Tip: If you like spice, consider going for level 2 or 3, as the lowest spice level may not be spicy enough for some.

This place has been on my bucket list since Padma Lakshmi recommended it. The sandwich was great and the fries were arguably better. I had the spicy sandwich with dark meat. One disappointing thing I heard from the guy over the counter was that they were closing all physical locations and moving to online ordering only. As someone who loves the city and loves physical locations, especially eating at physical locations, I hope they reconsider.
After a challenging morning at work, I needed a spicy delicious bite to kick me into 5th gear ⚙️ and Rowdy Rooster SERVED! Not only was there spicy fried chicken sandwich "Big Rowdy" an explosion of Indian spice and fire, the nice lady who took my order and served the food was accurate with my picky order and served the food with a beautiful smile (: I'm looking forward to bringing my wife here for another great experience, thanks ROWDY!
We went in pretty late in the night and this place was still open with a good number of patrons. We tried the vada pav which was very good and the mango lassi which was exceptional. While we didn’t try it, they have a lot of options such as bowls and burgers. The vibe is fun and upbeat and the service is prompt and friendly. The place was very clean. This is very close to Penn station so excellent after a show at MSG or similar. Overall this restaurant checked a lot of our boxes with good food and good vibe. Would recommend.
One of the most flavorful meals I've had in a long time!!! The sandwich with mango lime sauce was incredible. The chicken was juicy and the sandwich itself has so many delicious layers of flavors. The spicy fries are the perfect spice level, not too hot but extremely flavorful. I visit NYC from Philly somewhat often and will definitely be returning!!!
I was visiting NYC and, after walking for hours, I was starving and looking for something good to eat when this place caught my eye. I love Indian food and chicken sandwiches and Rowdy Rooster combines the two perfectly! Their Indian-style fried chicken sandwich did not disappoint. It was a home run. I highly recommend it!
Come hungry - the sandwich is huge! After eating this sandwich - it just seems so obvious - that a fried chicken sandwich with Indian flavors would be amazing. I got the hot chicken sandwich - it’s gigantic with the the right amount of heat. The chef is a genius - switching out mayo and pickles for mint chutney and red onions - bro, chefs kiss!! The Hakka chili dip - spicy and powerful flavor - good for both dipping fries and the sandwich in. It has a tang that reminds me of Indian Achar (pickle). Also glad I got the spiced fries- they have a nice masala flavor. Will be back soon with the family!
I didn’t know I needed a desi style fried chicken burger till I had Rowdy Rooster one. Why have we been deprived of a good fried chicken sandwich/burger up until now beats me? They also have the same Basmati Rice Lager like their other restaurants Semma and Dhamaka and it is my favorite lager for being a non beer person. Do give masala fries a try because these aren’t your usually fries they are the potato bhajji every South Indian household makes in monsoon season.
Got the rice bowl with mild rub fried chicken. The chicken here is extremely crispy, the seasoning reminds me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The manager came out to ask us what we thought of the food, and said the fried chicken coating is a mixture of potato starch and cornstarch. Want to try other flavors next time!
Indian fried chicken has arrived!!! Had to try this spot especially if you’re a fried chicken lover. As you walk Inside it’s definitely a lively view to rooster extravaganza!!! It’s a like a museum for colorful roosters. I tried the mango lassi and friend chicken wings. Wings are pretty big and were not overly cooked. Go check it out if you’re in the penn station area.
I walked past this location before and just decided to stop over for a taste. I haven’t had Indian food in a while. This was delicious!! The Big Rowdy Combo hit the spot. You definitely have to know your Heat Level. This chicken sandwich was so flavor filled and the Masala Chips is a great addition. The Mango Lassi is a must have!!
Even when Rowdy Rooster (EV, RIP) isn't as good as it used to be (RIP, Masala Fries!!! BRING BACK THE BROWNIES!!! They're almost always out of lemonade) or is inconsistent (sometimes the chicken has a freezer-burnt texture, the flavor is still awesome, the value is still better than most similar places, and the customer service is nice & tolerant (they leave you alone and don't judge you when you order the Ghost Pepper then constantly sneeze & weep & wash your hands...), I'll be a regular... the Vada Pov this weekend was nowhere near crispy enough, and they forgot to give us mint chutney for our samosas (which are small, should come four to an order), but this is just me fine-tuning what COULD BE perfection.
Fast food joint serving a very good hot chicken sandwich. I went with the fire which has medium to hot spice level. The flavor is heavy on paprika and cayenne just like Nashville hot but with garam masala I think. My favorite is really the fries, the spicy fries are so good. They have a tandoor spice and great texture between the crunch and the moist fries. So get the spicy fries!! The samosas are ok, get it if you have a craving, but get the spicy fries!!
Came last minute, felt horrible but still served us. Got a grilled chicken salad. I asked for no rice, no cheese, and sauce on the side. The chicken seemed undercooked to me but still good. Like the last bites of chicken did. Also got tenders and a sandwich. The Hakka chill def is spicy. Overall food good and fresh.
Decentplace to grab a quick bite of some Indian style chicken. This place is known to serve up a hearty fried chicken sandwich with some Indian spices. You can purchase some sides along with some Indian style drinks such as Mango Lassi. Their spicy chicken sandwich is decent, I would not say it is great due to the muted spice level (which is subjective). The portions however are satisfying. Overall it's a good place to grab a quick bite and to see what it's about but not a place to keep coming back.
I’ve been to their EV location. This one is less spicy on the lowest spice level. Skip it and do level 2 or 3. I like Thai spicy levels and have the level 4 at their EV location. Today, I had the chilli chicken bowl which had just enough spice to make my mouth tingle but not so much that I was sweating. The bowl is so worth the value. $12 before tax and tip AND I could make two meals out of it. Pro: Cashier was prompt and helpful with the menu. Con: the kitchen is still trying to figure out lunch rush timing even though they’ve been around for 8+ months. The wait was 15-20 minutes from ordering to receiving. Not good for a midtown spot. Overall definitely going again because it’s one of the few spots in Midtown I can get SPICE for lunch!
I ordered a dark meat rowdy sandwich with the maximum spice level. This is absolutely in the top 2 or 3 best chicken sandwiches I've ever had, no question. It's not really fair to compare it to anything else, because the flavor profile is so different from your standard fried chicken sandwich. The chutney or whatever other sauces they put on it are delicious, and the perfect proportion. I decided to dock 1 star overall for two reasons: 1. It's not spicy at all; the heat barely even registered for me. I was led to believe by word of mouth and videos I've watched that it is very hot. So I'm confused. I suspect this location is relatively new compared to the EV location, and/or they don't want to murder the tourists that roll thru Penn and MSG every day. But that's just a guess. 2. The staff seemed relatively unhappy. But nothing that caused any kind of problems. That said, I would 100% recommend trying this.
I ordered Rooster Strips Combo and it was good. Strips were crispy and tasty. I chose level 2 spicy but wasn't spicy enough for my taste. I'll try level 3 next time. Fries were good enough spicy but could be more crispy. Mango lassi was very good. Ambience: The place is small and decor is nice. It doesn't have AC, so if you are planning to visit in NYC summer, then good luck doing dine in. Good option for pickup and eat somewhere else. Service Friendly staff Cost Around 15-20 for a full meal, per person
Absolutely delicious let’s get that right. I had the rooster strips combo with medium spicy. It was well spiced but nothing crazy. It was spot on. The chicken was cooked well and seasoned generously. The masala fries are also great and unique. The price is too high for two chicken strips. My meal for one combo was $24. I was also given the cheapest possible plastic silverware to eat with and it fell apart. Small details, but the reason I can’t give this restaurant a 5. It’s a delicious 4.
Trendy Indian fried chicken shop with colorful decor and fun music. The staff are nice but not very clear about spice levels or portions. I ordered the fried chicken bowl ($14) with mild spice level to be on the safe side and an extra chicken piece (+$3). Compared to the medium it tasted under-seasoned and had no heat. In addition, my bowl with extra chicken looked the same as a regular portion. I would recommend ordering medium or above if you can handle some spice. The location near Penn Station is convenient, though for the price there’s plenty of other options in the vicinity.
I had their grilled chicken bowl- when i was close to finishing, realized it had a big piece of chicken that they failed to cut properly and turned out raw. I have no idea what I ate before realizing it, when I showed it to the guy by the counter, he stayed silent, went inside, then continued working without saying anything, not even saying sorry. This happened around 12.30, if I get poisened due to this I'll take legal action- just don't eat here
