable enough to enjoy the meal. Service was just okay, not terrible but could definitely be more attentive.
Walked past this new Japanese spot multiple times on our way home and finally decided to give them a try. A cool entrance, walk down a flight of stairs to a very spacious basement restaurant. Greeted by friendly staff and seated promptly on a Sunday night. Had the Spicy Miso Ramen and chicken bao buns. Both were good, not great, but good. And considering an expansive menu with very reasonable prices during these inflationary times, and stellar service, but ultimately it is the food that drives a rating, that said is more like a 3.5. I wouldn't exactly rush back, but in a pinch, worth a 2nd visit since they are within walking distance. Guess it's all relative to one's own palate and range of dining experiences based on fellow yelper's reviews. But do give them a try, always want to support small business restaurants.
The food was amazing, but the Place was freezing like Alaska in a winter day this Facility/)restaurant had the heating system off during the coldest days of Winter !!!! what kind of restaurant owner Does that to his Customers!!!!? And the worst part that I was told that in summer he/she does the same with the AC system?????You can’t pay for the heating during the winter just close the place look for a different career!!!! When people go to eat out and spend good money they wanna feel comfortable while they’re eating good food not feel uncomfortable and that is the basic of great restaurant business and hospitality!!!!Shame on whoever allowed that!!!!
Came here for the first time because of the high ratings, but the experience was very disappointing. I ordered the Unagi Don, and it was honestly disgusting, the unagi tasted like it came straight from the fridge, just placed on top with pickled radish and seaweed. That is not a proper meal, that's a SCAM! I've never had a dish prepared like that before. My friend ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, which tasted fine at first, but she later got sick in the afternoon. This made me worry a lot about the food safety in this restaurant. The only positive part of the visit was the lady who served us, she was very friendly and polite. We were happy to tip her for her service, but certainly not for the food. Will not come back!
