Every time I have been here I have a great experience. Great breakfast, great waitresses, great atmosphere! My husband and I moved to Dearborn Heights area a few years ago, and after this long we finally found our breakfast spot! We had been eating here for almost a 6 months regularly about once a week or so. Then we had our daughter so going out to eat with a newborn was not in the cards for us, now the pandemic. We can't wait to come in again soon!
It's amazing what changes have been made. It was very drab when I first started eating here over ten years ago. Today, the decor has been updated to reflect a more trendy dining experience. The menu is not much different from what they have had in the past. The service has improved. We ordered a couple of burgers and a grilled cheese. Everything was well made and our requests were quickly handled. We will be back in the near future .
First time eating here and I was not disappointed! Excellent homemade fried cheese sticks and probably the best BLT pizza I have had anywhere, the crust was amazing. If you've never eaten here you are in for a pleasant surprise. I will definitely be going back.
First time back after the grand re-opening and I couldn't be more satisfied! The BBQ Bacon Burger was easily one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! Fresh, juicy, seasoned and cooked to perfection! Not to mention the homemade fried pickles were awesome too! Highly recommend!
Stumbled onto this place after the other restaurant we were looking at was closed. The best backup restaurant ever! The food was amazing, portions were large and you can tell they clean their fryers because their homemade cheese sticks were very flavorful without having that 'old grease' taste. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND WILL MAKE THIS STOP A MUST WHENEVER IN TOWN.
We Love the food here. All the Salads are amazing. The service is always top notch. Thank you for keeping your kitchen open late nights. We appreciate you. 👏🏽👏🏽💯💖 It's truly hard to find anyone with decent food serving after 8p.m.
Andy is the best bartender/host that I have ever met in my life. He makes you feel positive. He understands that everyone is human, and he loves people. I never leave reviews... as an old school generation this in my first. 5 Stars... Bravo Andy. Service is #1... most important.
What a great spot! Fantastic fresh quality food! We stopped for a bite and watch the wings game and hadGreat friendly service! Salad was huge with fresh greens and toppings. Homemade dressing which is always a big deal. Chicken wrap was delightful! We will definitely be back.
Great service from Andy the bartender. Food was much better than I expected. I had the zip sauce pasta with blackened chicken. Black Label was my go to place. Now I’m going to have to change that. Second time here I orders chicken piccata, it was fabulous. We met the owner, a fellow Dago. It’s a hidden Gem.
You have to try the Biscuits with Cherries, those Biscuits are buttery, flaky and to die for. Service was great too.
Super good food,Super friendly staff good priced!
Great food and great service. My first time here, and I will definitely be back.
Been here over a dozen times now. It's clear the kitchen staff take pride in their work. The produce used is always fresh. Corn beef egg rolls are so good. Pasta dishes and the ribeye are also top notch.
I always get a carry out, employees are always on top of making sure my bag has all necessary items, and the food is just delicious. I order at least once a month but sometimes crave it so bad it’s more frequent. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Had dinner with my granddaughter. Good food. Spent 50 dollars for 3 of us. It was trivia night. Lots of background noise, but could still have a conversation without raising our voices.
The food was amazing! Amazing atmosphere, staff wearing masks, 6 feet apart, amazing customer service. Would recommend this place! The food was really cheap especially the Buffalo wings. If I hadn’t have eaten the food I would have posted a picture, but just know the chicken had a lot of flavor and tasted fresh. Will be coming here again.
Love the Michigan Salad and my husband likes their chicken wraps and sandwiches. They're very nice there. We always do take out and they're prompt in helping us. Not really a fan of the award winning chili. It's good but the fact it's win multiple contests made my expectations super high
This is an excellent place to go for a drink and some food after work with your family for dinner or even just some drinks later in the night. They have a excellent clean facility. They do have two gentlemen who play Live music, I'm not sure when, but they are absolutely excellent at what they do and are super friendly. 10 out of 10 I would recommend. Also, they have an excellent beer selection.
By far my favorite restaurant in town. My advice to first timers, if it sounds good and it's on the menu, then it's gonna be good. My personal favorite is the classic breakfast. That consists of two eggs any style, two slices of toast, delicious crispy redskin potatoes, and your choice of meat (they don't skimp on the meat either). Love the famous chicken strips too for lunch. Good dinner options include the grilled ribeye steak, the 1/2 baked chicken, and the pork chops among others. Great food, wonderful service, and decent prices. Tony & Co know their stuff!
We were all over the place eating today. Tuna salad…very good, not soggy. Lettuce crisp. Veggie omelette… it was good. Not the best I’ve had. It wasn’t blended all together. The presentation and quality was excellent. My brother swallowed the cheeseburger. He said it was a 9/10 and he eats burgers all the time. The club sandwich was fresh and tasty. However I witnessed it falling apart. My sister still ate it. Our server Sophia was very polite. She did a great job and thankful for our generous tip. We will be back. This was our second time here. The restaurant was clean along with the bathrooms. We will be back.
Husband and I have lived in Westland for 2.5 years and just tried this place! The staff was so kind, the restaurant was clean, the food was INCREDIBLE. We got the pizza, burger and mozzarella sticks. All veggies were fresh and mozzarella sticks were homemade. Service was fast! Can't wait to go back and try the breakfast!
Last time I was there was over 15yrs ago and it has since changed. They completely redid the inside and it looks amazing. The food for brunch was delicious. Will def be going back. Start with a bloody Mary and then Florentino Betty which is two poached eggs over homestyle biscuits with spinach and mushrooms with holindaze sauce and you get a side of their potatoes. Mmmm delicious! Check it out
A gem hiding in Garden City! The atmosphere is very cozy with friendly staff and food that keeps you coming back for more!
Garden City Cafe is a very good restaurant, their service is great. They have many options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serve them anytime. The price of the food is reasonable. I did enjoy the appetizer called Saginaki (opa) which is flaming cheese, the Michigan wrap and the tuna wrap.
We were a group of 14 for lunch. Our server was excellent. I believe his name was Justin. He was very patient, efficient and friendly. Food was excellent and we will definitely be back.
Came here for first time with my aunt and 6 year old daughter. The food was excellent and our server and the rest of the staff were very friendly. Restaurant is very clean. We will definitely be back again.
Great for comfort and good food. Nice relaxing atmosphere.
Awesome crew team, and amazing food. Me and my friends come here every party at the high school just to chill out after a fun night. Me and my friends had some memorable experiences and the owner is very polite. We stop by sometimes after going to planet fitness to just have a snack and we've talked to him a few times. I've also had my first date here.
I love this place. Only thing is I wish they were on DoorDash or uber eats. I don't always feel like leaving the house, I would order delivery all the time.
What is it about lemon, salmon and capers? It is a favorite combination, my food was GREAT. Really enjoyed! This is my 4th visit here (I come to visit Pepe's Salt Spa down the street from out of county) and it is my GO TO! Clean, light, airy, friendly!! A true hidden gem. Lucky you, Garden City
Heard about this place from a few people. Finally decided to check it out. My husband was reluctant after reading the 1 star reviews. We quickly realized something didn't add up. Several of the reviews are either 1 star or 5 star. Reading the 1 star reviews they almost seemed fake, didn't make any sense. we went today for brunch, the staff was very welcoming, the atmosphere was good, and the food was fantastic! I had chicken and waffles. The chicken was hand breaded and really good. My husband had a breakfast wrap that he said was great and the Bloody Mary was killer. The prices were very reasonable, and nothing like what the online reviews claimed. The menu offers a lot of options. We look forward to addibg this place into our rotation and trying more of what they have to offer. Recommend!
The food is excellent and so is the service..nice big bar to sit at!
Stopped for drinks with the girls, service was great! Atmosphere was so nice. We really enjoyed ourselves!
Ordered carryout. Food was great, portions were decent size, service was quick, will definitely try more items from there menu.
Food was good. The staff was great. We came in on Tuesday trivia night which was amazing.
Random pick for breakfast but it didn't disappoint. Warm welcome and we had couple Benny dishes and waffles n chicken. The kids and wife enjoyed the place. Note that they will charge extra for credit card use so it's better to have some cash on hands. And yes, they have every right to charge extra so don't cry about it.
I come here often for large portions of delicious food, a variety of rotating beers, delicious cocktails, and awesome staff. Andy the bartender is awesome! Tony is a nice guy too, he makes his rounds and talks to everyone while he's there. They do trivia/opinionation twice a week and have really great lunch specials. This has been my favorite place to go for a couple of years now. Their pasta dishes are highly recommended! Great appetizers too.
The food here is so much better than the local competition. Home cooked meal vibes. Come here with my parents/my girlfriend's parents all the time and always leave full&happy!
BEST salmon dinner around. I crave it and I am not even a fan of fish!! All the food is superb and you get a lot of it! Diamond in the rough place, proud to have it in our little town. Owner is very kind and pays close attention to his place, once he even made my husband and I a specialty pizza (heard us asking about something not on the menu) :}
Dinner tonight…burger, loaded grilled cheese and au gratin potatoes! Food was served very hot, visually appealing and delicious. Best grilled three cheese I ever ate with extra crispy thick bacon and tomato on Texas toast… Our server, Teresa, was kind and attentive. Excellent service…. Atmosphere was very festive. Love the Christmas decorations. Look forward to returning….
In my experience this locally owned restaurant is a great place for really good, home-cooked food, a nice atmosphere to hang out, clean bathrooms and nice people.
Always a great experience. We truly loved the Dessert offerings aswell as the food. Had a lovely dinner w my 12 year old son he fully approved of his burger and the cinnamon bun stack afterwards.
Absolutely 10 out of 10. I have driven past this bar hundreds of times over the years and I finally stopped in about a month ago. I have have literally been back to this bar twice a week since my first visit. The bartenders and waitresses are outstanding people. All have been kind and polite providing great service. Justice, Jessie, & Andy might be the best trio of bartenders in the area. Me & my wife have had drinks made from all 3 and they were all perfect. The food is on another level in terms of flavor and value. I literally try a new dish each visit and each time they knock it out of the park. Definitely some of the best food in the area. I was told by our waitress on our first visit that we would be back and a month later I have returned 8 times. The weekend breakfast menu is too notch. I have young ones that are picky eaters. I took them for breakfast and this is the first time that I've see them clean their playes. Overall this is an outstanding bar and grille. I cant speak highly enough about this place.
This place is great. Very decent bar food and a good list of entrees in addition to the regular sandwiches, burgers and wings. A good beer selection and some specialty cocktails as well. It's particularly easy for a largish group to come and eat together - they didn't mind setting us up with a reservation for 15 and splitting the bill several ways - service was very smooth and the food was great. We had the fried pickles, buffalo wings and burgers. The black and blue burger was perfect, served with fresh, hot fries. The wings are breaded and large; sauced and served with homemade ranch. We love it here!
Always the best food! Even though it was busy (Saturday), our server was right on our food and service order. Drinks and food served quickly. Quite impressive. Definitely would recommend to all.
I have never gotten anything I didn't love! This place is my favorite spot. I recommend their homemade chicken fingers, corned beef rolls, and their burgers. Although they have a pricey breakfast, everything served is well worth the price.
We were looking for a place that still served dinner at 9pm, so glad to find this place!! Wasn’t too busy at that time. The staff were really nice and the food was fantastic! California Wrap was incredible, salad was huge - enough to take home for a second meal. Love the fries too! Prices were what you would expect for this quantity and quality.
I have been coming here with my GF for about 2 years now, she’s been coming longer and knows the family well. This place a definite local spot for us. The staff is always super friendly and the cooks don’t get enough credit. I’ve had many things on the menu but I we both love the Salmon dinner. Hope this helps with any decision making. P.S. The chili is amazing
As a local, finding this spot a few months ago has been awesome. I’ve come all different times and days. I didn’t know how I didn’t notice the past changes. Every food item I’ve had has been great. I’ve done the brunch over 3 times and can’t believe how good the corned beef is. Drinks are great, service is great..I’ve met most of them. Owner cares. One of my favorite spots for food and drinks.
REALLY impressed with this little place! Was so pleasantly surprised when brought here by some local relations... Was greeted after being seated by Tony the extremely cordial owner- Service was pretty good, but the server was very busy. The food was awesome!!! Prices very reasonable... Decorated beautifully, and extremely clean and seemingly well organized. We would definitely return next time in the area...
2022 update: They did an amazing job remodeling this restaurant. My wife and I came in for breakfast and it was delicious. The service was attentive and our food came out promptly. I highly recommend stopping in! Pre Covid: They were pretty busy when I came in Sunday morning but the staff was very friendly and attentive. I had the Swiss and mushroom omelette and it was delicious. I highly recommend stopping in! It’s a really cute local diner!
This place is a HIDDEN GEM. I ordered BLT pizza, it was phenomenal. Everything is homemade. Try it with ranch and Italian dressing on the side. Sat at the bar ordered two mule drinks, that were excellent! Bartender/server Amanda very friendly and knowledgeable. Tony the owner spent time getting to know me and telling me the story behind the remodel of the business. I felt like I was at a pub downtown royal oak or downtown detroit. Awesome first experience. I will be back very soon. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
It's definitely too expensive for the food quality. Pizza was pretty greasy but some people like that. Not a bad place, I just think they are trying to be higher class than they actually are. Corned beef egg rolls are good.
We've been dining here occasionally for the past 15yrs and it's gradually gone down hill in terms of quality of the food. The owner just remodeled and that looks nice but the menu is still the same which is fine but again, the food is very mediocre. This is a last resort stop anymore. Update as of July 2020. Wow, what an improvement! The menu has changed, I'm glad to see the prices are a bit more reasonable and the atmosphere, vibe, music honestly reminds me of being in NYC! I had a morning bloody mary and it was the best I've had in awhile! I ordered the egg and cheese rolls over spinach and they were very good, different. I'd totally order them again and honestly, I can't wait to go back to try something new off the menu.
This restaurant appears to have been recently remodeled, with new flooring and counters, and the project seems to still near the completed stage. The food has very good portions and is a great value for the money! We're a family of three (one less than 2 years) and our average total ticket here is around $30 including tip! The staff is very helpful and nice and love to wave and talk to our son and make him feel at home. The food comes out fast, so he doesn't have a chance to get impatient without food in front of him.
The Nacho Burger is spot on!!!!! We appreciated being served dinner even though we came in shortly before kitchen closed. (Sorry worked late and this the first time we didn't have the kids in years). The food was awesome. Would have been 5 star rating but the waitress wasn't the greatest
This place has come far from the mom and pop days. The food is really good. The service is not ' bad ' it's just kind of really slow. When you get your food better make sure your drink is full because it will be a bit before you see the wait staff again. They are friendly, no complaints about that just not around much. I will frequent here more now. Pork chops are really good with their scalloped potatoes as well as the chicken strips appetizer.
Very nice atmosphere good location service wasn't 100% after she gave us a check she disappeared. And we want to get another drink but that's okay. The shrimp scampi for 20 bucks was sad, five pieces of shrimp and pasta not a whole lot of taste kind of Bland.
We went with another couple for brunch on Sunday. We all had meals made with eggs. My corn beef hash omelet was 13.50 on menu but when check came it was 15.50, we asked waitress and she informed us that they added 2 bucks onto all dishes made with eggs. Should be a notice on menu or front door. When I paid check they had little notice by chaser but who is looking for that when going into restaurant for seats. My food was good but two bucks extra is a bit much
The food and drinks are good, we came 3 times in 2 weeks, but the AC is not very cool. You get very sweaty and they need to turn the AC up.
had a great time with me and my good old buddies we kicked back like the good old days. Garden city is the best. Great owner in fantastic servers also, beer was fantastic as well
Went in at night around 7pm it was surprisingly slow but amazing service. It is decorated nicely kind of a cool little place. Good alcohol selection and beer list the waitress was very attentive and very good. We got chicken fingers and the zip city pasta. Chicken has a good seasoning on it in really nice and crispy. The zip city pasta has a great sauce on it and overall a great dish not super heavy even though it's pasta. I highly recommend giving this place a try it is pretty good.
We have been regular customers, but unfortunately the last 2-3 visits the service was poor and waiting at least 45 minutes for our food and limited to no drink refills. I’d like to go back, but at this point I’d rather not continue to be let down, despite wanting to support a local business. Food is usually good, but the price and service isn’t worth it anymore.
I've ordered the cajun chicken quesadila every month for about 4 months. At first it was the best I'd ever had. now I'm eating a gummy, half-empty pocket of completely unseasoned chicken. you guys okay?
Food was standard pub food, served hot and promptly. Atmosphere was relaxed , quiet in the afternoon on a Wednesday. The place was clean. Glasses needed to be rinsed better as there was a risdual soap flavor on two glasses I recieved. Place was clean open well lit menu was well laid out and a lot of things to choose from I had the double cheeseburger cooked to Medium it was very good burger, Very large portion, Cooked perfectly. Fries were good. Drinks selection was decent. A lunch for 4people w/ top shelf drinks= $138....Not a bad lunch thx GCC Bar and Grill!
The food is generally really good, staff is courteous, and service is good. I ordered the pretzel sticks with "beer cheese" for $10 and I am extremely disappointed with this item. There's only 3 pretzel sticks in the order that really aren't good, but the worst part is the "beer cheese". The cheese tastes like some GFS canned cheese, its absolutely horrible. I don't do reviews, but this item is a complete rip off and tastes absolutely horrible. I'm just surprised that with some many other good menu items that they would charge that much and actually serve this horrible item. I hate to say this, but Applebee's pretzel sticks and beer cheese cost less and tastes way better than what I just received for $10; so disappointed.
Garden City Cafe? More Like Garden City Pub I walked into Garden City Café, expecting a cozy little diner experience, maybe some homestyle comfort food, and instead, I was transported into the chaotic, dimly lit core of a local watering hole masquerading as a restaurant. Yes, I came on a Friday night. Yes, it was 8 p.m. But nothing—nothing—could have prepared me for the wall of noise that hit me upon entry. No music, no ambient charm, just a relentless tidal wave of voices echoing off every hard surface in the room. It’s like they scientifically engineered the acoustics to amplify every single person talking at once. The space? Tight. Every possible inch crammed with tables, ensuring that you and the stranger next to you become best friends against your will. And let’s talk about the lighting. Or, rather, the lack thereof. The menus were so hard to read between the cave-like ambiance and the thick, glossy plastic covers that reflected what little light was available that I gave up and just pulled it up on my phone. Nothing says “fine dining” like reading the menu off a backlit screen like I'm decoding ancient scrolls. Now, onto the food. My daughter and I ordered a burger meal and chicken fingers meal—classic, simple, can't-mess-it-up type stuff. And yet…somehow, they made me wait until nearly 9:30 p.m. for what was clearly frozen, out-of-the-bag food. If I’m waiting that long, I expect Gordon Ramsay himself to emerge from the kitchen with a flourish. Instead, I got adequate but forgettable food that took an absurd amount of time to reach my table. Service? Our waitress greeted us with the enthusiasm of someone serving a life sentence in a customer service prison. Immediate annoyance, minimal interaction, and a general air of "Why are you here?" Look, maybe breakfast here is great. Maybe it thrives in the morning when the crowd is more “coffee and eggs” and less "everyone in a five-mile radius shouting into the void." But if you’re expecting a classic café or a cozy diner, adjust your expectations immediately. This is a bar that happens to serve food, not the other way around. They should’ve updated the name to reflect the very clear identity shift. Final thoughts? If you're looking for a pub with loud vibes, a locals-only feel, and you don’t mind slow service, this might be your place. If you're looking for a relaxing meal where you can hear the person across from you, get your food in a reasonable amount of time, and maybe—just maybe—have a waitress who acts like she doesn’t resent your existence? Keep driving.
The food is wonderful and the service is pretty quick. The only thing I didn't like was that the servers bring your check each time they come over to you. It's quite annoying to have them keep revising it because you are not done ordering. Not a good upsell for their business.
Been a few times and it's either HIT or miss. My last visit was a HUGE miss.. Our waitress barely came to the table, my son got his food after a 10 minute wait (just fine) as we proceeded to wait another 20+ for our food with no apology, or it's coming right up. Once food did arrive it wasn't prepared correct and our waitress did not come around until the very end of our meal. Highly disappointed. My Plus visits included good food with moderate service. The renovations are lovely though!
Only giving 2 stars because I like the food. The prices are crazy. The menu online hasn't been updated in who knows how long so the prices are misleading. I ordered a wrap & fries that is listed as $10 online, I get there and it's $16 with tax. When I questioned it the girl said she could just cancel the order. How rude?! She then came out with the food and told me the menu listed online is from a third party so they can't control what it shows?? Idk just very disappointing all around. I know prices are going up everywhere but $16 for a wrap and fries is insane to me.
Nice place and staff, but food is proccessed worse then fast food unfortunately. Don't get the nachos. Fake cheese sauce and chicken tasted like it came out of microwave. Pork sliders cold. Barely luke warm.
Atmosphere is honestly the best thing about this place. Food is extremely overpriced. I paid $18 for “chicken parm” and it was noodles, chopped up tenders, sauce & cheese 🙃 My husband had pulled pork mac & cheese, it was ok. Sauce tasted weird. Kids enjoyed their food and the fact we were there during trivia night.
Food is usually very good, but not tonight. I purchased a dry baked potato ,no butter or sour cream and my ribs where even tuff to chew the meat .There wasn't even enough BBQ sauce to cover the ribs. I couldn't enjoy this meal, yes I wasted my money.
Spent 56 on two ppl for dinner last night. Service was great.. Food wasn't. Tasted like they needed to clean the grill and change the grease in there fryer...
This place was great when it was a restaurant you had to wait together in alway packed now you wait because no one come to seat you and it only a quarter filled I waited close to 15 minutes for a server to come to our table the last three times I have been there , it’s sad because Tony is a great guy but the food is high priced close to $15 for a breakfast the place is really nice but all they care about is the bar the service is the worse in the area not friendly other than Tony and Andy it’s sad because Tony has worked hard over the years but staff has driven away his business
So let me start off by saying that my girlfriend posted a review a couple of hours ago but the owner of this trash establishment deleted it. I was there this morning with my girlfriend and her siblings and one of them had ordered a buffalo chicken wrap. The cheese in the wrap was grainy and rotten and tasted horrible. When the bill had come, we had expected her meal to at least be copped and it wasn’t. The owner then has told us that “you guys have been an inconvenience since we walked in”. The last time i had been here was before they remodeled and I have never had a bad experience but since then all my friends have told me only bad things about this place. Don’t bother wasting your time coming here, you’re better off getting mcdonald’s breakfast across the street since they serve it all week and not just on weekends
Had not been to garden city cafe in around 15 years, so I was delighted that when in the neighborhood I saw it was still open. Its became clear quickly that it was under a different ownership. The inside was clean and designed as a sports bar which confused me as they are riding the coat tails of the original garden city cafe name. Bars are not cafes. This new garden city "bar and grill" had a bit of a pricey menu for the area but I was excited to get the new experience. Our waitress was polite and efficient. I ordered the pulled pork mac and cheese, my mother whom was with me ordered the pulled pork nachos. Being one of the only tables seated our food came in a good time frame, I just wish it had been edible. The mac and cheese was a little more than al dente and the cheese was a simple nacho cheese, the same nacho cheese used on the pulled pork nachos. I had mystery hard white bits in the mac part of my dish. And while that was incredibly unappetizing it was really the bbq part of the pulled pork that was the main issue. I'm not sure pure sugar isnt sweeter that the bbq sauce they completely drenched the pork in. It was so sickening sweet it made me wonder if they were trying to hide spoiled meat underneath. Now clearly as my mother ordered the pulled pork nachos we ran into the same issues with her food. I played polite as we all do when the waitress did her initial check on our table, told her we were fine and we continued to just try and make it through the dish to not waste the 30$ we spent for these two plates. I made it almost half was through and my mother made it about half as well and we gave up. It just could not be eaten. This was the one and only time in my life I actually asked for a manager in Hope's of discount off the bill. I explained I was aware we ate almost half and that I wasnt expecting the whole bill to be written off but when you have food that is so inedible, it's clear the chef who made this must have made an error in ingredients. At first the manager seemed that she understood, checked our plate to see if we really hadn't finished the food and walked away only to come back 30 seconds later explaining that the owner wasnt In and so she could not discount the food. I just want to say that if she had said " well I think maybe you guys ate to much already " or " if you had said something the first time the waitress came to the table " I would have understood. I've been a waitress before at a few different restaurants. But it's the lying for me. You cant expect me to believe that a manager has no authority to manage. I find it more likely that for those 30 seconds she walked away, the owner was there and that the owner did not authorize it. Needless to say I walked away with one to go box. A box with 20$ worth of garbage food for my dog and I will never go back. I recommend you never go to begin with.
Waitress horrible, chicken missing on my salad, had to ask f9r silverware 3x asked for separate checks at the time we ordered. Guess what. Your right it took 3x to get it right. Not a good first impression at all. On the salad front they seemed small for 17.50
This was my first time here. We just left after being ignored for 30 mins. We were seated, given our drinks and menus and that was all. We all (3) had our menus down and were ready to order and then was promptly ignored until we left. The greeter who sat us even said ‘have a nice day’ to us without questioning anything despite just seating us. All this happened around noon or before. It’s a real bummer because some of the food sounded amazing, I doubt I’ll be back though. I’ve never left a bad review before, but this has never happened before either.
Absolutely terrible!!! The worst service ever!! Sat at the bar, the “bartender” stayed hidden in the kitchen almost the entire time. The fish was frozen and old with no flavor. Shrimp and broccoli tasted like it came out of a microwave. And then when the “bartender” finally decided to come out of the kitchen, she hovered over us while we paid the bill. It wasn’t busy at all. Been there a couple of times before and wasn’t impressed. We love support local but in this case, definitely not worth supporting!! Just atrocious!!!
The happy hour menu needs to be more accurate. We ordered items from the happy hour Menu at 4:15 pm, and when we received our bill, the happy hour prices were not there. They charged us the regular prices. They told us happy hour is only in the evening. Since they did not do the right thing. We deducted the difference from the gratuity.
The food was old and had a weird taste. After waiting 20 minutes we had to go find our server and ask for the check. After we issued our complaints and she saw we hadn't eaten she went over to the owner, came back and did nothing and made us pay $50 for a gross meal we didn't even eat. This place was good but has gone down hill. Never coming back after this experience.
Good job forgetting the sauce the goes with an order of cheesebread. How hard is it?
So disappointed by our $62 🤑for 3 people Brunch experience! We had heard for years how beloved this restaurant is and decided to try it today for brunch with some dear friends. The food was subpar at best (we all requested rye toast that was neither rye, nor toasted), the biscuits were unappetizingly dense, and the omelettes lacked flavor (the only thing saving the corned beef one was the corned beef itself, the California one was bland and flavorless). Our server was both inattentive and clearly uninterested in providing anything remotely close to friendly service - never offering even the hint of a smile let alone any kind of welcoming or warm words (I was a server for years, so I know how hard the job is and typically tip above and beyond what is standard. Even when it isn't great, I try to give room for it being an off day, but this one was beyond that). Not only were our meals brought out separately many minutes apart and almost 40-mins after ordering, but she clearly did not know who got which omelette between 2 people despite their potato choices being different, and she forgot my husband's potatoes entirely. He was halfway through his omelette before she returned so we could remind her The restaurant itself is poorly managed. It appears that their sole interest is recouping their remodeling costs, as we learned when our bill arrived. We all discovered an additional $2 charge per egg dish (undisclosed by our server - apparently the small rectangle sign taped to the corner on top of the hostess sign was deemed sufficient notice), but for the first time ever, I was charged for a glass of plain club soda - also undisclosed. Additionally, the restaurant passes their merchant processing fee to customers who do not pay cash - again, undisclosed. If the food and service had been good, not even great, I might have overlooked the extra charges and not felt inclined to leave such a scathing review. Needless to say, the first thing I did when I saw some of my other friends later was tell them how awful our experience was. Perhaps their afternoon/evening cooks and meals are better, perhaps they have better servers - I will never know because me, my family, and the friends with us will never go back to GCC! If you go, ask about all their hidden fees before you order and hope your server has more pride in themselves and their job than ours did!
The restaurant was nice, food so good. As a resident of garden city I wanted to give it a try. My experience was great til the end. Waitress Genta was good til she seen I didn’t give a tip over $5 on my card. We hadn’t even packed up to leave. she ask how was the service. We said great. She said well you only gave me $5, you might as well not given anything. She was out of line. I had every intention on leaving cash. However, she put her foot in her mouth, then disappeared. I told the bar guy how I felt. I told him she don’t deserve a tip with how she acted but I left it with him. She definitely put a bad taste in my mouth. I will definitely go back. She need to go to training. Nobody told her to work there, I don’t owe her a thing. Sad part is I’m a giver and she definitely made me hate that I gave her a $1. I love to see other happy especially when they give good service. She has entitlement issues and is bad for business.
The steak was not 16 ounces like the waiter said witch I could have been fine with but then I cut into a rare steak that should have been medium rare 😔 it was very tough and chewy I could barely eat half of it .if you are looking for a melt in your mouth steak go somewhere else.everyone was very kind the waiter brought food out quick and was very professional probably won't go back through..
Garden City Cafe has slowly spiraled down. The whole atmosphere. The food is no where as good as it once ones. You’d think the money we pay for food that’s two notches up from McDonald’s down the street, would be enough to turn the air conditioning up so you’re not sitting in warm air. The shady little sign up front giving info on why the customer is getting gouged because an egg has gone up in price. I’m sorry, but there’s no egg on this planet worth three dollars. And not once was our waitress friendly enough to let us now about the price change in eggs till my wife asked why. That’s when the sign was pointed out. Cause our breakfast was $13 each and then getting a bill for 15 each because of the eggs. Garden City Café was once a really good place to go listen to some live music hang out with friends and eat great food. Change your menu to accommodate the prices or here’s a better idea, get a bigger sign.
