We stumbled upon this restaurant while wondering in New York. We had a birthday dinner planned elsewhere but had a hunch to just go in here spontaneously, instead. Just WOW! Great atmosphere, the shrimp scampi is to die for, and service is by far the best. Whoever runs this place is truly top tier of their profession! We had such a wonderful experience. It’s the perfect spot for date nights and celebrations. Will be back and would definitely recommend. Thank you for your amazing hospitality!
This restaurant will become a place you suggest to others. The team demonstrated remarkable kindness and problem-solving. All ingredients are fresh and high quality - the food here is like a high end restaurant. We received exceptional attention!! Another meal here is something to look forward to.
Incredible experience. I attended a dinner hosted by The Room, in the basement of this restaurant. Absolutely amazing vibe - chic, chill and sharp. Excellent service, delicious food. I'll definitely have to visit again.
Great place, great staff - or waitress was amazing and made great recommendations. The sea bass was cooked perfectly but underseasoned so a little bitter but impressive nonetheless. Best scampi sauce I've ever had, hands down (appetizer not pictured). Good date place - intimate and not loud. Pricey though.
This restaurant stands among the best. The restaurant had no empty tables on Sunday so we understood. Their servings will fill you up and every dish was tasty. Their kitchen delivers colorful dishes with fresh taste. The standards here impress visitors and local residents alike.
Attentive service pairs with a menu full of tempting dishes. The people working here genuinely improve the experience. Tasty creations arrive with helpful assistance. The group appreciated our variety of shareable plates. The good feedback is accurately reflective.
The food and service is divine. The ladies at the front Tamika and Bobbi are my faves 😍. Andy is an amazing chef who cares about to small details. The langoustine was out of this world!! Everything was simply perfection. A gem in NYC. Perfect for a date night or good time with friends.
Carlos and Ryan our staff were so attentive to us. I came in having a set dish in mind and after Carlos listed the daily specials, my mind was changed. Started off with beef tataki and the dynamite roll. I loved the beef dish so much, I was hesitant. I got the Pacific rim and my date got the ginger drink which was excellent! Carlos recommended the pacific rim and it was so good! As an entree I got the langastino special with pasta and a seafood ragu and with Carlos’s recommendation we got the whole grilled fish snapper edition. Excellent when I tell you it was so good! The dessert of doughnuts and ice creams, coconut passion Dior sorbet, Sicilian pistachio and vanilla was excellent.
This is a great spot for a date, couples evening out or a night with friends. Food is fresh, well prepared with care, and well flavored. Service is excellent and care is taken in every way - if you forget your reading glasses they have extras! What service.
A wonderful spot for dinner and drinks. We didn’t have a rez but were able to walk in and got seated at a cute table by the bar. Started off with drink then ordered some sushi and crispy rice for apps- loved it!! For dinner, we had a lobster roll and halibut. So fresh and delicious! Service was excellent!! Overall loved Oceans!!
From the moment one enters this establishment, you are blown away by the space. The grand dining room is majestic and enormous but somehow feels intimate. Curated artwork surprises you around the dining room. The dining chairs can only be compared to softened butter. The food is INSANE! Starting with the freshest focaccia, the perfectly tender octopus, the house salad, best I have ever had. The highlight though, the fish. By far the freshest most delicious fish I have ever tasted in my life. The presentation of it all will blow your mind! The wine selection is versatile and fairly priced, the dessert selection equally impressive. I’ll save the biggest surprise for you to discover yourself…check out the lavatories before you leave. The attention to detail is over the top. Do not miss the opportunity to dine here on your next visit to NYC Thank you OCEANS
Top notch from start to finish. We are certainly not food or restaurant critics, but we travel a lot, and live to find great places to eat. And this one is near the top of our all time list. First, the drink selections. If you see the two notebooks in the attached photos, that is wine, cocktail, and whisk(e)y selections! You will certainly find your drink there. I'm a whisky guy, so I Ioved seeing a complete scotch selection listed by region. Expensive? Yes, but not the most expensive I have seen, this is an upscale NY restaurant. My wife never calls a cocktail perfect, but she did here with her gin based martini. Next, the food. A wide range of dishes, seafood, sushi, steaks, and more. The Rocket Man Roll with truffle oil sushi roll was worth every penny and has me wanting to go back soon just for that. The Hawaiian Walu and the dry aged bone-in New York Strip were perfect, and the truffle parmesan fries were a tasty addition. We were too full for desert, but we must also mention that Steven was a fantastic server. His knowledge and treatment of us was perfect, and we felt like we should be friends by the time we left. Jorge was also great as well as any other staff we came in contact with. If you want an upscale restaurant with a tasty menu and classy environment, this is a great spot.
I love treating myself to a nice dinner here. The seafood platter is always super fresh, the focaccia bread and oil/butter they serve it with is always the perfect complement. And oh my god, you CANNOT skip the Rocketman roll. It is one of their signature rolls and it is unlike any other sushi roll I’ve ever had. They char the miso glaze atop the roll and it makes for an incredible umami experience. We also ordered a braised lamb casarecce pasta, and that was also extremely flavorful and delicious. I am surprised that one place can make both seafood and meat dishes perfectly. Oceans definitely pulls off their fusion menu extraordinarily well.
I went to Oceans with some friends to celebrate my birthday. The experience was incredible. The service was excellent and the servers were very knowledgeable of the entire menu. When I talk about memorable restaurant experiences, Oceans would be at the top of that list. We had a round of oysters which are able to be ordered by east or west coast oysters. We decided on east coast. The oysters were delicious and a nice starter to our meal. This was accompanied by a rich Chappellet ‘Mountain Cuvée’ 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon that was a delight throughout our entire meal and a great price point compared to some other selections in the menu. Following this we enjoyed the Uni sashimi, spicy tuna roll, dynamite roll, charred Spanish octopus, and Japanese A5 wagyu. When I say we wanted the full experience, I mean it and we got it! For the main course I had the Norwegian Salmon. My friends ordered the Hawaiian Walu and the Nova Scotia Halibut. This was all served with a side of broccolini, and everything was absolutely indescribable. To end off our meal we were offered dessert but we all declined after our full meal; however, to my surprise our wonderful servers brought out some birthday ice cream for me. It was a vanilla ice cream and it was so smooth and creamy. Oceans is top tier and a definite restaurant go-to when thinking of places to dine in NY.
Here is a review of the chefs tasting menu and wine pairing at Oceans in New York City: My wife and I celebrated her birthday with the exceptional chefs tasting menu and exquisite wine pairings at Oceans. From start to finish, it was a night of culinary excellence. We began with beautifully composed opening bites - tuna tartare and black bass crudo - complemented by crisp, refreshing sparklers. The tuna was paired with a delightful Raventós i Blanc rosé that offered delicate red fruits and pastry notes. My crudo sang alongside a mineral-driven Cremant de Savoie. The lobster roe linguine course was a revelation, with the tender, briny pasta impeccably matched by a Sonoma Chardonnay's bright salinity and verve. For our mains, my Scottish salmon arrived perfectly cooked, beautifully plated with lentils, greens, and mushrooms in a lush cream sauce. A Burgundian Pinot Noir provided an aromatic counterpunch of spices and red fruits. My wife's seared scallops were sweet and succulent over an English pea puree, with a Loire Valley Chinon offering vibrant red fruit to accent the gnocchi and brown butter. Desserts did not disappoint - a decadent chocolate tart and sublime pistachio semifreddo complemented by the caramelized notes of an aged tawny port. As a bonus birthday treat, the kitchen sent out a complimentary celebratory cake paired with a luscious Moscato d'Asti. The attentive and knowledgeable service, combined with the artful dishes and pitch-perfect wine pairings, made this an evening to remember at Oceans. An indulgent yet balanced tour de force of flavor from an extraordinary kitchen and cellar.
The inside of this place is just so nice. I love walking in here and the overall vibe. Fish is super fresh and great specials. I enjoy sitting at the bar as well. Recommend!
Excellent seafood restaurant. My boyfriend and I decided to do date night here (first time). The waitress was extremely friendly and service was great. Drinks and wine options were also great. The food was excellent. We started with the Rocketman rolls and oysters, all of which were so fresh and tasty. For the main course, we had the lobster roll with truffle fries and bone-in NY strip, and a lava cake for dessert. It is a pricier spot, but definitely great high quality food, and a large bar for those who just want drinks. *Visited again, and just as wonderful!
Came for restaurant week (3 course dinner for $60 all days except Saturdays). Probably the best restaurant week experience I've had in the city. Definitely should receive more press. Everything was so fresh and perfectly cooked. Would recommend the ceviche (careful it's a bit spicy), the cod (+$15) or salmon and the banoffee pie.
This place is such a gem. The service is absolutely outstanding. Thank you Dorian for an exceptional dinner. The strip steak had such an excellent char on it, and the flavor was amazing. The cod, crab cake, and octopus were also delicious. Definitely recommend the key lime pie for dessert. Thank you for a great birthday dinner!
Oceans offers a sophisticated seafood dining experience in a sleek and modern setting. Located in Union Square, it's known for its fresh, high-quality seafood sourced globally, including sushi and a raw bar. The menu also features Mediterranean influences and options beyond seafood. With a lively atmosphere, it's a popular choice for both locals and tourists.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Exceptional dining experience with friendly, professional and just amazing atmosphere, Oceans is by far the best restaurant I have had the pleasure of dining in. We arrived not long after 7pm, the place had a lovely vibe to it. Met at the door and walked over to our table. Everything was polished, neat and clean. I wasn't sure what to expect but after receiving the menu I was definitely feeling like we had picked the right spot. Fish dishes, meat dishes, veggie and just the best of everything, all in one menu! Our waiter, who apparently worked the bar immediately came to offer water and brought the menus and wine and introduced himself. He promptly made sure our entire evening was world class....but he wasn't the only one. We ordered a seafood platter to start and some of the fresh Sushi.....but before that arrived we admitted that we wanted to make sure we have the wine sorted and enter the sommelier!!! After hearing our personal preferences he just said leave it to me......we started with some Blanc de blanc champers and the rest, as they say, was history. Course after course, the wine was paired perfectly. Following the seafood, then sushi roll we opted for the wagu and some delightful sides, and the wine was perfect. For dessert, we ordered banoffee pie and the cheesecake with a superb pairing of dessert wine......look I'm not going to try to explain everything, because everything was immaculate and perfect. Just go and try, and make sure you ask for some recommendations. My pictures will speak more than I could describe....enjoy and tell them the couple from London sent you! 😜 Ps. We also are at the Italian next door the next after, also owned by the same team, and that was absolutely divine also!
Great for a date night! Came here for restaurant week and the selections were satisfactory. The rolls and ceviche were fresh, the main short ribs and the sauce that paired with it was perfect. My fav was the rigatoni devoured that dish! They decorated one of the dessert plates for my friend bday which was considerate. Loved the whole atmosphere and the chic bathroom in the basement! Also got seated in a table for four so was spacious and got to catch up for longer than we thought they would let us!
Very high end restaurant offering a memorable and sophisticated experience in terms of food, and ambience. Because I was invited and didn’t even see the check, it’s pretty easy to give this place a full rating. One thing that bothered me though was that even though there were some food on the table(little amount of food, but still food), I had to say two or three times to different servers that I wanted them to leave the food there. Eventually I ate everything that would have otherwise been thrown away… The black cod had a bland taste. The halibut with citric dressing was very, very good. As appetizers, octopus and the crab cake are recommended.
One of my favorite seafood restaurants in the city. This has set the standard for what I look for in a restaurant. Beautiful venue with high ceilings and eye catching decor. The bar is lively and comfortable to grab a drink before dinner. Service is fantastic, with attention to detail, great recommendations, and very responsive. The neighborhood has a great selection of restaurants. The quality of the seafood is of the highest caliber. King Crab risotto special was mind blowing. The Toro tartar with caviar is a treat. Mushroom soup and spicy yellowtail are a great starter. Well done. Location - 10 Service - 10 Quality - 10 Ambiance - 10
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC so far! For the price, the ambiance and food of the restaurant was beyond my expectations! Great for a date night and also great place to bring friends and family visiting. Dishes ordered (& in order of preference) - Rolls (Rocketman - Crab sushi roll) Seared salmon on top was so soft, crab was flavorful, sauce was a good balance of sweet and salty. - Maryland Crab cake Ordinary looking dish but I would describe eating it as like having a crab explosion in your mouth. Also obvious crab bits throughout the crab cake. - Chocolate Molten Cake SO DELICIOUS. Strong chocolate aroma with chocolate sauce oozing out. Not too rich. Just perfect. - Alaskan Black Cod The flavor of the cod itself with the sake glaze is really good. The broth that it comes with was a bit bland for me. Personally, I prefer the cod from Nobu. - Tuna Tartare Beautifully presented dish. Delicious but nothing too special in the taste compared to Tuna Tartare from other Japanese restaurants.
Another NYC Experience: Oceans Restaurant on Park Ave celebrates The Japanese Hokkaido Scallop Festival: fresh imported Scallops - succulent & sweet. Executive Chef Andy Kitko greets our roundtable of 6 local businessmen to share his illustrious story. He tells us his kitchen is the soul of the restaurant & his culinary team are inspired to create elevated -yet approachable- dishes that highlight locally & globally sourced seafood paired with seasonal produce. We begin with large scallop shells showcasing raw scallops, avocado & an amazing sauce. Yum! Entree is whole grilled branzinos presented tableside with tasty fingerling potatoes and the best mashed potatoes I have ever tasted!! Dessert: plates of warm doughnut holes ala sweet dipping sauces. GM Stefanie & VP Ops David Schneider introduce themselves. They lead an awesome team - AND our “energy bunny” waitress, Judy was PERFECT! Great evening!! Awesome Team! We will return soon. Bonnie Manter from Manhattan
Upscale restaurant that really paid attention to details (bathrooms, interior decorations, service). The seafood was great quality as well. We ordered the seafood tower and when we first got it the tower was missing the king crab and the server brought it to us later. Overall the restaurant seems more scaled towards an older age group.
The highlight of the meal was the black miso cod. We loved the bread and butter/olive oil combination. Shrimp scampi was delicious and we dipped the bread in the sauce. The 16 minute wait for the chocolate lava cake was 100% worth it and the service and ambience was impeccable. As an added bonus the bathroom was very high tech. 10/10
Had dinner at **Oceans in NYC** and wow — the **black risotto was out of this world**! The place is huge but so tastefully decorated, it instantly gives elegant vibes. Even the bathrooms are super clean and modern (always a good sign!). Service was spot on, just what you’d expect in a top NY spot. Definitely going back soon to try more — their seafood selection is inviting.
Cannot say enough about Cory's service and the excellent food at Oceans. To begin with, our party of 8 was upgraded to a beautiful private dining room. When they discovered we were celebrating a wedding, their already wonderful service kicked into an even higher gear. Easily one of the best dining experiences I have ever had.
I recently dined at Oceans and was thoroughly impressed by the quality and taste of their dishes. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the fresh grilled fish, which was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection, making it easily the best menu item. The restaurant itself offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, with attentive staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations. The variety of seafood available ensures there's something for everyone, but if you visit, I highly recommend trying the grilled fish—you won't be disappointed.Overall, Oceans is a must-visit for any seafood lover. I'll definitely be returning to enjoy more of their delectable offerings.
5 star across the board. Food•Service•Ambiance were just wonderful. I loved the seats at the table, they felt comfortable which made our dining experience very welcoming, i loved the space between tables which was nice that you did not have to hear others conversations. The acoustics were great so we could talk in normal voice which lent to a great dining experience.
We tried oceans for restaurant week. Had an amazing experience. The service & food was on point & their restaurant week menu made it so easy to pick our selections. We ordered sushi, ceviche, pasta & salmon dishes along with coconuts rice pudding for dessert. The seafood was fresh & tasted delicious. Highly recommend!
❤️Overview: My friend and I went here last night and it was delicious! Great food, service and atmosphere. I would definitely come back and bring friends and coworkers here! ❤️What was ordered: - Half dozen oysters - Shrimp cocktail - Black cod - Warm donuts - Bottle of white wine ❤️Stand outside: - The horse radish crème fresh sauce that came with the oysters was addicting. My friend and I were eating it straight it was so good. - The black cod was delicious and most and perfectly cooked - The wine we ordered was amazing. It was smooth and so easy to drink ❤️Would I go back/recommend: ✅ YES!
Thank you for a beautiful date night. I’ll be dreaming about this pasta till I can have it again! It was absolutely phenomenal and so incredibly fresh. Staff was attentive from start to finish, making sure our waters were always refreshed and bringing us warm towels between our entrees. Yudiana was our server and she was so sweet! Starting our meal off with the tsunami was delicious and the follow up beef tataki was just as good (though the freshness of the tsunami was just amazing and I would recommend that to anyone). The pasta was the star of the show and the seafood that accompanied it elevated the entire dish even further. Probably the best pasta I’ve had in a long while. Wine pairing was perfect! Dessert completed our meal and we both leaned more towards the cheesecake, perfectly tart and not overly sweet (didn’t leave my teeth aching). We found the donuts to be a bit much, but they were kind enough to remove that from our tab when they noticed we hadn’t touched them much. Will absolutely be back again for another dinner soon! I’m still thinking about that pasta!
Oceans is an absolute gem — stylish, elevated, and a total seafood lover’s dream. The whole experience felt polished yet warm, with beautifully plated dishes and a lively atmosphere. Highlights included the whole snapper crudo, which was incredibly fresh and artfully presented, and the miso-marinated black cod — rich, delicate, and full of flavor. Everything felt thoughtful, from the plating to the service. Great cocktails, an impressive wine list, and a chic Park Avenue setting seal the deal. Perfect for a night out with friends or a special dinner. We’ll definitely be back!
This is one of the few restaurants I’d enthusiastically recommend to friends as a conversation starter. The ambiance is captivating, the food is exceptional, and the service is truly impeccable. The standout dish for me was the Nova Scotia Halibut—light, refreshing, and perfectly prepared. I also sampled my friend’s Alaskan Black Cod, which was phenomenal. It’s an excellent alternative to Nobu’s famous miso-marinated version. And of course, dessert didn’t disappoint. The molten chocolate cake was exquisite, especially when paired with the vibrant raspberry sorbet. Next time I’m in NYC, I’m definitely dropping by again.
Food here is cooked absolutely right! State of the art. From starters to main course all is superb! Price is perfect. Great combination for a perfect night out. Lobster is tasty and well prepared. Alaskan Cod is amazing. For business or date. Look forward to being back!
We came on a Friday night without a reso, the nice front staff was awesome and got us a table at the lounge area. They did specify we needed to order food at the lounge table as we mentioned we were there for just drinks. We ordered a few things from the menu, the food was amazing and fresh! The crab cakes are delicious as well as the roll we had. I loved the place and loved the seafood display they had on the back, pretty cool!!
A perfect quiet, intimate dinner experience that is officially part of our annual Christmas time tradition for a night in NYC. We chose this place for its quality of food, service and level of noise based on reviews. Oceans exceeded every expectation. The servers were fantastic. The food was up to standard. The noise level was completely low and perfect to have a conversation even at full capacity at one point for a weeknight meaning the acoustics of the main room truly absorb the murmur of voices. That is extremely rare to find in NYC so highly recommend if this is important to you or have sensory sensitivities. Try booking before 6pm if you want a more empty dining room and potentially better seating option for a rounded booth as they were so comfortable! The in house made focaccia bread was outstanding, the Spanish octopus was perfect and the plating/portion choices presentation wise were so carefully thought out. If you like bourbon, try the Rothman as this cocktail in particular was truly one the most unique finds I have come across in a while. A true gem of the city. Don't miss it.
Some of the best food I’ve had in the city that wasn’t Michelin starred. From the moment we walked in, they way they greeted us and made small talk on the way to our table was lovely and unique. The wine was top notch, music was great and perfect volume. We did end up ordering way too much food, but it was all so delicious. Definitely recommend the Rocketman roll, the octopus was very clean and fresh, every bite felt like the first one. The dry aged bone-in NY strip was phenomenal. I did wish we were told it came with greens so we didn’t have to order an extra side dish. The mashed Yukon potatos were perfectly balanced. The blueberry cheesecake was so light and fluffy, oat crust is key! Could do with a less potent lemon curd, but overall amazing.
Amazing dinner! Every dish was excellent: Dozen oysters, house salad, dragon roll, lobster roll, wonderful bread/butter/olive oil, Lobster macaroni and cheese, molten chocolate cake with vanilla(!!) and pistachio ice cream Lovely wait staff, relaxed, easy, friendly. The interior space is beautiful, restrooms huge, private. Beautiful experience please try it out……
We decided to dine here tonight for my husband's birthday and we sure did make the right decision! The ambiance, service, food, and drinks were beyond exceptional! I got the salmon dish and it was the best dish I have eaten in my life! The food was so fresh! We even got the oysters and sushi and they were super fresh! We will definitely come back here again! Our waitress was Sofie and she was super nice and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable!
Just wow , Everything about this place was amazing. From the moment I was greeted at the door by the hostess who was very polite and professional. Martin was our bartender while we waited for our table and the drinks he made were top tier. Our server Carlos was very educated and knowledgeable in his craft as a server in this amazing establishment. His recommendations for apps and entree were perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a 10/10 experience.
Simply fantastic. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. The specials, Dover sole, and cocktails were amazing, as well as the service and hospitality. A must try for anyone who loves fresh seafood.
Regret not ordering the seafood platter. But overall a great experience on Nye pre fix menu. The omakase small fish and cod is so good. Crab cakes is also good. Mushroom soup is delish and flavorful. Great customer service and our waiter’s personality made our dinner tasted ever better. Definitely will return for the seafood platter
One of the Best Seafood Spots in NYC! From the moment we walked in, the hostess set the stage for an amazing dinner experience—so professional and pleasant. The service was top-notch, with an incredibly attentive staff. A special shout-out to the gentleman from Bangladesh, who made sure everything was perfect throughout the evening. I dined with a friend, and we started with oysters—fresh from the ocean (pun totally intended!) and absolutely delicious. For my main course, I had the Pandora fish as a substitute for red snapper, and it was outstanding, beautifully presented. My friend chose the black cod, another excellent choice with incredible flavor and freshness. The restaurant has the vibe of a high-end spot, reminiscent of its Michelin star in 2022. I’ll happily recommend Oceans to friends and family visiting from out of town as a fantastic option for something special beyond the usual holiday dinner. Can’t wait to go back—this is a must-visit!
A restaurant with high ceilings and nice decor. The service was impeccable and friendly from the moment we arrived. Brian, our server, was extremely pleasant and helpful in explaining the menu and in accommodating our dietary requirements. We couldn't have asked for better service. He recommended the squid ink risotto with king crab meat and white truffles as one of our main courses and the dish was delicious. The mushroom soup was tasty with a rich and intense flavour. The crab cake starter was delicious with chunks of fresh crab meat and minimal binders. The Hokkaido scallops were fresh and cooked just right (crispy crust and tender inside). The Molten cake dessert was super yummy.
I had an amazing dining experience at Ocean Restaurant in NYC! The seafood was incredibly fresh and delicious. I tried the sea bream and sushi, both of which were beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The King Crab with Shrimp Scampi was a standout dish—fresh, perfectly cooked, and absolutely satisfying. On top of the fantastic food, the staff were kind and provided excellent, attentive service.
Crazy nice. Service from Brian, the waiter, was perfect. Food was good tasting and presented well. Tuna tartare and the Halibut were standouts. Even more of a standout is the wine list. I was surprised to see a Margaux from Burgundy as well as a Chablis from Burgundy (which I had and it was superb). I was celebrating a special occasion by myself and they couldn't have been happier for me. One other thing of note: there's an array of fish on ice, different types from different parts of the world - pick yours out and they will either sashimi it or cook it. Who ever heard of that? Spectacular. I never usually post photos, but I'm making an exception here. I will absolutely go back.
Came here for restaurant week, was focused on seafood. Justin was so warm and welcoming. Every time passing by and making sure we were enjoying the food 🩵Ambiance: Classy, elegant, chic and sleek. 🍣Food: The foccacia bread was a great way to find out the rest of the food would be amazing. The olive oil was high quality. The Alaskan salmon and rigatoni neri. ⭐️Service: From the hostess to server and manager. Everyone was kind, attentive and made the dining experience wonderful. Highly recommend for a family outing, friends or a date. 10/10 🥁Bonus: The bathrooms downstairs are worth the trip. Beautiful wine corridor on the way, the real towels to wash the hands were a luxurious treat.
FANTASTIC!! I came here with my fiancée, and we had a great experience! We came here to celebrate her birthday, and now we have a new go-to spot. The attentiveness by the wait staff was great and the ambience inside was amazing. Tables were spaced out which was also nice (some restaurants sit the tables super close, which I hate). The only thing was the restaurant was loud inside which made it hard to talk. But the booth-style tables were nice because you can sit next to who you are with. Octopus and Shrimp scampi appetizers were phenomenal! The shrimp scampi was insanely good with the sauce and totally worth the high price. We got extra focaccia bread to dip in the sauce. Lobster roll and salmon were also perfect. The dishes were made perfect and everything went phenomenally well together. For example, the mix of butter and olive oil was unique and tasted amazing (something you don’t really think of). The slices of onion on top of the octopus added a really nice addition to the dish, something that other restaurants/chefs wouldn’t think about adding. Salmon was cooked perfect in a delicious sauce. Overall, a must go
Oceans is my favorite seafood restaurant in New York City. The food is always fresh, expertly prepared, and flavorful but what truly sets it apart is the warm, professional service. The staff is consistently kind and accommodating, making every visit feel special. I also love the atmosphere; the interior design is elegant and modern, yet still feels comfortable and inviting.
Weekend night out with hubby and excellent food & services. The two tiered seafood gave us a good portion to try many items in the menu as starters and saved room to order main courses to share and desserts too. Highly recommend for date nights and their extensive selection of wines added great value.
Great restaurant week menu. Delicious. Courteous. Sumptuous. The filet mignon was so soft that it melted in the mouth. The ceviche was light yet bursting with flavors. The cod and salmon were perfectly cooked but they had very similar sweetness. A bit too sweet. The rice pudding refreshing but was too watery. The cheesecake was super airy. Love it! Will definitely come back especially for entertaining.
We went there for the NYE special menu. For over $250 per person, it was an expensive but satisfying experience. All the dishes were delicious. I especially enjoyed the crab cake - it was genuinely full of crab and very well seasoned. The signature whole black sea bass was amazing. It was only lightly seasoned with salt, pepper and olive oil, preserving the natural flavor of the incredibly fresh fish. The dessert was a pleasant surprise. The 3 mini pieces were exquisite and not overly sweet. The waiter started handing out NYE goodies at the end of the meal and everyone was pleased. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Located in the middle of the busy Flatiron and Union square neighborhoods of Manhattan, Oceans is a prominent gem with great food and an even better vibe. Service can be a little clunky (multiple servers and sometimes more food than you ordered) but it's a small price to pay for the experience. The lobster rolls and the rocketman roll are my 'go to" dishes but trust me, the lobster Mac and Cheese and salmon will also leave you satisfied. Skip the dessert and just enjoy the amazing focaccia at the beginning of the meal (you'll thank me).
Very nice restaurant in New York - clean and spacious (by NY standard). Reasonable prices. I wish they wouldn't try and serve sushi - everything else was very good in comparison. Loved the bread, cooked fish, dessert, and even the dry aged steak was very good for a seafood restaurant. The dessert and check took a long time post entree.
I really wanted to love this place - think it’s very good and would come back but nothing mind blowing. Started with crab cakes, torched yellowtail and their house focaccia. Crab cakes were very good- with very little filler. Yellowtail was fine, sliced a bit thing and not torched enough. Dragon roll was fine- similar to what you’d get at an average sushi roll place. Little gem Caesar was definitely a wonder. Dressed not too heavily with parm and a sizeable portion- finally ! Got the whole fish sashimi- prepared with olive oil and sea salt. Forget the name of the fish - some Portuguese fish, as they rest were too large for only 2 people. Fish was fresh enough, but again, nothing mind blowing. Would come back since it’s hard to find a place that has this offering.
Really nice ambiance with great fresh seafood. Excellent service except the embarrassing experience not to being able to pay by card due to their system errors (trying to put responsibilities on the customer for 30+min and then figuring out all customers have the same issue). Only watch when ordering for one and not getting it for two
I want to give this place 5 out of 5 stars but the hostess weren’t very welcoming. I made a reservation and upon arrival I was told there were 5 reservations waiting to be seated prior to mine and if I wanted immediate service, I would need to sit at the lounge near the bar. I also saw the hostess arguing with another party for sitting at a four top when it was only two of them. I get that there are rules and such but hospitable communication is key when ppl are patronizing the business. Other than that I was very pleased with the food. The crab cake was soooo delicious. Omg. I wanted to cry when I bit into it. The Alaskan cod was great too however the broth it was in, I could have done without it. Least favorite of the dish. It also had too many textures with the quinoa, peas, and sliced carrots. I still ate all of it. The bread was amazing and then I had the carrot cake for dessert. I demolished all of my food and then they provided complimentary gummies. The atmosphere is busy with the typical New York energy; fast talkers, upscale dressed ppl and enjoyable music to narrate the ambience. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was so good!
My friends and I had a nice dinner. The place is elegant and service was attentive. We start off with The Seafood Tower which I wasn’t too impressed, but the shrimp cocktail was really good. The Charred Spanish Octopus was tasty and I loved the Alaskan Black Cod, it was cooked perfectly and delicious.
Came here for the first time during restaurant week with a friend. Absolutely lovely time and their cocktail drinks are amazing. I loved the Sakura especially. Octopus off the restaurant week menu was great. We did also additionally order a seafood tower off the normal menu, and thought it was well presented yet taste was only okay freshness, especially the oysters.
A grand restaurant, literally a big open space with large bar, sushi counter, fresh fish displayed and open kitchen. Very efficient service with large number of staff members. Food: not consistent, we had an amazing risotto with sea urchin and prawns, but sushi rolls were just ok/ normal. A restaurant for people watching and celebrating special occasions.
Excellent ambience - pleasant buzz that isn’t too loud and the music is soft. Superb food - every dish was perfect! Service was below par, and for a restaurant of this caliber, frankly quite poor. Water wasn’t topped up, server was not in sight when we needed her and so on. I did state this to the floor manager (who was very nice and as such the only one of the wait staff who was attentive). Not sure if this was just our server so have still rated 4 stars.
A good restaurant with a few standouts food-wise in a nice setting. BUT be careful leaving the place, those steps are a little tricky with or without cocktails. Typical NYC restaurant: NOT GREAT but good. EXCEPT- THE SUSHI ROLLS were EXCELLENT. Spicy Tuna and ROCKETMAN were A+. In addition, there are a few dishes that were outstanding. My family had oyster rights in the Chesapeake Bay and I understand the business and what to look for in a good oyster. Here last night THE OYSTERS were succulent and tasty. They were spot on. Another dish that the chef knocked out of the park was the WAGYU steak. Moreover, the bar sent out two solid cocktails. In the other hand, The big no no of the evening was the CAESAR salad. They would have been better off serving bottled dressing. This salad was tasteless and I did not eat it. They kindly took it off the menu. But the major disappointment for me was THE DOVER SOLE- DO NOT ORDER. THEY would have been better off serving a lemon butter sauce. Their sauce was a sauce. It was there, you could see it all over the plate but it added nothing to the sole. It was not a perfect marriage. I specifically came here because of the sole. Sadly, now don’t cringe when I say this. It was soulless. I have a rule about eating out and I eat out a lot. I hate returning anything but since the waiter realized that I was not going to finish the salad and neither was my guess he said he would take it off the bill. Now, after that do you really think I would send back the sole. No way plus it’s expensive. A restaurant doesn’t have much invested in a salad but they would with the sole . The finale those hot or not hot donuts they serve with sauces did not end the evening with a highlight. Even the flavor of the sauces were limp. Those donuts remind me of our cook as a child. She would roll up left over dough into balls and deep fry them and she placed in a paper bag with cinnamon and sugar and tossed them around. Actually in an emergency for a quick breakfast before crabbing she took canned biscuits and did the same thing. Hers had a little more zip than those served at OCEANS. Sadly it was the service that I could not figure out…… I still am puzzled why they served the wine that was ordered for dinner was brought out, placed on the table almost at the time we received our drinks. There was no tasting, it was just placed on the table. The service lacked coordination and consistency. Maybe Tuesday night is not their A game but for roughly 400 dollars for two we deserve the A GAME. In conclusion, I would stick to the sushi!
In a city where you truly cannot walk in anywhere without a wait or a reservation (made months in advance!), Oceans is a breath of fresh air and a godsend. My husband and I frequently stop in for dinner at the bar and never have to wait for more than ~10m to be seated. It’s our go-to when we haven’t made plans but want to have a fun dinner out together. The service is amazing (at least at the bar) and food is always very good. Reasonably priced. You should stop by (just don’t steal my bar spot!).
The food is absolutely delicious. Their filet mignon is one of the best in NYC, and this was my third visit because of it. Their seafood is incredibly fresh, and the black cod is just so good. But the service… I was expecting much better for a restaurant of this quality. It’s almost sad that they seem to have plenty of staff, yet it still feels understaffed. It’s hard to get ahold of a server for anything except when placing the initial order and when paying the bill. I noticed other tables having the same issue, trying to flag down any server who walked by to clear plates or order something extra. Once the food arrives, the servers seem to pay far less attention to the tables. We found ourselves trying to catch our server’s eye just to ask for something, and eventually we gave up on ordering more. I revisited solely because of the food which was worth it. After three tries, I think that’s enough. I don’t think I’ll be back.
Had the best sashimi I’ve ever had in my life! Aesthetically and taste wise it was perfect. I dipped it in the sauce the shrimp came with and it was amazing wow. What I didn’t like about my experience was the fact that they brought out our entrees while my friend and I were in the restroom. They should’ve waited. By the time we came back my food was cold and I told the server about it. He took it back to get it heated up but that made it a little dry. Going towards the bathroom there’s this cute sit down area where you can take photos.
Food was incredible waiter very attentive however for almost $500, my girlfriend and I could certainly have done without the debilitating food poisoning that lasted the entire next day.
Lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was tasty, but as it was New Year’s Eve and very busy, the service wasn’t the best. It would have been nice to feel more encouraged to stay and enjoy the countdown.
I was really looking forward to this restaurant especially with the amount of the high praise in the reviews. However, I was sadly let down. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and this place is NOT romantic. It was dark and moody in appearance, but extremely loud. Also they don’t enforce a dress code, there were people in sweats which seemed odd for “fine dining”. The food was okay, not worth the price in my opinion. My husband enjoyed his steak but my sushi and oysters left me unhappy. The drinks were okay, but again not worth the price, very watered down. Lastly, our server was awful, I could hear her interactions with other tables and she was attentive and kind. When it came to us she was very rude and seemed to be rushing us, we were not offered dessert like the tables around us, not that we would’ve ordered any because the food was disappointing enough. Side note, DO NOT get the lobster Mac n cheese absolutely disgusting, the lobster tasted dirty and chewy and I prefer kraft Mac n cheese over the bland noodles and soup like cheese sauce we were given. Luckily, we were not charged for the Mac n cheese so that was a positive from this place.
