TsuruTonTan is a popular Japanese restaurant known for its large portions of udon served in massive bowls. The udon is handmade and the service is excellent, with staff being attentive and helpful. Happy hour is a plus, but some find certain dishes too salty.

This is one of my place to go when we’re craving for Japanese food in midtown. The location is really close to Rockefeller, so you can walk around after. Their service is great! and everything in restaurant is just perfect!
I highly recommend Tsuru Ton Tan in Midtown. The food is amazing, but what keeps my friend and I coming back on a nearly weekly basis is the staff. The bartenders and servers, particularly Francis and Maria, are FANTASTIC! They are incredibly attentive and friendly, always give great recommendations on the specials, and all around, they are the best. This is definitely a go-to place for us!
Tsuru Ton Tan in Midtown is a beautiful and modern Japanese restaurant with flavors that date back to when udon was first created. The udon noodles are handmade daily, perfectly chewy and smooth, served in iconic oversized bowls with a deep super umami dashi broth that is so satisfying you will want to finish every last drop. Beyond the famous udon, the sushi and sashimi selection is excellent, fresh, clean, and thoughtfully prepared, making this a great choice even for non noodle lovers. At Tsuru Ton Tan, Japanese comfort food, bold flavors, and polished hospitality come together seamlessly, offering a truly traditional Japanese vibe.
The first time I ended up here was unplanned, just happened to walk by it. Was pleasantly surprised that it was happy hour, not just for drinks, but for large dishes as well. I always order the truffle crab cream udon. It’s by far my favorite. Staff is friendly and helpful with recommendations as well! Shared a bottle of sake with two friends. Server gave us the option of corking it and taking it to go if we didn’t finish it, but we did. I enjoy the low lighting ambiance, perhaps the place could use music or something lively. Overall one of my favorite spots for noodles.
This Japanese udon restaurant has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. When we visited on December 30, it was very busy, so reservations are recommended. The udon is clearly their specialty and well worth ordering. The cold spicy beef udon was especially delicious, flavorful, and well prepared. There was some confusion with the sashimi set we ordered. The menu appeared to indicate that the set included an udon of our choice, but we were served a small, plain udon without additional ingredients. The server explained this at the table, but since the menu was no longer available and we could not recall the exact wording, we later realized the description was somewhat misleading. Given that the set costs $30, clearer menu wording would be helpful. Overall, the food quality is strong, particularly the udon, and the dining experience would benefit from clearer menu descriptions.
We had such an amazing experience at this restaurant. We had reservations for a group of 8 on Christmas Day, and were seated immediately once we got there. The service is exceptional and the food was even better than I expected. One of the waiters, who was very knowledgeable in whiskey and other spirits, recommended drinks which were perfect to my taste. I forgot his name, but he had glasses on, and we had a nice conversation about bourbon and Japanese whiskeys. Please thank him and our waitress for me. Great food and great service, is what will have me return again. Thank you and merry Christmas!
Excellent service. From Kevin at the door (professional) to Maria at the table (super warm and great recommendations! Food is really good. Udon is really the standout here. Wagyu truffle udon is really good and the maitake mushroom starter is fantastic. Sushi and tempura are very good, though not spectacular. Good value for money.
First and foremost the service is outstanding. My party has several individuals that had not done hotnpot before and they were very helpful in explaining it all. They were also very attentive without being bothersome The food was plentiful, well prepared and delicious. I highly recomend taking on the hot pot when in the colder times and the sushi we ordered along with was particularly good. We liked the shrimp tempura, spicy salmon and blue crab the best
I’m a frequent diner at Tsurutontan’s Midtown location, and it never disappoints. The first thing anyone notices are the massive bowls — they always leave an impression and make the meal feel special. I also appreciate how easy it usually is to get a Resy on weeknights, which makes it a reliable go-to spot. The space is clean, modern, and roomy (a rarity in Midtown), and the food is consistently flavorful. For first-timers, I’d recommend the Tsurutontan Deluxe, but my personal favorites are the Wagyu Truffle Udon and the Sukiyaki Deluxe — both are deeply satisfying and rich in flavor. The sushi is good as well and pairing it with a small bowl udon brings the best of both worlds. Service isn’t overly attentive, but I actually find that works well if you’re there to have a conversation without interruptions. Overall, it’s a solid spot for comfort food in a stylish setting, whether you’re introducing friends to udon or just craving a familiar favorite.
This is a great place to eat if your looking for something last minute, they seated us just before lunch time without a reservation, however I recommend a reservation as it soon got very busy afterwards. The food was authentic, delicious and the portions were large. The staff are friendly and it’s a great place to take a date.
Similar to the location in Tokyo I have been to, this restaurant in NYC has famous big bowls of udon of different flavors. Everything we ordered had a good taste (including my phone that slipped into the bowl of noodles). Sizzling shrimp udon could have some more flavor to it. Staff is polite and respectful. I would definitely come back.
I was craving Japanese curry and came across this spot on Seamless, so I ordered the Katsu Curry Don for pickup. The udon noodles were spot on—springy and bouncy with the perfect texture. The curry itself, though, was lighter than I’d hoped, a bit watery and lacking boldness. The katsu portion was also pretty small, which was disappointing. Overall, it was decent, and I’d be open to trying other dishes on the menu next time.
Overall an okay spot to have a corporate lunch which is exactly why I came here. Our group was rather large but we didn’t have to wait since it’s fairly empty during the weekdays. The food was okay, nothing really stood up but the portions are huge. The service was great and everything came out fairly quickly. Not sure if I’d come back again but a good option for a team outing.
