Super fresh and authentic. Glad we came! I enjoy vegan style breakfasts and my spouse enjoys traditional with eggs and cheese. We were both happy and got what we wanted. Amazing Mexican flavor and really great beans.

This is a great vegan lunch spot and market. The food is all natural and of high quality. There's indoor and outdoor seating. They serve vegan pizza in the evenings, which is terrific. How do they get that almond cheese to be so melty and stringy? I highly recommend it.

This place has a chill family and dog friendly atmosphere. Had the vegan taquitos which were crunchy and delicious. Probably got an odd batch, but would like their cesar salad to have crunchy croutons, mine were soggy. This is also a mini mart which was beautifully organized and items are ethically sourced. In the future I hope they expand the vegan menu further!

Came here on Memorial Day weekend with my family. Was worried about crowds but line wasn’t too bad and was able to find parking. Food was extremely fresh and tasty and reasonably priced! Highly recommended!

For organic and fresh it is fantastic! Best tortilla on the breakfast burrito that I've ever had and I've eaten tons of tortillas in my life. Have that burrito at least once and your taste buds will thank you! Orange cream juice was divine too!

This place is incredibly special. If you’re there for taco Tuesday, they make the best in-house corn tortillas. All the love to the people who work there

Delicious pizza on Sunday. Maybe Sourdough crust? My friend ordered a veggie bowl that was terrific. I'll be ordering that next time. All ingredients are fresh and (I think) local. Heh, from the farmer. Actually, yes, the owners have a farm in town that supplies ingredients for the restaurant and store. In fact the Sunday we went the owner was sharing around a plate of watermelon for customers. This is an order in the small store counter and they bring your order out to you. All vegetarian! Thoughtfully and lovingly prepared. The Sunday we went, there was live music. That's not an all the time thing. Musician was a solo singer. Maybe her own music? Nice background for a Sunday late afternoon meal on the patio (they extended tables into the parking lot just for these spacial pizza Sundays. )

The huraches are a must try! In a cute small town near Santa Barbara. They source from organic farms.

We drive all the way from LA just to have a taste of this place! Not only do we come for the food, but especially the smoothies! Make sure to come before 4:30 though because we made the mistake of coming after and the smoothie bar was closed already. We also really like the simple salad bar. Also, might as well grab some of that fresh, fresh produce while you're here. Got some of the most delicious beets, romaine lettuce, and shiitake mushrooms from here. They also have random seasonal veggies like Armenian cucumber. Can't have enough of this place.

Great local place - devoured the strawberries and tomatoes we bought there. Their smoothies are inspiring me to new heights with my own smoothie making!

Weird that the map description says the food is Mexican. They do have Mexican dishes, but it wouldn't win over local authentic fare. I still highly recommend this place for fresh, healthy dining and organic, locally produced groceries. The vibe is chill, service is friendly.

Went twice during my stay in ojai. For lunch and for breakfast the next day. Didn't disappoint. Super friendly staff and the food is amazing. The baby fruit trees in the adjacent patio add lots of charm.

Worthy of the great reputation. The seating is all outdoors but there is tons of shade. Food was mostly vegan with some dairy cheese options. The food held up to big city vegan food standards for sure!

A local health food restaurant and market in Miner's Oaks near the town in Ojai. All the produce is organic and grown on the premises. They also make cookies that are healthier and scrumptious. My favorite is the Molasses Ginger cookie. Chewy and full of cinnamon, clove and ginger spices. It's worth going there just for the desserts and organic vegetables and fruits. While you're doing grocery shopping, sit down and enjoy their Mexican restaurant on the premises. Farmer and the Cook is the hidden gem of this small town. While you visit Miner's Oaks, stop by the local meat market, which has their own cattle which is grass fed and organic. Also, they have their own local honey and beef jerky. It's fabulous!

Incredible vegan food. I got their classic burrito and I’m going to have to go back there soon. Soooo good. Their vegan oatmeal raisin cookie was also perfect.

Staff has some pretty girls working there too in case you're straight like me, Lmao, being that thisnis California an well u kno..lol. So yeah there's also many organic options for beer and drinks as much as the food is as well. Very health conscious cooks, which is great!

I am a faith, healer, and I was living in Oxnard when I was introduced to Ojai. My sister had lived in California a lot longer than me and knew of Ojai and I was a new beginning person trying to find a place to find a healing place to settle my roots. When we both arrived, we both ordered a piece of quiche. Unless I’m in France, I don’t want to try anyone’s quiche however I did try. It was absolutely unbelievable. Now that I live on the East Coast and cannot get back to California on a regular basis I asked the owner if she would be willing to give me the recipe if I sent her a famous cookbook from Charleston, South Carolina, which is superb. She was so sweet and obliged and gave me the recipe so now I am in North Carolina or Virginia or Washington DC Maryland or Florida or sometimes Georgia and I can make this wonderful quiche. Thank you so much. It takes a village. I love you to pieces. You are one of the best places I’ve ever visited. I appreciate you and I hope you appreciate the cookbook I sent back. Love you more bye-bye.

Unbelievable food. Feels like the best home cooked meal you ever had. Can't wait to go back for more! Try the home made got sauce, you won't be disappointed!

A MUST! we come here every time we visit Ojai. The food is fantastic. It tastes fresh and is bursting with flavor. Some of our faves are mushroom goat cheese tacos, breakftast burrito, avocado toast with chickpeas. Oh the pizzas are really great too. They have plenty of gluten free, vegan options in both the savory dishes and sweets. I cancelled my reservation at an expensive restaurant in town to go to this place one last time before we left town.

Great coffee on our bike rides. We love ojai for its scenic views and bike path. We travel to different spots for coffee & this is a very nice stop. Although we haven't had a meal here, everything coming out of the kitchen smells wonderful.

We visited on a weekday morning in January. It's a walk-up. It was steadily busy but not overcrowded. There is lots of seating, half in and half outdoor. I imagine it's very busy in Summer. I'm not a vegetarian so I was skeptical when we looked at the menu and discovered it was a vegetarian place. We had the egg burrito which was very good. It came with a tasty (spicy) salsa on the side. They cut it in half for us. We also had a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin which was good. The coffee was great. Needed some music in the eating area... you know when you have to talk quietly because everyone in the room can hear your conversation? Overall it was a good breakfast stop. Friendly. Satisfying.

Today was our first time here and we will definitely be back! Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch - we shared the taquitos and huarache. Both meals were delicious and the perfect portions. It was pretty chill when we came - no line and open seating available. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance.

This place delivers. We had lunch there. I got the vegetable tacos with goat cheese and he got a giant burrito (vegan). For only part time vegans, this place was amazing. It didn't taste like health food at all. Indulgent but you left feeling good and not gross. It's in a cute little building filled with local produce and stuff but the highlights are the food. Also got a green smoothie. It was very good and we both felt the pricing was fair. My only critique is that the homemade tortillas are a bit clunky and fall apart, but it wasn't worth losing a star over. Run, don't walk here, and order some seriously good food!

Where do we begin? Delicious (especially sesame rose and birdseed thumbprint) cookies, chocolate chia pudding and snickers bites. Swiss chard enchiladas good, fresh corn tamales outstanding (perfect combination) with Caesar salad yet! The pizza chef is an artist…orange pistachio pizza is a taste delight. Wonderful iced matcha latte. Would like to extend trip to savor more 👍🏻

It’s an amazing place. Great food, greater people. You can feel the love and care in their food. Their passion and serving this community for more than 20 years. It’s one of the favorites at Ojai,CA. Experience the farm feeling sitting outside in the garden area, gets you as close as possible to Farmer&Cook. Garden Burger this time was phenomenal- patty was delicious, light, flavorful - must try

Super cute spot! Went for breakfast for the first time this week and it was so good we returned for dinner! Classic California vibes with whole, locally grown fare, fresh, healthy and delicious! We had smoothies, lattes, baked goods, tacos and the veggie burger and everything was soooo good. Loved eating in the side yard under the trees, kids and dogs running around. Perfect cafe 100/10

My husband and I stayed in Meiners Oaks for a couple nights of our anniversary trip and we kept returning to The Farmer and the Cook for their incredible food and magical atmosphere. The caprese salad was INSPIRED and paired perfectly with the amazing potato pizza. Breakfast was a true treat with the best avocado toast I've ever had and a honey lavender CBD latte that I'm so sad I can't get back home. We'll always remember this special place and hope we're lucky enough to get back someday.

This place is AMAZING!! Their raw vegan tacos are the absolute best!! Wouldn’t change a single thing! So satisfying, flavorful, healthy, beautiful, and delicious. We are in love. I hope they never take these off the menu, we are always coming here for our raw vegan tacos! Our daughter got the kids burrito (vegan style) and she loved it as well! Ate the whole thing. Their beans and rice are equally amazing. Love the spices they use here and the overall quality of the their food. Always fresh :) so happy

We loved this place! My mum is quite hard to please on the food front, and in all fairness, vegetarian food can be quite redundant. Not here! The flavors were marvelous, the meals creative, and the outdoor seating was beautiful. I wish I lived closer to eat here every week.

If you visit Ojai, this is a must stop /experience. Farmer and the Cook are the gem and the jewel of Ojai and Meiners Oaks. Phenomenal food and some of the most healthy vegetables and fruits in all the land! The Farmer’s connection to the food and the Earth is palpable on the tongue. The Cook’s touch on all of the menu items is wildly delicious perfection! Thank you for being our rock.

I consider myself a full time carnivore, and came here with little expectattions. Much of my surprise, the veggie burger packs a punch of flavor and textures to delight the senses, and the "bun" is a homemade seeded bread. The burger also comes with a delicious side salad. Who knew vegetarian Mexican could taste so good!!

As another reviewer said, food is not exceptionally flavourful, but just good food. Their market is what makes them a great location, and their smoothies were nice and hearty (Scarrot Cake! Lucuma Puma was delicious too). All of their produce is local & organic, fairly priced.

Best fresh healthy organic gourmet food! Beautiful baked goods and freshly prepared gourmet vegetarian mex meals. This is my go-to for fresh cooked meals, I go almost daily and they have never failed. Most of the staff is awesome, sincere, helpful & friendly. Cute patio & fresh organic local grown produce always available! They close kind of early on weekdays so you have to plan to pick up your dinner early. (I wish they were open later on weekdays) but they are open later on the weekends. Sadly, They closed their soup bar & self serve maple syrup due to covid. I'm hoping they will bring it back asap! Overall I love what they offer to the community! 😉 Truly none better!

The Farmer and The Cook is a great little spot and well worth the trip. I stopped by as part of the Ventura Vegan Chef Challenge and was pleasantly surprised by how much bigger the space is than I thought. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, plus a really cute market area with some inviting choices to take home. They have freshly baked bread and a pastry counter. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. I tried two of the Ventura vegan chef challenge dishes. The cauliflower tamal was my favorite — comforting, flavorful, and tasted like a proper tamal without trying to be anything else. The veggie meatballs weren’t my personal favorite, but I’m glad I tried them and appreciated the care that went into the dish. Service was counter-style and very friendly. Everyone was welcoming and helpful, and the overall experience felt easy and enjoyable. I’d definitely like to go back and dine in next time. A solid stop with good food, a nice atmosphere, and thoughtful vegan options.

Our family sought out Farmer and the Cook because of the Vegan Chef Challenge, in particular we were excited to try what the chef created and offered for the challenge! We were not disappointed, we loved the Veggie Meat Balls as well as the Cauliflower Tamal! So much so we drove back (a 40 minute drive) just to have these dishes again! We would be thrilled if they kept these delicious dishes on their menu after the challenge, but we will definitely be back again to try their regular dishes too! The food is so fresh and flavorful and the service fast and kind! We loved the casual, relaxed, clean patio seating as well! Thank you Farmer and the Cook, we are fans!

My wife and I came here on a Saturday morning around 9 AM and there was barely any line. There was plenty of parking in the free parking lot. We also were able to get a table indoors and eat our meal. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito and it was super good. It even had some zucchini at which I thought was super creative. I ordered the açai bowl without banana and really enjoyed it. It had fresh strawberries and blueberries on it. My wife also had this golden latte and she really enjoyed it. I grabbed a decaf Americano. I really liked this option.

This place has the best vibe. The atmosphere is welcoming, cozy and strikes a balance between feeling like you're at a restaurant and somewhere having a picnic because there's seating outside in the trees if you like. We sat outside but close to the restaurant itself. There is indoor seating. There were many people from all walks of life enjoying lunch when we went. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly and helpful. We ordered the Traditional Burrito which went too fast for me to grab a picture, and also the Farmer's Plate with cashew cheese instead of Jack, and added avocado (for an extra $2). It also came with beans, rice, pico de gallo, pickled cabbage and two corn tortillas on the side. Everything was delicious. We will be back!

The name alone sounds so cozy, but they did not fail to deliver on all levels. There's a beautiful back area in the grass under the trees where you can eat outside. Every staff member is kind and goes above and beyond to help you. I came to visit from LA and wanted to buy a few items that had to stay refrigerated. They let me keep them in their fridge all day and then gave me a box of ice to take with me. And the food? Fantastic. Whether you're vegetarian or vegan or gluten-free, there are delicious options for you, with much of their produce coming directly from their own farm! I realized I didn't take pictures of the main courses so these photos don't do it justice, but I highly recommend the taquitos, the huaracha, and the enchilada. Highly recommended.

Great organic market and restaurant with good vibes. We went for pizza night, which is 4 days of the week from Thursday to Sunday. We tried Orange Pizza and Margherita Pizza. Both the pizzas were very good. Especially Orange one was exceptional. There is indoor as well as outdoor sitting. Many Mexican vegetarian dishes are on the menu. Espresso bar was closed in the evening. Everything is organic. And I guess all the menu is vegetarian..

10/10 place to enjoy tasty organic foods! I ordered the matcha mochi with the sweet help of the employees, helping me decide which one to choose based on which was sweeter. so I ended up buying the strawberry rose one too! I regret not buying any of their desserts cause my eyes and mouth were both watering at the sight of them… 🤤🤤

The desserts were to die for all of them 😀. There was a life music and not much seats left with the heaters in the outdoor area so we went inside. The desserts were to die for all of them 😀. There was a life music and not much seats left with the heaters in the outdoor area so we went inside. It was cozy and quiet enough for having a conversation. I am definitely going to come back. Thank you so much. I wish i would take a pic of our pizza but we literally devoured it 😇

Take this review with a grain of salt, as I am neither vegan nor vegetarian. The outdoor patio is what made the experience so great for me. The patio is massive and tastefully designed. The market inside is pretty cool, just expensive. I actually enjoyed all of the food I ate, but just felt unsatisfied (once again, I have no special dietary requirements.) And while I say I was unsatisfied, I don’t see you can make a better all veggie taco. My main issue with my visit was how long it took for the food to arrive. My food arrived 30-40 min after I ordered, which was much longer than I had expected. If I was with someone who really wanted to eat here, I would defiantly come back to try a new dish.

I get takeout from here about once a week and really enjoy the food. The gordita lunch and betterfinger smoothie are some of my favorites. They also have a nice outdoor patio that's pet friendly. The online ordering experience is a little inconsistent and I hope they might be able to adjust it in the future (online menu is outdated, phone doesn't get answered, inconsistency receiving a confirmation text when order is ready, drink order might be forgotten about when ordering food, etc). But overall I really like the food and will keep coming back.

Love the all organic food served here although there isn’t a wide selection. They also serve homemade spelt bread and pastries, homemade soups and a great salad bar. Very casual and it has a small organic grocery store. There’s outdoor seating for the warm pleasant days we have here. It’s just great to know that every morsel of food is organic and mostly vegan.

They have Mexican style vegan food here. I had an enchilada stuffed with Swiss chard, zucchini and red onion topped with red sauce and cheese. Delicious! There is also a mini grocery with fruit, veggies and homemade bread with seeds and a variety of flours. Also sourdough. The eating area was very casual and guests cleared their own dishes. Our table needed a better wipe down and we cleared the glasses that were left on our table.

We enjoyed the outdoor seating. Food was tasty but the side dishes were almost the same. The produce is said to be of quality. I have not yet tried it. There’s descent variety and loose packing of grains and nuts.

(Updated). Have since been back and the food and service were much better...I rarely write reviews unless I have a positive experience somewhere. However, in this case I think the owners should know how bad it was. The only reason I'm rating this restaurant/café 2 stars is that the burrito my Dad had was decent. I ordered a tamale plate and it looked ok on the outside, but when I actually tried it, the corn was very mushy and the inside vegetables were tasteless. I'm not sure if it was undercooked or overcooked. But it was literally the worst tamale I've ever had, hands down. I believe I paid $10-12 for one tamale. I've had street tamales for 3 bucks that were a million times better. I could've lived with one item on the menu being bad, or maybe the cook was having a rough day. My real issue was with the customer service (or lack thereof). When I told the girl taking orders that it wasn't good, she couldn't have cared less. She didn't apologize or offer to remake it or ask if I wanted something else. Because the corn outer casing (i.e the tamale) was inedible, I calmly asked if she could give me a couple of corn tortillas to at least help finish the vegetable filling and have some semblance of a meal. Which she did manage to do, after charging me for them!

Really good vegan food and smoothies and a pretty great “Minds Eye Chai latte”. Service was a little slow though.

Lovely location with so many great food options. I had the açaí bowl which was a bit too sugary for me, but it was colorful!

I walked in and automatically knew I loved the place because first impression: community fliers all in front window on patio with local events, coming in the door (all the locals seem ready to hold the door open for people !) fresh gorgeous healthy clean produce, SOOO MANY organic pantry items unique and high quality. Purchasing a breakfast burrito it was hot! with steaming hot salsa. It was so good!! Love the vegan options. Delicious vegan & gluten free pastries. Clean. Communal. Welcoming. Only visiting from Los Angeles but I’ll probably be back before my trip is over.

I would love to write a better review because the pizza and soups here are absolutely fantastic!!! Everything I tried was great, a definite 5 out of 5. However, came here twice and both times they literally were unable to fulfill over half of the stuff we wanted to order (came in at noon and 4 pm on Fri/Sat) even though it was on the menu. Would come back for the pizza.

We ordered the Egg burrito, with zucchini, onions, Jack cheese. Very delicious and served warm. The menu for breakfast is limited, more variety for lunch. Nice outdoor patio.

The atmosphere is good, there are always a lot of visitors with dogs. Good selection of organic goods. Service - as luck would have it. Sometimes you are greeted with smiles, sometimes you are deliberately ignored. The food is ordinary, for vegans - the menu is good. The waiting time for a smoothie sometimes exceeds 20-30 minutes. No desire to return yet

Real farm to table place here. Clean organic food. Fast, friendly exceptional service. The have a spice wall here where you can purchase a wide variety off unique spices. Small market inside with kombucha.

Super flavorful vegetarian and vegan food with a Mexican theme. Tacos, tostadas, burritos with incredible vegetable combinations and sauces. It’s also a healthy food market with fresh produce. Great place!

I wish they had their egg/tofu dishes go past 12p on a Sunday. With my dietary restrictions there were a few items that I love but could not indulge in due to health dietary restrictions. I’ll be back early the next time.

I like the food; there are healthy and tasty choices. Last time I was there I ordered a smoothie and waited at least thirty minutes. No one checked in with me. They need to work on communication with their customers. If they are experiencing an unusually busy period, they need to warn people and give them the option to opt out before making a purchase, especially for a smoothie which people are expecting to be a quick pick up. It also wouldn't hurt for cashiers who stand in front of a long line of waiting patrons but cannot help any customers, to acknowledge the people waiting.

Fun vibe, portions were small as expected from a health food restaurant. Food was decent. Service was a bit slow. Took about 25 minutes to get a smoothie made and they were not that busy.

Not the best, not the worst. The salad bar was nicely stocked, and I enjoyed the plate I made. The vegetables were fresh and delicious. Our cooked dishes looked nice, and tasted all right, but weren't memorable. I have to say, when I walked in the place had a garbage odor, which might be from composting, but it certainly taints the whole experience. All of the signs are hand-written in a way that isn't folksy, but chaotic. The whole place suffers from feeling too cluttered, and the messy presentation made me worry a bit about food safety. The best part was the outdoor seating on a warm, sunny day. Lots of interesting characters make their way in and out of the restaurant and store, and it's a good place to people watch.

Well, the main cashier made me uncomfortable. Harsh vibes emanating from her—mean look, disingenuous tone. Def a "different" place....Diff people from Ventura. I know I'm gender diverse, but I still expect friendly customer service. Cashier said they were out of earl grey tea, but I could have assam, so I got excited as I love that kind. She then served English breakfast instead, which I hate and didn't ask for, but I wasn't mean about this. I went to a diff girl I thought may be nicer and told her my issue. She went to the cashier and came back and said I was given the correct tea, but I had to let her know I can taste and smell EB.... The girls all did a bizzare group like huddle, which was a little odd bc obviously you should correct and own your mistakes and give customers what they ordered, not disagree with them. It's only a cup of tea but I'm serious: I don't like English breakfast. Manager came over once I suggested a refund bc I didn't want to be a bother and was truly kind. She offered me to smell some tea leaves from containers and I went with a diff option. She brought it to my table. My cauliflower burrito tasted delicious, I was impressed. I could eat only half, it was heavier food. I think adding tofu would be helpful. I might go back when espresso is back. Someone recommended this place so I thought I'd try. I would want to come back with a friend only.

If you order a burrito make sure its good before you start eating it. Half the time they are very small and its mostly tortilla. Its very disappointing when it happens and as a local I wish they were more consistent.

The good: the food was really tasty. The bad: service was REALLY slow and simple questions were very challenging for staff. Four of us all ordered meals with avocado: one was informed after we paid they were out. She changed order... To something half the price - but the price wasn't adjusted. The rest of us didn't realize it till the food came out. It still tasted great, but wasn't the same. This used to be one of my go to places but haven't been for almost a year. It was very disappointing. Hoping it was a one off day

Way over-hyped, and there are good reasons why they’ve been shut down by the county in the past, due to sanitation issues. Buyer beware 🤮

The 3 Fish (mushroom) tacos contained about 1 medium size mushroom and about 2 full cups of fried breading. Felt like a waste of $ and time. Cool li'l food market and pleasant friendly staff.

But a oatmeal walnut chocolate chip cookie, I realized it had coconut in it. When I took it back. They tried to tell me there was no coconut. Just had coconut oil and failed to realize how not disclosing that is a huge safety hazard for people who are allergic to coconut even take a place like this would be Michael of that.

Ate here many times today the rolled taco was extremely over done and horrible compared to past times I've ate here and loved this specific dish. Just gross and horrible that they serve food that is practically inedible. Also the premade rice roll was HORRIBLE. I am choosing to not waste my money here and get ripped off anymore. Super sad because this was a favorite restaurant of mine.

I called the store and asked the employee what oil they use to cook in, he told me that you use canola oil. Either you are lying to your customers or ur employees are misinformed. I would like to know the truth. I thought this place was fine until I found out that they use seed oil, specifically canola oil, to cook their “organic” food. It’s a shame. I wish they disclosed this type of harmful information before I unfortunately ate here several times. And not to mention, they’re always out of their smoothies, juices, and coffee. If they switch to using a healthy cooking oil such as beef tallow or avocado then I would support this restaurant.

Place is just plain nasty. Has failed multiple health department inspections and was closed down by the county. Do better.
