It's a small shop with great coffee and great food! They are very friendly and I even thought there were a lot of people it was very quiet.
Beautifully decorated, quality coffee and Syrian treats, friendly barista. Only issue was that she seemed to be working alone; I had to wait a long time before my Mocha was ready. But I didn't mind the wait, they have a bookshelf and comfortable seating.
What a lovely experience. There was no one in the shop (Wednesday morning 9am-ish) when I came in so I had the opportunity to ask many questions because I couldn't decide between a rose and pistachio drink. In the end went with the hot rose latte, and added 2 shots (already 2 shots in there so yeah I wanted a lots of caffeine) and then got help choosing a couple of pistachio-laden sweets. I loved everything I ordered and was super happy with the very friendly, sweet service. There are already tons of photos on Yelp of the beautiful interior, so next time I'll invite someone and drink/eat my goodies there!
Divine selections packed with flavor. The coffees and pastries are so delicious, words won't do them justice. The Rose Latte, Pistachio Latte were awesome. The rose pomegranate and creamy pistachio Turkish delights were fire! Friendly service and delicious treats, don't miss a chance to stop by Damask Rose asap!
Darling place! Would go back time and again if I lived nearby. Coffee was great, pastries also ; however I was disappointed by the flatbreads, so would not get these again. Overall, highly recommend a visit if you’re looking for a cute café to call your hangout. Super friendly staff.
This is a great update on the older Jump'n Java, which I used to enjoy as a cafe in the area. The decor is overflowing with fake flower garlands, and the pastry case is full of Syrian pastry treats, like the bird's nest full of pistachios that I enjoyed. Good mocha as well! I miss Jump'n Java's artwork, but I appreciate Damask Rose's ambience as well.
I was applying to jobs on my computer while I was here. The person sitting next to me was on a work call and sounded like a rockstar. I got distracted applying to jobs by how competent she was at her job. I'd imagine this is how people with shy bladders feel when they need to go in crowded public restrooms. It's overwhelming trying to go next to a person that already has a powerful and confident stream going. Anyway, eventually I was able to focus on my own business. The coffee was great here and once I got out of my head, this place had a very conducive environment for being productive.
I highly recommend this place, especially for folks who would like to try middle eastern food. We ordered their za’atar, cheese, and muhammara mana’eesh and enjoyed them. I think the vibes of the place made the visit special and I appreciate that it seems to be a family-owned business. Overall a great experience!
Homemade pistachio baklava and pistachio phyllo fingers? Why not? The middle eastern pastry Damask Rose makes is less syrupy than many so it was crunchy and not too sweet. Perfect treat! It’s a nice cafe to hang out, have a bite of Syrian flatbreads and catch up…feels like a charming European cafe.
I liked this place The latte was delicious and the place was nice and cute the service was really good too I'm glad they had one thing that was vegan and gluten-free one of the Turkish delights with rose petals which was delicious I bought a bunch of them I wish they had more vegan gluten-free stuff I would have bought so much more if they had.. I think they would have more purchases if they did..
I tried this spot for the first time an hour before closing. I had a rose latte and a pistachio warbat. The coffee was spectacular! The warbat was good but missing some of the characteristic honey they are usually drenched in. Staff was nice to let us know they would close soon. They offer free internet and decor is super cute. I will definitely come back for another rose latte!
TLDR: Overall: Adorable, vibey rose-themed cafe with unique drinks and sweets. My Order: Pistachio Latte (Hot) & Rose Latte (Hot) Price Breakdown: $15 total for both drinks (large) Halal/Vegetarian Friendly: N/A, but Palestinian owned! Would get again: Likely, especially their colder drinks and desserts just because I love roses and rose-flavored things so much. A very cute place in Rockridge! The cafe is beautifully decorated (perfect for the insta pics iykwim), and smells phenomenal. I discovered this place in my attempts to go cafe hopping, as was drawn in by the roses! I constantly forget I am not the biggest fan of coffee however, but even then I did enjoy the drinks (they were a bit pricey, but at this point most drinks seem to be around this price range unfortunately). The rose latte had a strong rose syrup underlying the coffee, though I almost wish there was just a bit more sweetness to it. I loved how light and fluffy the pistachio latte was - very cozy!
Really lovely local spot! Enjoyed a hot tea and some pastries, but I will be back for the savory foods! The staff was so kind and helpful.
Cute floral coffee shop emblematic of pre-war Syria, the romanticized days of Pax Romana at bay for a more modern retelling. What this means is the coffee is great and there are fresh pastries - baklava and birds nest made fresh. Pistachio lovers dream. I got the zesty mocha which has orange zest in it. It’s not an LGBTQ reference. But the double entendre stands. Plenty of locals and mellow vibes, with Arabic crooners outplaying pop songs overhead. Street parking wasn’t hard to find on a Sunday. 5/5 Will come again.
This cafe hits all the right notes. There are already many photos of the place and the atmosphere is quiet, relaxing, and rejuvenating. The drip coffee is robust with a nice taste profile. I ordered the lentil soup for my breakfast. The soup was comforting, and well balanced. It felt clean, nourishing, and delightful to the taste buds. If you need a place to relax and watch the cars go by, come here!
After I dropped my Vespa off for repair at Rockridge Two Wheels, my daughter and I walked down to Damask Rose for a coffee. What a pleasant surprise to find this shop! I love all the roses inside and the place feels comfortable and cozy. Both the pastries and coffees were excellent and I ate my food so fast, I forgot to take a photo of it first. Oops. My daughter had a chai something and although it made me gag, she said it was fabulous. Five stars!! Michael Delehanty Compass Real Estate
Truly, what is better than baklava and coffee?! Nothing? This place is great! Delicious coffee, tasty rose lemonade, an incredible selection of baklava and treats, delicious hummus, and I highly recommend the lamb flatbread, mana’eesh. It’s super fresh and they make it to order, it’s delicious! I’ll be back to try more flavors soon. I love the finger baklava, great texture and balance of flavors, but really you can’t go wrong with any of the options. Also, the rose latte is really good! I was surprised because I thought it might be too floral, but it was really balanced and not too sweet. A great spot and I feel fortunate to live so close. I’ll be back for more soon!
Beautiful beautiful ROSE cafe! Damask Rose Cafe is such a beautiful cafe, a little escape from reality for an hour or so. Definitely a Highly Instagrammable New Coffee Shop in North Oakland (Near Berkeley Bowl). The Mana’eish ( zaatar flat bread) and the Matcha latte was so delicious! The Mana'eish (Za'atar flatbread) was delicious as I remembered having it a few years ago (elsewhere) and the matcha latte was beautifully made and not super sweet, which I like. I cant wait to try the other beautiful Turkish pastries and drinks.
The pistachio baklava here are made locally by the owner/manager of the cafe. These baklava are fantastic! While they are definitely a dessert pastry, they aren’t overwhelmingly sweet like most other baklava I’ve had that are drenched in honey (which can be good but can also be “too much”). The baklava at Damask Rose don’t overdo the sweetness so you can really enjoy the flavor of the pistachios too. They are now my favorite baklava to get in the East Bay. There are also other tasty treats on offer at this cafe. I’ve also enjoyed the dolma. I haven’t yet tried the hummus or baba ganoush, but the owner told me that those are also made in-house. It is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy, with both inside and outside tables. Only 3 blocks from Ashby BART, La Peña Cultural Center, and the Starry Plough, and 5 blocks from Gamelan Sekar Jaya. This business is owned and managed by an immigrant woman of color. 😊
Super cute, cozy, and welcoming cafe. Seems family owned and the young lady and young man working here were extremely friendly. My wife and I ordered coffee, a few breakfast items, and baklava to top it off. Definitely recommend :)
Lucky to have stumbled on this shop while searching the best chai latte in Berkeley, and I am definitely coming back! Love the pink and flowery vibe and decor and the super comfortable chairs, which made the rose latte even more enjoyable. Recommend that, the chai latte, and the homemade flatbread with za’atar. The chai latte is a homemade recipe, not some nasty premix. It can be had unsweetened or with a number of exotic syrups. Seems like quite a studious place. Lots of folks working quietly in the pleasant breeze and comfy chairs.
I’m delighted to have the Damask Rose in our neighborhood, and it is clearly loved. I’m a proud loyalty card member now. Their cold brew coffee is strong and spiced with cardamom, making it refreshing and fragrant. Their espresso drinks are also great. The interior is dripping with faux-flowers, making it a haven for instagrammers and those looking for a cherry spot to meet up with a friend.

Always amazing coffee and great service. I love this place.
Such a gem! Amazing flatbread and I didn’t know lentil soup could be this good! We want to eat everything on the menu. Warm and cozy little café with a surprisingly extensive menu. We’ll be back!
A wonderful, dreamy cafe with delicious drinks and meals. We had the Za’atar flat bread, spinach & walnut flat bread, and lentil soup. We got hot tea and an ice rose latte. All were delicious. Can’t wait to return!
Quiet lil Cafe. Perfect for some amazing coffee. Delicous pastries. My picky daughters loved it. Loved the cortado. Amazing Staff. Very warm and welcoming...❤️
Very yummy baba ghanoush and chia seed pudding. Just wish they had actual warmed bread not from microwave with the dip dishes. Nice little coffee shop. Good selection.
Wow!!! What a jewel Damask Rose is. If you like cozy coffee shops this is a truly great experience. The coffee is middle eastern so it's strong and rich in flavor. The delicacies set it off. The baklava is awesome amongst other Turkish delights. The floral setting is amazing for chats with friends. The ladies working there are lovely and kind bring a bit of the Turkish culture inside the place. Visit and share your experience with me. Not made for large groups. It's a place for you to come alone or with one or two friends at most.

This is a very cute and loved (family owned?) Cafe. They have good coffee, and probably 15 kinds of homemade Turkish delights. Absolutely worth a try, as well as their other sweets. This place really feels well loved by the owners, and the care they took to decorate it and create an ambiance is really impressive (even if Pink is not your color). Pro tip: ask them to make you a Rose Matcha Latte. It's not officially on the menu but delicious
They've really created a beautiful, comforting, and inviting space. I enjoyed my chia fruit cup in the morning. I enjoyed my rose latte although I was not a fan of the almond milk (they were out of oat milk). I am happy to see the business thriving.
Ok coffee. Pastry is nice. Decor in person is not as dreamy as the pictures.

If you like cafés then you have to try this place for the ambiance alone. I've never seen a place decorated with so many flowers. White tables seats and benches all over the place. It was really incredible to see. The coffee and tea isn't bad either. There isn't a single picture which means somebody wants to keep this place a secret and I don't blame them. It's pretty small so keep that in mind.

It's been about 20 minutes waiting on one rose latte...Only one staff to cater to numerous customers. Another staff just showed up. The place is cute with the hanging faux flowers and plants but 20+ minutes wait for a latte is ridiculous. Plus there is no way to tell who the drinks are for since they're not calling out names or numbers. They only have a handful of drinks so most customers are ordering similar items. And now the main employee is walking around asking people if someone ordered a regular latte. Apparently the man who ordered this latte just walked away according to another customer. I won't return.
