Kampai Sushi

We've lived in Oceanside for several years and only recently found this gem of a place. Its right down the street from us in what is unfortunately strip mall. Nevertheless, once inside you forget about that. The interior is simple but clean. The service was very friendly and attentive. Our wait to be seated was short but gave enough time to peruse the menu posted on the exterior window. Our order was taken by a very friendly waitress. We order 4 sushi platters. They arrived in no more than 15 min. Everything tasted fresh and D... delicious. Between our party if 3 we left very satisfied and full. Great food at a reasonable price. I definitely recommend this place to whom ever I can. I just hope we can still find a seat on a Friday night.

My daughter's and I have made this our Tuesday Sushi Night. We've named it Tushi Night. We have met the owners William and Jun and we can't begin to tell you what an unbelievable experience we've had.It may not be the fanciest Sushi Place but the Sushi is out of this world. They have gone over and beyond to make our visit special each and every Tushi...and the Servers are the best. William and Jun thank you.

Called ahead on NYE and got a table semi-reserved. Although there was still a wait when we arrived, the ladies were very kind and moved quickly to get us our table. The food came out quickly for the all you can eat sushi option. The cuts of fish were fresh and the rolls were well crafted. Friendly Korean chefs and I felt comfortable ordering anything from the menu. Our drinks and tea were always kept full and the service was polite and prompt. This was my second time visiting them and will for sure visit again soon .

The food was really good. The only comment my fiance had was the salmon skin was a bit more crunchy than normal but the rest of the food was great. The atmosphere and service was great too. My advice is to keep the supplies in the back out of view. I enjoyed the waitress we had.

This location is by far the most authentic when it comes to sushi and environment. These guys aren’t trying to be the best, all they care about is the freshness. And making sure people get that experience of sushi in California. It’s a great hole in the wall and mom and Pop. Birthday are covered for desserts and they accept military discount. It’s been locally owed for about 28 years!! 2 original owner’s.

The new menu has different items and different prices than before. I wound up spending a bit more than I had planned or wanted to for a quick lunch but the owner was kind enough to give me a complementary miso soup for the inconvenience. I think the direction they are trying to go is a bit more sophisticated with food that can really showcase the Chef's skills and training. I didn't notice it till I was writing this review, but the new menu has a different name on it, so maybe they are changing the name of the restaurant? I don't know. I hope it works out. Everything sounded delicious.

I absolutely love this little hole-in-the-wall from the outside it doesn't seem like much but when you walk in it's pretty it's clean it's inviting and you are always greeted by the sushi chefs. My honey and I come here all the time and order the same thing. The owner already knows what beer we want what sake we want what rolls we want. There is nothing like a little spot that knows you and always produces quality consistent fresh delicious food. If you're a big eater which we aren't they have an all-you-can-eat option we tried that once we could barely walk out

Celebrated a friend's birthday a little late but totally worth getting together at Kampai Sushi. Service was timely; wait staff are friendly and professional; all you can eat menu had so many choices; and the price is reasonable. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the best sushi in town; I'm giving the lunch experience a 5*. If you are not that much into rice and like nigiri then order from the menu otherwise sushi choices was 👌. I really enjoyed the variety of the roll selection, liked the gyoza, enjoyed the garlic edamame, and the miso soup provided a nice start. We'll definitely visit again and bring more friends that haven't tried all-you-can-eat sushi.

Food was great and the service was fantastic. If you eat in you get a discount! So much food for only 35 bucks. Will definitely go back. My new favorite sushi place.

Sushi Chef Hiro is wonderful! We enjoyed the Japanese culture. Great Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel whole fish. Pacific oysters on the half shell.

Got the Poke bowl and had a good selection and price was reasonable. Another visit today, 10/31/2022 Halloween.... My father and I had dinner tonight at Kampai. I have only ordered to go with the Poke Bowl. My father had the teriyaki chicken (sorry no pics) but he enjoyed it. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen which was very delicious. The broth was very tasty and pork, bamboo shoots and veggies were very very good. I would definitely give this place a TRY...

Lakers vs Golden State on the TV. Yummy sushi, relaxed happy atmosphere, great service and fun sushi chefs!! Recommend Rock-N Roll cucumber wrapped sushi. Today the IPA on tap is Elysian Space Dust, one of my favorites!! So happy right now.! 💙🧡💙🧡

Best Sushi experience of my life, amazing plating and taste, so much for everyone and not expensive as most would be, been going almost every Friday, "too much is a bad thing" very untrue for this restaurant, a place you can keep coming back to for sure, if you love sushi its a must.

Where is the 6 star button? Service was great but the sushi? It was so, so good. The presentation screams attention to detail. And the prices? Extremely competitive.

Service was good, hence the 4 stars. Food is average. The cook forgot to add salt in my Ramen. The egg was not soft boiled had no flavor. Pork was stringy and old. I'd skip the ramen and order something that they can't messed up on e.g. something deep fried. The sushi rice in tuna my roll was a little too sour for my taste.

Great presentation but one of my rolls was supposed to have baked scallops and they were completely raw and cold.

Sashimi was not terribly fresh, the quality of fish was a 6 out of 10. some came nearly frozen. Very barely average sushi … whoever is rating this highly clearly has never had good sushi. Rolls - ok … service was very good actually Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place.

Honestly, very disappointing! The people there didn’t put together the whole to go order not mentioned anything when it was being picked up. Flavor is good that’s why I gave them 2 stars. The chicken for the teriyaki tastes literally like the rotisserie chicken from the supermarket. And the rolls… I understand they want to save containers, but they put the two rolls in the same container, covered in an exaggerated amount of fried stuff and there was no way to know what roll was each one. A huge piece of garlic hidden between rolls and wasabi all over one off my rolls. Very very disappointing

If you want water here, prepare to pay for Costco bottled water. I leave my dinner feeling bummed I’m creating plastic waste and feeling stupid for buying Costco water at a sushi restaurant.

So when we discovered this restaurant back in November of 2023 it was pretty awesome. Their salmon sashimi was so fresh with distinctive fat veins and no fish smell. They had these two Japanese waitresses that were actually from Japan. I felt like it was so culturally authentic... these waitresses taught me how to eat sushi. Alas... fast forward to today August 30, 2024... both Japanese waitresses don't work there anymore, and the salmon sashimi is not good... smells fishy and no distinctive fat veins... like its old fish. I would advise them to pay more to get authentic Japanese employees because it's what we liked about this restaurant. We are weekly regulars but will be in search of another sushi restaurant until you bring back your Japanese waitresses and improve your fish.

The food was really good, but the waitresses behaved rudely because I wanted to leave a tip in cash and not load it on my card and the truth is that they didn't attend us well. They demanded without giving a good service, but the cooks were friendly.

The Karaage in the kids set was like spare pieces of the chicken and also over cooked. The sushi was tolerable for US standards and the best part of the meal. However the rice to meat ratio was disproportionate and made it hard to eat. Some people may like this because there was less rice and it seems like you are getting a good deal. But it was messy and not to proper sushi expectations.

The food was alright, I had gotten the chicken karaage bento box and it was pretty mid, the customer service was awful, the Asian lady there was rude and constantly attacked us verbally when we clearly didn’t receive the food that we ordered, extremely unprofessional and do not recommend going if you like to be berated for not receiving the correct order. My friend who was with me was even surprised as they had never done this before on his previous visits. The other staff was pretty good and attentive but the Asian lady ruined everything. The soups were cold and they willingly gave us the correct order while saying “I know you ordered it without this but we still added it”.
