Smile To Go is a pricey eatery located in Gramercy. This is the sister restaurant to the one in SoHo which I used to frequent when I worked at The French Culinary Institute several times a week notably for their excellent chocolate chip cookies. I came here to have a bite of lunch. The sandwich had an unusual cheese and greens. Filling but not tasty. I also took a blueberry muffin which was studded with many berries and tasted wholesome. I took half home. There is plenty of seating and few customers. It's open early for breakfast. The restroom is on the second floor as it's part of the hotel. Before I left, I saw some four pastries lying on a plate. I asked Alia if they sold them half price as this place closes at 4 pm. She sold me what turned out to be a very tasty sticky bun for $2 cash.
Really great value cafe in NYC with lovely staff. The coffee is very good, where else can you get scrambled eggs on toast with greens for $11.98? And their lunches are generous with great salad sides. The best!
Loved their variety of healthy options for food! We were staying next door at the Freehand and stopped here almost every morning for a coffee. The staff was kind and our orders always came out quickly. For being a relatively smaller place, they have a reasonable amount of seating inside!
Amazing matcha lemonade at a great price point! I paid $5 for a medium, and it was delicious. Highly recommend! 5/5 stars from me!
Excellent food and service on the Lex
This is one of my staples: the food is always interesting, fresh and healthy. The eggplant caponata is the best. And the lamb meatballs are pretty tasty too. The indoor space is really nice too: huge windows, plenty of room to sit with these nice picnic-style tables. During the lockdown, they've set up a really nice outdoor space too.
Really god croissants and coffee. Bright, clean and quick service. Food cooked fresh. Perfect for hotel guests at Freehand too.

My absolute favorite spot in the neighborhood, I dine-in, take-out and also ordering catering for my office on a weekly basis from here. The food is always super fresh and delicous and the coffee is great too! The staff are the friendliest and kindest people. The space has every possible option for seating in a lovely, clean, modern space. Whether you want a quiet corner to study or take a call, people watch at the window or lounge in a comfy recliner, it's all possible here. Highly recommend!
Really good cappuccino, served as a 'true' cappuccino with a shot of espresso and the correct amount of milk, may look small but the quality makes up for it. Fantastic pastries too, the apple pastry in particular was amazing with fantastic, flaky pastry and perfect apple filling. Super fast and friendly service too, perfect for the hotel next door.
I recently used the bookkeeping services at this accounting firm and thought I'd share my experience. They were thorough and organized, making the whole process smooth and straightforward. Although my notes were brief, I felt well taken care of during my visit. The staff seemed knowledgeable, which was reassuring. If you're looking for a place that handles bookkeeping efficiently, this firm might be worth considering. Hope this helps someone trying to make a decision!
SNAGGED the Salmon Plate using MealPal and Smile To Go knocked it out of the park. Super satisfying combo with fresh salmon, sweet dates, and that nutritious kale. The citrusy vinaigrette over quinoa tied it all together. Healthy and flavorful!
I don’t usually visit this place often to get my coffee, and honestly, I find it unnecessary to write bad reviews or give people a hard time — especially lately. I truly hope my words won’t upset anyone. I visited yesterday, and the lady at the counter served me. It was partly my fault for not mentioning the coffee size right away, and I understand that our misunderstanding was simple and unintentional. This small encounter shouldn’t lead to a negative review, because this café doesn’t deserve to be judged based on one unpleasant moment. However, I’d like to make a small remark: Please, when someone comes in to order coffee, try to hand over the right cup size or simply show it from a distance. Students like me are often in a hurry to get to class each morning. If I seemed impolite, I sincerely apologize. Because indeed, it was my fault not mentioning the coffe size at the very beginning. Especially because my tone of voice was loud, I know it's not an excuse. Still, if I were in your position, I would never place a cup on the counter forcefully or say, “You’re the one who’s asking me.” Which's why I said carelessly, "I just want to pay and go," one last thing — to the gentleman in charge, (or reading this): please consider getting stoppers for the coffee cups. It would really help. And still the coffee, tasted actually really nice. And I wish you wonderful day. And please, I hope my comment won't upset or influence you negatively.
I’m learning to enjoy chickpeas, and I originally had my mind set on salmon… but I am so glad I went with the chicken and chickpeas with gravy! Omg, omg — it’s the kind of good that makes you want to slap your knee. The cucumber salad and Caesar on the side were perfect, and that Caesar was honestly one of the best I’ve had. I can’t wait to be back in the presence of Smile to Go! Hurry up and go — your stomach and your face will smile.

Just went for the first time and got the salmon with 2 sides. Delicious and the staff were lovely! Some one had mentioned in an earlier reviews the portions were small. Definitely not the case now.

The matcha wasn’t tasty, and the avocado toast was simple, just okay. The place itself is great with a nice interior, but the kitchen and the vibe need some improvement.
Stayed at the freehand and got coffee in the morning at Smile to go and on the 2nd day, the lady taking my order remembered my name. That was really sweet seeing how busy they are. Bagel came hot and comforting. Coffee is good, well balanced but beans are a little sour to my liking.
Little spot serving several fresh dishes. The salads tasted good. You also have several breakfast options. Given the quality, the prices are rather high.
Very nice place to grab a coffee! All the baristas were pretty good and I’ve tried a beautiful cappuccino and Iced latte. The kitchen should improve a little. I ordered an avocado toast and had just a little bit of avocado. Also I didn’t like the plastic cutlery. Everything else was nice, the staff were also very kind.
I was walking by this place and decided to come in and it was a pleasant surprise! I got an oat milk latte and the breakfast burrito and it was so good! The latte was decent but nothing extraordinary. But the breakfast burrito with its little salsa verde was so amazing! It was so filling and warm! I ended up walking all the way to Brooklyn after this (during a rainy day) because this burrito powered me through. Service here was okay- the guy at the counter seemed stoned and he was slow but the other guy who gave me my food and swept/ cleared tables was really nice. Anyway, this place based on coffee and service would be a 2.5/5 but the burrito alone makes it a 4/5. Trust me!

There was ample seating and the cafe is connected to the Freehand NY hotel. I got the Market Plate, which allows us to pick 3 market sides available. Per the staff's rec, I chose the Kale Salad, the Couscous, and Sweet Potatoes with Beets. The food tasted fine/ok. The couscous was pretty good and had a fresh distrust taste - would recommend! Aside from the Sides I chose, they had Carrots and Quinoa as other options. Super friendly staff and the business is clean and comfortable. For restrooms, you'll be directed to the ones in the Freehand hotel on the 2nd fl. They're very clean and there's a cozy seating area upstairs as well.

If you are a baruch student and youre thinking of eating here, DONT! The food lacked flavor and the pepper shaker exploded on me. I was going in because I was in a rush and did not feel like looking for other options so I could make it to class, but was heavily disappointed instead. I have an image to show the lack of SMILE in my food. However, the cashier was super nice but I would not recommend coming here to eat.

Ugh, I’ve been coming here periodically for years (work around the corner) and the service is absolutely terrible. All I ever need is a simple coffee and it seems to take forever, people behind me get served before I do (and have more complicated orders). The staff behind the counter always seem completely aloof. Every time I try to give them another chance, I always regret it. Too bad.
