Extensive menu of traditional foods. I enjoyed my liver and onions. Hubs had chili and caesar salad. Garlic parmesan wings were crisp and juicy.

Gristmill has always been one of my favorite stops when I am heading north on 81. Service was good. And all the interior is nothing fancy. It is good food with working people.

Stopped in as they have all day breakfast available and it was noon. It is large with plenty of seating most of the time (Saturday and Sunday are the busiest. I've never had a bad meal here. Prices are very reasonable. They can accommodate the not to hungry up to the big eater. Portions are large. Hard Ice cream is available in the summer. My waitress kept an eye on me without being intrusive. Much appreciated.

Okay, it's after midnight. You get fuel, you hit the restroom, you buy a pre-made sundae in a cup. You drive on. Never change, Gristmill. Update Sept 2019: just a quick note of appreciation to the staff for always mixing plenty of peanut butter and chocolate sauce into their pre-made travel sundaes. Reliable for several years now.

My waitress was Rita, and she was absolutely wonderful. She made sure I had what I needed right from the start. I ordered the open face roast beef sandwich which was phenomenal. Excellent food and Rita is the perfect waitress and made my dining experience absolutely wonderful. Great food and great prices. I highly recommend a visit.

I am a truck driver and I was a desperately in need of a place to park for that night. Not only did they have significantly large parking space but this restaurant is awesome! Delicious food which tastes home-made. Very friendly older staff. Lamps decorated with deer tines. There is a large countertop with cushioned stools, and several booths. Outside the flags of the USA and Canada are flown. At the cash register one can purchase candy, and there is a vending machine for lottery tickets. In the short vestibule is a bulletin board for local notices. In November 2021 the Oswego County Libertarian Party hosted Larry Sharpe at this location during his campaign for New York Governor.

We always stop here for breakfast on our way to Cape Vincent. Food is always delicious and staff is friendly. Plus it is easy on and off the highway.

I stopped in twice on my vacation this week. Had great food and a great experience both times. I had the New York Strip Steak early in the weak and it was amazing. Then this morning i got a deluxe omelet. Cooked to perfection, absolutely no complaints. Food comes out fast and hot. Everything comes in large portions and at a great price, I barley ate both of my meals and I'm a large man.

We came in 20 minutes till close and asked if they were still serving. We were told yes and they sat us. We as quickly as possible ordered our food which was very good. Our waitress was wonderful. We ate as fast as we could they were doing the closing while we ate which was absolutely fine with us and expected. My family went out to the car and I was in the restroom when I heard the cashier complaining about us eating our food apparently that part was a problem for her. I really enjoyed myself right up till that moment. The restaurant itself doesn't deserve a bad review but maybe she learn to not talk bad about customers especially when they can hear you.

Grist Mill is a country home feeling for a little diner the food is fresh always hot the coffee is amazing the price for even two people isn't bad at all I highly recommend Grist Mill for the he traveler who is looking for a country home cooked meal. Fantastic staff. Food is well prepared also. Fantastic! Definitely recommend the open-faced hot roast beef sandwich with fries, smothered and gravy. I have been stopping here for about 50 years at least twice a year and it never changes. The atmosphere is fantastic. The staff are fantastic, friendly, super quick service and they've never had a problem here.

Always great food at reasonable prices and they have a great menu with a little bit of everything (sanwhich/wraps, finger foods/apps, steak, breakfast, etc.) And the food is always good and comes out as asked for. The shakes and desserts aren't half bad either! We like to stop here as a convenient way along the way home. Always recommend this place to travelers.

I love this place! This place will forever hold a place in my heart! I spent two days here in January of 2004 because of a record snow storm that year. They received 47 inches of snow in 37 hours and shut all the roads down. The waitresses and cooks were snowed in with about 10 of us driver's. It was such a pleasure to be stuck here. The food was and still is fantastic! The staff were super friendly. It was like we were all one big family on a winter weekend getaway. If you pass the The Grist Mill you are passing up one of the best gems that New York has to offer! I will always stop here every time I get the chance!!

Our Burgers were done to perfection. The French fries were very good. The only problem we had were the fried mushrooms were not good. But they took them off my bill and I didn't even ask them to do that. All in all we had a great experience there. Our waitress was very pleasant and very attentive.

Large group with a large order. Food was all very good!! A mix up between a Fretta on one end with no mushrooms and a Fretta on the other with mushrooms getting swapped but the waitress was able to fix it by bringing a plate of mushrooms for the mushroomless diner. Good food, decent service. Main issue is that the place is showing its age. It needs either a deep clean or a remodel. My go-tos are the Spaghetti with meatballs (comes with bread and a salad) and the mozzarella sticks. Very conveniently located right off 81 in Parish.

Fine, not too fancy food at reasonable prices. Enjoyed both the Philly (ordered with Swiss instead of American cheese) and the patty melt. Both came with good ridged potato chips. Fries I think were listed as an extra $3.50, which does seem a bit pricey substitution, but I was fine with the chips. And while our Wendy's we had for lunch did include fries and a drink, it was a more expensive meal that was certainly far inferior. So skip the fast food, take a few more minutes and stop here to enjoy your meal. I understand their ice cream is also very popular in the summer. I believe we stopped for ice cream once but that's been years now, so I don't remember any details. Actually, the fact that it's been here for as long as I can remember and I've been driving by here for about 35 years probably tells you all you need to know!

Food was large portions. Served hot and fresh.

I have been coming here for 5 decades, literally. I don't live close, but we pass by here to get to our northern home from any locations south, like to and from Fla, or other places we have lived off and on over the decades. Its a ritual, a family fav. So it has had stretches where the food was great, and some not so much. Today, not so much, I know things are difficult everywhere, but when basic lunches run 40$ for 2, please make it good. Today, coffee was minimally ok, corn chowder had no soul and hard potatoes with chewy bacon bits, bread on sandwich was either frozen before grilled or stale. Quality is important, no matter how long you been there, give it some attention.

I had breakfast here recently and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. The pancakes were dry, the bacon was extremely salty, the sausages were slightly undercooked, and the eggs were very undercooked. I ordered sunny-side up eggs, which I know means the yolk should be runny, but the egg whites weren’t even fully cooked. Overall the meal was disappointing, and I don’t plan on going back.

I had the hamburger veg soup and it was good. Only reason for 3 stars is that I sat at the counter and watched both cooks handle all the food cooked with their bare hands.

I had to edit this review, just came here on a thursday evening and ordered eggs and hash, my hash tasted like spegettios and everything else was extremely blan and had no flavor, I love this place and it bothers me that im writing this as a 3 star, I guess its a hit or miss depending whos cooking. All who would stop in here late night when they were open 24 hours would share in my one star review, it's not for the food quality, that has always been good, it's the 9pm closing time that made me lose ten pounds. Cooking at home is great but not at midnight after at 12 hour shift.

I was served a naked burger and a pickle on a big plate. The green beans were served on the side and were mushy, tasteless and cold. they cost $2.79 and measured about 1/2 cup. I have been served better beans in the school cafeteria. The waitress returned after a few minutes to check on us, I politely asked for the chips that were in the menu description and for some ketchup. The chips and the pickle were very good. We had stopped off the highway for what we hoped would be a quick bite. Dinner took well over an hour and was less than mediocre. My husband ordered fried haddock. His dinner was adequate.

My wife ordered grilled chicken salad. It was decent. I ordered the grilled chicken breast dinner. The Sahara desert in summer is moister than Gristmill's grilled chicken breasts. They were very difficult to cut with a serrated knife, & were so dry I almost choked on a mouthful.

We were looking forward to a classic "greasy spoon". What we got was some of the worst service we've ever received and almost equally bad food. The server barely spoke to us and when she did it was while she was walking by or table. It wasn't that busy but we still waited too long for everything including to pay our bill.
