Wow! We got a table for 11 people on the rooftop area, and it was absolutely amazing! The environment was very aesthetic and I love the amount of patio furniture and plants that were present. There was also an upstairs bathroom, which was convenient. The guy that was serving us was so super patient and funny, which I really appreciate. He was very attentive to anything we needed. The margarita pizza I ordered wasn't the best margarita pizza I'd ever had, but it was still good. I also ordered the juga del dia--I forgot what it was, I think maracuya? Either way, it was decent. The majority of our group got drinks, and they were good. Overall, not my favorite place for food, but I LOVED the service and vibes here! Do rooftop if you can.
Wow great food & service! We’ve been here for 3 days in el Centro trying all the authentic traditional food Oaxaca has to offer. When my family suggested switching it up going Italian & pizza I was apprehensive. So we found El sol y la Luna and our server Jorge was so attentive and gave us great recommendations. We started with French fries that were homemade felt like home with 4 sauces. We tried two empanadas that Jorge recommended and they were full of flavor and must try cheesy fresh deliciousness. We order two pizza’s pepperoni & bolognese with a lasagna for our family if 4. The cheese the sauce so light yet full of flavor we ate it all. My kids ordered the Nutella crepe for dessert and it was so authentic warm gooey Nutella goodness. Had a bottle of wine to pair with the meal it was perfect. Great food amazing service one of my favorite meals in Oaxaca. Thank you Jorge for a great dining experience.
Great place for good and well-priced food, but the Jazz quartet was the highlight. Highly recommended. Music starts around 9pm.
That was absolutely the best carbonara pasta I've had in my life! It was very authentic very tasty and very filling. Then add on a nice warm basket of bread, some delicious sauces! What a good luck we just happened to find this place 😍❤️❤️ We were seated instantly and served wonderfully.
Service was amazing! They do stay open until midnight which is a plus if you're looking for a full meal late at night. Our waiter was very attentive and we were very thankful for all the delicious dishes. The portion sizes were so large which I loved. The arugula salad that I ordered came to the table so crisp and refreshing and the entire plate was full and practically overflowing. I recommend giving them a try!
Unlike some other reviewers we very much enjoyed our meals here. Both entrees were prepared and presented well, the service was great and the courtyard was lovely.
Went by for an amazing flamenco show, didn’t eat here although menu looks like standard Italian fare. A slightly more mature and high-end crowd, many of whom seem to be regulars, makes for a clubby feel. Owners are friendly and warm. Recommended for a nice evening when you are mole-ed out.
I enjoyed my pint of Boy Stout, one of my favorite Oaxaca brewed beers. The music was good. But, the food was disappointing. My empanadas were only average. I could taste the flavors described on the menu, but the empanada was almost totally hollow, like only a paste was used. My dining companions, who had eaten here many times before ate a hamburguesa said its quality had gone down noticeably since their last one. A lower quality bun was one reason. Try the pizza, I guess The one on our neighboring table looked good. I returned for a pizza. Decent, but there are bigger, better tasting ones for the same price at a couple of places I've been in Oaxaca. The pizza here doesn't cover a dinner plate.
Ambiance -3 Service - 2.5 Food - 2.5 Drinks 2.5 A 3* review is being generous... This was easily the worst meal I had in Oaxaca. If you look at my other reviews you see I'm not super harsh, but this place was not good. The salad was fine, but I'm not sure if it is a Oaxaca City thing, but everytime I order a salad or appetizer it comes out with or after my meal. What is with that? I get the salad to fill up so not to overindulge on my meal. I will specify moving forward cause this could be cultural, so my fault not the restaurants fault. The steak had to be the lowest grade quality. It was cooked probably, I can say that. The mushrooms/onion sause that accompanied the steak tasted like canned soup in green bean casserole. The chimichurri tasted like cheap store bought. The "garlic sauce" tasted like ranch dressing with garlic powder added. The potatoes that accompanied the steak were actually good. Potatoe salad like, but nice. Don't get me wrong I did eat my food because I was already paying for it and it was eatable but as someone that doesn't cook I could have made this 100 times better. Never saw the waiter again after I order the food (someone else brought it out). I had to hunt him down for the check. They did have some nice live music. Sidenote (didn't impact my rating) My table was so wobbly that I was scared everytime I touched it. The server tried to fit it but it barley made a dent (I should have moved). And the second I went to cut my food my mediocre sangria, spilled everywhere. This part did impact my service rating...I cleaned the table with napkins. I explained what happened to gentleman that brought out my food. Nobody ever wiped the table (just sat at a stick table with a sticky floor the rest of the time) and no one every asked if I wanted to order another glass of sangria.
Our visit was ruined by the slow operating kitchen. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the waiter was friendly and attentive. However some main plates took way too long to arrive at the table, in excess of 40 and 60 minutes. We were only told they were going to take long after we asked the waiter 2 times. Also one of the desserts we ordered got automatically cancelled by the kitchen because they wouldn’t be able to prepare it in time. I would call this organisational disaster, pitty and shame. Other than that most of the food was really nice and tasty, although don’t expect original flavours when you see italian, arabic and greek plates all in one restaurant.
Sadly I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. The staff were all pleasant but our food took over an hour to arrive, with one member of our party only receiving her meal once the rest of the table had already finished. The two vegetarian lasagnes were disappointing - small portion sizes for the 240 pesos and not traditional at all. We ordered chips on the side and again the portions were small - we had to go elsewhere afterwards for a pizza just to fill us up! Our friend enjoyed her meat lasagne however and the meat bolognaise portion was large. The restaurant interior was nice and clean we were just left disappointed with some of the food and the wait times.
The food was tasty, there is live music and paintings on the wall. But I give a minus 3 for the service, we wanted to sit in the back but was told that it's all full, while the reality is that I saw many empty tables back there. That woman in a coat probably didn't expect me to walk about to see the art and find out that she lied to us. The waitress simply looks unhappy the whole time, never smiled. The pasta sauce was tasty but the pasta is not homemade. The empanada was very good.
The pizza is below average, and the steak, which was ordered medium, was completely overcooked. I left it uneaten, and the dish was served with a mediocre salad. I can't recommend this place at all. This might work in any tourist spot somewhere in the world, but since we're in Oaxaca, where the cuisine is amazing, it's better to skip the food and just go for a drink. The drinks aren't good either, but definitely don't eat here in Oaxaca. It's a disappointment, given that there are so many excellent restaurants around!
A scam for tourists who they know won't come back. We ordered a pizza and a pasta carbonara; the pizza was a frozen pizza with some extra toppings, and the carbonara had zero bacon and it tasted like pasta with plain cream. Extremely expensive when compared to what you can get with the same money almost anywhere else. Quality/Price= 0🙄 Definitely never coming back nor recommending this place.
