We always love eating here! Whether brunch or dinner, it's fantastic. The only note on the atmosphere is that if you have a middle table while the dining room is full, it can be loud enough that it's difficult to hear the person across from you at the table.
McKinney Doyle in Pawling A Dinner Well Taken Care Of After a long day at work, comfort does not always need to be elaborate. Sometimes, it comes simply in the form of a well-prepared meal. This small-town restaurant does not rely on flashy presentation, nor does it try too hard to impress. A cast-iron pot arrives with warm rice topped by a perfectly cooked egg—its white set, the yolk still gently flowing. With one touch, it spreads slowly, and time seems to ease its pace. The main course, served with a dark, well-reduced sauce, is restrained and reassuring in flavor. Alongside it, the mashed potatoes are smooth and comforting, the kind that tells you this kitchen has been doing things this way for a long time. There is no excess, only confidence and care. When the bread and butter are brought to the table, they feel less like an addition and more like a quiet gesture of hospitality. The bread is rustic, the butter unassuming, as if to say: there is no need to rush—we have prepared this for you. This is not a meal meant to impress. It is a meal that makes you feel taken care of.
By far my favorite place to eat. Food is top notch, the drinks are amazing and the staff are always friendly. Do not pass up the bakery after your meal and take some delicious treats to go!
We love this establishment. The bakery is a plus but it closes ahead of the restaurant. The specials can be expensive compared to items on the menu. Don’t hesitate to ask up front to know what your wallet can afford. The specials however, are delicious but not sure it’s entirely worth the additional cost for it. Reservations are expected if you want a table in dining room.
A Pawling, NY staple with a Hudson Valley small town feel. Great food, cocktails, and atmosphere in the downtown historic district. You can dine in or grab something from their grab and go bakery and coffee/smoothie bar.
I bought a mix of different cookies and pastries, they were very yummy. Great selection of single cookies and larger boston cream cookies to share. Enjoyed everything I purchased! I will definitely be back for more!! Service was ok, but the pastries and cookies is what made me stop!
We go here every week, and it’s always phenomenal! The food, drinks, and service are consistently top-notch. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the vibe is always perfect, definitely one of our favorite go-to spots for a great night out!
Atmosphere was an old pub with well worn booths, brick walls and tin ceiling. Greetings were all smiles and friendly. We were served bottled water and a fresh loaf of bread with butter. Calamari appetizer was literally the best I have ever had. Allagash White beer from Portland Maine served with frosted glasses. Pasta with shellfish was huge portion of linguini with lobster, shrimp, scallops and clams. Perfectly delicious. Famous fish and chips was a giant portion of beautifully done fried fish with two sauces, fries and cole slaw. Cappuccino served with chocolate chips , cinnamon and chocolate covered coffee beans. Perfection. Shared a giant slice of heavenly chocolate layer cake. Add to all of this service that could not be better. Best meal out we've had in years.
My first time here and oh boy it was a treat! The fish n chips were Devine! The homemade cocktail sauce and the remoulade ON POINT! The mocktail Moscow mule was a perfect pair w my food. Our waitress was very attentive but not overbearing. The other staff very helpful as well. I'd give them 10 stars if there was an option.
My most recent visit was wonderful, as it always is. Lovely & pleasant service, the decor is beautiful for the holiday season, and the food was superb. In particular the Maine Lobster Risotto entree was a standout - I’m still thinking about it! No matter the occasion you can’t go wrong with McKinney & Doyle
Love M&D. I was sad Luis’ Pancakes is no longer on the menu. But they more than made up for it with their service! Super friendly. They even separated food on 2 plates when some of us shared. Get the mocha! You’ll love it. We had a reservation and the table wasn’t ready. We were fine waiting because we were just happy to be at M&D. They repeatedly apologized and even gave us a complimentary appetizer for our patience. Thanks M&D. We will be back!!
What an amazing place. I've been here several times now for brunch and the food and atmosphere are incredible. The cocktails are fantastic too. I love the little quotes on the walls and the decor. They also have a bakery/Cafe on site that offers delicious desserts and coffee creations. If you are looking for great food, drinks or desserts McKinney & Doyle is the place to go. This place has got the most fantastic brunch. Little pricey, as well it should be, because it is worth it! Holiday in Barcelona is a perfect brunch drink (fizzy delicious - not to sweet), as is their Beekeeper's Bitter Truth. Pictured is their crab cake brunch special & their lobster hash. Both incredible! 10/10. The staff was exceptional. And I greatly appreciate the classic Americana ambiance with its soft emerald seats, framed watercolors set against the restaurant's brick dining room. You may even fall in love just by walking in like I did. I haven't had the chance to return for dinner yet, but I will!
Their cocktails and basically anything on their menu is excellent. We had the Tuna and artichoke appetizers to start and the salmon and steak entrees for dinner. They put a lot of love in their dishes and everything was prepared to perfection. Their mini homemade bread loaf was addictive and I had to stop myself to save room for everything else. The service from everyone who came to our table was impeccable. We were having an anniversary dinner here and they made it really special. Highly recommend this place.
This review is about a bakery. The coffee and pastries are pretty delicious here, but there is just one table for two people, and you have to take to go
Good spot. Great vibes. Their chocolate croissant had a lot of chocolate, just as I like it. Just one star less because they can’t warm up the pastries.
My husband and I went here recently and split a burger a few weeks ago. We keep talking about how amazing the burger was. The burger was juicy and so yummy. The prices were a little expensive but we were okay paying it if the food was good and it didn't disappoint. We went to the small bakery that's attached and it wasn't as amazing as I expected. The prices were again so expensive. I got the small strawberry shortcake it was $10.50. I was disappointed with the lack of strawberries it was just white cake with frosting. I went there a separate time to give it a second try and again it didn't take my breath away as the burger did. This time I got the pumpkin cookie which was good. The peanut butter thumb print cookie which was a typical dry peanut butter cookie (3 of these since they are usually my favorite cookie) and a lemon blueberry cookie which was decent all $11.00.
Nice spot for brunch. All the meals are plated beautifully, I had the chicken and waffles and they were good but the meal lacked salt, my friends stated their meals lacked salt and flavoring as well. I was too stuffed to try the desserts but they looked amazing. Overall it was a fair experience at McKinney and Doyle .
I’m always hesitant to try new places on special occasions, but was pleasantly surprised with our visit here on Mother’s Day. Overall, we had a really good experience and delicious food & drinks. I checked the brunch menu ahead of time and was a little disappointed that the shredded short rib Benedict was not on offer that day, but they had plenty of other delicious options. I had the huevos campesinos, which was good but I wish they included a little more pork with the portion. My husband and son split the wagyu beef burger (it doesn’t appear they have a children’s menu, and there were limited options that my son would eat). I took a bite of the burger and thought it was very good as well, well seasoned and cooked properly. My husband was still hungry after sharing the burger, so he ordered the short rib grilled cheese. I took a bite, and it was incredibly flavorful and very rich. I love spicy drinks, so I had the “spiced mango” cocktail, which I found wonderfully spicy. The jalapeño flavor somewhat overwhelmed the other flavors of the drink, but it was still a very enjoyable cocktail. I was torn between the Zombie & the Sophie Spritz for my 2nd and chose the spritz. It was herbaceous and fragrant and slightly bitter on the finish. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first drink I had. My husband ordered the House of Togarashi, which was interestingly served in a tea cup. It contained liquor that I would not normally have considered for myself, but it was actually quite delicious, balanced, and a very nice combination. We were stuffed and decided to skip desserts since mostly cakes were on offer. I was so much disappointed that the bakery next-door didn’t have very many small pastry items since I was hoping to get my son a chocolate croissant they have for cakes, a few small pastries, and cookies when we went) but we took home a small chocolate loaf cake, which was very rich and chocolatey, and not overly sweet. Unfortunately there’s no option to order bakery items from the café. One slightly confusing thing was that a sign in the bakery advertised a vegan salted caramel latte and when I asked the employee on the bakery side what was in it, she told me it was coffee and I asked is there any dairy and she replied that she did not know. I was considering getting it but I’m lactose intolerant and I assume vegan meant it was made with nondairy milk but I didn’t pursue it. Overall, we had a really nice meal and a good time and service was attentive. It’s a bit far for us since we are on the opposite side of Dutchess County, but I would try them again.
I went here on a Saturday at 1 pm. They were serving from their brunch menu. Everyone I was with had a lunch item; I had their Basil Chicken Sandwich which I really didn't care for. It was certainly edible but nothing special at all. The service was fine although a bit too many people asked us if everything was ok - better than not being able to get ahold of anyone. On the plus side the main dining room where the bar is, is very nice and cozy. However the second room between the bar and the bakery wasn't anything special. That said, I think my expectations were set very high. I always heard this restaurant had incredible food that was well worth the price, but that was not my experience for lunch. Perhaps their dinner menu is a lot better.
