Great shows. The staff is the best. You should watch the shows coming up and just go for drinks. A very good example of Oakland!
Always a good time and vibe each time I visit. Every night theres something different, so theres something for everyone. Im surprised how many people show up on a Monday night. Something is being done right for that to happen. I enjoyed learning that they have things hanging up that date wayyyy back on history about the building which could have easily just thrown away. Definitely a spot worth checking out and keep returning too.
They've recently expanded their menu and its great. Now starline is complete with a relaxing atmosphere, nice drinks, alcoholic slushies and a full menu ranging from bites to meals. It's my go to bar in oakland.
I’m so overjoyed Starline isn’t dead. This is my favorite place for cocktails, music, karaoke, and cultural events in the whole Bay Area! So much love for this place and the people behind it. ♥️
Great spot for speciality cocktails. Light fare, carnivorous-leaning menu. Love the dance/event space upstairs, staff is always friendly and attentive.
Love the vibe, scene, patrons and bar staff. Great for a date or just grabbing drinks and a bite with friends. Be it hh or late night dancing, this place hits for everyone. Very lgbtqi friendly!
This place is cool and so are the people. Does this still exist in the Bay Area? It’s like creative people who make art and like good music who didn’t get evicted yet. I thought this crowd moved to Portland years ago.
Bring your earplugs. We saw a couple of great bands. If you want to escape, there is a bar downstairs. Intimate setting with booths lining a wall. Oldest bar in Oakland from the 1890's.
Went here for a wedding reception/dance party. Top floor was rented out. Had a great time and bartending staff were friendly and on point. Nice ambiance.
Came here for the Taylor Swift party event which was held on the 2nd floor. It was a great environment. The first floor area looked great as well. Surrounding area is not the best.
One of a kind, Oakland Artist gem sanctuary. Great building history and incredibly diverse crowd. Serves food till midnight and books fabulous events and shows. Experience the Starline ASAP XO
If you're down to dance this is a great spot. There is a main bar when you walk in. To dance go to the back of the bar and turn right, there is a whole other half of the place. There is also an upstairs that hosts dance parties.
Great vibes with a surprisingly good food menu. Get here around dinner time, and avoid the inevitable line out the door. Have had great service everytime.
Great food, great ambiance and awesome staff! They have interesting events and a cool Tuesday jazz night. Food is always super fresh! And the venue is beautiful!
Great concert spot. Decent beer selection, and there’s food downstairs. Pretty good sound quality and a chill crowd.
Great place. It's nice dim lighting, has great cocktails and they have some cool events on stage all the time.
Funky place, trendy bar scene. Younger crowd. Small plates were delicious. Staff was friendly. Little cold upstairs bring a jacket.
Always impressed how they alway approaching you to ask if you've been served. You never wait more than a few mins at the bar to be helped, such a change from most bars where bartenders act like they're doing you a favor :-( Nice diverse crowd, food presentation is enjoyable, the radish sprouts are a nice touch. The fish and chips was kind of poor value at $18 for 2 pieces, and the pea puree was a bit too sweet. But the venue makes up for it; the vibe is nice, the music is always head-bobbin.
Delightedly surprised by the high quality cocktails and food served downstairs when we arrived early for a show. The braised pork with polenta and salsa verde was outstanding. Lighting and sound upstairs was also quite good. I look forward to coming back!
This is a cool hang out spot with a nice drink selection and venues for artist to perform. I always have a great time here with friends. I frequent this bar often and would recommend it to anyone in the area. I also think they serve food so that’s also a big plus!
An Oakland must. They have a free comedy night on Monday that never disappoints. The atmosphere, drinks and food are all great. The bartenders are always amazing. Shout out to Nicole for always taking care of us!
Very hipster bar with strong mixed drinks and multiple rooms for drinking & chatting and dancing. The crowd is a mix of hipsters and Oakland natives. The music is very danceable 70s-90s style club mixes. A good spot all-around.
Starline is a great place for drinks and dancing. They have so many events and various musical acts. There are various different rooms that are open for dancing and shows. They have some seating in the main room, but it is definitely more of a place to move and dance.
Just dug into Brussels sprouts yams and brown butter - so delicious!!! The chicken sando also has some wonderful garnishes and is perfectly cooked. Plus the pickles are the perfect foil to the sweet yams. The food here is great! I'll be back.
Easy to get to from 19th St BART. Downstairs is a big bar with good, greasy bar food (try the onion rings!). Upstairs is an actual ball room, with a bar, a kitchen, and booths for seating. I've been there for a party and for a show, and both set-ups were great. See a show or host one!
The sound system upstairs is so good, the lighting system was seriously great as well. The people working the bar and the door had a lot of peace to give, it was very inviting and an overall wonderful experience.
Been to many shows here, always had a good time. Friendly, smooth operation. Only been to shows in crystal cavern post covid. Was nice to be back and I’m glad Starline survived. Cheers!!
Awesome boozy cocktails and good eats. Boyfriend had the best fried chicken if recent memory. I had the boozy slushee and Brussels sprouts. 10/10 would get a delicious buzz here again
Such a great venue - excellent drinks, fun mixed crowd, good food, friendly staff (even on busy nights). They also have tons of bike parking. Overall a great place for a night out.
YAS! There are 3 different rooms and it attracts tons of people. Talk about diversity and happy times. The ballroom is great for any concert, and the food is YUMYUM( if you are able to get there before the kitchen closes). The 3rd room (downstairs) is where you will find local Bay Area artist. So check it sometime - I promise you will have a blast.
I always have a good time at Starline! The drink with the cannabis terpenes in my favorite but I can't remember the name at this moment. Good music, cool people, & bartenders who aren't too pretentious. This place is a must when im with friends on Telegraph. I have yet to hang out upstairs but I will soon enough.
Go when there is a featured comedy nite. Great place. The music is always good. Staff is friendly and accommodating. An amazing night out.
Cool little spot in a kind of strange area near freeway overpasses. Good selection of spirits and beers. I'm usually there for Monday night free comedy and food pop-up which is always a great time.
Yep, this place is awesome. Can’t go too often because it’s a bit too expensive for me, but the food and drinks are great. The bartenders are friendly and entertaining.
I experienced 2 wonderful new things here. Firstly, this venue is beautiful and unique. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the entire place was clean including the bathrooms, and I appreciated the building itself. I'm pretty sure the old oak floors improved my dancing skills. Booth seating was great for conversations, and the lighting complimented the cool vibes. Equally important, I discovered the local band The Humidors! They were super in-sync, polished, and entertaining. Musically, I'd describe them as awesome. Others may define them as funky rocky fun.
Bartenders are great! Very friendly and helpful. Upstairs can be a little cramped for a larger performer but also means it's more intimate for a music fan. Downstairs is a great little bar with some good eats! At about a regular price.
Babyyyy I loveee this place. Perfect to watch the games. And I was sold at $1 wings. AND THEYRE GOOD! Cant wait to come back
Had breakfast and cocktails downstairs; delicious food and innovative cocktail menu. The bartender was really lovely and service was great.. my daughter and I, and friends, were there to attend an event upstairs for THE TAKE-OFF ART. Perfect venue, with booths, stage and bar. Starline Social Club is a definite yes for breakfast and drinks... ANYTIME
Such a cool venue. Shows are held upstairs with a separate entrance from the restaurant. The venue is fairly roomy and there’s plenty of space to walk around even during a sold out show. There’s a handful of booths in the back and some standing tables for drinks. I really appreciated how the staff came by every hour to collect glasses. It kept the place nice and clean even toward the end of the show. No on site parking, so you’ll have to street park or go to a nearby lot. I came about 30 min before our 8pm show and we managed to snag a spot on the street just around the corner.
The show was excellent (Kyle Mooney) and security was friendly. Service at the bar was not good and we ended up bailing after waiting to order drinks for 15 minutes. We'll be back on a slower night though, as the place seemed cool and the show made up for everything.
Them lemon pepper wings are, best I ever had! Tangy, juicy, and full of flavor
This is an amazing place if you want a fantastic cocktail. You're going to wait a bit but watching them put together your drink is worth it, it's super interesting. Good spot for a couple friends but it will definitely be busy so anticipate that!
We love this place. Super drinks that we drink were amaze balls. Wet went on a friday night and it was crowded, so be patient. We didn't eat dinner but saw their menu which looked really tasty and heard people talk about it. We are definitely coming back again. I would definitely recommend this place. Yes its super gentrified but that's Oakland now. You can Either accept it or not. I'm in!!
I was travelling and got into town late and so was looking for a place with food and drinks open late. Based off a quick Google search, Starline Social Club was closest and their kitchen was open till 12am so off I went. I had some kind of shrimp salad on toast on the bartender's recommendation and it was excellent and pretty filling for a smaller portion, just as she noted. Bartenders and regulars are friendly and I wound up staying a while. It was karaoke night since it was a Sunday and that was pretty entertaining too. I thought the place might be one of those "too cool for school" places walking in, but it's a laid-back place and I had a good time and would come back if I'm ever in Oakland or SF in the future.
Great bartenders and easy laid back vibe! I love the food like the fish and chips and the happy hour onion rings are superb. The drink menu has a number of interesting drinks with complex flavors without being pretentious.
Loved this place. Drink service could've been a little faster, but they were slammed. The upstairs dancing area is super fun, but they should work on the ventilation a little to make it more breathable. I will definitely go back.
Starline is the first bar that taught me about how complex and layered a drink can be. I ordered one called the "camp fire". I am not a pretentious sommelier. My palette ranges from bad to good. But this drink demanded more from me. It was sweet, sour, layered with spicy and smoky elements. I am not overstating when I say that this was the most delicious drink I've had in my life. The bar has a gentrified aesthetic, with a dark ambiance, lit with exposed bulbs. The staff are hipster. The floor is hardwood and the ceiling is vaulted. Overall a very pleasant place to spend an evening, with live music occurring on all sides (above, and in the adjacent room). This bar being an old institution of Oakland is actually the clearest representation of the new Oakland order. Only issue I have is the number of restrooms. A bar which gets as crowded as Starline should have more than two restrooms!
Starline was fun!!! Went to the Milk and Cookies show and had a blast. Not sure how they justify $10 wells, but I guess people must be ordering them. I ended up getting Negronis since they were only 2 bucks more and made with higher quality spirits. I've heard the food is good too, but I haven't eaten there yet. Definitely want to try it.
My review is for the upstairs dance floor. Easily my favorite place to dance in Oakland. No Se' First Fridays are my favorite. Music is a mash up but it is always done so well. The venue reminds me of a middle school gymnasium. Drinks are blah compared to downstairs but don't let that get you down. There's always an amazing turnout and unlike some other dance venues, everyone actually is dancing here. Not just standing on the wall judging. Ugh, can't wait to go back!
Lit!!! This is a place for everyone. There's everything for everyone. Four different spaces with different genres of music, really good music. The bar tenders are great and the cocktails are well done. If you're looking for conversation, the main area is good. If you're looking for chill music, the dancefloor on the ground floor is good. If you're looking to dance and let loose, the first floor is awesome.
Love coming to this spot for drinks and a show! We saw Mz Neon and Blood Red Shoes kick of onto a tour here. They had it in the small room right of the bar and it was intimate. and perfect.
Have been here a couple weekend nights for drinks and dancing. Awesome, unpretentious vibe. Anyone can have a great time here, whether you're looking to dance, listen to some live music, or just enjoy a drink. Ballroom reminds me of a high school dance floor, except with alcohol and without the awkwardness.
Best lemon pepper, wings, and best pork belly over mashed potatoes in Oakland. Great service.
Acapella! If you haven’t been… Go! This place just opened about five months ago and no doubt that this will be a happening spot in Oakland for years to come. I went to check it out today and was Met by Umar (not Omar). I believe he was the manager. He took his time to show me around and introduced me to some of the Of the staff, which greeted me as an invited guest. I went there on Thursday night, when they have a free comedy show. And the comedians had us all laughing throughout the night. I also met Chef Michael, who is from East Oakland and enjoyed his Version of jerk, chicken with plantains and other Goodies. If you’re looking for a new in different spot in Oakland, make sure you check this place out… You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to return with friends and family.
Food until 1am?! Beautiful and KIND servers?! I'm hooked - I loved Starline but my experience here has been 10/10! Every bartender has been kind and attentive without me even having to ask. I will recommend to everyone I know - pull up yall!!
A New Favorite Spot Acapella nails the vibe—dark, green, and mysterious, with R&B that sets the perfect tone. Umar took amazing care of us and made an insanely good filthy martini. Sadie was kind and receptive (even when we paused mid-order to catch up—thank you!). Don’t be put off by the area—there’s a bouncer at the door, and it’s totally safe and welcoming inside. Cocktails are shockingly affordable for how polished the space feels. We’re especially excited for the upstairs concert venue to open soon. Acapella is already a standout—Skyline doesn’t compare.
Watched the doom metal band Windhand perform here. A very small venue so a great place for a fantastic view of the show. No coat check available so do not bring a lot of stuff. Ticket cost $25 so it was a very excellent value. The staff at the club were friendly and very helpful answering a couple of questions I had. Overall excellent experience at Starline Social Club
What a gosh darn delight. Perfect place for a group meet up, hang sesh with an old friend, or to sidle up to the bar alone. The bartenders are exactly what you imagine you want out of a local joint. Reality or not, I feel like I left with two new friends and people who will know how I like my drink when I head back.
Good spot to grab a drink and hang out with friends and strangers. The bar has a nice curve to it, so you can people watch for days. The crowd here is eclectic and interesting, and the cocktails pack a punch. I’ve been here a few times to dance, but the best memories (at least the ones most easily recollected) happen downstairs at the bar.
Tough to get in on first Fridays, drinks are $10 each. There's an upstairs VIP room that is more dance friendly, and another room thats more electronic music. Definitely is a social club
Awesome space with great sports selection. Bartenders were hit and miss.. One amazing and one kinda more hipster then thou. Will definitely check out again.
Really nice place to relax and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine. The food is also quite good. Feels more "clubby" on the weekends . This can be fun if you're in the mood for it.
Great atmosphere, music was great, the location of the dance floor was weird and small. Food looked and smelt amazing, we will definitely go back for dinner. I'm still thinking about those onion rings I wish I would have gotten them
For some reason, acapella has captured the reviews from starline social club. Dont apply any reviews before 2025, this now is a different place. Taking off two stars for deception until i try it.
Great drinks and food. Very unique and cool place. Acoustics aren't the best and can be a bit noisy. Overall I highly suggest this place.
As I understand, this is relatively new venue. The bar downstairs is nicely designed, and the clientele seemed young and hip. The music venue upstairs was very reminiscent of a middle school gym, but it had many quaint touches that more than made up for that fact.
The Starline Social club is a little slice of history in Oakland. The aged interiors add to the allure. Great menu and pretty nice live music. Tuesday nights is Swing dancing night, organized by the Breakaway, and that is truly a fun way to beat the Tuesday Blues. When it gets crowded, it can get hard to get a bartender's attention. I have had to wait a bit for a beverage. But the staff are always very friendly and nice when they come to you. A great selection of bottled beers, including the Grand Cru Rodenbach. It's a great spot to visit, and chill out.
I'm changing my review from one star to four, because the owner did respond to me; I contacted the Starline via the email address listed on their website. He went out of his way to make sure that all my concerns were addressed. My original review is below, for reference. First time there. There was a total of six of us there. Four people ordered the Funky Cold Medena, and did not like it. The bitters had taken over the drink. We sent all four of them back. The server later informed me that he was only able to take two of the four cocktails off of our tab, and did not explain any further. I asked him about it later on, after having to flag him down, and he stated that he was doing us a favor, that "cocktail bars don't take drinks off the tabs just because the customer doesn't like them". Uh, since when? I asked to see the manager. The manager never came to the table. The rest of the evening, we had to wave down our waiter, who was busy dancing around in the foyer of the cocktail bar, in order to get another round of drinks and our tab. I would rather spend my money elsewhere, than within walking distance of my house, and be treated with dignity, than as if the server is doing me a favor by gracing me with a drink designed by a mixologist and the implication that I am not sophisticated enough to enjoy it, but have to pay for it anyway.
Some great acts come through, but the sound has been off at the shows I've been to. Recently saw the Dirty Projectors and there were quite a few issues. UPDATE: Raising this review to 4 stars because of the quick response from the owner! Thanks much!
It's casual. It's fun. Great drinks. Great atmosphere. Really chill to hang out if you're looking for a low key lounge/bar kind of place.
Was really looking forward to the DJ tonight but there wasn't much happening early on in the day. 9-10pm with the DJ starting at 9. I'm thinking maybe the vibe is a bit better later on especially with all of the positive reviews on here. The staff was really nice. The drinks we got (2 speciality cocktails) were honestly really bad but the overall feel of the place was good- thinking it was just bad timing.
Great place. In love with the diversity of people and variety of atmosphere. Getting a drink is surprisingly efficient for how busy they get. Security is always super helpful and professional. You guys outta give that guy Luco a raise if you haven’t already !
This place is new and is figuring out their menu still. The food was good but it felt as though it was trying to be better than what it actually was. I look forward to seeing this place blossom. The drinks were great and the people were wonderful.
I really liked this place. It has a nice ambiance and fairly good pub food. What I enjoyed most were the craft cocktails they offered. My favorite turned out to be Mr. Meeseeks. I liked it not only for being delicious but also such a beautiful looking drink. I will definitely be returning soon and introducing friends to this great place!
Always crowded on the weekends. There are booths where you can sit and a really long bar. There are also 2 more rooms that sometimes have other events taking place. Fun but crowded
I can see this place being really fun. However it was a very crowded experience when I went. The upstairs played music that was alright band not really to my tasting. Downstairs really fun they really great music but again very hot very sweaty and very crowded so kind of put a damper on my experience.
Okay. Nive interior. Shameful treatment of the musicians with the squeakiest swing door and heaps of employees and patrons going in and out. Pricey beers, but beautiful.ambiance. cozy, snug, though not too divey.
This review is for the music performance space upstairs only. The acoustics are off, but the space is nice and small, basically square, with booths along the back wall. Easy place to get in and out of, friendly staff, fun crowd.
Sound system, bands and stage were good but it took a long time to get drinks. Need a line just for beer on crowded nights. Wanted to get two beers so I wouldn't have to wait in line again but they will only sell you one at a time. Decided to not get more beer after the first one.
They don't serve food. Located in a very sketchy area that feels incredibly unsafe. No food options nearby besides a Taco Bell that closes at 7pm unless you want to use the drive thru and be accosted by people for money while you wait for your food. Doors were supposed to open at 7 but they made us wait outside past that time and when they finally opened the doors the guy said "I guess you can come in...". Interior was quite underwhelming. We won't be back.
Original msg below. In response to computers crashing, We had already heard that it was last call a couple minutes before because of that. No one cared about drinks, people just wanted to keep dancing. The DJs computer hadn’t crashed, but they still shut off the music and made everyone leave. Went to the “Sounds of Africa” party, everyone was dancing and having a great time. This party happens ONCE in a while. People wait for this party! It’s a rare safe place for the remaining Bay Area POCs to come dance together to our music. Without any explanation they shut it down at 1:15 but was supposed to end at 2. I had paid to get in after arriving from a gig at 12:15. Everyone was upset. The folks I saw the DJ/promoter arguing with looked like the same type of people that took over the bars in the mission. Don’t make Oakland like SF, let us keep the few Oaklandish Afro events representing our culture and community.
Wednesday night extremely rude disrespectful bartender disaster. Really expected better at least decent service like the positive experience the past night with the other bartender Crystal. She was great. But this one on Wednesday Bartender was drinking shots back to back drunk, sniffing drinks she was serving like she wanted that also, giving me an attitude when she broke a glass and shards were every where near my drink and I kindly asked her to make another. She thought that was unnecessary but it wasn’t cuz she was intoxicated and I was seeing all the debris all around the drink. She slammed all the cups around and mouthed off like I was inconveniencing her. This is after she took at least 12 minutes to acknowledge me to start my drink. I explained if I was making a drink for someone I wouldn’t do that like that. She huffed and puffed and was irate and angry. Then she was telling other patrons I was “ trippin “ when I was out front when she was explaining that she was cleaning area up with the glass. Not good at all. This type of behavior in a service setting or any is unacceptable
I will never attend this place again ...The staff overcharged my card three times and on top that the charges are still pending. They have not attempted to repayment, there was little to no remorse about this incident . The bar owner or Person in Charge had the audacity to ask me to pay additional 17 dollars when my card been charged already 160 dollars .. I'm very disappointed as this was our first time at this new establishment I would never trust to then to keep and open tab ..I hoping they replace my payment soon I need All my monies back...sad 😭
