This is my absolute fave bar of all time! I know all the bartenders including Mariah, Shawna, Dave. Albert. The atmosphere and mix of customers here changes almost hourly. Drinks are cheap some beers are dollar off until 6 PM Come by and meet some locals in Oceanside’s unpretentious down to earth dive bar!

Always a trip to The Head when visiting Oceanside. Great pours and great Bartenders and Manager. Long bar seats probably 12 to 15 people. Plenty of additional high tops. Bar only, no food but there are plenty of options surrounding. Easy walk from all Oceanside hotels. Highly recommend and always will return.

If you're ever in the Downtown Oceanside area and you're hanging out past 9PM at night, there's a good chance that you will find yourself at this local hideaway. Welcome to The Haunted Head Saloon. It's one of Oceanside's most famous Dive Bars. Actually, The Haunted Head Saloon is one of the only bars in Downtown that can be considered "Divey". Because they do not have any food for sale here, you MUST BE 21 OR OLDER to enter. NO EXCEPTIONS. What I love the most about The Head is that their security is on-point and it's relatively safe inside (considering that it's a dive bar). The few times I've seen drama, it was quickly addressed and carried outside. One of the BEST aspects of The Haunted Head is its location. You can find it right off of Mission Ave & Tremont St in the heart of the Downtown Area. It's just north of the Regal Movie Theater. Because of its location, you can walk to the movies, to the pier or beach (2 blocks away) or to any of the parking garages nearby (within 8 minutes). In addition, there is Pier Pizza located right next door to them selling pizza by-the-slice, tacos across the way at Sanchos Tacos, Strawberry Shack for cake desserts & Fugu icecream shop just around the corner. So, you can always find something to eat BEFORE you start drinking AND the pizza shop typically stays opened late for the crowds. The bartenders work quickly (especially considering the crowds) and there is a Full Bar at their disposal. I wouldn't come here for a "foo-foo" pretty cocktail, BUT, simple mixed drinks or shots are best. They've got some TVs in there (just for decoration because everyone's drinking), a pretty solid pool table (that they maintain monthly) and a jukebox that patrons can customize their songs too (download the AMI MUSIC APP). PRO-TIP: There are snack bags by the bar to nibble on, ask the bartender for one 😉 There's also a 5 gal water dispenser in the back. The interior is dark, pirate themed and decorated in $1 bills. The tradition is to get yours from the bartender, sign it and tape it up! There's booth seating in the corners, 2 long wooden tables for seating, bar seating & multiple high-chair tables too. The only aspect lacking in this bar are the bathrooms. Well, I can only speak for the men's bathroom. It's small. Cramped and no privacy. Pretty much exactly what I would expect from a dive bar! 😆 Anyhow, The Haunted Head Saloon has been around for as long as I can remember and I always recommend passing through late at night when in the Downtown Oceanside area; besides, everything else is closed!

This place has a great selection of beer and you drink from pitchers. Pretty rad. They also serve liquor, and clearly have no idea what they're doing when it comes to mixing because that was the single worst cocktail I've had in a long time from anyone but a total amateur. If you go here, get a beer. Also one of the statues has crazy cleavage.

Quite possibly the last true dive-y bar left around the downtown Oside area. Since pier view pub is now a country club and seltzer tap. Had a great time here playing pool with a constant mix of new and mostly entertaining peeps. Especially, "Red", the red headed barbie of the night. Have fun Osiders, I wish I still lived in the are to hit this place up once in awhile.

Kinda cool pirate dive bar near the Oceanside pier, across from the movie theater. A good stop when bar hoping or eye shopping or for a quick drink but often too crowded for a longer stay. Age ranges from 20's - 30's and usually good crowd of locals and marines.

The place is awesome but the guy running the pool table (Austin) that doesn't even work there runs the name list wrong. If a person is on the table, their name should not be on the board. That should not be going on since the list is long and people ate waiting to play.

Went bar hopping with a few friends. Had a great experience. The drink was really strong but that's what I wanted👍🏻 place was very packed though, if you're not a fan of crowded places might not be the best for you. Took a little bit of time to order because of the crowd but drinks were coming out fast.

I love how open and accepting it is here. They literally ARE the local vibe. The drinks are great. I've been in a number of places that charge high end prices for watered down drinks and this isn't it. Coming directly from a "high end" establishment into here, I was knocked on my heels. I got everything I was looking for in a single place (minus food). Parking. It's Oceanside. There's so much parking here, just do it. Last note. I heard a nasty rumor Haunted Head isnt going to be here much longer. It's been open is '93 or before. Drop your dinner dates and come here before the last of our culture is gone! You won't be sorry.

Go after 6pm. The bartender before then seems to be too busy to help you. The one after 6 wants everyone's thirst quenched. She is awesome. Security gaurd is cool and the bar has a great theme. An older bar with a pirate theme in the center of shops that surround the Oceanside pier. It's usually somewhat crowded to very crowded but the service is good and you won't wait long ordering the next round. The crowd is mostly friendly locals ages 20's - 30's but if you can find a seat or a table im sure any age will find conversation easy if its not too loud to hear yourself think. I recommend only going in off peak hours, it's worth checking out.

Drinks were okay. Bathrooms for the ladies are very awkward and the prices for drinks are a to expensive for how much you actually get but then again your in California! I hate to say this but my husband did get laced with something here by a stranger and I had to carry and call us a taxi to our hotel so please be sure to always watch your drinks around strangers! (He had only had 3 drinks) and for him that's NOTHING. But it's a cool place to hang and the bartenders are very attentive.

Me and my boyfriend have been really enjoying going to haunted head for a while now. we were really disappointed to find out today that they got rid of their Foosball table. There aren't any Foosball tables at ANY bars in Oceanside. Foosball was the main reason why we liked this bar, because my boyfriend plays professionally. We had spent alot of money playing on their table and are saddened to find out we most likely won't be returning any time soon without the table being at the bar. It's really to bad. It was a tight squeeze. Cozy and warm from the crowd (or claustrophobic if you like space). This place brings in guests from all of the surrounding cities and it's only a couple of blocks from the beach. Good spot to meet, mingle, or end your coastal brewery crawl.

Following a quick lunch & drinks at Sancho's Tacos, our group attempted to keep the party going. The 4 of us crossed the street & made our way into The Haunted Head Saloon. It's a cross between the Pirates Of The Caribbean ride, & your typical dive bar. It was fairly dark inside, with all men seated at the bar, & a large group of 8 young women sitting in the back, around 2 tables. They have a pool table inside, & 2 young Marines were engaged in a pretty fierce pool battle, near where my group parked, on a U-shaped bench seat. The bartender, an old lady with long white-hair- not the least bit friendly- barked at me to show her my ID, to get a beer. I told her, "I wouldn't trust myself either- I die my hair white." Had to engage in a little saucy sarcasm, to counter that attitude of hers. Got my drink, a Modelo on draught, & my friend collected his, a Coor's Light in a bottle, & we headed back to our seats, & our better halves. Our posse commenced to tell funny stories, while watching the 2 Marines trade games winning, at the pool table. A quirky thing about this place, is there are dollar bills, with whatever the bar patrons decide to scribble on them, dangling from the ceiling & plastered all over the walls. It was laid back in here. Everyone inside the bar appeared to be in a liquid-induced state of zen. Queen's Fat-Bottomed Girls came blasting from their sound system, & I screamed the first verse of this song, in my best Freddy Mercury voice. Don't know if I'd do that stone cold sober. Interesting place, I didn't like the bartender, & I don't know if I'd come back here...may be a 1 & done.

Prices went up dramatically with the new owner. It's cool, it's small and gets packed fast. 1 pool table 1 -2 bar tenders.

I used to love this dive bar. Cheap drinks, good pour, jukebox. The prices have gone way up. No longer dive bar prices. $14 for a Bullett bourbon neat.

Rude bar staff. Asked to close the tab with the drink we ordered. She took over 15 minutes with a medium crowd. In that time, staff was chit chatting with one another and friend customers while we were still waiting. I as the friend said I'll tip an additional $20 if you close our tab right now because our ride was waiting. Got a rude sarcastic response. I've worked at 2 bars. I get it. Also I get lack of prioritization. And lack of kindness.

After seeing the high reviews for this bar, my husband and I were very excited to visit, especially since this bar appeared in our search results for "gay-friendly bar." We came on a Saturday night which was understandably busy. We found a seat at the bar and waited about 15 minutes before we were approached by the bartender, whom I believe was named Rebecca. When she first spoke to us, she didn't say hi or ask for our order. Instead she told us to have our card and ID ready. We told her we hadn't ordered yet, and she told us "yeah I know." When she eventually came back, I told her that we felt like that was a rude comment, since it was our first time at the bar. She immediately become defensive, and said "do you want to do my job for me?" Before we had a chance to respond, she called for a guy named Gabriel to kick us out of the bar. When we tried to explain what had happened since it was mostly a misunderstanding, he said "I don't care, you guys need to get the f*** out of our bar." and refused to listen to the fact that we hadn't even been served yet. I'm not one to proclaim discrimination, but as soon as I mentioned that we seemed to be the only gay couple in the bar, Gabe rolled his eyes and walked away from us. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or any minority that wants to avoid feeling discriminated against (reading a few reviews, this unfortunately seems to be a common occurrence here).

I went to the bathroom here last night and they wanted my license. Forgot to get it back and they won’t answer the phone at all. I cannot get a hold of these people. I’m in San Diego, but I can’t get a hold of these people. I’ve tried all day and all certified night last night. Don’t go to this place.

The bartender Nichole is so unfriendly she gives you the feeling that your on her nerves whenever you can get her attention to ask for another drink. Love the eclectic vibe of the place and the locals are great but they loss my business because of staff

This bar is a staple of oside. Great vibe but it needs a deep cleaning. The ceiling fans have 2 inch dust on them! I hope they clean the bar glasses because that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Great bartenders but unfortunately horrible security. Jared at the front door unfortunately abuses his power. Came in 2 days ago and got my backpack stolen. I am here today checking if anybody had returned it by any chance and Jared immediately freaked out and told me I wasn't going to come in. Last time I was here, he tried to fight me for being one of the last people in the bar. (and no I wasn't one of those people that didn't want to leave) He raised his tone immediately and raced towards me urging me to leave within seconds. Their was also females in the bar but picked on me instead of making it an "everybody" leave the bar thing. He catcalls woman leaving. Typical guy making minimum wage thinking he owns the place because he actually has power somewhere and yes Jared i'm a nerd for writing a review on google and yes nobody is gonna read it because it's a bar and yes I should take a picture of you to post and let everybody know you have dreads. Have fun with your poor mindset. I was here to ask if anybody had returned my backpack, not come in. Keep it up and you're gonna end up to no good. Wouldn't be surprised if you were already. Hopefully one of these days your brain will be able to process that I am actually trying to help you because you're not gonna go anywhere in life being the way you acted towards me.

Bad experience and very unprofessional bartender on weekends. Only nice if you tip big and will get you kicked out for any reason. Haven’t been here in over 3 years and wanted to try again then not even 5 minutes got kicked out for no clear reason by the brunette “Alex” Obvious she has something personal with some women, if she doesn’t like you will ignore you. Very toxic bartender and obnoxiously rude. Was charged 34$ for a small cocktail and a rum and coke. What? She looked upset and pushy. This isn’t the first time about trying to be charged more. Don’t get too drunk because you’ll see overcharges on your bill.We got kicked out after we ordered and had to chug our drinks without any reason given to why. Security guy said “well she said she doesn’t want you here” She didn’t make eye contact either and not sure why the owner is never to be around and when I’ve asked for him they say he’s on vacation or he will be here this day and never is.

Bar back constantly harassed a girl who he spilt the drink of, after she confronted him. Don't confront the staff if you want to have a good time. Dude is a little sensitive and will take it personally if you talk to him about his behavior.

When I reached out to Haunted Head about the bartender giving herself an unauthorized additional tip, the response I received was “You’re complaining about that? Seriously?” (See attached photo.) Full Story: I have called on two separate days, requesting to speak to the manager, and both times I was denied the ability to. The second time I called, the woman who answered the phone hung up on me. Her voice sounded the same as the voice of the woman displayed in the attached photo, who perpetually yelled at me in the bar because she was unaware that the tip I left for her was placed on a different card. When I tried to explain this to her, she didn’t understand me, and continued to yell at me, very loudly, in front of other customers and the other staff member, making us all extremely uncomfortable, and quite honestly very alarmed. Upon review of my credit card charges, I see that she gave herself an additional tip without permission, and charged me $50. I am now uncomfortable with returning to Haunted Head, and have not returned, because I am worried I will run into this woman again if I do, or have my money stolen again.

This bar is a staple of oside. Great vibe but it needs a deep cleaning. The ceiling fans have 2 inch dust on them! I hope they clean the bar glasses because that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Great bartenders but unfortunately horrible security. Jared at the front door unfortunately abuses his power. Came in 2 days ago and got my backpack stolen. I am here today checking if anybody had returned it by any chance and Jared immediately freaked out and told me I wasn't going to come in. Last time I was here, he tried to fight me for being one of the last people in the bar. (and no I wasn't one of those people that didn't want to leave) He raised his tone immediately and raced towards me urging me to leave within seconds. Their was also females in the bar but picked on me instead of making it an "everybody" leave the bar thing. He catcalls woman leaving. Typical guy making minimum wage thinking he owns the place because he actually has power somewhere and yes Jared i'm a nerd for writing a review on google and yes nobody is gonna read it because it's a bar and yes I should take a picture of you to post and let everybody know you have dreads. Have fun with your poor mindset. I was here to ask if anybody had returned my backpack, not come in. Keep it up and you're gonna end up to no good. Wouldn't be surprised if you were already. Hopefully one of these days your brain will be able to process that I am actually trying to help you because you're not gonna go anywhere in life being the way you acted towards me.
