District 118 Kitchen and Bar

Was in town for a 2 day job. Googled local menus and this one looked great. Went here both nights I was in town. 50% because of the outstanding food, and 50% because of the outstanding bartender Chad. He made perfect menu and drink recommendations. I will come back to Newton just to go here.

We recently met friends for dinner and cocktails. Our server gave us plenty of time to talk with our friends and to choose our dinner choices. We shared garland chips. Delicious. My husband had short rib which was great . I had a chicken sandwich on ciabatta and fries. It was excellent. Our cocktails were very good as well. The chocolate dessert was just ok. Looking forward to our next visit.

Jan. 2019, District 118, new local restaurant on Needham St, in Newton. Great after-work place to meet-up with Hubby, a date, friend(s) and or co-worker(s). We patronize this establishment for an after-work dinner date. As you enter you can't help but notice the wide windows and open space of modern yet kind-of-a rustic look. A long bar section as you enter, and to the left open booths and high-top tables. Greeted by Michael asking if we had reservations, which we did through Open Tables. Michael led us to our booth, quite comfortable, giving us menus & telling us Phil, will be our server. As we looked over our menus Phil walked over with a large craft of cold water without ice, introducing himself and saying that all the foods here are made from scratch in house, there were many choices. We began with a delicious hummus dip with some veggies and pita strips. Next came side salad and a bowl of chili. Another server Robert, came by our table to assist Phil and brought us the very tasty beef burger and a good portion of lobster mac and cheese, not lacking in cheese or in fresh claws-n-knuckle pieces of lobster. The date night was a delicious success, as the food met our every expectation, service was quite good, and both Phil and Robert were talkative and helpful throughout the evening. We will most definitely come back again, and we will bring friends next time. This seems like a great place to come have a couple of cocktails and eat really good food.

We have had several company dinners at District 118, and they are always very accommodating, with attentive staff, great food and a large drink selection. At our recent dinner after a long day of training, they went above and beyond - creating a customized menu for us, personalizing it with our logo, and making our group feel welcome and taken care of, even during a busy evening where the place was packed. We will certainly be back!

Dinner at District 118 was wonderful! The atmosphere was nice, and the food and drinks were delicious. Would definitely recommend, and hope to return soon!

Wide variety of food all with a unique flavor. Great service and attention to detail. Everything we had was delicious. Would definitely go back!

Fantastic selection of foods for kids and adults. The scallops were terrific,as was the calamari with cauliflower. My daughter loved the Mac n cheese. They also have a great beer selection. The atmosphere is also inviting and contemporary.

Really liking this place. The decor is I guess modern industrial. Very clean looking. Let's start with service first... The waiter we had was phenomenal. Super friendly, personable, on point with suggestions. The food was very good. Started with the wings...a bit too charred for me but others loved it. Reminds me of the Tuscan wings from Bertucci's (hey man, don't knock it till you try it). Around the table, we got a burger with side of sweet potato fries, lobster Mac and cheese, steak salad, braised short ribs, and gnocchi. The gnocchi on the menu is lamb but I asked for a different meat if possible. The waiter checked and said he can do short ribs...I was ecstatic. I enjoyed my dish a lot... Flavorful, good ratio of meat to gnocchi, tender. Burger was solid with fried onions on top, bacon, jalapeno marmalade (we got it on the side) and fries were crunchy on outside, soft on inside. Lobster mac and cheese was the most popular at our table... salty (good), not too overloaded with cheese, good chunks of lobster meat. Steak salad was good as well...steak was perfectly medium rare as asked. The eggs on there... Thinking about it got my saliva going. PERFECT... Soft but not runny. Would enhance any savory dish. Braised short ribs was the least favorite at the table but I still enjoyed it. The sauce was a bit too tangy for some. The plate had 2 chunks of tender meat which required no knife. The mash potato was creamy and paired well with the saucy meat. Brussel sprouts we're good too... Luckily we ordered a side of it as well so plenty too share. The balsamic honey or whatever sauce cuts the bitterness. Desserts...we ordered the flourless chocolate torta and cheesecake... The waiter insisted we get the carrot cake, so much that he gave it to us on the house. The chocolate cake was a small sliver and cheesecake was reasonable. The carrot cake was the winner... It was big, moist, fluffy. This is coming from someone who would never order carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting was delicious. The other cakes were just alright. All in all, this whole thing was a good experience. I would definitely come back.

So, so, so good. Got the mac and cheese, kids Mac and cheese and a district 118 burger. Fantastic. Got the tiramisu for dessert and while the serving size was small, it was very good and totally worth it.

This place is great. The staff are super friendly, the food was great. They have a great selection of beer and other drinks. I'll definitely stop back when I'm in the area.

I tried the mushroom quinoa burger and it was excellent! I’m not vegetarian and was hesitant at first, but I definitely didn’t regret it. Cool vibes overall and friendly staff.

Had brunch with my parents and sister. Overall the food was very good and the service was fantastic.

Best calamari we have had. Great salads and love the veggie burgers. We will be back. Friendly atmosphere. Good wine.

visited today lunch time. excellent and more than sufficient food. I wondered why we are the only customers during the lunch time today, 11:30am - 1:30pm. Would someone explain why it happened.

It was a welcoming place,great ambiance, friendly staff and good service.I ate chicken wings in one visit and a chicken sandwich (Dirty Bird) on another visit and the other foods coming to the table were all really delicious food.Im looking forward to go back for delicious food.

My family and I decided to go here when we arrived to the area for our weekend get away. The menu looked appetizing. First off being greeted by Michael our waiter was a pleasure. He has such a great personality. The food we ordered came out quickly and all the dishes tasted amazing. I also liked that they carry a lot of local beers. We ended our meal with some desserts and they were just as good. Overall a great place. Give it a try.

Food presentation and service was excellent. Our waitress particularly was fantastic. Attentive with a smile. My only complaint was that our Burrata salad was a bland. Just needed a sprinkle of salt and pepper which were not on the table. Main courses were delicious though. The atmosphere was fine but nothing really grabbed me to give that 5 stars.

Food was stellar. I had the short rib mac & cheese for main dish. Very cheesy and. Wholesome. The chips:guacamole were also amazing. Cold guacamole very fresh. Chips were thick and hearty. Not flimsy.....desert was good. I had Carrot Cake. Although it wasn't the best I've ever had. It was still very very good. I believe next time I'm in. I'm gonna go with cheesecake. Service was absolutely second to none. Very attentive from the moment I stepped into the door to the very last bite taken. I was sat super quick, ordered super quick. And before I knew it my appetizer was delivered and ready to chow down on. Booths were very comfy with plenty of room. Table height and lighting was great as well. Relaxing place.

Food was absolutely delicious. My friend and I each had the quinoa mushroom burger. It was the best I ever had! Our waitress Belle was so nice and really friendly. She got the order perfectly. She even came back a few time to check on us. We asked her if we could have one drink and split it. She can back with two glasses and the drink was split perfectly. I give Belle and District 118 the highest rating

Our son had a football game in Newton, and we needed to find a place to eat following the game. I remembered passing District 118 on our way and I'm glad we gave it a try. Cool atmosphere, great beer list and lots of interesting dinner options. My wife got the prosciutto Flatbread. The toppings were good but the flatbread had a weird texture. Tasted better the next day with the flatbread a bit crispier. I had the Yard Bird and Brie sandwich, and it was amazing! Such interesting ingredients(Cajun Chicken, Brie, Fig Jam, Bacon and Arugula). All worked so well together, each taste coming through with each bite. Hoping we have more games in Newton so we can go vmback and try some of the other options. Worth checking out!

I can’t say enough good things about 118 District! We came here as a family and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy but lively, and the music added such a great vibe. Bella took amazing care of us , honestly one of the best servers we’ve ever had! You can tell she really enjoys what she does. I wanted to post some photos, but everything looked so good that I ended up eating it all before I could take any! 😄 Highly recommend coming here for great food, wonderful service, and amazing vibes!

We hosted a business lunch here for 10 people and it was great! The food and service, especially Rob, were excellent. We would happily come back.

The lunch was good! Not sure rating burgers at five stars i proper, but it was i was not that hungry. nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. We ate a simple bacon burger and fish and chip both were delicious. Had a nice beer and a margarita. Left full and content. Would go back.

Stopped in for lunch and the service and food was great. We had the wings and burger. My kid a wing snob and said these are awesome.

Came here to celebrate my mom's birthday. Patio is very nice. We only saw a bit of the inside but it also looked very nice. Was pretty empty even though it was 9pm on a Saturday. Waitress was extremely nice and personable. I ordered the seafood chowder and the others in my party ordered the steak and cheese egg rolls. Both were good. For our entrees we ordered Mac & cheese, lamb gnocchi, their burger and the duck breast with mushroom risotto. I thought my lamb gnocchi was very flavorful with a nice robust tomato sauce. My mom thought the duck breast was over done but that the mushroom risotto was to die for. The burger and mac and cheese were said to be just ok. We also ordered dessert. Carrot cake, cheese cake and the lava cake. All very good. Our only issue was we ordered 3 drinks when we sat down. We didn't receive those drinks until right before our entrees came out. There was no explanation during that long period of time just lots of apologies when the drinks finally made their way to us. Again the waitress was very nice and removed a dessert to make up for the super late drinks.

Food was delicious. I ordered the sweet potato fries, a burrata with a side of grilled asparagus. Absolutely delicious! I paired it with a La Marca Spumante

Extensive menu. The Ahi Nachos could have been described better.

Good food in a modern setting with quality ingredients. They have a good selection of local beers and the portions are good sized for the price. Service was attentive and friendly. A good place with for dinner with friends.

Nice sports bar atmosphere. Good quality food. Tasty wings. Good salads and sandwiches. Good lobster Mac and cheese. The salmon was ok a bit over salted. Key lime pie was be good and the flourless chocolate cake. Also nice old fashion.

It was fine for a quick drink. I didn't eat food there, so cannot comment on that.

Nice little hidden gem on busy Needham St. The setup is perfect for watching sports. Fantastic beer and whiskey offerings. Food is top notch. Burgers are made to order and fresh. I just wish they did not take the spicy shrimp appetizer off the menu….it was my favorite offering.

Delicious Chilean Sea Bass. Sauce was excellent. Did not like the bruschetta. Not your standard take on it and it didn't work for me. Old fashioned was good tasting and generously sized. I was lucky with the parking but it looks like it could be difficult as it's a small lot.

Huge letdown. Steep prices for mediocre food. Zucchini chips were bland and our meals were average. Many better options around.

Drinks are fantastic! Did not order food today, but last time I came it was excellent. I hate to be a jerk by saying this, but the first bartender serving me was kind of stiff, felt like I was talking to a wall and had no energy to him at all. The other bartender named Navon (sorry if I botched the spelling), was really cool though and made good conversation. Definitely will be back at some point for the beverages as they are very good. However, service wasn’t that good to be honest. Being frank, I kind of felt uncomfortable at the bar.

I was highly disappointed that I spent $38 on scallops and risotto and the scallops were definitely frozen and the risotto had no flavor and was not creamy, so basically I was eating rice. I felt very deceived ordering this dish. I suppose I should have known better ordering seafood from this type of establishment. Service was very slow, it took my husband 30 minutes to get his tomato soup which was pipping hot when he got it and the bits of sprinkled cheese on top were not fully melted. I’m not sure how that happens but he had to wait for it to cool down and by that time our meals had arrived. I will say the drinks were well crafted.

Don’t know if it was an off day but the whole experience was lacking. $20 for a grilled cheese that was dry, not at all like the pictures online, the bread was dry. They seemed severely understaffed. Long wait to be served, 35 minute wait for a burger and a grilled cheese. Wasn’t too impressed, the price v what we got was off.

One half of the saddest sandwich I’ve ever seen. $20 for a few slices of meat. This place sucks.

My server acknowledged other guests many times while I was there. I am asked a question and she never. Came back to give me an answer. I observed her go to other tables multiple times. Never to me . My daughter is a Manager at a high end fhop house. This is the n acceptable. I liv across the street and come in OF for the delicious wings. I will be back.
