Stopped in with my pup so excited to check this out. Exceeded my expectations. Elegant space, cool vibe, welcoming adorable owners and baristas. And btw I’d go for the perfect cappuccino and their almond croissant even if I didn’t have a dog. But I do. So basically now we may never go anywhere else.

I mean really, what more can a girl ask for than a coffee shop that also has an endless supply of dogs walking through the door? I love the outdoor space here at Black Lab Cafe, it's the perfect spot to both people *and* dog watch on the Upper West Side!

The food here is amazing! I highly recommend the Lemon Square. It’s not too sour, but you still taste the lemon.

My favorite coffee shop in NY. Definitely a go to place either to have a coffee or a matcha (puppy lavender matcha is very good) while you work, or have a nice lunch (their fish tacos are super good). Staff is SO nice and helpful. Great customer experience. Also there are always so many dogs to pet!!

We were running late for the coffee plans and ended up having dinner- so glad we did! Everything was delicious! We ordered several dishes and all exceeded expectations. I highly recommend both salmon options - the salad was perfect. Service was above and beyond with friendly welcoming staff and timely service. Canine companion rates this place 100 stars.

We’re in NYC and found this establishment during our walk. We split the Lunchbox Special and left satiated. Super healthy and tasty ingredients on a large (12 in?) semolina sub roll. Would definitely recommend against other National chains. Now put one in Boston!

The most delicious, mouth watering sandwiches you have ever eaten. Try the Ross, Rachel and Chicken Matzo Ball Sub au Jus before they are gone. My favorite regular sub is Turkey Meatball. Highly recommended.

I saw this place on TikTok while searching for a thanksgiving sandwich to eat and this one came up first! They make iconic versions of popular sandwiches from the tv show friends, the “Ross” and “Rachel. I got the “Ross” and it was perfection. The basil mayo sold me. I ate it so quickly I didn’t have a chance to get a picture haha! 10/10 easy, I’ll be back for more!

I enjoyed the chicken pesto burrata, what a delicious sandwich! The person i was with got the lunchbox special, not a bite was left of either sandwich. I also recommend the ginger lemonade, it packs a little kick because of the ginger. I'll definitely come here again when I am back in NYC

I need to give a special shout out to the manager of this location, undoubtably the kindest, and most appreciative customer service ever. I ordered to go a Caesar salad, asked to have the buffalo chicken Instead of the other chicken that was listed on the menu. I also paid for an extra Caesar dressing on the side. I get home and saw that I did not get any dressing but instead got the regular chicken and two sides of buffalo sauce. I called the restaurant and the manager picked up, he remembered my order. There must’ve just been a communication and and he had given the wrong instructions to the kitchen. He could not have been nicer, he immediately apologized and offered to send me dressing. He set up a full delivery, I got the tracking link, and not only did he send dressing but a handwritten note and extra goodies. It was so above and beyond the only thing I’m upset about is that he was not the one delivering it himself so I could properly tip him. I will absolutely be a regular here.

Love that they adhere to nutritional standards and include no nitrate and no red meat even better. They have lots of fun contest like a flip for 50 a little sandwich happy hour where you get drinks, pickle, a sandwich, and a side of chips for possibly $10 now that’s the way to do it!! I ordered the spicy eggplant Parmesan and it was delicious. I honestly could’ve ordered a second one that’s how good it was!

Went for the first time the other day and I will be back many times, I’m sure. The options are great and their gluten free bread is some of the best I’ve had! Also the staff was friendly and the vibes were good, I loved that they had Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam playing. ✌️

Update: tried their sandy special breakfast sandwich: very good. And service was so kind. Give it a try! Great locally owned spot! I stopped in today and had the lunchbox on gf ciabatta and it slapped! They have really good looking sides as well I will absolutely be ordering. The cookies are homemade and I had to talk myself out of getting another “little treat” but I will be circling back. There is outdoor seating and indoor window spots.

I was around the area and I stopped by this place to grab a sandwich. By the time I stepped in the two employees welcomed me with a warm smile. I placed a to-go order of the turkey meatball sub. I waited for almost ten minutes while they were prepping my sandwich. The place was very clean and organized and my sandwich was delicious! Good job guys

Delicious sandwiches! Amazing service. First time visiting here but won’t be the last. My girlfriend and I went for the Chicken Pesto Burrata and Spicy Eggplant and it didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended. Kudos to the team, especially Eric! Great guy! He honestly left such a great impression on us that we’ll come back.

This corner coffee shop has a cool vibe inside. After ordering an iced latte I was accosted by two happy dogs, not something I was upset about. There is a nice outdoor patio to sit at. The cafe just opened, so their kitchen isn't open yet. Once they have some food to buy I will be sure to return.

Came here because I used to have a Black Lab and miss her terribly, so hoped for some Black Lab related theme. I'm surprised that they don't even have a pic of black labs on their walls while having some other smaller sized breeds. No tennis balls, nothing Black Lab related, really... The food was ok, but not to come back for. Cappuccino was alright.

I wasn't planning on eating lunch at Sandwell. In fact, I never knew this place existed. But, I'm happy that I did. I ordered their chicken parm sandwich and it was delicious! The chicken was juicy, tender and the bread was perfect! The staff was very friendly and I got my sandwich quickly. I will be going back to try some of their other sandwiches.

My recent experience at Black Lab Cafe in New York City was far from what I expected. Despite its name hinting at a pet-friendly vibe, I was surprised to find out that pets weren't allowed inside. This decision took away from the cozy atmosphere I was hoping for. Walking in, I immediately noticed the lack of warmth. Instead of the lively presence of pets, the space felt cold and unwelcoming. This absence definitely dampened the mood. On top of that, the service was mediocre. The staff didn't seem very engaged or interested in making the experience enjoyable. It felt like they were just going through the motions. The food and drinks also left a lot to be desired. The coffee was stale, and the pastries were dry. It seemed like attention to detail was lacking across the board. Overall, my visit to Black Lab Cafe was disappointing. It's unfortunate that such potential is being held back by their no-pet policy and lackluster execution. Unless they reconsider their stance and improve their overall experience, I'll be looking for other cafes that prioritize hospitality and inclusivity.

!!No longer dog friendly!! Should have been open and communicated this or tried for partial hours that were dog friendly. Instead just showed up one day (with the pup) and can no longer go in. There were many many other problems with the business that should have been addressed first before banning dogs…strange move. I know the team tries hard but have to be honest here, food is nowhere near good enough to survive as cafe alone. Coffee is fine but not worth going out of your way when there are other great options in the neighborhood

All these one star reviews are completely correct. This place was such a great addition to the Upper West Side. But now that they don’t allow dogs anymore, why bother? There are plenty of places to get coffee and such. Why couldn’t the owners just leave well enough alone? They will certainly my not make more money as a no dogs allowed cafe! That was the whole point in going there!
