One phenomenal course after another! And for the first and only time, my husband left an omakase completely satisfied. Usually, he needs a late night snack to stop the hunger pangs. Ishikawa’s portions were so generous and filling that he didn’t have to ruin the memory of a fantastic meal with an order of fries. The bar was friendly and fun, the beverage menu will chosen and reasonably priced. The fish was perfect in every way, from rhe freshness and cut to the toppings and presentation. Nothing but love for this place. We’ll be back again and again.
A superlative sushi experience. Chef Don has broken the mold with some of the most indulgent combinations that I have ever tasted. With an endless stream of truffle, uni, and caviar adorning various cuts of fish; it was truly an extravagant affair. Absolutely phenomenal and can't wait to dine here again.
The BEST sushi in New York. Get in while it's still easy and the best servers around, they make you feel so welcomed and taken care of and props to our lovely Chef Lin.
This is the best Omakase in NYC. Chef Don treats every customer like family and the experience is amazing. The fish quality is 10/10. I have eaten here 10+ times and will keep coming back.
Probably one of my favorite omakase experiences. Chef Don is a master and prepared every course to perfection. We appreciated that he was able to cater to some specific dietary restrictions in our group. The service was top notch and the vibes were great. Excellent sake selection too. The staff recommended some great bottles. Truly a special and unique experience.
Wow what an amazing omakase! Each piece is better than the one before. Our server Owen made our experience, he described the pieces perfectly and made our night so fun! Will definitely be back
Dining at Sushi Ishikawa UES is to witness the fine edge between craftsmanship and art. Having experienced omakase at some of Japan’s most venerated counters, I can attest that the mastery displayed here stands comfortably among the elite. What Chef Don Phan and his team achieve is not simply sushi, it is the embodiment of harmony, tempo, and restraint. Each of the seventeen courses unfolds like a movement in a symphony. The pacing is exquisite: delicate introductions giving way to bold crescendos of umami and texture. The opening bites, pristine seafood resting on perfectly seasoned shari, awaken the palate, while later compositions, such as buttery otoro crowned with caviar or uni paired with crisp gold leaf, bring a near-transcendent depth of flavor. The interplay of temperature and timing is meticulous; every piece is shaped and served at its fleeting moment of perfection. Technique is on full display from the subtle torching that teases aroma from wagyu, to the layering of crab and toro that melts like silk. The rice, lightly warm and impeccably balanced in vinegar, provides the heartbeat of the meal. Even the visual presentation of shimmering roe, edible gold, shiso leaf, is a quiet nod to Japanese aesthetics: minimal, intentional, beautiful. Service mirrors the cuisine. Attentive without intrusion, professional yet warm. Each dish arrives with grace and rhythm, allowing diners to be absorbed fully in the progression of taste and texture. By the final hand roll, the meal feels less like dinner and more like a journey: a sequence of sensations that remind you why sushi, when done at this level, belongs in the pantheon of culinary art. Sushi Ishikawa is a masterclass in precision, humility, and passion — an omakase experience that both honors tradition and dares to reach higher. Arigatou gozaimashita to Chef Phan and his remarkable team. Their omotenashi and shokunin spirit transform every bite into a moment of pure harmony.
Came here for my boyfriend’s dinner and had an incredible experience. Chef Lin and the staff were flawless—their attention to detail, kindness, and professionalism made the night so special. Chef Lin himself was wonderful to talk to, and the food was outstanding—one of the best omakase experiences I’ve ever had. The wine list was excellent, and the ambiance, service, and quality of food were all top-notch. I would definitely come back again.
Where do I even begin? We flew in from Florida just for this reservation, and when our flight was delayed, we were heartbroken. Thankfully, the universe came through—another plane was arranged, and we made it to our reservation just in time. I want to give special thanks to Mini (apologies if I misspelled her name), who was incredibly kind and patient over the phone. She guided me through the emotional rollercoaster of the flight delay and made sure we still felt taken care of. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Our chef’s skill was beyond impressive, and the entire experience felt so warm and personal—almost like dining with family. The sushi was unbelievably fresh, easily the best we’ve ever had. Having just returned from a trip to Japan, we were stunned by how comparable, if not even better, the quality was. 10/10 experience. It's something we will remember forever. We will definitely be back!!!!!!!! Thank you so much again!
All I can say is WOW!!! This was my first omakase experience and all I can say is 10/10!!! From start to finish we were blown away! The meticulous work put into each course was superb! The service was impeccable, so attentive and explained each dish to us. Absolutely recommend!! Dont walk, RUN!!
I’ve been to over 15 omakases in NYC the last 2 years and this was probably my top 3 favorite omakases yet. There was not a bad bite in the entire 17 course meal. Additionally, the trout was my absolute favorite nigiri bite I’ve had out of all the omakases I’ve been to. Service was also impeccable, everyone was so kind and considerate. From the chef to the waiters, everyone was so funny and genuine and great. I was smiling the whole night. 10/10 sushi in terms of quality and quantity - I’ve never had an omakase with so many luxary bites. 10/10 service and 10/10 environment.
I went there for a solo dinner on a Saturday. The server was really friendly and welcoming, made me feel accompanied, and did a great job on explaining the ingredients. Unlike some other places I’ve tried, the chef was really creative with the sushi by mixing and matching different kinds of fish. He was also really generous with the caviar lol. The flavor was a little strong like others say however, but overall the food was impeccable. Their secret menu (the one with a quailed egg on top) is a must try!! Will definitely bring friends and family there next time!
Sushi Ishikawa dishes out an incredible omakase in a beautiful brick restaurant. Each step on the sushi journey took you to a different place. It’s tough to pick favorites because each course impresses in unique ways. From fatty toro, to wagyu, to a quail egg, the food will make you want to start again from the beginning. Service was excellent. Staff are super friendly and attentive. I’ve been to several omakase spots in the city, and this is by far the best one. I’m already thinking of an excuse to return!
BEST OMAKASE IN NYC! This is mine and my husband’s favorite omakase place. We love that it’s not traditional omakase and it’s more of a fun fusion! Chef Dom is also such a joy to be around as well. He’s funny and very nice. When we go, he always makes sure to greet us or be seated where he will be. Which we really appreciate. We also love Charlie, the waiter. He’s so nice and fun to talk to! It is expensive, but it’s definitely worth every penny! Especially, if you are celebrating a special occasion! The sushi is very fresh and each piece/dish is so flavorful! Literally obsessed to the point I got my favorite 5 as tattoos! If you’re in the city visiting, this is a must go to spot especially if you’re an omakase lover!
One of THE best values for Omakase dining in the City! Don Pham takes a unique approach to his art by combining traditional sushi flavors & textures with the earthy richness of foie gras, shaved black truffles and seared wagyu. Each bite is a delectable explosion of taste. The wine & sake menu is not to be underestimated and perfectly matched to the incredible cuisine. But, what really ties this all together is the vibe! While you may see folks dressed to the nines, you'll find as many - if not more - dressed casually. There is nothing stuffy or pretentious about this place! Sushi Ishikawa is all about a good time with friends, family & amazing food. Don and his incredible staff go out of their way to insure everyone has a memorable experience. It's one of the reasons why we keep coming back time after time.
One of the better omakase spots I’ve been to for NYC. Caught a last minute reservation for last minute dinner plans with a friend. Arrived 20 minutes late due to the usual traffic and parking. The staff are friendly and courteous. We had the 17 course with some additional specials as well. I really enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere was great. It’s easy to have a conversation at the chef’s counter and great to watch them create the sushi. Our waitress, Emma, made sure to treat all of her guests with compassion and diligence. I would definitely come back again.
In absolute awe of this rollercoaster of a ride. Hands down best sushi i’ve ever had, with an overwhelming and jaw dropping amount of creative and fresh flavors blended together. Every bite was so different, yet even more impressive than the last. Several pieces made me feel like I had a world class meal in each bite. There is no comparison that i’ve come across. Worth every penny. We did the 15 course $150 plus the Wagyu $20 and the Sake pairing $55. The Wagyu was better than the Japanese steakhouses i’ve had in the city alone. So much buttery flavor with the ideal amount of grill flavor touched upon it. Definitely worth $20 a piece, you’ll be paying more at other places for less quality! The sake pairing was amazing. 5 unique glasses across dinner, with a variety of flavor between them all. It was its own omakase experience just for the drinks! The servers were world class, and absolutely made our night. They were there to make us feel at home and I felt like we made friends with them by the end of our meal, that’s how damn good they were. For outdoor dining, they bring you piece by piece on a plate, and server you your sake every 3 pieces. Food: 10/10 Every bite will leave you discussing with your group the myriad of flavors. World class sushi and freshness that can’t be matched Menu: 5/5 Plenty of options outside the Omakase. Great for all sushi lovers Experience: 5/5 The servers, the venue, the presentation, everything was absolutely awesome Value: 3/5 On par for other Omakase restaurants. The quality may be better, but the total price being $275 with the 15 course + sake pairing + Wagyu + tip might be a turn off for some. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience i recommend regardless of price tag.
Honest review after dining in Christmas Eve: Food was alright, nothing special. I found it to not match its price point, it was similar to the $100 range omakases. The slices of the fish were quite thin, so it felt like we weren’t getting much. Also, on the night that we went they didn’t let us use apply pay when clearly that is suppose to be an option on any other night. Definitely bring a physical card if want to secure those cash backs. Overall 6.5/10 given the fact that I didn’t feel like it matched its price point.
The freshness and precise cuts of the sushi were commendable. However, the size of the sushi pieces was slightly smaller compared to the standard omakase portions. While some of the sushi offerings were well-received, there were instances where the combination of ingredients overpowered the delicate flavors of the fish. This resulted in a loss of the distinct taste that is expected from high-quality sushi. Despite this, the service provided was exceptional, with the staff demonstrating a thorough understanding of each dish and providing detailed explanations. The attentiveness and thoughtfulness of the servers further enhanced the overall dining experience.
Sushi Ishikawa is a modern omakase experience on the UES. We had made reservations the day before and were running late so called ahead. They were so kind and the sushi chef caught us up to the rest of the diners once we were seated. We ordered two carafes of sake to pair with our sushi, both were good and refreshing. There were many courses as expected but overall the fish was very fresh and each piece was unique. Each fish did have some sort of topping- so if you’re a purist you may not like the omakase here. It was fun for us to try these new presentations! Although some of them seemed like throwing expensive ingredients like uni, truffle, caviar, and even gold flakes to make the high price point. I’d say it’s worth it but again, if you’re more into traditional omakase than this place may be too fun for your taste! Highlights were the Chawanmushi, toro, uni on toast, some fish I forget with a fried shiso leaf, and the matcha panna cotta for me. I also need to mention the ginger- it came in small cubes and was the perfect little bite. We were celebrating that night and were also offered champagne at the end of the night. Our service was EXCEPTIONAL and our experience was highly memorable. Our server and staff explained each piece in detail. Our server was so kind and engaging and we had some light conversation about some of the highlights which was really nice. Also the fact that they seated us late and were able to catch us up was very considerate. Some omakase places may leave out the ones you missed or not seat you if you’re late enough. Overall, not sure I would come again for the food on my own but would bring a new friend if they were looking for a fun omakase experience.
