Chef Yu's is a popular spot for Korean-Chinese cuisine, especially Jjajangmyeon and Jjamppong. Customers rave about the large portions, reasonable prices, and flavorful dishes. Some find parking difficult and the sweet and sour pork inconsistent.

Still our favorite for this kind of food. There are more choices these days closer to us but when we have time we come here from across the bay. A native Korean normally would order Gan Jajjang because the sauce is prepared upon ordering. If you're used to modern (ie sweeter) fast college versions of this then your taste buds will be off and not know what it's supposed to taste like.
If you are in Oakland you have to check this place out! Its in the Temescal neighborhood so there is ample parking near by. The serving staff is prompt and friendly. They always greet customers with a smile and are helpful with suggestions. The menu is extensive but not expensive. I always order the Bimbimbop. They bring all sorts od wonderfulness to add. They have cocktails too!
Za Zang Myeon: 5/5 They make the flour based noodles in house! Fried Dumplings: 6/5 100% you need to get these. Light and crispy on the outside, juicy pork on the inside. Really friendly. Customer Service: 5/5 Only bad thing is no free refills on diet coke since it's by the can. I can't find it in my soul to subtract a star because the food is just. that. good. Pro Tip: If you cant find parking, there's a lot behind Blackwater Station on 49th.
I LOVE this restaurant. My favorites that are perfect and flavorful and delicious: Zazang Myun (jajangmyeon) Zampon (jjamppong) Tang Sue Yuk Ganpoong Shrimp Over the years we’ve eaten at many different Korean places but this restaurant is special and in my opinion, one of the best. It’s for sure a hole in the wall, there’s nothing fancy about it. There is one lady running front of the house and and one guy cooking in the kitchen (I think) and they are magical. I just ate there yesterday and I want to go back again today. And it must be said that their noodles are chewy and yummy. The broth in the jjamppong is so flavorful and spicy I could drink a bowl of it alone every day. Also, when you walk in, greet the lady who runs the place (she is a friggin boss) in Korean. She always greets everyone in Korean and it’s just nice to reply back to her even if you don’t know anything other than Annyeonghaseyo!
Authentic 짜장면 (black bean noodle). The black bean sauce has some sweetness to it and the noodles are hand pulled. Honestly nothing better than some hand pulled noodles. Their 짬뽕 is also good. If you go here, I do recommend getting the 깐풍기 (spicy fried chicken) or at least the 탕수육 (Tangsuyuk - crispy fried pork).
home style family run korean-chinese cuisine with hearty portions, the spicy seafood noodle soup is pure comfort, the jjampong shrimp is fried in a perfect crispy batter with a sweet spicy sauce that keeps me coming back every few months once the craving hits. and of course jajang black bean noodles are their mainstay, for any chinese or koreans growing up this was our mac and cheese or spaghetti with tomato sauce, pure nostalgia!
Our South Korean friend took us here for some truly authentic Korean dishes (her opinion) even though the place is marketed as Chinese and some dishes are familiar from many Mandarin restaurant menus. But the dishes we ordered (Zazang myun, Tang sue yuk, and Zampong) were fantastic and nothing like we had enjoyed before! Delicious! We will be back.
This is Korean style Chinese food. The menu would look as if there are not many items on it like a normal Chinese restaurant but it's because it specializes in ZaZang Mien. There are many versions of this but Chef Yu's is pretty high on my list. All the other dishes is typical dishes that would go with the noodles. Enjoy.
Our #1 go to place in Oakland. Chef Yu’s my favorite Korean-Chinese restaurant in the US. Their sweet and sour pork (Tangsuyuk) is super tasty. I love this place. If anyone who’s visiting the East Bay needs a recommendation on food, I always pick this one first. Quite affordable, quick and most importantly, delicious.
This is the best hole in the wall jjajangmyun place! They have really good fried pork as well. No place compares to this place when it comes to flavor.
One of the best Korean style Chinese foods. Atmosphere around restaurant is somewhat awkward, though. Even though I really like foods , here. Highly recommend it.
Everything we ordered was delicious! Crab cheese puff, tang sue yuk, Mongolian beef, zazang myun, zampong - total 93 including tips
I've walked past this place countless times, and finally I stopped in yesterday for lunch with a friend. What a find! The food is simply incredible, and the portions are huge. I would recommend coming to eat with a group in order to enjoy this place family style. There was so much I wanted to try but, alas, only so much I could comfortably eat. For my fellow vegetarians: The japchae plate with a side of soup is to die for, and don't pass up the hot braised soft tofu (the pickled vegetables on the side really elevate the experience, too).
Once again another quality food establishment that delivers on a consistent basis. I've been going here for 7 years and never have been disappointed. Now mind you there are other restaurants in close proximity that you can experience. But Chef Yu and his crew just do what they do and the food is spectacular. If you're in the area of 51st and telegraph and have develop a taste for quality Chinese food, baby just go there and give it a try, you don't even have to tell them that I sent you!! The food is just damn good, you'll see your taste buds will tell you what I'm talking about
Got to go. Yummy Mongolian beef and veggie chow mein!
Clientele was all Korean during my late Sunday lunch here; always a good sign. Yuyu is not a “Chinese” restaurant in the American sense but is a “Korean-Chinese” joint. This style of food was developed by Chinese immigrants from Shandong to Korea and is highly popular in Korean communities across the world. There aren’t many Korean-Chinese places in the bay that are good but this is one of them. Both the classics ganjjajang and tang su yuk were excellent. The meat in the ganjjajang was SO tender and the tank su yuk was fried perfectly.
Literally the best place to get Korean style Black bean noodles (aka. Jjajangmyun) and Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup (aka. Jjampong) in Oakland!
Are you craving for some authentic Korean style Jjajangmyeon and Jjambbong? Then look no further, this place has got it down. Amazing food (they def use MSG like they're supposed to), great portions, and cheap! I ordered Jjam-jjamyeon which is like the half and half deal, and it was bomb. Definitely coming back if I'm in Oakland anytime soon.
This no-frills, Chinese-Korean, handmade noodle house has been serving the East Bay Korean community for decades. And the taste truly owns up to its namesake. The gan zazang (간짜장) ranks among the best globally, with a light smokiness that makes the sauce all the more satisfying. The jjamppong (짬뽕) broth, while full in flavor, wasn’t my favorite. The kkan-pung shrimp (깐풍새우) perfectly crispy, yet saucy, but the shrimp itself could have been bigger, given the price point.
Im a Korean! Zampong was the best food Ive ever had before even in Korea! Also spicy zzazang myun and tangsuewook were great!
Small, cozy restaurant serving a tasty fusion of Chinese and Korean food. If you’re nearby, please do stop by and support this business! The poached dumplings were delicious!
Home-made style Korean Chinese dishes that are yummy and in huge portion. I am impressed with how the family runs the restaurant with such energy and high quality. Given the size of the dishes, I think the price is reasonable.
Easily the best Korean-Chinese cuisine we’ve had in the east bay and San Francisco. We’ve tried several spots near this neighborhood but nothing beats this spot for Zha Zhang Mian and Fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce. Awesome price, quick service, and delicious bites. 5/5

Fried dumplings, Tang sue yuk (crispy fried pork with sauce), and black bean noodles were my favorites.
Our favorite Jia Jiang mien in the Bay area. Along with their tang siu yuk is what we get everytime we come here. Prices are reasonable too.
I recently came back from Korea, and I couldn't find a better jajangmyeon. I remember thinking, while eating jajangmyeon there... "yuyu's better". This is old school jajangmyeon, not this sweet bland stuff that other places sell now. This is reminiscent of the jajangmyeon from 90s.
Ben there several times. Absolutely the best Chinese food I've ever had in my life! Parking can be a bit rough. Highly recommend!
Very delicious. I have been in search of this style of food since I moved to the bay. Ever since I was a little kid I have always loved jjajangmyeon. This is some of the best. The meal was definitley enchanced tenfold by the tangsuyuk. The lingering taste of the tangsuyuk and the jjajang were a very beautiful harmony. Yim Yum.

I noticed there were no photos here of the menu. Pretty decent American Chinese food, nothing fancy and not overpriced. If you are looking for a standard Chinese food place, this is a good bet. Had Szechuan beef--it was tasty but it was breaded and oily with some cabbage as the only veggie, so don't think you are getting California-style food here. Also, strangely, I think this place was originally Korean based on the name and characters (유 유 짜장) but they food is all American Chinese and the sign outside is Chef Yu's.
This local favorite, particularly among Korean-Americans, offers a nostalgic experience with its old-style Korean-Chinese cuisine. Known for its generous portions and authentic flavors, this mom-and-pop shop stands out in the community. The restaurant's survival through the COVID lockdown period speaks volumes about its loyal customer base. Dishes: - Black Bean Noodles (Jjajangmyeon): Less sweet than usual, these noodles are made with minimal sugar or artificial sweeteners, offering a healthier option without compromising on taste. - Seafood Noodles (Jjamppong): A popular choice, featuring a rich, flavorful broth packed with seafood. - Sweet and Sour Pork (Tang-Su-Yuk): Another favorite, perfectly balancing sweet and savory flavors. Service: The owner works hard to prepare delicious dishes, reflecting a deep care for her customers, despite her somewhat aloof demeanor. Service is slightly below average but not rude. Ambiance: A casual dining spot with limited seating, the restaurant is often busy, creating a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a Korean-Chinese restaurant in Korea. Additional Information: Price: Reasonably priced, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes. Parking: Street parking is required and paid. Be cautious not to park illegally to avoid tickets. Overall, this establishment offers an authentic taste of Korean-Chinese cuisine with generous portions and reasonable prices. Despite the slightly below-average service, the dedication to quality food and the bustling, casual atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit.
Jajang and Jjamppong are delicious, but the food here is even better!!! It's been a while since I visited Yu Yu, and this place is always a constant, my OG restaurant in my heart. It's not the cleanest, and the service isn't the friendliest, but it's always a place where I can enjoy great food!
Authentic spot for Korean noodles (jaja myeon) . The other options are great. I Especially their Tang su yuk which we had with sweet and sour sauce. Didn't have any banchan for some reason though.
This Korean-style Chinese restaurant located in Oakland, California, offers a variety of delightful dishes such as Tangsu-yuk (sweet and sour pork), fried dumplings, Jjajang-myon (black bean paste noodles), and Jjampong (spicy seafood noodles). The fried dumplings were exceptional, boasting a crispy exterior and a succulent, well-seasoned filling of pork and vegetables. The sweet and sour pork was equally impressive, with a delightful blend of sweetness in the sauce complementing the perfectly fried pork strips. While the noodle dishes were enjoyable, the texture of the noodles did not quite meet expectations, lacking the desired hand-stretched quality. The green chili sweet potato noodles provided a tasty kick with hot chili. The service was excellent, though there is room for improvement in the restaurant's overall ambiance to elevate the dining experience.
The service was pretty standard. I wasn't really expecting this style of jajang mian maybe because this one is more Korean and not as Chinese like I'm used to, or this is the more traditional kind? The noodles were pretty chewy which was fun but the sauce was too much and I'm not sure what the flavor was but it was maybe too overwhelming with not enough substance or toppings in it.
Loved the chicken fried rice, very flavorful. The sweet and sour pork was nice but more on the average side, could have been crispier although we did get takeout so it would probably be better fresh. Could’ve been spicier though.

Good selection of menu and better than other similar restaurants. Possibly best in bay area for Chinese-Koeran style food. One caution on parking, very hard to find safe place.

My first impression of this Korean Chinese restaurant was not clean. I had ordered several dishes to go. Noodles dishes were average, and some of the seafood in the noodle soup didn't taste fresh. I wish they used fresher oil to fry Tang-su-yuk(sweet and sour pork) because the batter was dark with spots.
Took a native Korean here. Jajangmyeon was very disappointing. Lacked flavor and ingredients. Kul Jjampong and Tangsuyuk are decent, satisfies the cravings but not impressive.

Definitely 2nd worst jjajangmyeon I’ve had in my life.. the sauce is so salty and the noodle is so undercooked that it was literally like eating spaghetti. There are so many better spots on telegraph. I’d try other places before giving this restaurant a shot.
The food was made so fast, not really cooked to the standard that everyone put. Only care about money. Horrible food places and poor customer service
grew up with jjajang noodle so I know how exactly the taste is supposed to be. But this one... the cook must put salt instead of sugar in the sauce. All the food was way too salty to eat. so I had to let the waiter know that it was too salty to eat. But all he said was "sorry" and not willing to cook again and still charged $65+ for the food. We will never go back.
