We enjoyed our time at The Compass. Loved the changing views of the city. The food was delicious and the servers were very attentive. My glass was never empty for long. Our order: French onion soup: 8/10 Chicken Confit: 10/10 Steak Frites: 10/10 Duck:10/10 Mushrooms: 10/10 Pommes Puree (mashed potatoes): 6/10 is my rating but he thought they were 10/10 🙄
If you're looking for a place to celebrate something meaningful, or just want a beautiful night out, The Compass is a fantastic choice. My boyfriend and I celebrated our 2-year anniversary here and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The rotating dining room gave us breathtaking panoramic views of downtown Phoenix and the surrounding mountains. The food was amazing and full of flavor. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, and they even surprised us with a special dessert to celebrate our anniversary. We’ll definitely be back!
My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Compass , and the entire experience was unforgettable. The atmosphere was intimate, elegant, and perfect for a special occasion, with an incredible view that made the night feel even more meaningful. The wine was excellent, the steak was the best steak I’ve ever had, and the ricotta appetizer is a must. Matt was an amazing server—attentive, friendly, and made our anniversary feel truly special. We will definitely be back.
Such an elegant and classy restaurant. My steak was so tender and the risotto was delicious. I will be back.
Had an amazing evening here celebrating our anniversary. The hostess greeted us with happy anniversary when she sat us. The food was incredible and the view was outstanding. We were treated to a special dessert for our anniversary as well. Be sure to add notes about why you’re dining, the special touches are so worth it.
Went here for our anniversary the entire experience of the valet walking through the beautiful hotel lobby going up the elevators to the top floor and being walked all the way around the panoramic view of the restaurant to our table that was lightly sprinkled with rose petals was so beautiful and amazing that epic fancy entrance really set the mood for a special evening exactly what I was looking for, a dining experience with my wife on our special day. Everybody wants to be wowed and I was wowed. The food was excellent definitely recommend this for any special occasion. Thank you compass great service and hospitality. Definitely coming back.
I treated my man here for our makeup Valentine's Day dinner, holy smokes am i glad i did!! So amazing, the food, the service and the views!! Our guy Matt was outstanding, so was his asst (i forgot her name). Food was absolutely amazing. Gnocchi, crispy brussels, oysters, steak, shrimp, creamed potatoes and the list goes on!! Absolutely top notch, must go!
Romantic atmosphere, great gourmet culinary cuisine, & great service.
Fantastic restaurant. I like to visit location-unique restaurants for my birthday. The Compass did not disappoint. The seafood was cooked to perfection. It was not rubbery or tough. The rose package was a nice touch (thanks, sis), and for romantic events, I watched staff spread roses on the table. If you've not been before, the waitstaff have their hometown on their name tags. I found it to be a nice touch, and it sparked conversation. Their seating can cater to many tastes. There are tables of various sizes and curved high tables along the edge for an even better view. I decided on the Yes Chef! The server will check for allergen and preferences, but the 👨🍳/👩🍳 makes for choices for you. If you're adventurous and it's your first time, that is what I suggest. The paradox of choice can't slow you down. Note: The sauce that comes with the muscles is amazing. Just ask for extra bread if you know you're ordering it.
An experience you definitely will remember. A 360 view of down town from the 24th floor and amazingly tasty dishes, some of the best service I have ever had, you'll for sure want to check this restaurant out if your in the area or want to impress that special someone.
Gerri was wonderful and so warm. We had a spectacular evening for our celebration! They even brought us dessert! Will def be back again!
The Compass is an excellent restaurant, offering delicious food and very kind service, and you will surely enjoy the view.
This restaurant is a classic destination with breathtaking views. I feel like this restaurant has been forgotten about by Phoenicians. We stopped here for some cocktails and a light dinner. The menu had a variety of meals to choose from. I had a glass of wine and a light salad. Could there have been more variety on the menu ? Absolutely but overall five star all the way. This restaurant truly remains a beloved staple in downtown Phoenix. If you are looking for a romantic dinner date, don’t miss out on this location. The view alone should be a selling point.
Perfect place to get a panoramic view of Phoenix. Classy, rotating restaurant (very slow for those of you who may have concerns on moving sensations while seated) and beautiful place to see the sunset while enjoying happy hour, appetizers or a fine meal. Great for business meetings while staying at the Hyatt or for an anniversary, date, or any special evening out. It’s never been super crowded when I’ve been a few times. Always able to get in right away. I’d suggest going for the sunset that way you can enjoy the stunning view of that and then the night time city lights as well. I haven’t had an entré here but the desserts are rich and the drinks are very good. Love coming here to bring out of town friends/family. The service is okay/good but doesn’t match the quality of the restaurant. But overall, does not impact my experience at this restaurant in a negative way. I’ll keep coming here for the views and desserts 🍮 🌇
This is a great place for a special occasion. The food itself is very good but not excellent for the price. You pay for the view and experience, but their food was better than expected given the reviews. We liked the filet, but it won't leave any memories. The scallop pasta was the best main dish we tried. Our desserts were both delicious.
Thank You for making my Anniversary celebration amazing and making my Wife feel special. The staff and Manager were absolutely fantastic. I went at 5:30 PM and this gave nice daylight for pictures including the 360 picturesque view of Phoenix with Valley background. Perfect time to eat and then watch the sunset for night pictures. All the food was prepared and presented well. You made our night.
It was AMAZING! My daughter's 18th birthday is going to be the most memorable! Our server, Monica, was attentive, polite and very professional. Every dish was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was so relaxing and comfortable. Our view was gorgeous! I recommend taking a date or having a special dinner with someone close, or even treating yourself to a table by the window all alone and enjoy everything this romantic restaurant has to offer. This is fine dining. Thank you for such a memorable experience.
Absolutely loved the view and the food. We did the YES CHEF option and it was perfect. The only thing I would say is that the service was mediocre. I would say you are here for the food and view so the service doesn’t matter too much. They offer 2 hour complimentary parking and then you just pay $5 per hour after that. You park at the chase tower parking lot right next to the hotel.
We had an incredible experience. I think the food fairly priced and portions are larger than most restaurants in the same category. The service was incredible and the views top notch. I am shocked this place doesn't have at least 4.5 stars (because you cannot make everyone happy). Dont wait- book your table today!
We had a wonderful time Nick our server and Daniela were just delightful! Beautiful views very nice decor! Calming and relaxing!
Best steak I've had in awhile and the cocktails are so so so good. Went for my anniversary and was treated with kindness and a free desert that was to die for. The view, of course, was spectacular. Staff was wonderful. Highly recommend
10/10 Great food, great service! Chef Chelsea and the kitchen staff did an amazing job tonight. My husband and I celebrated our 19 Year wedding anniversary and Chef Chelsea truly gave us a 5 star VIP service. Our service was amazing. I must say chef kiss to the kitchen especially the pastry Chef. Thank you for making tonight special!
What an incredible space you have all curated : from the glamorous hostess gliding us to our seats to the kind hearted and fun server, Monica. She genuinely cared for us as we rambled on about our wedding this year and choosing our wedding bands and to our surprise there was a beautiful white vase of fresh red roses. As a started we had the seasonal toast which was complimentary to the champagne we ordered. We shared everything and loved the Panzanella salad and its circular presentation. So smart. The risotto was wonderful and creamy. The winter salad with its beet chips was also special as they paired it with a light vinaigrette. The blueberry puff pastry as a desert is exquisite as no one really does blueberries in deserts right now and combining it with a chocolate soufflé and cold vanilla ice cream is a beautiful combination. This restaurant is from 1976 and was once a Playboy Club complete with conversation pits that were sadly covered up with new flooring. But the compass era of this space still very much rotates and being born in the 1970s I find this so very special. Thank you everyone, Comoass was one of my favorite restaurant experiences I’ve ever had and to celebrate our date night here and in the year we were married is an incredible memory for us. Thank you Monica : you are absolutely wonderful. We shall be back
Food was great. Atmosphere was fantastic- window seat rotation seeing the sun set on the city- really nice. Service should had been better but was still good-not 5 star but 4. We will repeat - very nice dining experience.
Excellent. Highly recommended. The duck is Devine, the Fish perfectly prepared and the desserts are beautiful balanced sweet and delightful.
enjoyed the most perfect birthday tonight with my partner! it was his first time dining here and i’m so glad all his expectations were met! our server Jerry was the sweetest EVER and made our experience lovely! the white sea bass was soooo flavorful and the passion cocktail was delicious! the negative reviews made me skeptical but i highly recommend experiencing this restaurant before placing judgment, i look forward to going back soon!!
Thank you so much for delicious dinner to beautiful Chef Chelsea. That was incredible evening,The food was delightful.Every single details start from the service by David it was warm welcomed and professionally done.Thank you for making me feel special that night by every server and hostess who checked on us quite often. My mother who’s visiting from Europe and our dear friend from New York City are impressed and can’t wait to come back again with me.We will celebrate another occasion definitely there very soon because we had excellent experience from food, service surrounded by beautiful view and sunset in Phoenix AZ.
Absolutely nice view on the top floors in Hyatt Hotel in Phoenix. We didn't reserve so we took a table randomly. A waitress came and said this table charge $50 extra. What?? We moved other side restaurant to get high chairs table. There were same view downtown Phoenix but different angles which we liked it. (Saved $50) We ordered compass house salad with chicken and wild mushrooms side. The salad was really fresh and crushed. We also had Macaron sand for dessert that was sweet and creamy. I like our server who kind and friendly but I forgot his name..
The view was incredible, we weren't sure if the building was turning or the floor (at first), but after an hour it was very obvious. The steak was good, but not memorable, especially given the price. We were hoping for a more creative and unique menu to complement such a spectacular venue.
We came here to enjoy the scenery and our Anniversary. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We enjoyed the scenery and the rotating floor takes 1 hour to take you back to where you were. The Service was out of this world, almost like we had 1 person to pour our drinks and another to serve us our meal. We had a "Happy Anniversary" card on our table which was great. Julian and Isabella were Outstanding their service!! We both had the NY Strip steak with veggies and potatoes. So delicious and the steak was juicy. The Manager and Host kept coming over to see how we were doing which was very thoughtful. The scenery was Awesome!!!! This is on top of the Hyatt Regency so we decided this will be an annual location for our Anniversary and then spend the night in the Hyatt Regency. We can't wait for next year now. Beautiful atmosphere! Thank you for making this evening great!
The restaurant is truly beautiful and we had a romantic dinner, with roses and champagne and a teddy bear waiting for me at the table. The food was delicious, we shared spaghetti and meatballs and the ceaser salad was divine. We had a deconstructed bread pudding which I will never stop thinking about. The server was lovely and the manager Kyle was so friendly, professional and accommodating.
I can't believe I've never been here before! What an awesome experience! Our server was fantastic and the food incredible. At the same time you're on a fun little adventure looking over all of Phoenix. Absolutely recommend trying this place out!
Awesome experience for Valentine's Day. Food was great, staff was awesome. Advise get reservations a couple to 3 weeks in advance. Saw alot of people with no reservations turned away.
My wife surprised me for my birthday with a dinner at The Compass room. I had not been to the famous "rotating" restaurant sine I was a kid. This remains one of the most unique dining experiences in Phoenix as you get a great revolving 360o view of Phoenix. Our server - Matt - was excellent. He knew the menu well and always seemed to appear right when we needed him. The drinks are mixed well and quite strong. Our orders of the NY steak and Duck were cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a great and unique experience with great food and great service, the Compass room should be on your short list.
The Compass is an iconic rotating restaurant atop the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Phoenix. The limited menu offers a lot of variety. All dishes are served a la carte. The sides are plentiful for two, as are the small plates. All of the plates are top notch. Service is extremely professional and unobtrusive, yet very efficient. Everything is slow paced to allow you to rotate a couple times while you enjoy your meal.
We celebrated our anniversary here. We came here years ago and have been here a few times. They remodeled the inside to a more modern, sleek style. We had a reservation and had to pay extra to guarantee a spot next to the window, which does not go towards your bill. You can also choose other add-ons like flowers or wine. I will say I put down that we were celebrating our anniversary, and our server didn't even know. They seemed slightly short staffed for a Saturday. The service was lacking in comparison to when we were here last. They used to offer corn bread or other complimentary bread, which they stopped doing. The experience was still nice but not as romantic as it used to be. The food and drinks were still amazing. I will say it was just as good as we remember. We got scallops and the sea bass, and the seasoning and preparation were very well done. The cocktails were also well made, so there are no complaints there just kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. The appetizer we started with was the octopus, and it also was cooked nicely with a good presentation. I think the food is the redeeming quality here in addition to the views. I will say the lighting distracts away from the view. Sometimes, the lighting will change to bright to a slight dim, but I think it should be a more warmer lighting that would allow for better views at night. I would recommend coming when the sun is going down to get the full experience. Just ask Google. We still would return for the food and views and would recommend it. It is on the pricier side and would highly suggest reservations.
We had a wonderful experience, our server Nick was attentive and informative. Our food was delicious, loved the mash potato. Nick recommended 300 days of summer to my wife and it was so good I ordered one for my self. Valet parking was only $10
They just re-opened after three months of being closed. The views are spectacular and the service is very friendly! The drinks menu is very elaborate and comprehensive. Food was great but portions were very small and they don't offer side orders. I think the menu could be greatly improved if they either included more side to the actual main dishes or added side options to the menu. I highly recommend this place for drinks or a light meal, the appetizers we ordered were incredible!
AMAZING VIEWS! Only thing was, where we sat, we weren’t able to see the sunset because it didn’t revolve around in time. I just walked over and took a few pics. We shared the chicken. The chicken portion was a good size, but the accompaniments were not. Four halves of small potatoes with no flavor; no seasoning and dry. Chicken was delicious; tender and the sauce was yummy. Just a few bites of a vegetable that really wasn’t edible. Would’ve been happy with a good-sized amount of edible vegetables. Drinks were good. Our waitress was good, but the young girls seating people were not personable and were uninterested. The only time I would return is to have a drink in the lounge.
The view is absolutely the reason we booked Compass in Phoenix, and I will say the experience of arriving at the restaurant and being seated was really nice. The atmosphere and scenery definitely set the tone. That said, there were a few things that fell short of what I typically expect from a four- or five-star dining experience. There was no complimentary champagne, wine, bread, or appetizer offered, which was a bit surprising. After being seated, the staff did come by with the drink menu fairly quickly, so that part was smooth. Unfortunately, the service took a turn once our food arrived. One of the waiters spilled sauce onto my friend Aurora’s shoe, and the stain did not come out. Initially, the waiter did not want to take accountability, despite the fact that she never touched the plate. When the manager came over, she implied that my friend may have spilled the sauce herself, which was frustrating. It wasn’t until she saw Aurora in the bathroom trying to remove the stain that she seemed to realize what had actually happened. We even noticed a trail of sauce from the plate, likely due to the lighting being a bit dim, which further supported what occurred. As for the food: my steak was absolutely amazing, and the drinks were good. The dessert, however, was a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, the view and main course were highlights, but the lack of small touches and the way the service issue was handled impacted the experience. I’m not sure I’d return, but it wasn’t terrible. I’d rate my overall experience a solid 3 out of 5.
Service was awesome and I loved the vibe especially coming when it’s sunset! It was lovely. The food was very mid for how much you spend. I’m assuming they’re charging mostly for the experience. Spent 2 anniversaries here about 10 years apart and I still didn’t really feel like the food has improved. Dessert is incredible though!
An interesting restaurant that lacks follow-through. While the idea of a rotating platform sounds great as a concept, having the sun on you for half your meal because they don't have sun shades is not so good. Combined with the smudges on each window, and scratches on just about every surface, any positives from the novelty of the situation were quickly lost. I decided to go with the "Yes Chef!" choice where the chef chooses the selection for dinner, hoping to see the best available and, while each dish was presented beautifully, was disappointed. The carpaccio was unseasoned and bland, relying on the cheese and oil to cover up the actual dish. The main course was the most bland steak I have ever eaten, along with asparagus and whole fingerling potatoes. While it was said to have demi-glace, when asking for more, I received a sauce that I'd say resembles a thin au jus. The dessert brownie had a burnt chocolate sauce that tainted anything it touched and was poured over everything without leaving me the choice. The one dish that I actually loved was the burrata, as every piece was flavorful and delicious. Maybe it was a bad night, but the quality I experienced was definitely not worth the price tag.
The view was fantastic! The service was ok, not what I would expect at this price point though. The food was not impressive at all, so I was disappointed in the meal which was appetizers and main courses for three adults. The fries were dry, the steak was underwhelming with no flavor, the lobster tail was tiny. The drinks sounded good, but had very little flavor at all as well. If you are interested in the view, maybe try for drinks, but the food leaves a lot to be desired and the menu has limited options.
they take super long to give us our food and if you wanna ever dine at this restaurant, just a fact to be waiting at least an hour or 30 minutes for your drink and we have to wait like almost 2 hours for food but the food was very good at least and the view And we also just had to evacuate for some reason in the middle went when we were just eating our food and we were enjoying our time. They told us to get up and evacuate because something was burning in the kitchen.
My husband took me here for a celebratory night. I really hate to do this but unfortunately the food was so bad I have to let others know. My steak was lukewarm, half of it was fat, fries were cold and my husband's ribeye was mostly fat and the "risotto" was straight up unseasoned plain rice. The atmosphere is amazing and the service was fine no complaints but it's unfortunately really bad food. I think Applebee's might have served a better steak.
We came to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, and the atmosphere was horrible!!!!! There was a table (next to us) with 4 women who were screaming and using bad language. We asked the waitress if she could speak to them to lower their voices since we were expecting a romantic and quiet evening and they keep screaming, it actually felt like a circus with 4 hyenas laughing and swearing at the top of their lungs. To make matters worse, at that table there was a woman who took off her shoes and put her feet on the chair—it was truly disgusting. The worst part is that the staff couldn’t do anything and our special night was ruined!!!! now when we remember our 5th anniversary I will always have a bitter memory. Ps: the woman on the pink flowered dress was saying (screaming loud) she is with a married man, if you know her and she knows your man BE CAREFUL!! Could be you lol. She’s asking her “boyfriend” to get divorce. That loud they were talking, swearing and laughing we all know her business now.
Food looks and taste good. My steak, creamed potato, and shrimp came out cold. When they took it back the recooked my steak, which took it from medium to well done. Great ambiance and views, but definitely not worth the prices they changing for this experience. The land and sea came with 3 shrimps. Manager Michelle was not very useful at all.
We were so disappointed. It’s been a while since we were there. This was for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, the service was terrible and so was the food. There’s no bread service available so while we were sitting for 15 minutes after being seated, without service, there was nothing you could eat. Or drink. They were out of carpaccio so we ordered calamari, which clearly came from the frozen section at Costco. Overcooked and had that pre-breaded frozen gooey texture under the overcooked exterior. Then the salads. A panzanella salad should be crispy chunks of shredded freshly fried bread croutons and tomatoes. I had exactly three croutons on mine and they were nowhere close to fresh. The red tomatoes on it were literally rotting and mushy. The yellow ones were fine. The salad was generally tasteless apart from the rotting tomato taste. My companion had the house salad. It had rotting lettuce leaves in it. Also tasteless. Then our main dishes were both pasta. Kid you not, we waited a half hour after our salads were taken away and still no food. Wait person had no answer on the delay. The restaurant was not crowded. Finally told them to forget it we were leaving. We went to Taco Boys instead for both better food and service. Btw Hyatt charges $20 for reservations in the first place.
The view is great - for the price of food the food lacked 100% and took forever to get food. Bone marrow toast with over cooked toast - not so tasty Medium new york steak was rare for $70 you think the cook could cook the meat right. You don't get any sides just the meat so this meal was a HUGE let down. Got a salad added chicken - chicken was dry and lack any flavors. The wild mushrooms were good, only thing that came out good. They sat two gals table next to us, super super loud, playing music and videos from phone loudly and servers did nothing. Left here very disappointed esp coming here for 1st time and out of state for anniversary and for other reasons. Will not recommend this place or ever come back.
My husband took me for my birthday $100 just for the table, the food was less than good. The soup had to be 2-3 days old it was descusting. They never even offered a pice of cake ( like every other fine dinning would do) total bill was $408 just for 2 good stakes that had to go back. I couldn't say anything when I was there, I didn't want to hurt my husband's feelings. He had done such a great job and that restaurant destroyed it. Im descusted and going to call the management. You get better food at McDonald's.
