Decided to try Chef Maria's $98 menu saison and was completely blown away by the amazing food! It was 9 rounds of pure enjoyment. Chef Maria is a quiet but friendly and humble host. She explained to us the dishes and made every complicated dish appear simple and elegant. Watching her cook with minute precision adds to the amazing ambiance that this intimate chef's table restaurant have to offer. In terms of the food, our favorite was the Pain Perdu with foie butter and habanero jam. She took a modern and delicious twist to the classic foie gras with pain! This is the perfect place to do date night, celebrate anniversaries, or impress your parents who are visiting the town. Don't worry, their menu changes EVERY WEEK so you'll always have a new experience when you come here! Edit: I forgot to mention how much our server, Jack, augment our dining experience. He gave us the best seating in the restaurant (right in front of Chef Maria's plating corner!), recommended a lovely crisp Santorini wine to pair with our tasting menu, and always ready to serve our next meal, without feeling rushed. To us that speaks class.
Tasting menu was 98 dollars for nine course. Great atmosphere. Quiet enough to talk and definitely enjoy watching chef maria making the wonderful food. Definitely request the seats in front of the chef preparation table for best view.
When an eight-course tasting menu turns into 11 courses (for the eight-course price), you know you have found an "I'll be back" restaurant. And when each course is more than just one mouthful, the dining experience improves even more. Fine dining in New York City usually comes at a price. But the prices here at Ukiyo in the East Village for the tasting menus in particular offer exceptional value for money - perhaps because the restaurant is so new, having been open (since late May) less than two months as I write this. I'd definitely recommend a visit soon just in case prices rise or portions get smaller. Make sure you book: on my Tuesday visit 15 of the 18 seats were occupied. As you would expect from a fine dining establishment, the dishes combine ingredients in unique ways, providing interesting textures as well as tastes - for example, a foie cocktail with pickled cherries, sakura blossoms and cherry meringue. The chef and his team prepare the food in the open kitchen across from the dining counter. Wait service is friendly and efficient. Restaurant Ukiyo is next door to sister and Michelin-starred Jewel Bako Sushi. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ukiyo match that Michelin honour in the not-too-distant future.
Amazing foods and great service at the intimate chef's table! Reasonable tasting menu but great quality of ingredients!! I was greatly impressed with Chef Marco's beautiful dishes! Great for a date night or any special occasions because the restaurant is kind of hidden jam! I would highly recommend this place and can not wait to come back for their new tasting menus!
Had the 5 course tasting menu. OMG, the flavor pairings were amazing! Oxtail bouillon with little bits of foie gras, the Waguyu (sp?) beef with horseradish, onion, hearts of palm and another flavor I can't remember. Oh, and foie gras granola. Each dish prepare right in front of us.

We adored this restaurant. Fine dining with a nice personal touch. Only 8 seats in the restaurant and everyone has a front row seat in the open kitchen. Chef is humble yet very talented and we really enjoyed watching her create almost as much as we loved eating her creations! Definitely recommend the 9 course tasting menu. One of the best values in fine dining in NYC.
An incredible restaurant with incredible hospitality and food. Watching Chef Maria prepare the food is priceless and even more impressive due to the service. As soon as the food is plated the hostess gentleman was right there to serve the plates! One of the best 1 ⭐️ Michelin’s I have been to! The Zinfandel is a perfecting pairing for the 9-course option.
I went with my father and I have to say food was excellent, atmosphere nice and place looks beautiful. I will be disappointed if they don't get michelin star. My favorit dishes was mussels soup, striped bass and Lobster and melon gazpacho was superb. Lobster also was cooked to perfection. I just love the place and when I coming over I will return.
Outstanding restaurant, In the weekend they serve 2 tasting menus. 5 or 8 course, we chose the 8 course. And every dish was outstanding. From the beginning till the end. The chef is very kind and explains the food. Service is kind and warm
Restaurant Ukiyo is one of the most exciting meals I’ve had in New York City in a long time. We opted for the eight course tasting menu (which is really the only way to go) — and it was EXQUISITE. Each course was beautifully composed and visually stunning — the ingredients were so vibrant and the dinnerware was gorgeous. Most importantly, every single dish was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I experienced some flavor combinations that I had never tasted before (now I know that goat butter and anchovies are an amazing pairing) — and I loved every second of it. Below is a list of the dishes that I tried. It’s exhilarating to be treated to a meal of this caliber. And it's very reasonably priced, too ($125 for 8 courses!) I am a big fan of open kitchens because they add an element of intimacy to the dining experience. What a pleasure watching Chef Marco Prins and his team execute dish after dish with the utmost precision and care. This phenomenal meal was a real treat for all of the senses! Let's just say, "superb!" Jack, the owner, greeted us at the door with a style and finesse lost in today's restaurant environment generally, and in NYC specifically. Warm, caring and wildly charismatic. His knowledge of food, wine and spirits coupled with his overt passion for making every moment a lasting positive memory for guests is, quite literally, second to none. Every comment and gesture was artfully honed and crafted to enhance our culinary experience. What an EXPERIENCE! Once inside, everyone is seated along two sides facing the kitchen which house the two young and impressive chefs. Not a bad seat in the house! Both are extremely gracious and articulate. They too, very much want to share their knowledge and could easily transfer it to a guest eager to learn more. And the food they create...wowzers! Although the concept is small in scale, interestingly, everyone seemed to be very comfortable and able to enjoy their experience separately. I have to admit, once Jack had everyone engaged in the moment with food, wine and merriment; the set-up also lent itself to a more social setting where guests shared stories and added to the great vibe of the restauranteur's home turf. Eveyone gets the experience they want which seems to be the goal at Ukiyo. If I were Jack--prices would be going up. Bravo.
My husband and I are foodies & have been around the block. This restaurant & the food was the best experience we have ever had. The food was exceptional- and in right quantity. Service flawless as well. Thank you Chef & the team. 200% recommended!
The 9 course tasting menu was outstanding. Chef Grayson and our server Jack where extremely hospitable, knowledgeable and fun. Looking forward to returning.

Very nice and cosy restaurant. The intimate atmosphere of eating at the chefs counter makes it very special. The chef and her partner (so they prove to be a couple) make a perfect team. There is still some improvement possible but this restaurant is certainly a must do when your in New York.
There were two options: 5 or 8 courses. I went with the 8 and thought all dishes (except one) were good but none were amazing. There were two bonuses dishes - potato bread with super tasty butter and razor clam. The one I didn't like was a mussels two way dish. The mussel soup was SO salty I couldn't finish it. But overall had a great experience. I sat very close to where all the prep and plating were done so that was intriguing.
The food is a 5. The service is a 0. I would hesitate to return due to my server (and the only one there). He does not understand the purpose of an inside voice, and his other voice is only appropriate for the din at Carmine's or a football game! His descriptions and aggressive sales of the "value of the 8 course tasting menu", while amusing the first time was annoying the 5th time we had to stop our conversation, being unable to hear each other over him, though he was across the room. His response to our request to slow down the food after being served 4 course within 35 mins of being seated was, "that's the problem with ordering a la carte." If the preference is to have all guests order a pre-fixe (3, 5, or 8 course) menu, it is ok to remove the a la carte option, but as long as it is offered, the pacing needs to be more appropriate. To the chef's credit, he came over and apologized for the pacing. Our server yelled each order to the chef over the diners, which rather than creating at atmosphere of informality, reminded me of road stops in old movies. The space had a very different atmosphere in years past (as Degustation) due to the servers' manners. While the food is excellent, this will be a short-lived experiment at this price point unless diners enjoy the entire experience.
Our experience was very odd and overall, just sad. In a 9-course dinner, we understand each course will be small, but these plates were like a spoonful... literally! We had an 8:30 reservation and sat, feeling invisible until 9:15pm, when other diners arrived, and then it appeared as if a later seating began. Do not honor an 8:30 reservation if you will not start serving until a particular time! We noticed that bread was proactively offered to other diners with certain courses, like the pasta course, but it wasn't offered to us. We asked and were told, "No" at first, but then just took it because the other guests were helping themselves. When others were offered butter for their bread, we were ignored and once again, made to feel invisible. When others were told explanations with their course, our plates were quickly placed in front of us. I suppose in a fine dining establishment, asking for bread is uncouth, but we're not paying over $300 for dinner and leaving hungry! Towards the end of the meal, the host put the remaining bread in a bag and "gifted" it to me and my husband. I found this an obnoxious gesture helpful, since we were still hungry! The vibe was very off and we didn't particularly like the food. We left feeling unsatisfied, unwelcomed, and insulted.
Service is horrible, good is not that good! Maybe an off night
