I found everything about this place perfect. The food was enormously good, and the red curry with wild rice was something I would get again. The ambience is cute but also proper, with good lighting and interior design. Very friendly and helpful staff as well. I came across it on a walk, while I was touring the neighborhood for a brief work trip.
We ordered takeout from here last night it was awesome. We had Chicken Satay, Crispy Spring Rolls, Papaya Salad, Eggplant Basil, Pad See Ew, Drunken Noodle and Green Curry, Papaya Salad and Cucumber Salad. Everything was super fresh and tasty really good flavor the cucumber salad is a super good deal it was like $4 or something if I lived close that would be my snack. Lastly we had mango sticky rice, Thai Iced Tea and a Vietnamese Coffee. All for a little over $100 takeout. Would definitely do takeout again but next time we gotta eat in. I didn’t take a picture of my food plated but I did take a pic of leftovers so you know it’s a real review lol enjoy.
Tasty Thai food in a trendy, super cute bistro. We visited for takeout and had the fresh spring rolls, green curry, and Kana Moo Krob. They were all really yummy! The green curry has a good flavor, but is a bit on the sweet side, with green beans and eggplant. The kana moo krob had crispy pork belly and spicy greens. It’s a super cute spot for a date, and roughly $20 per dish. The only thing it’s missing is some cats to keep you company 😹
Great service and great food, we got the pad Thai and the green curry. Thought pad Thai was excellent and the green curry was pretty good! The tea was also pretty good, not too sweet. So adorable and very nice staff.
wawathaifood is now one of my favorite Thai restaurants to visit in Oakland! It is such a hidden gem! 💕The artworks are so cute and welcoming. My friends and I love eating here! Everything we order was delicious and so flavorful. The Sweet and sour Snapper, Fried Chicken & Roti and Pad Thai were some of my favorites, though the ginger salad was so refreshing! You must order the #ขันโตก Khan Toke specials, it is food that is serve on a pedestal tray which is used as a small dining table. What a fun experience, with so many delicious little plates of food to samples. Don’t forget their Thai teas/coffee, and delicious cocktails. Check them out when you’re in Oakland, make sure to bring all your friends so y’all can try ALL their delicious Northern Thai dishes, especially the Khan Toke. We can’t wait to come back and try the other dishes.
We got take out . All the stuff we ordered came correct . I thoroughly enjoyed this crab fried rice. The sauce it came with was a flavor bomb! My cousin is allergic to shellfish but it was so good he ate some anyways . I guess it was worth the runs. Their samosa , pad Thai and soups were great !
Honestly it was a terrific experience. The server Nena was such a diligent and hospitable server; the way she carried herself was enough to solidify another return to the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and you will be delighted. And the food was delicious. I’m glad I decided to try this Thai restaurant and I humbly recommend you do too.
Delicious delicious meal! Comforting, spicy and huge portion too. I recently came back and tried their crab — brings me back home! If you need comfort food, this is the place to go. Outdoor seating available, I saw plenty of street parking available, and was busy during lunch time and they also do takeout. I suggest to come before rush hour , enjoy the outdoor seating and dont skip the thai beers <3
Man these guys are good. More food/$ than you’d get in Telegraph/Broadway Ave areas. Had fresh coconut (farmer grandfather & I shared our love for the fruits of the soil) + tofu & vegetable Pad thai. Lovely decor, quiet and constant flow of people. Definitely must try
Not your mainstream Thai food. My partner and I went on a food adventure with the classic Khan Toke and Khao Soi with boneless chicken thighs. However, when we were asked how spicy we wanted our food, we did ask for “Thai spicy”, it ended up feeling like a mild-medium spiciness to us; we might have a higher tolerance to pain and suffering than other patrons. We definitely recommend the Khan Toke. We definitely want to go back and also try their enticing cocktails!
Came here for lunch on a Monday at 1:30ish in January. Easy street parking. I was greeted immediately and was told to sit anywhere. There were lots of tables available! Modern decor and very bright with good natural light considering it's partially located in a renovated basement. The only suggestion would be to dress warm, cuz it was a bit chilly. I was lucky to sit at a table next to their small floor heater. My food server was very helpful in recommending many different dishes for a party of one. The table next to me had an assortment of dishes, and my eyes locked onto their fried chicken & roti dish. For $18, it came with one big juicy and perfectly battered chicken breast topped with an over easy egg. Under that, was a large roti. It also came with a small side of pickled cucumber salad/relish and yellow curry sauce in a miniature gravy boat. Presentation was really pretty and the flavors were equally satisfying. I also ordered the Thai iced tea at $4, and it was rich and creamy! I found the pricing to be very reasonable for these two items, and I definitely will be back to try more of their appetizers (Kao Soi) and entrees (Drunken Noodles & curries).
Update 1/2/21 ---------------------- Lunch Pickup, ordered via webapp. Good experience. Wawa (the name of the owner) is always so sweet and nice! Tom kha / tofu - excellent. Didn't think I'd like the whole cherry tomatoes but they totally work. Green curry w/tofu - excellent. Beans not underdone, perfect spice level. Rice included which is nice touch. Shrimp rolls - again excellent see original review. Original review ----------------------- Ordered pickup, got the shrimp rolls, Kai Soi, and Eggplant Basil with seafood (spicy level "spicy"). Pickup service was super friendly. Ready in 20min. Easy parking. Everything was delicious, fresh, and bright. The shrimp rolls were perfect: golden crispy on the outside with that delicate crunch and tender inside. Really yummy. Eggplant basil was outstanding. Intensely flavorful and had generous portions of both eggplant and seafood (scallops, shrimp, muscles, fish). Everything was cooked properly. Spice level perfect (I like spicy, but not "thai spicy"). Came with white rice. Picture is about 3/5ths of the order. Kai Soi (curried chicken noodle soup) seems to be a house specialty. It's for my wife and I haven't really tried it yet, but it smells wonderful and a spoonful of the broth was delicious. Note bone-in chicken leg & thigh (which we like). There's love and care in this food. We will definitely be returning, I'm looking forward to trying the green curry, crab fried rice, and... well, kinda everything. There's also an outdoor patio.

we are SO lucky to have this amazing restaurant in the neighborhood, it is truly a cut above regular Thai restaurants with unique menu items and an explosion of flavors, you can tell they put a lot of love into the food! we get take out from heare at least once a month!
Came here for a last minute dinner and were seated immediately. The server was very attentive and prompt. We had the Pad Thai and a Noodle plate. Portions were very good and the food was flavorful and well seasoned. Definitely my go to Thai spot in Oakland
Wawa Thai food was a favorite from when it opened, but then a few years ago they suddenly closed for many months. After they reopened, the food wasn't the same for a while, but I am so happy to say that they're back to the amazing, authentic, affordable Thai food they were before! They have some of the best pra ram around, and their curries are amazing. Most entrees come with rice which is nice, and the portions are always very generous. I recently tried their Khan Toke veg (also available not vegetarian) which was an absolutely amazing sampling platter that was more than enough to feed two hungry people at an amazing price. It truly felt like such an amazing treat to get and was beautiful as well as delicious and showed off the many influences within Thai cuisine.
The Pad See Ew was heavy on healthy vegetables and had the right proportion of chicken and noodles. I got take out but the place was cute! Great date spot decorated for Valentine’s Day.
Got Tom Kha, pad see ewe, fried chicken and papaya salad. All were delicious! Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely come again.

This was my first time eating here, footnote. I’m not from this area. Had a group that went hiking and decided on Thai food after the hike. Went with the chicken yellow curry and Jazmyne rice. Overall, it was good and the service was very friendly. At the end, they brought out some snacks for dessert that were prepackaged.
Wawa Thai is a cute little Thai restaurant in Upper Diamond neighborhood of Oakland, CA. They pride themselves of serving authentic Northern Thai dishes. I came to grab a late lunch/early supper and was sat immediately. Interior decor and atmosphere were cute and relaxing, respectively. Dine-in area was spacious albeit limited but it’s meant to be that way given this was a small restaurant. Moreover, their menu items were modest. I ordered a Pad Thai, Spring Rolls and Thai Iced Coffee. Both tasted great and very flavorful. Drink was refreshing. Staff was amiable and assiduous. Service was on point. Prices were economically reasonable. Street parking only. Collectively, I can say this was a good Thai restaurant. I had a good dine-in experience and enjoyed my meal/drink. I recommend them if you’re in the Bay area.
Tried out Wawa for the second time since a friend spoke so highly of it and recommended we dine in, instead of ordering out (we did that for the first time and didn't enjoy anything we ordered the first time). We got the shrimp rolls which were pretty standard, the roti with curry dipping sauce was good, khao soi with crispy pork belly is probably the best Thai style I've had in the bay so far (red curry based broth, spicy, added additional chili oil and peppers and leveled up the flavors). The pickled mustard greens on the side were amazing! We didn't like the boat noodle that was advertised in the menu and tasted like instant noodles but, the workers had no problem taking it back and let us get a different dish. The Pad Thai is what we chose and it was good and we like how saucy it was. Thai ice tea was standard and the lemongrass infused cocktail... It didn't taste like lemongrass at all and it was really acidic.

This place is a great alternative to the spot up the street. The prices are reasonable and happy hour made the parking struggle worthwhile. I wasn’t too keen on the service. The bartender was not welcoming and the servers couldn’t really give me their opinion on the food. If I visit again, I will order to-go.

First time here, wasn’t impressed the obvious store bought egg rolls were cold on the inside! Tom Yum Soup the flavor was great just hardly any veg or meat. Fill the bowl! Disappointing meal, cute place, nice people.
