This is a great example of a well managed restaurant. I wish there were more like this! It starts immediately when you walk in and notice the pleasantly elegant yet understated decor. The tables, the glass and silverware are all beautiful. The service is prompt and exceptionally professional. There is an interesting original cocktail menu and a decent wine selection. The menu is concise and creative, balancing traditional offerings with new ideas. Our table tried a variety of the offerings from the salmon to the schnitzel. It was all good! The smaller size menu still has enough variety for everyone to find something they like. The desert options are also quite tasty. If you're looking for elegant European food in a lovely setting you must attend! Reservations recommended.
Excellent place and food, I had the Schnitzel and loved it. So far the best Schnitzel I have had in a Restaurant in Southern California, besides making my own Schnitzel 😎
I enjoy the majority of the restaurants in Palm Springs but have been looking forward to visiting Johannes for some time. I finally had some friends from out of town and we were able to get reservations. Johannes is by far a step above the other restaurants and worth every penny! The service is spot on. The server explained in detail a delightful variety of specials for the day along with information about any dish we asked about. She memorized everything we ordered and came back with everything perfect! The food was incredibly pleasing to the eye, stunningly full portions, that were equally incredibly delicious! We shared escargot for an appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. Both excellent! I will be frequenting Johannes much more often, even if it's just me eating at the bar. All the food is impeccable. There is an extensive schnitzel menu that has only compared to my favorite restaurants in Munich. You won't be disappointed with this place!!
Reservation process was simple. Called left message, got a prompt call back shortly after 3pm. Great wine and cocktail menu. Started with the meatballs in curry sauce and the seafood cocktail. Main course, I had the Pork Medallions My Way with apples, pees, gnocchi and a small side of spetzel. Service was good, food was good. Would definitely come back.
Hands down the best restaurant in Palm Springs. The service was friendly yet efficient, the mussels were the best I've ever had in my life, and the peppercorn schnitzel is a must. Will return. Definitely add this to your list!
My wife & I made a reservation at Johannes for our 5th Wedding Anniversary, during our trip to Palm Springs. EVERYTHING WAS OUTSTANDING FOR US! The atmosphere and service was above & beyond, and the food top-notch, delicious & delectable. We ordered the Escargot and Cheese Spätzeln for apps, the Halibut special & Lamb Rack for entrees, and Crème Brûlée for desert. As far as fine dining goes, the price was very reasonable, as well. I cannot speak higher of our experience. A perfect Anniversary dinner!
Stunning! I have walked by, always saying "I'm going to go in there one day" whenever we are out on arenas and in the area. This week I finally made it, around 7:40, in time before I closed at 9:00. We didn't have a reservation, luckily it was a not too busy night. The host was humorous and professional, suggesting he may be able to find us a table without reservation, (there were plenty. The restaurant is surprisingly large inside. Very well decorated, purse hooks, gourmet style plates, utensil service change in between courses, wine glasses and water goblets. Very European, very upscale, very traditional, but not pretentious. Try the green stuff! It's delicious! I believe they called it a moose, but it was an herb blend: basil sprouts, mint etc... like an updated and delicious pesto. It went wonderful with the bread, and butter. Totally worth the cost of adding bread for the table. We also got the tuna avocado tartar. Good sized appetizer, great texture and taste. Loved the crispy chip that comes with it, the plate is dressed with sushi style sauces that work wonderfully. My friend had the salmon entre, large portion, looked amazing. He devoured it, so I'm sure it was tasty. I had the curry tiger shrimp plate. Omg, The spice of the curry, the sweet of the coconut milk, the fresh snap of the baby corn and green beans 🤌 generous, delicious and large shrimp. Will definitely be back for friends dinner, special group event, or a upscale but chill romantic location.
Haven't been here for quite a while...it was a very pleasant and delicious evening. Beth our server was delightful and very attentive! I highly recommend the Sezarac cocktail if you like whiskey. It is made with Bullet Rye, absinthe, Peychaud's bitters, sugar cube and a lemon twist. Kind of a modified sidecar that has been around since the mid 1800's. Delightful!! My husband had the Texas onion soup...OMG.. velvety and delicious. I had the radicchio salad with toasted hazelnuts, feta, dates, arugula and pear. Yummy!! Truly the soup and salad could be your meal... But gluttons that we are we both ordered veal schnitzels. His was a traditional one with capers and lemon. Mine was Jager style with mushrooms, red wine sauce, bacon and crispy onions. Both were served with cranberry sauce and creamy cucumber salad. We were too full for dessert but I think it is absolutely brilliant that they have a 'sample' plate of three bite size portions of their most popular desserts for those who want a little sweet something something without having to order a big dessert. We will definitely be back!
was there for a quick drink. very classy vibes!
Ambiance was MUCH better than it looked from outside. Service was top notch and the food was absolutely incredible. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the curry sauce, with the meatball appetizer was maybe the highlight. Everything was just incredible and I highly recommend it.

Excellent place. Good atmosphere and great service! Nice crafted cocktails. Wonderful food, extensive menu. Definitely one of the best places in PS!!
Nice spot in downtown Palm Springs with some traditional dishes with a creative twist. Delicious salads and excellent schnitzels. Decent wine list and cocktails. Friendly service and great atmosphere.
Recommended warmly by friends who spend a lot of time in Palm Springs. My husband, my parents, and I all loved the food (the Jägerschnitzel was succulent!) as well as the superb cocktails (the Au Pear and Bee's Knees, especially). Patio seating was roomy, comfy, and gave a great sense of the surrounding neighborhood. Daniel, the host, was very understanding about our being slightly delayed by traffic, and he was pleasant and funny throughout. The one blemish was not enough to ruin a tasty and wonderful night for my family, but it must be said that Mark fell down badly on the job as our waiter — which was true for every other table near us, with all of us expressing bewilderment to each other that Mark was so inattentive, so forgetful (he forgot our drink orders, forgot to read us the dinner specials, and forgot our dessert order), and pretty clearly uninterested in the job. That was too bad, since he made a friendly and charming first impression before totally bailing on our whole area. The host eventually had to be recruited to take our orders. But truly: the food was extraordinary, even to people who've lived in Germany and know what a great Schnitzel is supposed to taste like. The meal will cost you, but you know that going in, and it was all well worth the price!
Top not h from start to finish. The host was courteous and was gracious in giving us a table switch. Mark and his assistant Ariel were polite, friendly and efficient. The cocktails and food were delicious and served promptly. They accommodated about request for some green vegetables and the spaetzle, spinach, lamb chops an schnitzel were excellent. We could not have been any happier with the food or the service.
Nice spot in downtown Palm Springs with some traditional dishes with a creative twist. Delicious salads and excellent schnitzels. Decent wine list and cocktails. Friendly service and great atmosphere.
It's becoming more and more important where we all spend our restaurant dollars. The food here is hearty without being overwhelming and is presented in a attractive style. Service is top notch and atmosphere is casual elegant. Enjoyed my meal and the delicious dessert.
Schnitzel time! Weather a schnitzel lover or occasional fan, Johannes has what you are looking for to please your crave for schnitzels! And don’t forget to indulge your sweet tooth with an apple strudel. Nice ambience and superb customer service! Parking can be a bit challenging depending on the day and time, plan accordingly.

Lyle is the star of this restaurant. His service is stellar. Hubby enjoyed the schnitzel - crisp and juicy. My pork chop was slightly undercooked, mashed potato and broccoli - delicious. Busy on a Wednesday evening, we arrived without reservation was told we only had 75 minutes before the table needed to be turned. Would have ordered more, just to hang with Lyle. Maybe another time.

Johannes has the trendy Palm Springs atmosphere one would expect when visiting the downtown area. We were seated near the kitchen, not in the dining room, and that may have skewed my review a bit. I felt that the service was on point, the food was okay, but it was very noisy where we were seated. All in all, I felt it was overpriced. I had the caper lemon schnitzel which was fair, but because of the price point, it wasn’t wonderful. There is no way it should be a $44 dinner plate. Probably not a restaurant I would choose to return to with all the other options in town.
Our first time here. The place was well decorated with all the right touches. It was a small place but felt big because of character and ambience. The waitress was not nice and ignored us to the point even the bus boy noticed and started to help by asking her to go to the table. When our food arrived it was overcooked most likely sitting under heat lamps too long. The price was overpriced and we would not go back again.

Maybe it just wasn't our place. The pitch from the server made me think we were about to eat michelin star quality food. It started out great with the appetizer but my main dish was raw in the center. I like things on the undercooked side so normally this wouldn't have bothered me but this was too raw. It was plated beautifully but the the flavor was just average in my opinion. Add in the fact it was very undercooked and I would say we won't be back. Shame, I really wanted to like this place. I should also mention my wife ordered a salad with salmon which turned out to be raw salmon. Perfectly acceptable if you know that but the server neglected to mention it was raw. Ask questions or you might get something other than what you're expecting.

So disappointed with our dinner here. The service was very slow, it took Mary 35-40 mins to take our dinner order, she was very abrupt with our table to the point of being a little rude. I started with the mushroom soup which was very underwhelming. For my entree I ordered the special, the Hawaiian Ono, the fish was very overcooked and so bland I had to ask for salt. I was really looking to this dinner and left hungry and frustrated with such an expensive poor dining experience. I don’t get the good reviews.

There are so many other great gems in Palm Springs other than Johannes. The service is poor. The food is lackluster. The schnitzel was ok, but didn't make up for the poor service and the bone dry swordfish. We had to ask for water, bread and basics like salt/pepper, multiple times.
